This was a brutally hot summer for many parts of the globe, including sections of the U.S. Several American cities set or tied records for the single hottest day since record-keeping began. Most of these scorching days occurred within a one-week period in the middle of July. Here is a roll call of U.S. cities that sweltered as the thermometer rose to the highest level ever recorded in those places.
