“When you really want to learn something or become competent in an area, you immerse yourself in that and it becomes you.” Those were the words that guided West Coast University graduate Raquel N. (BSN ’20) during her journey to become a nurse. Fully immersing herself in her education, she volunteered, tutored, and acted as vice president of the Student Nurses Association.

Part of WCU’s mission is empowering its students to grow into the best nurses they can be through a combination of hands-on classroom activities, student leadership roles, and community involvement opportunities. For Raquel, this meant becoming a tutor through WCU’s Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) program, which provides no-cost assistance to students. She also became a mentor to help inspire the next generation of nursing professionals, leaving a legacy that has the potential to ripple through the Miami community.

“I have never heard of a school being that involved with the student,” she said after her graduation. “It’s family. It’s camaraderie. It’s unity.”

WCU is proud to provide a truly supportive learning experience designed to develop nurses with both the knowledge and the confidence to enter the field.

For graduate Taneshia B. (BSN ’22), this also meant providing the opportunity for her to explore her chosen career path. Inspired by her love of “Law and Order,” she wanted to combine her love for forensics and her passion for healthcare to become a forensic nurse.

“I love how forensics looks at the science behind different scenarios,” Taneshia said. “But nursing has also been a passion because you can help people feel better.”

Taneshia came to WCU after having completed an undergraduate degree in forensic chemistry and found a diverse community that includes career changers, first-generation college students, immigrants, and those seeking their way to make a difference. WCU became her home ,and she was able to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

The university focuses on a student-centric approach that provides an individualized experience from day one until graduation. You can choose between three program paces, including an Evening & Weekend pace for working adults. You’ll also have access to knowledgeable financial aid advisors, a thriving student community, institutional scholarships, a dedicated clinical team, and more!
