CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News is part of the largest television company in the United States, Nexstar Media Group, which is celebrating its 28th anniversary this year. To celebrate, we are observing Nexstar’s Founder’s Day of Caring.

Founder’s Day celebrates the creation of Nexstar by Founder, Chairman, and CEO Perry Sook in June of 1996. Every year during the third week of June, employees in each of Nexstar’s 117 television markets work with nonprofit organizations in their local communities.

To serve our community here in western Massachusetts, we will be making sandwiches for those in need at Providence Ministries, Rachael’s Table, and the Springfield Rescue Mission. Employees donate their time, and the company pays for all the supplies, from the food to the coolers, hair nets, and gloves.

For Founder’s Day last year, we also made sandwiches in our Mass Appeal studio.

In years past, 22News has held shredding events at the Eastern States Exposition. We have also participated in clean-ups at the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield, Camp Shepard in Westfield, Robinson State Park in Agawam, and Chicopee State Park in Chicopee.

On Founder’s Day in 2017, 22News joined forces with Open Pantry Community Services at Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield, where we prepared dinner for nearly 200 people.

Last year, 5,700 Nexstar employees across the country volunteered more than 17,500 hours of services at 240 charitable organizations.

We hope that by doing these volunteer efforts, we can inspire everyone in the community to give back.
