In this post I will be talking about what you can do to stay healthy, from eating right and exercising regularly to getting enough sleep and managing stress. There is also a fun quiz at the end!

7 Everyday habits to keep your body and mind healthy

1. Get Plenty of Sleep

Making sure you get the right amount of sleep is essential for both your physical and mental health. Adults should be aiming to get between 7-9 hours of sleep each night. If you’re not getting enough sleep this can lead to fatigue and mood changes, as well as a weakened immune system, increased risk for injuring yourself and a greater chance that you will develop unhealthy cravings.

Make sure that you’re getting enough restful sleep by sticking to a schedule – set aside the same time each night for going to bed and getting up in the morning.

2. Eat Healthy, Whole Foods

Eating nutritious foods gives your body and mind with the essential nutrients and minerals that help it to stay healthy and balanced. As well as this healthy eating helps to reduce cravings for unhealthy, high-calorie processed snacks, like crisps, and will really help you to manage your weight.

Make sure you eat a mixture of nutrient dense options such as fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, nuts, seeds and healthy fats to get the nourishment you need.

3. Exercise Regularly

One of the best ways to stay healthy and energized is to make regular exercise a part of your daily habit. You will find the more you do, the more you’ll want to do. Exercise helps reduce stress, maintain your energy levels and combat feelings of sadness or depression.

It also boosts your immune system and can help you sleep better. I am always ready for bed if I’ve been on a run that day. Try to aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate fitness activity every day such as walking, swimming, or low-intensity aerobic exercises like cycling or jogging. Make sure you include time to rest as well.

4. Take Time for Self-Care

Although not an obvious one, taking time for self-care should also be a part of your everyday routine. It is as important as the other habits. Practices such as meditation, journaling, and yoga can help to reduce stress levels, improve your focus and concentration, and even boost your energy levels throughout the day.

Make sure you take at least 15 minutes a day for yourself to do something that helps relax and refresh your body and mind.

5. Connect with Nature and Sunshine

This is one of my favourite ways to unwind and relax. For those of you that know me you’ll understand this as I spend every spare moment working in my garden. Spending time outdoors and in nature can do so much for both your mind and body.

Studies show that being surrounded by greenery can reduce stress hormone levels, which in turn helps to lower blood pressure, improve focus, and even boost your mood. Make sure to get some fresh air today and enjoy the sunshine.  Vitamin D from the sun has been linked to aiding with improved mental functioning.

6. Socialize with Friends or Relatives

Socializing with friends can have a positive impact on your overall health and wellbeing and is fun too! Spending time with your friends can help to reduce your stress levels and improve your mood, because socializing provides an opportunity for you to laugh, relax, and enjoy yourself.

Socializing can also help to build and maintain strong relationships, which are key to a healthy support system. This support system can provide you with comfort and encouragement during difficult times, as well as help you to feel more connected and fulfilled.

The sense of belonging that you will get from being surrounded by friends and family is so important and a necessary part of being human.

Additionally, socializing with friends will give you a chance to increase your physical activity and provide opportunities for you to take part in healthy behaviours, such as trying new activities or eating a balanced diet.

All of these factors combined can boost your mental and physical health, making socializing with friends a really important part of a healthy lifestyle.

7. Drink Plenty of Water

I know people go on about this one a lot but there is a reason for this. Drinking water is a crucial habit to have in order to maintain good health. Water makes up a significant portion of your body, and you need it for many bodily functions such as digestion, circulation, and temperature regulation.

Drinking enough water will help to prevent you from becoming dehydrated, which can lead to symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, and irritability. Additionally, drinking water can assist in weight loss by reducing hunger and increasing metabolism.

Water also helps to flush toxins out of your body, promoting healthy kidney function. Furthermore, drinking water can improve your skin health, because it helps to keep your skin hydrated and prevent dryness and wrinkles. Overall, drinking water is a simple and effective way to improve your health and wellbeing so make it part of your routine.
