GREENWOOD, Ind. — Two people from Chicago have died after a serious crash Sunday in Johnson County, Indiana, just south of Indianapolis.

According to the Indiana State Police, it was a single-vehicle crash that resulted in two fatalities on I-65 northbound at the 96-mile marker in Greenwood, six miles north of the Franklin Exit.

Upon arrival, officers found two unresponsive females, along with a conscious and alert person that was driving. The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The females victims have been identified as 52-year-old Cearmease J. Evans of Chicago and 17-year-old Chaise Franklin of Chicago by the Johnson County Coroner’s Office. The cause and manner of death was determined to be due to multiple traumatic injuries due to the impact of the crash.

Preliminary information revealed a gold 2011 Jeep ran off the road into the ditch to the right side of the road. The Jeep then impacted several trees on the passenger side of the vehicle. Evans was in the front passenger seat and Franklin was in the rear passenger seat.

Police are still trying to determine exactly what caused the Jeep to run off the road.

This is an ongoing investigation.
