HOLDEN, Mass. (WWLP) – A Holden man has been injured after an acetylene explosion occurred in his vehicle Saturday morning.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, the Holden Fire and Police Departments were called to the area of 216 Brattle Street after a report of an incident involving a vehicle. When crews arrived, they saw a car that had sustained damage and a man who had to be pulled from beneath it by neighbors. The man was taken to a local hospital for serious injuries.

An acetylene explosion occurred in the man’s car, but the blast did not cause any significant damage. The origin of the explosion is being investigated by the Holden Fire Department, Holden Police, and State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Based on previous evidence, it was determined that the man had an acetylene tank in his trunk where it appears to have leaked. While the exact ignition source is unknown at this time, it is believed to be accidental.
