Arrest made after child found with major injuries in Sacramento

A man was arrested after a 2-year-old was taken to the hospital with significant injuries, the Sacramento Police Department said Friday. It is unclear how the boy was injured.Officials said on Friday evening that after a detailed investigation, the boyfriend of the child’s mother had been taken into custody, accused of child abuse.Officers were dispatched to the hospital around 3 a.m. after the child was taken from La Almendra Way in south Sacramento’s Valley Hi / North Laguna neighborhood, the police department said. Investigators remained in the residential neighborhood for the vast majority of the day. Crime scene investigation vehicles were outside as officers could be seen going in and out of a home with cameras and evidence boxes.”I’ve been here for ten years in the neighborhood and just to hear anything like that, it’s suspicious,” said Birinda Gutierrez, who lives nearby. “This is a quiet neighborhood.” Sacramento Police confirmed there were other children at the home when officers arrived, but did not elaborate further.”It’s shocking to know something like that would happen to a child,” said Ajit Singh, who lives nearby. He and other neighbors told KCRA 3 they often see children playing outside on the street where police conducted their investigation. Officials said on Friday evening that after a detailed investigation, the boyfriend of the child’s mother had been taken into custody, accused of child abuse.

Officers were dispatched to the hospital around 3 a.m. after the child was taken from La Almendra Way in south Sacramento’s Valley Hi / North Laguna neighborhood, the police department said.

Investigators remained in the residential neighborhood for the vast majority of the day. Crime scene investigation vehicles were outside as officers could be seen going in and out of a home with cameras and evidence boxes.

“I’ve been here for ten years in the neighborhood and just to hear anything like that, it’s suspicious,” said Birinda Gutierrez, who lives nearby. “This is a quiet neighborhood.”

Sacramento Police confirmed there were other children at the home when officers arrived, but did not elaborate further.

“It’s shocking to know something like that would happen to a child,” said Ajit Singh, who lives nearby.

He and other neighbors told KCRA 3 they often see children playing outside on the street where police conducted their investigation.

Crime scene tape on La Almendra Way had come down by 4 p.m.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
