PORT ORANGE, Fla. — An 11-year-old Port Orange girl was arrested after she texted 911 on Wednesday morning to falsely report that her friend was kidnapped by an armed man driving a white van on South I-95 in Oak Hill.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), multiple deputies along with Air One and Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach and Port Orange police responded to the call and searched for the suspect’s van, but were unsuccessful.

At 9:45 a.m., a dispatcher at the Sheriff’s Communications Center reported a suspicious incident made by text message. The girl said her 14-year-old friend had been abducted and that she was following in a blue Jeep.

The girl texted updates for the next hour and a half, describing the suspect who she claimed had a gun.

At around 10:23 a.m., deputies tracked the girl’s cell phone to a Port Orange home on Poppy Lane. The girl’s father was contacted and he said she was inside the home with family.

Ava Rose Langone, 11, told deputies she got the idea to prank 911 through a Youtube challenge and thought it “would be funny”, VCSO said.

Langone was charged with making a false police report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner and misuse of 911. She was taken to the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
