One of the (many) great parts of my job is that I get to test a ton of awesome cookware. From coffee gear and chic food storage containers to pantry flavor bombs, high-quality meat subscription services, and chef-grade blenders, my kitchen has turned into a veritable playground for the adventurous home chef. However, while I love all of my shiny new toys, sometimes, the most basic tools are the ones best suited to tackle the task at hand. Case in point: This $43 10-Inch Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Fry Pan from AmazonCommercial. And, while a simple, stainless-steel fry pan might seem a little pedestrian for someone with access to top-of-the-line cookware and a slew of high-tech cooking gadgets, this unassuming kitchen workhorse is one of my most-used pieces of culinary equipment. In fact, I recommend snagging this durable, high-quality pan to anyone looking for a new everyday go-to piece of cookware that can handle everything from searing and sautéing to baking, braising, broiling, and more.

This stainless-steel pan features a tri-ply construction with a pure aluminum core that retains and evenly distributes heat. Its sturdy handle is secure, comfortable, heat-resistant, and — best of all — permanently secured with rivets, which means you’ll never have to worry about a wobbly handle or constantly tightening screws or bolts. It’s also suitable for all cooktops, including induction, and it’s oven-safe up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Plus, it’s dishwasher-safe, which makes cleanup a breeze. If you don’t like it, you can always send it back, because an AmazonCommercial one-year limited warranty covers it.

Personally, the versatility is the main reason that I love this pan so much — and why I reach for it more than most of my other stovetop cooking gear. Its wide, flat-bottomed shape works perfectly for frying and browning, and the low, rolled edges make sliding food from the pan to a plate a snap. It’s also affordable, which is great, because I don’t mind beating it up. Originally, I figured if I got a few good months out of the pan, that would be worth it, but it’s been over a year since I purchased this bad boy, and it cooks just as well as it did the first time I used it. (It even  survived being haphazardly tossed in the back of my Honda Element during my last move.) And, since it’s essentially just a solid piece of steel, it has plenty of uses that a more fragile pan might not. You can bring it camping, use it to flatten meat, use it as a bacon press, toss it on the grill, and even use it as weight for, say, brick chicken. Just remember to preheat your pan for a few minutes before you use it — cooking with hot stainless steel is a great way to build flavor from fond that sticks to the bottom of the pan.

And, with a nearly perfect average rating on Amazon from over 800 reviews, it’s clear I’m not the only one who digs this frying pan. “[It’s] heavy enough to do the job well and just the right size,” one reviewer writes. “In the time since I made the purchase, I’ve used this pan often. It cleans up easily and, unlike pans with a non-stick coating, I don’t have to worry about accidently scratching the cooking surface and ruining the pan. All in all, a very good pan for the price.”
