  • Madelaine Petsch, Gavin Casalegno to Star in YA Romance ‘Chasing Red’

    [ad_1]

Madelaine Petsch and Gavin Casalegno will star in the upcoming young adult romance Chasing Red, based on the Wattpad webnovel by Isabelle Ronin.

Mackenzie Munro will direct from a screenplay by Lauren Schacher, with Greg Silverman and Grant Torre of Stampede Ventures producing together with David Madden and Jason Goldberg of Webtoon Productions.

Petsch will play Veronica, a straight-A student determined not to fall for college heartthrob Caleb (Casalegno) and become his next conquest, even after a chance encounter sparks an undeniable attraction between the two of them. But on the run from a painful past and with nowhere to go, Veronica ends up moving into Caleb’s home. As the two grow closer, secrets begin to unravel, in the words of the promotional blurb, “love and betrayal collide in this addictive, slow-burn romance.”

Mister Smith Entertainment is handling international sales for the project and has closed deals for much of the world, with Amazon Prime Video taking the film for the U.K., Canada, Australia/New Zealand, France and Benelux; Capelight acquiring Germany; Leone Film Group taking Italian rights; Sun/Diamond handling Latin America, Spain, Portugal and South Africa; and Svensk taking the film for Scandinavia among other deals.

Wattpad is the online publisher of Anna Todd’s After series, which was turned into a five-film franchise that grossed $168 million globally. Chasing Red is the platform’s second most-read English-language title, with 261 million online reads. The story has been adapted into a Webtoon webcomic with 24 million views and published as both a print novel by Sourcebooks and a graphic novel by Webtoon Unscrolled.

Petsch, best-known for her breakout role as Cheryl Blossom on CW series Riverdale, produced and starred in the Amazon romantic comedy Maintenance Required, alongside Jacob Scipio. She appears in Lionsgate’s The Strangers, a three-film reboot of the psychological horror franchise, directed by Renny Harlin, with The Strangers: Chapter 3 set for release next year. She recently wrapped Killer Films’ Pretty Babies, from director Tyler-Marie Evans.

Casalegno stars as Jeremiah Fisher on Amazon Prime Video’s hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty, based on Jenny Han’s bestselling novels. He will next appear alongside Kathryn Newton and Lana Condor in the Jeff Wadlow-directed thriller The Devil’s Mouth for Amazon MGM.

Munro previously directed Wattpad’s independently financed romantic comedy Boot Camp (2024), and the 2021 feature Salvation.

Petsch is represented by CAA, Mosaic, The Lede Company and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. Casalegno is represented by Bold Agency, UTA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Vision PR and Skrzyniarz & Mallean. Munro is represented by Sugar23 and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson + Christopher LLP.

  • ‘The Strangers: Chapter 2’ Opening Is a Game of Hide and Seek

    [ad_1]

You may not know it, but we’re a few weeks out from The Strangers: Chapter 2. To help drum up interest for the film, Lionsgate’s put out a clip from the first few minutes of the film, which picks up where 2024’s Chapter 1 concluded.

Last we left off, Maya (Madelaine Petsch) survived the attack from the titular Strangers that left her boyfriend Ryan dead, and she ended the film recuperating in the hospital. But before she can worry about her health bill, she realizes that she’s not as free of the masked murderers as she thought, leading to her scrambling to avoid them any way she can, including hiding out in the morgue.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Petsch teased this next chapter in the The Strangers saga would offer more insight into the town of Venus, Oregon. The events of the sequel will span “almost the entirety” of the town, the actor said, and zero in on about 15 townspeople to understand how Venus got like this. Two particular characters of interest are Gregory (Gabriel Basso), Maya’s fellow roommate in the hospital, and Danica (Brooke Lena Johnson), the hospital nurse tending to them both.

Petsch called the value in the Strangers franchise its lead killers being “just real people who want to kill you” and said they’d also get some fleshing out during Chapter 2. What that entails, Lionsgate is keeping close to the vest, but what Maya goes through will take a toll on her “mentally, emotionally, and physically. We help the audience see that by showing a lot of her point of view and her questioning reality because she’s so exhausted…she’s starting to lose her grip on reality.”

This is a “character-driven horror” film, said Petsch, who also teased the already-made Chapter 3 could “turn [Maya] into a killer. When all three come out and people watch them, they’ll get that satisfaction they’re looking for.” We’ll see how that turns out when The Strangers: Chapter 2 hits theaters on September 26.

‘Riverdale’ Final Season Trailer: Archie And His Pals Are Stuck In 1955, But The Pairings Will Shock You

    [ad_1]

    By Philiana Ng‍ , ETOnline.com.

“Riverdale” is taking a time warp back to 1955 to kick off its final season.

The CW’s outgoing drama dropped the official trailer for season 7 on Thursday, setting up the shenanigans that Archie (KJ Apa) and the crew will endure as they try to piece together what happened following last season’s finale. After facing off against Percival and narrowly missing a deadly comet, the gang was transported back to the ’50s, where they found themselves reliving high school… again.

Unfortunately for the crew, only Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is aware of all that transpired prior to their new 1955 reality.

As the two-minute trailer reveals, Jughead has the tall task of trying to convince his pals — who find themselves living very unexpected lives and paired up in the most shocking relationships — why they don’t actually belong in the ’50s. It all sounds a bit ridiculous, so it’s difficult to fault Archie and company for turning a blind eye to Jughead’s pleas.

“All of us, we were all sent back in time. We need to get back 67 years ago… but in the future,” Jughead proposes to his very confused group of friends.

“We’re juniors in high school. Life is good. Why would we go back?” Archie tells Jughead.

As Jughead tees up, things are a little different in this version of Riverdale: Betty (Lili Reinhart) is dating Kevin (Casey Cott), Veronica (Camila Mendes) is a Hollywood celebrity, Archie is getting married to Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch), Veronica and Jughead kissing(?!) by the fireplace, and Toni (Vanessa Morgan) riles Cheryl up through a stage performance.

And of course, it wouldn’t be “Riverdale” without some life-or-death stakes as Archie screams bloody murder as he’s tied down to a wooden table as a mysterious figure walks toward him with a power saw, Betty is seen foaming at the mouth at a school dance and a devastated Ethel (Shannon Purser) says something “terrible” has happened.

Last October, ET spoke with Reinhart about saying goodbye to Betty and “Riverdale”.

“It has a bittersweet feeling to it,” she said. “And I think I’m kind of just trying to approach this season with not taking anything for granted, really trying to be present, trying to enjoy my co-stars. So, it’s different for me at least.”

The actress revealed at the time that she doesn’t plan on taking anything specific from set — the experience of making it is enough for her.

“I don’t want to hoard anything,” Reinhart said. “I have literally, the episodes, the hundred-plus episodes that I’ve done, I don’t need anything physical. I’m taking the experience with me.”

“Riverdale” premieres Wednesday, March 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
