Allan government facing renewed pressure over the release of a report into the Melbourne CBD safe injecting room – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

The Victorian opposition has again demanded the Allan government release a report into the Melbourne CBD safe injecting room.
The government was handed the findings of former chief commissioner of police Ken Lay about six months ago but his report has remained hidden from the public.
Shadow mental health minister Emma Kealy this week said with parliament set to wrap up for the year, the government needed to “stop the stalling and secrecy”.
“Enough is enough. No more excuses, no more stone-walling and no more delays. The report must be released by the end of next week,” Ms Kealy said.
“The Allan Labor government can’t manage money, can’t manage projects and can’t be trusted to release Lay’s report by the end of next week.”
Earlier this month, Mental Health Minister Ingrid Stitt told reporters she needed to give the report “the proper consideration that it deserves”.
The report had initially fallen on the desk of Gabrielle Williams, before being handed to Ms Stitt following a cabinet reshuffle after Daniel Andrews’ resignation as premier.
Ms Stitt had been asked whether the portfolio changeover in early October had delayed the release of the report, and the government’s response.
“No, I wouldn’t say that. But what I would say is that as the incoming minister, I think it’s important I give it the proper consideration that it deserves,” she said.
