  • Black Panther Teams With the Fantastic Four in Latest ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Teaser

The Fantastic Four make their introductions with the leaders of Wakanda in the latest teaser trailer for Marvel StudiosAvengers: Doomsday.

Disney is set to release directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo‘s feature theatrically on Dec. 18. The film will include a lengthy list of Marvel superheroes facing off against Doctor Doom, played by returning Marvel Cinematic Universe stalwart Robert Downey Jr.

The movie’s footage was released online Tuesday and features voiceover from Shuri (Letitia Wright), who took up the mantle of Black Panther in 2022’s Wakanda Forever following the death of brother T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman).

“I’ve lost everyone that matters to me,” Wright says in the new trailer. “A king has his duties to prepare our people for the afterlife. I have mine.”

The teaser also shows M’Baku (Winston Duke) introducing himself as the King of Wakanda, after Shuri opted not to challenge him for the throne in Wakanda Forever. That film also included the MCU debut of Namor (Tenoch Huerta), who appears in the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday.

“King M’Baku of Wakanda,” Duke tells Ben Grimm, aka The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). The Fantastic Four member responds, “Ben, Yancy Street between Broome and Grand.”

The rest of the MCU’s Fantastic Four — Mr. Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), the Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby) and the Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) — will also appear in Doomsday after debuting in last summer’s 1960s-set The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

This is the fourth teaser that Marvel has shared online for the forthcoming film. The previous clips focused on scenes with Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the X-Men’s Cyclops (James Marsden).

Marvel Studios revealed an extensive list of castmembers from the film in March during a lengthy livestream. The centerpiece of the project is Downey, who previously starred as the MCU’s Iron Man before the character died in the most recent Avengers movie, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Doomsday will be followed by sequel Avengers: Secret Wars a year later.

  • Mickey Rourke Stars in ‘3 Days Rising’ Trailer Alongside Peter Greene’s Final Lead Role (Exclusive)

Mickey Rourke and the late Peter Greene are among the notable stars of a forthcoming indie feature offering an updated take on a classic Edgar Allan Poe work.

Director Craig Cukrowski’s psychological drama 3 Days Rising reimagines the short story The Fall of the House of Usher and boasts a cast that includes Rourke, Greene, Ice-T, Vincent Young and Kelly Monrow. The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively debut the movie’s trailer, seen below, before its planned debut on the festival circuit later this year.

3 Days Rising marks the final lead feature role for Greene, who died last month at 60 and was known for parts in Pulp Fiction, The Mask and Training Day. Cukrowski, who helmed the film from brother Derek Cukrowski’s script, had been friends with Greene for more than 20 years and notes that the actor’s real-life personality was much different from the hardened characters he portrayed.

“He’s the exact opposite of his screen persona,” Craig Cukrowski tells THR. “He’s a very warm, caring, emotional person and very generous. That’s the side of Peter that I always knew as his friend, and then it was a privilege to get to see the professional side of him, where he immerses himself completely in a character.”

Cukrowski explains that not only was the project written as a starring vehicle for Greene, but that a character was specifically created for Rourke as well. However, the team was unsure if Rourke would appear in the movie until right before the start of principal photography, which wrapped a few years ago.

“That was a dream come true,” the filmmaker says of casting Rourke. “It’s a pinch-yourself moment because when we wrote the story, we had always envisioned Mickey Rourke playing that character. We did not cast that role because we were holding out to hopefully get Mickey. Two weeks into production, we finally got Mickey, and then we shot him a week later.”

Cukrowski gets emotional when recalling Greene’s reaction to the finished version of 3 Days Rising. “After Peter screened the latest cut, he called me in tears because he was so happy with it,” the director says. “He oddly referred to it as the ultimate swan song, which I just blew off as Peter being Peter with hyperbole. He was very proud of the work.”

3 Days Rising centers on Greene’s character dealing with a diminishing grip on reality as his estranged siblings pull him back into his violent past. Cukrowski produced the film alongside Greene, Ice-T, Derek Cukrowski, Tim O’Brien and Noel Ashman.

O’Brien adds, “Peter gave himself completely to this film — creatively, emotionally and spiritually. Living on location throughout the shoot fostered a rare level of trust and intimacy that permeates every frame. 3 Days Rising is not only his final performance, but a lasting testament to who he was as an artist and as a human being.”

  • Watch the trailer for the KCRA 3 documentary “Liberty and Limits: Guns in California”

I have these Black Panthers up here with guns on the 2nd floor. Is this the way the racist government works? Don’t let *** man, uh, exercise his, his, his constitutional rights. They never gave the party credit for anything. We were the boogeymen. It’s become, um, you know, *** very complicated, interesting area of law. Is it about who has the guns, who has the guns, you know, it’s, it’s plain to see. It’s what we call *** sentinel event. It’s not just that the event happened, it’s that that event was in everybody’s living room. There’s another one in California, and that was the mass shooting at Cleveland School in Stockton. Shortly before 120 Tuesday. *** lone gunman, Patrick Edward Purdy, walked onto the playground at Cleveland Elementary armed with 2 pistols and *** semi-automatic rifle. 18 bullets came through my wall. The whole room turned white. Mass shootings were not *** thing. School shootings were unheard of. I tried to find out where they were where they were hit. I tried to stop the bleeding. Her leg was shattered. All her bones in her leg was shattered, but this year there’s an all-out push by certain lawmakers to ban all semi-automatic military-type weapons. From my cold dead hands. Like this one, the Soviet designed AK-47 assault rifle. There is absolutely no reason why out on the street today *** civilian should be carrying *** loaded weapon. The Constitution says the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. You can turn back in time and you can say right there. It’s where the course of events change.

The first trailer for BET+’s hit comedy series The Ms. Pat Show has hit the internet (below), and it reveals there’s plenty of chaos ahead, as well as an incredible list of guest stars coming to play. Season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, January 7, with three new episodes. New singular episodes will drop weekly following the premiere on Wednesdays.

Based on comedian Pat “Ms. Pat’ Williams-Lee’s life experiences, which she covers in her memoir “Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat,” the series tells the story of a former drug dealer and convicted felon turned suburban mom. An updated version of the traditional TV comedy format, the series portrays a modern, multi-generational African American family navigating life’s twists and turns against the backdrop of current cultural chaos with unfiltered realness.

The first four seasons of the R-rated sitcom unpacked everything from drug addiction and abortion to sexual abuse and dysfunctional family cycles. Season 5 continues that trend as the multi-dimensional Carson family tackles topics including scars left by absent parents, scars created by present parents, and following your dreams through all of it. BET+ touts Season 5 as the show’s “wildest, most uproarious season yet,” as the Carsons discover that the only constant is change.

Guest stars in Season 5 include Raven-SymonéTisha Campbell, Tristan “Mack” Wilds, Omeretta, Sandra Caldwell, Loretta Devine, and the vocal trio SWV. Campbell, Raven-Symoné, and Devine’s roles are teased in the trailer above. It’s also worth noting the return of series co-creator Jordan E. Cooper, who will reprise his role of Sadiq Shay.

More about the first trio of shows dropping tomorrow below.

Raven Symoné, Briyana Guadalupe (front) and J. Bernard Calloway in Episode 501

Episode 501 “Killin’ and Dyin’”: It becomes clear that Pat (Williams-Lee) is doing too much when she faints and is ordered to rest, but there is no rest for Pat as she’s determined to perform at a big comedy show with a big star (Raven Symoné). She enlists Junebug (Theodore John Barnes) to cover for her, but at what cost?

Brittany Inge as Ashley and Vince Swann as Brandon, whose natural father’s ashes are lost in Episode 502

Episode 502 “Wild Goose Chase”: The family has a yard sale to clear out the junk in the house, but when Lloyd’s ashes and last words are lost and a very personal video to Pat and Terry (J. Bernard Calloway) is accidentally sold, the pressure is on to get them back, at any cost.

L to R: J. Bernard Calloway as Terry, Ms. Pat as Pat, and Theodore John Barnes as Junebug in still from 'The Ms. Pat Show' Season

    J. Bernard Calloway, Pat “Ms. Pat’ Williams-Lee and Theodore John Barnes in Episode 503

    BET+

Episode 503 “License and Registration?”: Janelle (Briyana Guadalupe) is stressed over Pat messing up her college course registration and Terry being an overprotective Dad, but it’s Junebug who will need to be protected after he steals and crashes a certain someone’s car.

The series also stars Tami Roman, who returns as Pat’s sister Denise. In the trailer, it looks like Denise has a new romantic interest, and this time, he’s not a white guy.

The Ms. Pat Show is created by Williams-Lee and Cooper, who also serve as executive producers alongside Rose-Catherine Pinkney, Lee Daniels, Brian Grazer, Deb Evans, Patrick Walsh, Jon Radler, Natalie Berkus, and Mary Lou Belli, with Walsh also acting as creative producer. Allison Bosma and Jon DeWalt serve as co-executive producers.

  • James Marsden Returns as Cyclops in Third ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer

James Marsden makes a fiery return as the comic book character Cyclops in the latest preview for Avengers: Doomsday ahead of the movie’s December theatrical release.

As the X-Men return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the teaser, which dropped on Tuesday, mostly features Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto in a somber dialogue about death. “The question is: Who would you be when you close your eyes?” Professor X questions at one point in the teaser.

That’s quickly followed by the character Scott Summers, also known as goggle X-Man Cyclops, suiting up for the upcoming film from directors Joe and Anthony Russo after earlier trailers revealed returns for God of Thunder Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers.

The superheroes — everyone from the original X-Men to the Fantastic Four — will face off against Doctor Doom, played by Marvel patriarch Robert Downey Jr. in one of two Avengers films to roll out later this year.

Marsden appeared as the Marvel character in X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), though his character died in the latter film. Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in theaters Dec. 18.

Marsden, over the summer, spoke about returning to the Marvel universe and addressed his character’s fate.

“I’m getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume,” he said, laughing, in an interview with Vanity Fair. “I was excited because you’re a part of something gigantic. I’ve spent 20 years listening to people say, ‘When are you coming back? When are you coming back? Are you coming back?’ I’m dead. Well, maybe not. I’m going to have a tough time struggling to get into costume if they waited a couple more years. So it’s been a blast. It really has. It’s been a nice little homecoming to a role that really put me on the map. It was the first real event project that I was ever a part of, and a very beloved character, this icon from the comics. And so to step back into that role was pretty special.”

That will be preceded by the theatrical rerelease on Sept. 25 of Avengers: Endgame. Endgame was part of an epic story involving the villain Thanos and the culmination of Marvel’s phase three of its movie release slate.

  • Zazie Beetz Slices and Dices Her Captors in Gory ‘They Will Kill You’ Trailer

Zazie Beetz does not appear to be enjoying a restful hotel stay in the blood-soaked trailer for the forthcoming horror-comedy feature They Will Kill You.

They Will Kill You centers on a newly hired housekeeper (Beetz) at a mysterious New York City hotel known as the Virgil. She soon learns that the building is the headquarters for a satanic cult, with the members having chosen to murder her as a sacrifice.

In the trailer, Beetz gets this chilling warning: “This building is a temple to Satan. Each month, we must pay with a human sacrifice. Tonight, you are the offering.”

Later, a character asks Beetz, “Where did you learn how to fight like that?” She responds by nonchalantly saying, “Prison.”

Sokolov helmed the film from a script he co-wrote with Alex Litvak. Hailing from New Line Cinema and Nocturna, They Will Kill You counts Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Dan Kagan as producers. Litvak and Sokolov executive produce the project alongside Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder and Carl Hampe.

Beetz can currently be seen opposite André Holland and Kate Mara in The Dutchman, which hit theaters over the weekend. She also has a role in Gore Verbinski’s feature Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, set for theatrical release next month.

Director Thomas Kail’s remake of the original 2016 animated film hits theaters July 10, 2026. The trailer includes the title character performing the song “How Far I’ll Go,” which was featured in the initial movie.

The studio had a massive hit with the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, while Barry Jenkins’ prequel movie Mufasa: The Lion King also had a strong showing when it debuted late last year.

  • ‘One Lil Fight’ Finale: Trailer For ‘Bel-Air’s’ Fourth & Final Season Teases Banks Family Fracas Alongside Tyra Banks, Janet Hubert & Snoop Dogg Cameos

    Source: Courtesy / Peacock

The official trailer for the fourth and final season of Bel-Air has just dropped, and Peacock has confirmed that the series will wrap with eight episodes, premiering on November 24, 2025. Fans have followed this reimagined Fresh Prince journey from Philly to the hills of Bel-Air, and now it all comes down to senior year: drama, growth, and a whole lot of emotions included. According to Peacock’s press release, Will is entering his last year of high school, trying to balance excitement with the pressure that has been building around him since he first arrived in Los Angeles. Carlton, meanwhile, is still rebuilding after his struggles, with the network teasing that some major decisions could determine his entire future. The Banks household will also see a shake-up, with hints of a “power shift” between Uncle Phil and Geoffrey that could test loyalty and trust in ways we haven’t seen before.

Season 3 set the stage for all of this. We watched Will hustle his way through summer, navigating new spaces and expectations while trying to define who he really wants to be. Carlton spent the season fighting to regain his footing while confronting the fallout from his addiction; Hilary focused on love, career, and the complicated emotional history with Jazz; and Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv faced real questions about the direction their marriage and family were headed next. Things came to a head in the finale with a series of bombshells, including Viv’s pregnancy reveal, Hilary and Lamarcus’ wedding tensions, and the most dramatic twist of all…Will being kidnapped by people tied to Geoffrey’s London past.

Season 4 will pick up right where that intensity left off. Will enters senior year with his closest relationships being tested and a real sense of “Who am I going to be in the world?” hanging over him. Carlton’s redemption arc gets even more serious as he’s forced to confront the consequences of his choices head-on. Aunt Viv prepares for motherhood again while balancing her personal dreams. Phil and Geoffrey’s dynamic shifts into uncertain territory, setting up what could be one of the most emotional and explosive arcs in the series. And yes, expect some big guest moments along the way, including a cameo from Snoop Dogg, adding extra star power as the show heads towards its finale.

With only eight episodes to go, Bel-Air is stepping into its final run with purpose. Instead of dragging things out, the series is closing on its own terms, making room for character payoffs, tough conversations, and emotional wins as everyone’s story reaches a turning point. It’s the end of the road for this version of the Banks family, and the final season promises to blend heartfelt moments, cultural impact, character growth, and the kind of drama fans have come to expect. If nothing else, it’s clear Bel-Air plans to go out with meaning and momentum, leaving us with closure, surprises, and a last look at how far these characters have come. Check out Season 4’s official trailer and some first-look images from the season below. Share your thoughts in the comment section.

  • New PvZ Replanted Trailer Is Very Cringey And Not Good

When I hit play on EA’s new “deep dive” trailer for the upcoming Plants vs Zombies Replanted, I didn’t expect to be presented with a fake stream featuring two actors pretending to be hip and cool content creators playing the new remastered version of PopCap’s beloved tower defense game. Yet that’s what this new trailer is. It’s so strange and cringey.

Announced earlier this year, Plants vs. Zombies Replanted is a 4K remastered version of the original 2009 PvZ with some new content as well as bonus features like the co-op mode first seen in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Think of it as the ultimate version of the popular game, which will finally be available on consoles and PC later this month. I’m very excited to replay PvZ after not touching the game for many, many years. But a new trailer from EA showing off PvZ Replanted nearly made me question my excitement for this remastered classic.

Released on October 14, EA’s “Deep Dive Trailer” does indeed show off a lot of the upcoming PvZ Replanted, including a new perma-death mode and the return of all the minigames found in past ports. That’s great. What’s not great is that all of this information is, for some reason, delivered to us via two fake streamers playing the game on a fake stream, complete with fake chat and forced reactions. Here’s the trailer:

Yeah, it’s pretty bad. After watching it the first time, I felt like it must have been nearly 10 minutes long, but it’s not even 4 minutes. It just felt so much longer. I guess hearing a fake streamer yell out “Spud Yeah!” can make you lose track of time.

The comments below the trailer are, predictably, not positive, with many excited about the game but unsure why EA decided to market it this way. The top-voted comment simply states: “‘How do you do fellow kids’ trailer.”

Yeah, teens and kids aren’t stupid. They’ll see right through this obvious corporate-approved attempt to recreate a Twitch stream in the most sanitized way possible, say “Cringe,” and move on. PvZ is good. Just show people how much better this version looks and some of the new features. That’s all you gotta do to get people on board. The $20 price tag is also a great selling point that this trailer fails to mention.

Anyway, bad, cringey trailer aside, I’m still excited to play Plants vs Zombies Replanted when it arrives on consoles and PC on October 23.

  • Netflix’s ‘Who Killed the Montreal Expos?’ Aims to Place Blame for Baseball Team’s Demise

A new Netflix documentary aims to get to the bottom of why the Montreal Expos struck out.

The streamer has released the trailer for Who Killed the Montreal Expos? ahead of the film debuting on the platform Oct. 21. Who Killed the Montreal Expos? is set to premiere at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montreal on Oct. 9.

Director Jean-François Poisson’s film centers on the lingering questions and mysteries surrounding the demise of the Expos. The team was the first in Major League Baseball to call Canada home and remains popular with many Quebecois despite playing its last game in 2004.

Hall of Famers and former Expos players Pedro Martinez, Vladimir Guerrero Sr. and Larry Walker are interviewed for the documentary, along with former manager Felipe Alou and a number of journalists, fans and team employees.

“As good as we are in hockey, Montreal is a baseball city,” Martinez says in the trailer.

“The Expos’ death is kind of like a big game of Clue,” one participant explains in the footage. “Lots of motives. Lots of suspects. We have a long list.”

The Expos debuted as a part of the National League East division in 1969. After decades of ups and downs, the MLB purchased the team, and it moved to Washington, D.C., following the 2004 season to become the Washington Nationals.

Who Killed the Montreal Expos? is set to make its streaming release three days before the 2025 World Series begins on Oct. 24. This year’s MLB playoffs begin Tuesday.

  • Daniel Craig Returns to Solve “Impossible Crime” in ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ Trailer

Daniel Craig is heading to church for guidance in the teaser trailer for Netflix‘s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Writer-director Rian Johnson‘s third feature in the Knives Out franchise is set for release in select theaters Nov. 26 before its streaming debut Dec. 12. Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack and Thomas Haden Church round out the film’s ensemble cast.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery centers on detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) attempting to figure out his most dangerous case yet. The first trailer (below) teases the mysterious death of a charming priest.

“To understand this case, you need to look at the myth that’s being constructed,” Craig says in the footage. “A man gives a sermon. He then, in plain sight of everyone, walks into a sealed concrete box. Thirty seconds later, that man is lying dead. A classic, impossible crime.”

Johnson helmed the movie from his own script. The filmmaker produced the project alongside Ram Bergman.

Here’s the logline: “Benoit Blanc (Craig) returns for his most dangerous case yet in the third and darkest chapter of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery opus. When young priest Jud Duplenticy (O’Connor) is sent to assist charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), it’s clear that all is not well in the pews. Wicks’ modest-but-devoted flock includes devout church lady Martha Delacroix (Close), circumspect groundskeeper Samson Holt (Church), tightly-wound lawyer Vera Draven, Esq. (Washington), aspiring politician Cy Draven (McCormack), town doctor Nat Sharp (Renner), best-selling author Lee Ross (Scott) and concert cellist Simone Vivane (Spaeny). After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic.”

The franchise kicked off with the original Knives Out, which Lionsgate released theatrically in 2019. Not quite two years later, Netflix bought the exclusive rights to a pair of sequels, with the first follow-up — Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery — launching in late 2022.

In his review of Wake Up Dead Man for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney praised the film’s “considerable plus of Josh O’Connor as a former boxer turned priest who becomes both a murder suspect and a Watson to Benoit Blanc’s Sherlock Holmes.”

  • 6 Awesome-Looking Games That Went Under The Radar At Gamescom 2025

Gamescom 2025 was the biggest on record. Maybe your eyes began to glaze over from the multi-day barrage of new game announcements, trailers, and interviews. Now that the dust has begun to settle, we can finally reflect on a few of the fresh looks at cool, upcoming projects that may have gone under the radar. The following games didn’t catch the Gamescom spotlight, but they did catch my eye. Here are six neat trailers you probably missed.

Katanaut is a cosmic horror slash ’em up

Katanaut is a 2D pixel art roguelite about killing tons of abominations in a post-apocalyptic urban hellscape. You run, slash, dodge, and find lots of power-ups along the way. Will survival be rewarded with some cooler sci-fi story reveals than your average roguelike? I hope so. It comes to PC on September 10.

Wild Blue brings back classic Star Fox vibes

Wild Blue is an on-rails shooter starring anthropomorphic animals trying to save the world one blown-up enemy ship at a time. It’s being developed by Chuhai Labs, founded by Giles Goddard, one of the original programmers of Star Fox on the SNES. While we’ve gotten a few other spiritual successors like Whisker Squadron: Survivor, a new Star Fox doesn’t seem in the cards anytime soon, so the more the merrier. There’s no release date yet.

Kaidan is a samurai extraction game

Kaidan‘s trailer might be giving some people Soulslike flashbacks, but it actually seems like it might have more in common with the quick, arcade action of a 3D Ninja Gaiden. You play as a samurai in feudal Japan fighting Cthulhu-infused horrors, but the real twist is that it’s an extraction-lite. You’ll prepare for missions, select from multiple characters, and head into them solo or with an online group to fight mythical Yokai and try to come out the other side alive. It’s confirmed for a release on PC, but there’s no timeframe yet.

Project Bloomwalker is a Studio Ghibli-looking cozy sim with a twist

Project Bloomwalker is about removing blight from the world with a magical house that’s moved around by robotic legs. Once you settle down somewhere, you forage for materials, craft crystals, and try to get everything you need to restore the area to its natural splendor before moving on again. There are more than a few hints of Howl’s Moving Castle in the air, and the best part is that you get to recruit cute little creatures called Oddlings to help you with your survival crafting chores.

Lost Hellden has the PS2-era JRPG charm

Lost Hellden is an old-school Japanese RPG with shades of PS2 classics like Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest 8. There’s a job system, skill tree, and painterly backdrops to the areas you’re exploring. Final Fantasy veteran Hitoshi Sakimoto is helping with the music, and Gravity Rush artist Takeshi Oga is involved with the character art. Combat blends turn-based decision-making with real-time mechanics. There’s even a card-based mini-game. It’s all there on paper, though I’ve seen enough of these kinds of games fail to stick the landing to keep me cautiously optimistic.

Morsels is a Pokémon-like collectathon in the sewers

Morsels has you play as a mouse who transforms into strange creatures mutated by sewer life and has access to unique abilities. Structured as a roguelite, you can swap between the creatures you encounter on demand in order to fight your way back up to the surface and defeat the ruling regime of cats. Some are calling it a cross between The Binding of Isaac and Atomicorps. It looks really pretty and is mixing together enough different ideas to have a shot at distinguishing itself in a crowded genre. It’s set to launch on console and PC on November 18.

  • Colin Farrell Risks It All in Wild Trailer for Edward Berger’s Netflix Movie ‘Ballad of a Small Player’

Colin Farrell finds himself in a high-stakes state of mind in the teaser trailer for Netflix‘s Ballad of a Small Player.

Netflix releases Edward Berger‘s feature in select U.S. theaters Oct. 15 and in select U.K. and Ireland theaters two days later before it begins streaming Oct. 29. Fala Chen, Deanie Ip, Alex Jennings and Tilda Swinton round out the cast.

Ballad of a Small Player centers on Lord Doyle (Farrell), a high-stakes gambler who is dealing with debts and his questionable past. While trying to keep a low profile in Macau, he receives a tempting offer from mysterious casino employee Dao Ming (Chen) while also avoiding private investigator Cynthia Blithe (Swinton).

The eye-catching trailer features a collection of quick scenes as Farrell is shown sitting on the floor of the shower, cracking open a lobster in a hotel room, screaming during a card game and watching a raging fire.

“I may be out of puff, but I still have my balls,” Farrell declares in the footage.

Berger helmed the film from a script by Rowan Joffe that is based on author Lawrence Osborne’s 2014 novel. Berger, Mike Goodridge and Matthew James Wilkinson serve as producers.

Ballad of a Small Player is set to premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival before screening at other fall festivals. Farrell is set to receive the Golden Icon Award when the movie plays at the Zurich Film Festival on Sept. 27.

Berger directed Netflix’s 2022 film All Quiet on the Western Front, which was nominated for nine Oscars. His most recent film was last year’s thriller Conclave, with the Focus Features release landing the Academy Award for best adapted screenplay.

  • ‘Good Boy’ Trailer Shows Haunted House From Dog’s Perspective

In the official trailer for Good Boy, released Monday, Indy, a loyal dog, and his owner Todd (Shane Jensen) move to a new home but find paranormal activity lurking in the dark. As these evil forces encroach, the pup finds the courage to protect his owner and territory.

The preview kicks off with snippets of Indy as a pup with heartwarming messages on the screen including, “man’s best friend”, “always by your side” and “through the good times.” The trailer then takes a scary turn, as the dog perks up following suspicious sounds in the dead of night.

Eerie knocking fills the silence in the house, and Indy heads over to investigate. The banging only grows louder as an unknown person pounds their forehead into a door. Indy barks loudly to alert Todd that something is wrong, but viewers are left on a cliffhanger as the clip sharply cuts away.

A barrage of spooky scenes follow, with Todd’s grandfather (Larry Fessenden) unleashing a bloodcurdling growl as the dog looks on. Fast paced clips of Indy fill the rest of the preview as he scampers through forests and keeps watch at night.

The official synopsis of Good Boy states: “Our canine hero, Indy, finds himself on a new adventure with his human owner — and best friend — Todd, leaving city life for a long-vacant family home in the country. From the start, two things are abundantly clear: Indy is wary of the creepy old house, and his affection for Todd is unwavering.”

Good Boy marks director Ben Leonberg’s feature debut, and there is no better main actor for his first feature than his own dog, Indy.

The Good Boy cast also includes Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck and Stuart Rudin. The film premiered at the SXSW Film Festival back in March.

IFC Films will release the film in North American theaters on Oct. 3, with the U.K. release following a week later on Oct. 10.
