“Baahubali” star Rana Daggubati‘s Spirit Media is making a leap into Hindi-language cinema with an adaptation of Booker winner Aravind Adiga’s acclaimed novel “Last Man in Tower,” starring Manoj Bajpayee and directed by Ben Rekhi.
The announcement comes as part of a five-film slate spanning the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages that the Hyderabad-based studio unveiled, just ahead of the release of its first home production, “Kaantha,” the Tamil period-noir drama thriller starring Dulquer Salmaan.
The untitled adaptation of “Last Man in Tower” marks a significant milestone for Spirit Media as it expands beyond South Indian cinema. The film delves into the moral compromises that accompany ambition, the fragility of human relationships under pressure and the shifting fabric of contemporary India.
“With ‘Kaantha’ releasing soon, I’m thrilled to announce Spirit’s Hindi production debut with the adaptation of ‘Last Man in Tower,’” said Daggubati, founder of Spirit Media. “Manoj Bajpayee has played so many iconic roles, and to partner with him on a story like this — we couldn’t have had a better team of collaborators to do our first Hindi film with.”

Bajpayee spoke to the weight of adapting such material. “When a book with such depth moves to screen, the responsibility is both meaningful and inspiring,” he said. “And with Rana Daggubati’s studio behind it, there is a strong sense of purpose and backing. Their belief in sincere storytelling gives the film the space and confidence it deserves. Working with Ben Rekhi has been a very rewarding experience.”
Director Rekhi praised the source material: “Aravind Adiga is one of the greatest writers of our generation, and once again he is ahead of his time. I’m so thrilled to have worked with such incredible collaborators to bring his brilliant book to life.”
The slate also includes “Kaantha,” set for release Nov. 14, which reunites Spirit Media with Dulquer Salmaan. “I heard the story of ‘Kaantha’ in 2019 and fell in love instantly,” Salmaan said. “It truly is a labour of love and one of the most special films in my career. The process of partnering with newer creative talent and Rana as a producer has been a really fulfilling experience.”
Rounding out the lineup are Telugu-language productions “Dark Chocolate,” a pulpy thriller dark-comedy co-produced with Waltair Productions; “Psyche Siddharth,” a debut feature that Spirit Media will present and distribute; and “Premante,” a love-comedy-thriller backed by the studio and debut producer Jhanvi Narang.
Spirit Media has positioned itself as a champion of independent cinema, recently backing Cannes winner “All We Imagine As Light” and Sundance winner “Cactus Pears” for theatrical distribution across India.

Rohan Parashuram Kanwade’s “Cactus Pears” (Sabar Bonda) is heading home to India after making history earlier this year as the first Indian fiction feature to win the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
“Baahubali” star Rana Daggubati‘s Spirit Media has secured Indian distribution rights for the Marathi-language drama, which previously distributed Cannes Grand Prix winner “All We Imagine as Light” in the territory. The film has also locked North American distribution with Strand Releasing.
Set against the rugged landscape of western India, the film follows Anand, a city-dweller coping with personal loss and family pressures as he undertakes a 10-day mourning ritual in his ancestral village. There he reconnects with Balya, a childhood friend facing similar societal expectations. The cast includes Bhushaan Manoj, Suraaj Suman and Jayshri Jagtap.
The film marked multiple milestones at Sundance, standing as India’s only feature in competition and the first Marathi-language film ever to premiere at the festival. It earned praise from the jury, which called it “the great modern love story” and highlighted its “authentic point of view” that “opens the door to an intimate language we all understand.”
Since Sundance, the film has screened at over 25 international festivals, collecting honors including best feature film and audience choice awards at SXSW London, San Francisco International Film Festival and IFFLA.
“At Spirit Media, we champion great stories that can transcend beyond languages and borders,” said Daggubati. “‘Sabar Bonda’ has carried Indian cinema to new heights on the global stage; all credit to Rohan for bringing such honesty and tenderness to it and the producers for supporting this film’s journey.”

The filmmaker comes from humble beginnings, raised in a one-room Mumbai slum home by a chauffeur father and homemaker mother. He transitioned to filmmaking from interior design, with his shorts screening globally before developing “Cactus Pears” through the Venice Biennale College Cinema 2022-2023 program.
The international co-production was developed through multiple platforms including the NFDC Marathi Script Camp, Film London Production Finance Market, Film Bazaar Co-Production Market, Venice Gap Financing Market and Goes to Cannes.
Producers include Neeraj Churi (U.K.), Mohamed Khaki (Canada), Kaushik Ray (U.K.), Naren Chandavarkar (India), Sidharth Meer (India) and Hareesh Reddypalli (India), with co-producers Jim Sarbh and Neha Kaul, and associate producer Rajesh Parwatkar.
The creative team features cinematographer Vikas Urs, editor Anadi Athaley, colourist Himanshu Kamble, sound designers Anirban Borthakur and Naren Chandavarkar, and costume designer Sachin Lovalekar.
Spirit Media, founded by Daggubati in 2005, specializes in original content development and distribution, talent management and creative brand marketing services from its Hyderabad headquarters.

The most heartfelt moment in the video belonged to Aswani Dutt when he said, “It took 50 years of my hard work to reach Amitji, Kamalji, and my friend Prabhas”. When the fans chanted once more, the teaser was played again at the venue.
Truly, the video is enough proof that the success of Kalki 2898 AD at a global level is something for the entire country to be proud of. Hopefully, the film will be successful in getting similar responses from the audience. The Nag Ashwin directorial aims high and has gone all out with its ambition.

At the event, Rana talked about how he believes Project K has the potential to break boundaries that even SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali films and RRR couldn’t.
Rana contended that Project K would expand opportunities for partnerships with Western countries. He believes that global collaborations will occur naturally, and soon Indian films made by Indian filmmakers will be popular in the West. He thinks that the world is becoming more familiar with Indian culture, which has a rich history and many stories to tell.

Anurag Kashyap has been making a lot of headlines, but not due to his film but for his unconventional behaviour and statements. Just a day ago, he claimed how he approached South Indian superstar Chiyaan Vikram for his film Kennedy, which is screened at the Oscars in 2023, and said how the Ponniyin Selvan star never got back to him. And immediately after this, Chiyyan Vikram mentioned that he himself called him, but there was no response, the filmmaker as massively trolled after this. And amid all these allegations, Manoj Bajpayee, who shares a strong bond with the filmmaker, called him a mad and eccentric man for not shooting Shool.
When asked if Anurag wasn’t happy with the changes that were made in Shool and hence left the film, Bajpayee said,” No, that wasn’t the case. He was the writer; he could’ve directed it if he wanted to. But he had a script for a film called Paanch. You will all know that he is a ‘dimaag ka tedha aadmi (slightly eccentric man)’. He had decided that his first film would only be Paanch and that he wouldn’t direct anything else before it.”
In one of his interviews, Anurag mentioned that he wasn’t happy with the last-minute changes in the script made by the producer of the film, and hence he left it. Manoj and Anurag have worked together in Gangs of Wasseypur, and till date, it is counted as one of the best films of Anurag Kashyap.

Actor Rana Daggubati criticized IndiGo on Sunday, after his luggage got misplaced and could not be tracked. Dagubatti described the incident as his worst flight experience ever. The actor vented his frustration on Twitter, questioning the airline about his missing luggage and their lack of knowledge about the flight schedule following a delay.
After getting to know about the flight delay due to a technical issue, Rana Daggubati and the others were instructed to board a different plane. They were further informed that their luggage would be transported on the same plane. However, when the actor arrived at Bengaluru Airport, he couldn’t find his luggage, and when he asked airline employees, they didn’t have an answer.
In response to the actor’s tweet, the domestic airline issued an apology for the “discomfort” he felt when his luggage wasn’t delivered.
IndiGo responded to the Bahubali actor’s Tweet by saying, “While we apologise for the inconvenience caused in the meantime, please be assured, our team is actively working to get your luggage delivered to you at the earliest.”
The actor responded sharing an IndiGo tweet that read: “Our engineers who ensure safe & hassle-free flights daily and non-stop.” He wrote, “Maybe engineers are good staff is clueless !! You might need to do something proper.” In another post, he tweeted, “More Paradise lost than found.”
“Note with this sale flights might not land or take off on anytime schedule!! – you’re luggage they’ll have no clue about,” Rana wrote in another promotional post.
IndiGo Airlines was fined Rs 5 lakh by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in May for refusing to allow a boy with special needs to board a flight from Ranchi.
Widespread criticism of IndiGo ground staff for not allowing the child to board had also led to a DGCA investigation.
