OPTION 1: How to get from Positano to Capri by Ferry

  • Travel Duration: about 30 minutes
  • Travel Fare: from £24

The most common (and main) way to reach Capri from Positano is by riding a ferry. Because Capri is an island, it is required to do a short trip across the Tyrrhenian Sea in order to reach your destination.

To get there, you have to catch a ferry from Positano, Port of Positano. Some of the major ferry operators which you will find there are NLG, Alicost and Positano Jet. All ferries arrive at the port of Capri, Marina Grande.

Here is a sample timetable of ferry trips for your reference:

Ferry from Positano to Capri

DEPARTURE ARRIVAL DURATION FARE
Earliest trip 9:15 am 9:45 am 30 minutes £25
Cheapest trip 2:00 pm 2:30 pm 30 minutes £24
Latest trip  5:00 pm 5:30 pm 30 minutes £24

Good thing about riding a ferry is that you can book your ticket in advance online. You can head over to Direct Ferries, check which timing best suits your personal travel itinerary, and book and pay in a flash.

The fares mentioned above are applicable if you are travelling as a passenger. If you plan to bring your vehicle with you to Capri, this service is not currently available from Positano. What you can do is to drive your car to Sorrento and take the ferry there. It is great to bring a vehicle on your journey to Capri if you intend to roam around the area with ease.

To drive from Positano to Sorrento, follow the Amalfi Drive (SS163). This is a scenic route, however the roads can be narrow and winding so try not to be so distracted with the beautiful coast!

From Sorrento, book a ticket specific to travelling with your vehicle. This can be prearranged via Direct Ferries. As an example, for a standard car to be transported with you from Sorrento, the ticket fare can go as high as £60.32.

There are many private boat providers in Positano which you can choose from. One of them is Capri Boat Experience

If you are coming from the airport or your hotel in Positano, they can arrange for a car transfer to the Port of Positano. Then, the boat ride to Capri will commence at your prescribed time. This service is bookable one-way or round-trip.
