Amber Alert issued for missing 9-year-old NC girl whose father is wanted in death investigation, officials say

PEMBROKE, N.C. (WNCN) – Authorities are searching for a 9-year-old girl who disappeared with her father early Wednesday morning, police said.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued an Amber Alert for Mekiya Werrell Strickland at 3 a.m.

Officials describe Strickland as approximately 4-foot-10 tall and weighing 160 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

According to the alert, the child is with her father, identified as 50-year-old Claude Leslie Werrell, as he’s being sought for questioning in connection to a death investigation.

Werrell is described as 6-foot-5 and weighs 280 pounds, as well as has brown hair and brown eyes, N.C. officials said.

Both are believed to be driving in a blue 2011 Chevrolet Traverse with the North Carolina license tag number LBL1909.
