  • Letterboxd Is Launching Its Own Unique Take on a ‘Video Store’

    Letterboxd has long been the discursive mecca where film nerds go to share their online opinions about the movies they’ve watched. Now, however, the platform appears to be trying to transform itself into a place where said nerds can also watch movies, not just talk about them.

    On Wednesday, the company announced that it will soon be launching what it calls its “Video Store”—a “film rental platform inside Letterboxd.” As far as can be discerned, this new feature is going to allow users to rent (and watch) movies right out of the Letterboxd interface. The announcement says that it will be compatible with iOS, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, and AirPlay, and notes that other smart TV app integrations are “in the works.”

    Just like the video stores of old, this new online “store” will allow users to pick from a variety of “curated shelves,” which are designed to guide the user towards particular cinematic experiences rather than leaving them adrift in an endless sea of interchangeable content. Categories like “festival standouts,” “long-watchlisted titles,” “restorations and rediscoveries,” and “limited-time drops” will all be part of the mix.

    Some of the curation will be done via an algorithm based on user data. The company said in a press release: “We program these shelves using millions of watchlists, reviews and other secret sauce signals. It’s like walking into your local video store and seeing the ’employee picks’ shelf—and those employees are countless Letterboxd members across the globe.”

    The site additionally notes that the availability and cost of particular rentals will depend on the user’s location.

    Letterboxd’s new “Video Store” sounds a bit like the Criterion Channel, where users can pick from regularly updated film collections that are only available for a limited time (the announcement notes that some “shelves will be available for a limited time only”). If that’s the case, it’ll likely be a good model for the internet’s cinephiles, who may hanker for some direction when it comes to what to watch.

    While it all sounds very exciting, there’s still a lot about the “Video Store” that we don’t know. Gizmodo reached out to Letterboxd for more details about the upcoming feature, which is scheduled to go live early next month.

    It’s certainly a pleasant turn of events for the popular film site—and perhaps not what most users had been after its acquisition by Tiny, a large Canadian holding company, which purchased the site for $50 million in 2023.

    Usually, when a big company buys a scrappy little site, bad things happen. However, since Tiny took over at Letterboxd, the site has only continued to thrive and change in largely positive ways. A new rental integration seems like just the ticket to keep users coming back for more.

    King Harris is getting ready to welcome his first baby. He and the child’s mother, Nana, recently celebrated their pregnancy with a glamorous baby shower. King’s mother, Tiny Harris, shared an inside look at the celebration’s decor on Sunday (Oct. 6). Ironically, the public first learned about the pregnancy through T.I.

    An Inside Look At King Harris’ Baby Shower Celebration

    On Instagram Stories, Tiny shared several videos from the baby shower, including a close-up look at the stand-out decor. There was an area that seemed to be for the sweet treats. Tables were draped in navy blue and gold and decorated with gold dessert holders. There was a two-tier cake with a photo of Simba from ‘The Lion King’ on it.

    Moreover, there were matching balloons, a rack of baby onesies, and huge lit-up lights. Additionally, the space was filled with portraits from King and Nana’s maternity shoot.

    Also, a photo of King Harris and Nana shows his hand wrapped around her waist and sitting on her hip. It’s unclear if King and Nana are dating or strictly future co-parents. However, on Instagram Stories, Tiny shared her excitement for what’s next!

    “My baby [King] is having a baby! I’m too geeked about my grandson coming!! [Nona] u look so beautiful!! Congratulations, guys!”

     

    What Else Has King Been Up To?

    In August, the rapper announced on Hot 107.9 that King is having a son. The child will be his and Tiny’s third grandbaby.

    King also shared footage from the baby shower on his Instagram Stories. One video shows an outside area covered in round tables covered in blue and gold clothes. However, he has yet to speak openly about welcoming his first child.

    Nana also shared baby shower footage on her Instagram Stories. However, she did not share any details about her ties to King. Her Instagram page is also limited and has no content featuring Harris, but she does follow him and vice versa.

    Most recently, King and Boosie’s son got a lecture from their dads after allegedly using real guns as props in a music video shoot. Tiny later clarified that the moment was not recent and occurred while they were filming for a show.

    A sexual assault lawsuit against T.I. and his wife, Tiny Harris, has reportedly been dismissed.

    More Details On The Dismissed Sexual Assault Case Against T.I. & Tiny

    According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, the dismissal of the suit was filed on Thursday, August 8. It was allegedly approved by Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett at the United States District Court of California.

    “The court agreed with Tip and Tameka that Jane Doe doesn’t appear to have any viable claims. As Tip and Tameka stated three years ago, these allegations are some of the many false, salacious allegations thrown out into the media in a cheap attempt to extort money from them,” a representative for the couple reportedly told the outlet.

    The outlet adds that the suit was reportedly “dismissed without prejudice.” According to Shouse California Law Group, this means the case “is dismissed but can still be refiled at a later point.”

    Here’s What The Lawsuit Accused The Couple Of

    As The Shade Room previously reported, a Jane Doe plaintiff filed the suit against the couple. Doe accused the pair of sexually assaulting her “in or around 2005.”

    At the time of the alleged incident, Doe was reportedly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Furthermore, she alleged she met the couple at a nightclub one evening. Doe alleged she accepted a drink from Harris and later left the club with the couple and two unknown women.

    Later that evening, they allegedly arrived at a hotel where the two women were ordered to leave. There, she alleged she undressed with the couple, they showered together, and she was ordered to lay on a bed.

    Doe ultimately alleged that Tiny rubbed her naked body on her. Additionally, she alleged that T.I. penetrated her with his toe. Furthermore, she allegedly passed out and was awoken the next day to her vagina being in “serious pain,” itching and throbbing.

    More Details On T.I. & Tiny’s Request For The Lawsuit To Be Dismissed

    Furthermore, as The Shade Room previously reported, T.I. and Tiny reacted to the lawsuit via an exclusive statement shared with TMZ.

    “On the heels of positivity, negativity always rears its ugly head. This plaintiff has been threatening to file this lawsuit for THREE years. For THREE years, we have emphatically and categorically denied these allegations,” they stated. “For THREE years we have maintained our innocence and refused to pay these extortionate demands for things we didn’t do. For THREE years, we’ve maintained the same position while the claims in this story have changed time and time again. Our position is clear… We are innocent of these fake claims, we will not be shaken down, and we look forward to our day in court.”

    According to PEOPLE, T.I. and Tiny officially filed a motion to dismiss the case in July. The couple reportedly wanted the suit dismissed “in its entirety, with prejudice.” Additionally, the couple reportedly asserted that Doe “fail[ed] to allege facts” to prove her claims.

    T.I. has reportedly been released from police custody after being arrested in Atlanta.

    Here’s Why T.I. Was Reportedly Arrested In Atlanta

    According to TMZ, the rapper, whose government name is Clifford Harris, was reportedly arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta on the evening of Sunday, August 4. However, the outlet notes that the arrest appeared to have been made under circumstances of mistaken identity.

    TMZ reports that a warrant was issued for a man named Clifford Harris. However, authorities allegedly mixed up the suspect, who weighs 205, with the rapper, who weighs 165.

    The outlet adds that the man who authorities sought to arrest was wanted in connection to exhibiting violent behavior and stalking a woman.

    According to TMZ, T.I. was taken to Clayton County Jail. However, his attorney, Steve Sadow, reportedly spoke with authorities and cleared up the mistake within two hours of the rapper’s arrest.

    At the time, the rapper shared a special video montage dedicated to his wife.

    King Harris is speaking out following a viral livestream showing him in a heated discussion with his parents, Tiny Harris and rapper T.I.

    More Details Regarding The Heated Exchange

    On Sunday, November 26, the Atlanta Falcons met the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Massive crowds showed up for the event, which included rapper Ludacris paying tribute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop as Quavo honored the late Migos member, Takeoff, during halftime.

    But the moment that stole the game didn’t seem to take place on the field. At some point during the event, King Harris took to Instagram Live to show he was in attendance at the football game with his parents.

    In footage of the livestream obtained by @livebitez, Harris and T.I. seemed to have a discussion regarding his upbringing.

    “…To make him look better, he say s**t he know not true,” King Harris told the group surrounding him and his parents. “Silver spoon — I ain’t never ate with that… a day in my life.”

    At that point, Tiny Harris intervened to disagree with her son, explaining that he “did” grow up with “a silver spoon.” On the contrary, King disagreed and explained that he grew up primarily at his grandmother’s house.

    Tiny and T.I. rejected his statement by explaining that King allegedly “cried… every day” to go to his grandmother’s house.

    “I don’t want to be in these gates,” King Harris explained to his parents, seemingly referring to their gated mansion home. “I want to be in the neighborhood — that’s why I want to be over there.”

     

    King Harris’ Discussion With His Parents Seemed To Escalate

    As the discussion continued, Tiny grabbed the camera from her son. The mother of three then told live stream viewers the reason King wanted to be at his grandmother’s house was because “he could suck a pacifier over there until he was 12 years old.”

    King disagreed with his parents by alleging they weren’t telling the whole story, and instead were trying to “hide it.” As the footage continued, the discussion between the group appeared to escalate, with King yelling at his parents — most specifically, his father, T.I. — accusing them of lying.

    At some point, viewers can hear T.I. accusing King of “embarrassing” himself and their family as the view of the camera becomes obstructed. Ultimately, the audio captured seemed to catch King and his father in a physical exchange, with King heard saying, “Man, get off me.”

    King Harris Speaks Out Following The Alleged Altercation

    After the incident, King Harris took to his Instagram Story with a few words. In his posts, he explained that he stands “on business” and won’t let anyone play in his face or taunt him.

    Additionally, Harris seemed to accuse his father of “faking an image for the internet.”

    “If ima mistake say dat stop making the world think u fw me when u DONT… N***a be faking a image for da internet &. It AINT Me,” Harris wrote.

    Neither T.I. nor Tiny have publicly addressed the alleged altercation with their son. However, T.I. did finish the event strong by leading the Atlanta Falcons out of the tunnel while performing his hit single, “Bring Em Out.”

    King Harris has since shown love to his grandmother, Dianne Cottle-Pope, on Instagram by sharing his song, “Grandma Boy.”
