Sacramento County fire: More than 200 mobile homes left without power

(FOX40.COM) — A fire in Sacramento County on Thursday night left nearly 200 mobile homes without power, according to Metro Fire of Sacramento.

The agency said its crews are at Imperial Mobile Home Park, 5935 Auburn Boulevard, and working with the Sacramento Office of Emergency Services, SacRT, and the Citrus Heights Police Department to “provide resources and evacuate residents in the park.”

“This is still developing but the outage poses a significant health risk to the elderly and disabled residents due to the excessive heat,” the agency said on X.

Metro Fire said the power outages and evacuations were started by a tree fire that spread into the main electric transformer, and according to SMUD, there is no estimated time for power to be restored. The exact cause of the fire, however, is still unknown.

“Many folks here are elderly or disabled, and they are not going to have power or air conditioning,” Metro Fire Batallion Chief Parker Wilbourn said. “They may have medical equipment as well, and they may need care now.”

Wilbourn added that crews are going “door to door” to evacuate the area and get the residents to a cooling center, although they haven’t narrowed it down to a specific location.

“At this point, we’re still attempting to locate one, but it might be Citrus Heights City Hall,” Wilbourn said.

Around 10 p.m., officials said more than 24 people were being taken by private vehicle or SacRT bus to a cooling facility, but an exact location had still not been established.

“The challenge is we know power will not be restored before tomorrow’s heat and we expect the number of evacuees will swell greatly in the triple-digit heat tomorrow,” Metro Fire said.
