A Comeback Worthy of Philly – Philadelphia Sports Nation

This Philly Native Isn’t Just an All-American. He’s An NCAA Champion.
Philly loves a comeback. We live for every moment of a sudden-death, triple overtime, winner take all game. Bring it on.
Of course — we’ll take blowouts whenever we can get them. Winning 44–6 is always a good day, especially when you annihilate The Cowboys. And especially when it’s in Philly.
Last week — Shane Cohen — The University of Virginia Senior, Huntingdon Valley native, and pride of Lower Moreland High School had a comeback of his own. He didn’t just win the Mens 800 Meter at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships — he passed the entire field of runners with 120 meters left to claim the NCAA Title. The University of Virginia finished eighth as a team. Cohen’s time was a personal best at 1:44.97.
He was also a 2024 All-ACC and an All-ACC at the University of Virginia.
While a senior in high school in the Philadelphia suburbs, Cohen finished third in the PIAA 3A 400m Championships with a time of 49.64 and records in the 4×400 and open 400. He was a two-time district champion in cross country as well. When Cohen transferred from the University of Tampa last year, his collegiate running career could very well have been over.
What this young man will remember for the rest of his life is his amazing comeback run and a time of 1:44.97 at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The best, however is yet to come. Shane Cohen is pursing a Graduate Degree in Public Policy.
