Amtrak will offer roundtrips from Chicago to Miami, including stop in Cleveland

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Amtrak will soon offer round-trip routes from Chicago to Miami, making stops at several major eastern U.S. cities, including Cleveland.

The railroad company announced the new route, called the Floridan, on Monday, saying they’re combining the Capitol Limited and Silver Star routes for a limited time. Officials say the service will be offered daily.

Starting in Chicago, the Floridian will take a roughly 47-hour journey with notable stops in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa before arriving in Miami.

The inaugural trip is scheduled to depart on Nov. 10.

According to Amtrak, the trip from Cleveland to Miami would take about 40 hours and 15 minutes.

“The Floridian offers customers an exceptional and sustainable journey to great destinations between Chicago and Miami, providing the amenities and delicious food our guests enjoy when traveling with us,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Eliot Hamlisch in a press release.

The temporary route is in place amid Amtrak’s upcoming East River Tunnel Rehabilitation Project in New York, shutting down its tunnel tubes one at a time.

According to Fox News, after reaching out for comment, an Amtrak representative didn’t say when the temporary service would end.

The Floridian will offer coach class and first class private room options. According to Amtrak’s website, small dogs or cats are allowed if they meet these guidelines.

“Instead of driving a car, taking a plane or bus, the Floridian is bound to give you a memorable train ride,” Amtrak said on its website. “Spacious accommodations make your trip more enjoyable, with showers and thoughtful amenities, friendly service and delicious dining.”
