The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that A24 has successfully won the television rights to iHeartPodcasts and Novel’s weekly true-crime podcast called The Girlfriends. The series adaptation hails from The Dropout writer-director Michael Showalter.

“It tells the true story of a group of women who clubbed together to bring a murderer to justice and illuminates how women unite to protect each other when the system fails them,” reads the podcast’s official logline.

For those who aren’t familiar with the work of Showalter, his directing credits include Netflix’s Grace and Frankie, Max’s Search Party, and Apple TV+’s The Shrink Next Door. He is also best known for directing romantic comedy movies such as The Big Sick and The Lovebirds.
