WASHINGTON — Police are investigating two triple shootings in D.C. Wednesday night that left five wounded and a sixth person dead. While the two shootings have not been connected, police say they are looking for a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee in both crimes.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the latest shooting happened near 7th and O Street NW around 9:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found two men had been shot. The victims were taken to an area hospital for help, where a third man also walked in with a gunshot wound. Two of the men are expected to survive but the third victim has since died. Originally police reported four victims but have since updated that number.
In a press conference Wednesday night, MPD Chief Pamela A. Smith said investigators are searching for what is believed to be a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee.
This is the latest in a string of shootings across the District Wednesday night. In just a matter of hours, police say seven people were shot including the two triple shootings.
Shortly before 9 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of 37th Place, Southeast for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two who had been shot. They were taken to an area hospital for help, where a third shooting victim walked into the hospital. While Smith said officers cannot connect the two triple shootings, she did say investigators are searching for a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee in both crimes.
Additionally, police say another shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m. in the 1800 block of Marion Barry Avenue in Southeast. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside a car. He was conscious and breathing when first responders took him to an area hospital.
