NEWTON, N.C. (WGHP) — Multiple students were treated after a Stokes County activity bus was involved in a crash on Wednesday, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Around 3:20 p.m., troopers responded to and investigated a crash in Catawba County on I-40 East near mile marker 129. 

Two passenger vehicles were going east and crashed. The crash caused one of the vehicles to lose control and sideswipe a Stokes County activity bus. 

There were 33 students on the bus at the time of the crash, and eight were treated for minor injuries at the scene. 

The drivers from the initial crash were taken by EMS to a hospital with minor injuries.  

During the on-scene investigation, the road was closed for about an hour.

Both drivers from the initial crash were charged with unsafe movement. 

No charges will be filed against the driver of the activity bus.
