Firefighters were scrambling to get a four-alarm fire under control at a house in Kensington, Brooklyn, on Friday evening, the FDNY said.

The blaze broke out at a three-story building at 413 East 3rd St. around 5:45 p.m. and sent smoke throughout the area, according to the department. It was initially categorized as a three-alarm fire but was eventually upgraded to four alarms.

The FDNY said 168 fire and emergency medical personnel were still responding to the flames as of around 7:15 p.m.

City officials warned residents in the area to avoid the smoke and close their windows. They also said the emergency response could cause traffic in the area, with several street closures in effect.

No injuries were immediately reported and the cause of the fire remains unclear.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
