At the beginning of the month I mentioned that I was going to try and incorporate ideas for a variety of working situations. Last week I blogged about self-care ideas for people who worked from home and this week I want to take a stab at providing options for those who travel often for work. I have no experience in this area so hopefully the ideas I provide is conducive to the typical travel worker. With the pandemic going on I’m not sure if there is much work travel going on or if the travelers have transitioned over to the virtual world. I’m sure there are still some travel workers out there so I feel comfortable dedicating my week to this.

Even if you’re going somewhere fun, traveling itself can be really stressful, so I can’t imagine what it’s like for those who have to travel frequently for their jobs. Depending on how long you’ve been doing it you might already have a routine that works really well for you. Whether or not this is the case, you have to make sure that you’re investing some time into self-care. I’m going to assume that if you travel a lot for work, you may not have a lot of time to spare especially if you a). have a quick turn around time, and b) spend most of your time on the road or on the airplane. Some of the ideas that I’m providing this week have been mentioned on my blog in the past but I think they will perfect for this specific work situation.

Opt For A Virtual Event Schedule a zoom date with a really good friend or family member. Make it a virtual coffee or tea date. This is a perfect opportunity for you to spend quality time with those you love while you’re traveling.

Read This is a simple yet very effective form of self-care for traveling. This is also an option if you’re driving because you can listen to a book on audible.

Traveling I’m referring to while you’re in the car or on an airplane. Although it may be a little uncomfortable taking a nap is the best option. I would also encourage putting on your head phones and listening to music or a book if possible, you can watch a movie or binge watch one of your favorite shows. If you’re driving you can stop as often as you’d like explore a little bit, this will come in handy if you’re taking a really long road trip. I would also say that in these situations you really have to dig deep and focus on the things you can control because you really can’t control these environments (especially when you’re on an airplane).

Projects  Some of us may be working on any variety of projects for work at the moment. The easiest and probably the most efficient is to take some time off from the project. Set it aside and clear your head (especially if you’re stuck and haven’t made any progress in a while). Order room service or head down to the hotel restaurant if possible.

Light Candles Sometimes it’s the small self-care gestures. This may not be everyone’s jam but I love having candles lit around the house, I use to have one burning in every room of my house and what I loved the most about that is, each room would have a different smell. Candles come in so many different fragrance and there are several fragrance options that cater to our well-being (lavender, aromatherapy, sage, etc). They are also incredibly inexpensive, stores like TJMaxx carry a plethora of options for a very reasonable price. Maybe you can carry a small one with you each time you travel to make your hotel space feel a little more like home.

Masterbation It’s a very personal act. People are probably more likely to talk about having sex and not masterbation. But this is an extremely safe and normal behavior and it is a form of self-care. Without getting too heavy in the details, I think masterbation relaxes you, relieves stress, and you can be as creative as you’d like to because no one is there to judge you.

Guilty Pleasures we all have them, and some of them should stay private because it might be too much information to share, or it may get you some strange looks and people might judge you. I will continue to say as long as you’re not harming yourself or anyone, indulge in your guilty pleasure and enjoy every minute of it.

Self-Care on the go are essentially bite size versions of my self-care challenges. It’s open to anyone but it’s specifically created for moms and other working women; who may not have time to participate in all (or any) of the challenges that I provide weekly because of their mommy duties or busy work schedule. You can access the infographic HERE. I’ve been posting them every Sunday since the beginning of the year and I really enjoy creating them. If you’re one of my readers who participate in, or enjoy these options because you find them convenient, leave a comment and let me know what you like about them or what you think I should change. Thanks for going on this self-care journey again with me this week.

By the way, if you’re interested, my Newsletter and Self-Care Accountability Worksheet is now available. The worksheet will act as a supplement to my daily self-care challenges. The purpose is to help you stay on track with your daily self-care routines. If you’re interested in receiving these items weekly, email me at [email protected].
