Valentine’s Day isn’t the only thing special about Feb. 14. This was also the day that Wayne’s World premiered in the U.S. The movie featured iconic rock music moments, and the soundtrack topped the Billboard 200. Want more trivia from this day in rock music history? Here, you’ll discover the most memorable past events of Feb. 14 that have influenced the rock music industry.
Breakthrough Hits and Milestones
These Feb. 14 hits helped get rock music to where it is today:
1985: Whitney Houston released her self-titled debut album via Arista Records. After a slow start, it eventually reached the top of the US Billboard 200 albums chart and became the best-selling debut album of all time by a solo artist, launching the stellar career that eventually earned her a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
1987: Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” from their third album hit the top of the U.S. singles chart, becoming their second No. 1 hit.
1999: Lenny Kravitz’s “Fly Away“, the fourth single from his fifth studio album, 5, reached the top spot on the UK singles chart. It was his first UK No. 1 and also earned him a GRAMMY for Best Male Rock Performance.
2006: The Veronicas’ debut album The Secret Life of… is released in the United States.
Cultural Milestones
It’s hard to imagine where rock music would be today if it hadn’t been for these cultural events that took place on Feb. 14:
1972: Rob Thomas, a singer-songwriter and lead vocalist for Matchbox Twenty, was born on this day. Although he had a rocky childhood and a rough start to his music career, his band went on to have several hit songs and albums.
2000: KISS announced they would do a farewell tour that would end with an auction of their stage props. Of course, this wasn’t the last tour for the band as they continued touring until 2023, but it was the final tour to have Ace Frehley as a band member.
Notable Recordings and Performances
Major rock moments that happened on Feb. 14 include:
1967: Aretha Franklin recorded her famous version of Otis Redding’s “Respect” at New York City’s Atlantic Studios. It quickly became a hit, topping the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and earning her two GRAMMY awards at the 1968 ceremony.
1970: The Who performed an iconic concert at Leeds University’s Refectory. It was an amazing performance by a band at its peak and was captured and released as the Live at Leeds live album, which is widely seen as one of the best live albums of all time.
1973: Toward the end of a performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, David Bowie collapsed while singing an encore of “Five Years.” He passed out suddenly, shocking the audience, and a nurse later said Bowie was exhausted after completing 91 performances on his Ziggy Stardust tour.
2010: A cover of REM’s “Everybody Hurts” entered the charts. It was recorded for charity to help earthquake victims in Haiti. The recording featured big names such as Jon Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams, and Miley Cyrus, and the song reached No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart.
Industry Changes and Challenges
Rock music experienced these challenges on Feb. 14:
1981: Billy Idol left the band Generation X to become a solo artist, moving to New York City. He released his self-titled debut album in 1982, which included the song “White Wedding.”
2010: Doug Fieger, co-writer of the 1979 hit song “My Sharona” and lead vocalist for The Knack, died after a battle with lung cancer. He was only 57.
These historical events from Feb. 14 have affected the rock music landscape. Remember these moments, whether you’re celebrating with your special someone today or just rocking out alone.
Welcome to 2026, honeybees! New year, same old habits—doomscrolling on TikTok and saving our favorite audios every day. This week, Black artists from the ’70s and the early 2000s are topping the TikTok viral charts, and we’re loving every moment.
From Michael Jackson to Lenny Kravitz, here’s what’s trending on TikTok right now:
‘You Rock My World’ By Michael Jackson
Any trend that allows us to make TikToks with our best friend is a trend we want to be a part of. Michael Jackson’s 2001 ‘You Rock My World’ is the cutest bestie trend we’ve seen on our FYP in a while. Start off the new year right with this iconic 2000s MJ banger!
Another 2000s banger coming right up! Jordin Sparks was one of our inspirations growing up, and now we’re hearing ‘No Air’ up and down our timeline these days. If you were (and still are, obviously) a Jordin Sparks fan like us, we want to know which one of her hits you’d like to hear go viral!
The ’70s were some of the best times for music, and Cheryl Lynn’s ‘Got To Be Real’ is up there. When we hear this song, we can’t help but get up and dance (and also press that shiny red record button on TikTok). I mean, come on, those vocals go crazy.
With the finale of Stranger Thingshitting our screens on New Year’s Eve, Diana Ross’ ‘Upside Down’ is all anyone can sing. It’s the most perfect song for the last season of the show, let alone one of our favorite Diana Ross songs. Our FYP is burnin’ up with bangers this week!
When is PinkPantheressnot trending on TikTok?! She’s the queen of knowing what her fans want to hear, and that includes the recent remix of ‘Stateside’ featuring our Midnight Sun princess, Zara Larsson. We never thought PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson would team up on a song, but this remix has been playing nonstop both on our FYP and on our day-to-day playlists.
Our FYP has to have a sad song or two, and this week it’s Lenny Kravitz’s ‘It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over.’ Lenny Kravitz is one of those artists who just stand out from the rest—he’s a genius in R&B, soul, rock, and funk genres—and our FYP seems to agree!

One of the tried-and-true ways to get over heartbreak is to find a rebound. And after Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s divorce, there have been a lot of rumors about Urban allegedly moving on quite quickly, and with someone much younger than him. So, it comes as no surprise that now the spotlight has moved to Kidman, and whether she is ready to move on too.
Reportedly, her friends have one candidate. Her former fiancé Lenny Kravitz. “Nicole’s friends are telling her that the best thing she can do for herself is to start having fun again,” a source told the National Enquirer. “And Lenny seems like the perfect person to help her do that!”
The two were briefly engaged in 2003, but Kidman revealed to Vanity Fairin 2007 that they didn’t marry because “I wasn’t ready. We weren’t ready.” Now might just be the time, though. If not for marriage, at least for something else.
“By all accounts the red-hot chemistry they had has never gone away. It just makes sense to give it another whirl,” the source said. “Who knows where it could lead? Maybe at this stage in life things could work out for them long-term.” Along with Kravitz, Kidman was also married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. They share daughter Isabella Jane and son Connor Antony.
All of this comes after reports by Globe that Kidman plans on “hooking up with someone young and hot, herself,” particularly considering the recent reports on Urban. “The rumor is that he’s with a younger woman in the business,” a “Nashville music industry source told Daily Mail. “It’s all everyone is talking about. Everyone wants to know who, but so far, that’s a mystery.”
The relationship between the exes is reportedly about as bad as it could be. Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop alleges that the two are “only speaking through lawyers,” with a source saying, “It’s icy. They’re not even texting. Everything — custody, property, money — runs through the lawyers.”
And things were reportedly not doing well for a while. “They were always touchy-feely in public, but things have been off for a long time,” another source explained. “They were living separate lives,” a Nashville insider shared. “Love couldn’t survive the logistics.”
Globe also reported that the way Urban has handled the breakup is weighing heavy on Kidman. “Keith is refusing to come clean about what’s really going on, but everyone is saying that there’s another woman and all the signs are pointing to it being this 25-year-old guitar player,” the source said, referring to Maggie Baugh.
“It’s completely devastating for Nicole that he would abandon her and their marriage like this, but then, when you add in this element of it being for a woman less than half her age, the knife twists deeper,” the source explained, which might explain reports that Kidman wants to find someone new “to make Keith jealous and make him regret letting her go.”
“Her friends are hoping that once she actually does get with another man, it will take her mind off Keith and help her get past this betrayal,” the source also said. And hey, if that person ends up being Lenny Kravitz, maybe it’s a sign that things were always meant to come full circle.
Like father, like daughter, Zoë also seems to really mean it when the old “let’s still be friends” gambit is trotted out. She married actor Karl Glusman in June 2019. After 18 months of marriage, in December 2020, the couple filed for divorce. By 2022, she was already gushing in an interview with Elle that her ex was “an incredible human being.”
She expanded on her philosophy of romance, which sounds a lot like her dear old dad: “All my relationships in life—my friendships, my romantic relationships, my family—the journey is learning how to show up honestly,” she said. “Sometimes we can’t show up, and that’s okay as long as we know how to communicate that we love those people.”
Her most recent serious public relationship was with Channing Tatum, who starred in her directorial debut, Blink Twice, and to whom she got engaged along the way. Though they split in October 2024 after about three years, their breakup was—you guessed it!—amicable, according to sources.
After the breakup, a source told Page Six that the two “both handled the breakup very maturely” and that there was “no bad blood” between them. She continued to sing his praises in life and work, telling Elle in February 2025 that having her ex-fiancé in a leading role in her directorial debut wasn’t a problem.
“I love this thing that we made together, and I care for him very much,” she said. “Even when you bring up how great his performance is, it warms my heart to hear that, and I’m so happy that all of it happened. I just feel so grateful that we got to go on that journey together.”
Even her earlier relationships still get the amicable split label: A source insisted that she and Penn Badgley, whom she dated from 2011 to June 2013 and were in what Badgley described as “real, true, earth-shattering love,” ended on “good terms.” “It wasn’t a sad breakup,” the source said. That rumored Drake romance in 2013, complete with kissing photos at a Beyoncé concert? In 2017, Zoë slyly confirmed on Watch What Happens Live that they “hung out for a minute,” adding that “we are very good friends.” Singer-songwriter Twin Shadow, who was romantically linked to Zoë from 2015 to 2016, wished her a happy birthday on social media in 2024, calling her “the sweetest kid.”
In 2014, she was briefly rumored to be dating Chris Pine. There’s no bad blood there, as evidenced by the fact that he attended the 2019 pre-wedding rehearsal dinner held for her and Glusman in Paris with his girlfriend.
In an uncertain economy, side hustles are the norm now. In the unlikely event their acting and musical careers see a downturn, perhaps Lenny and Zoë could cash in by teaching a subscription masterclass in the art of the amicable breakup.
Representatives for the Kravitzes did not respond to Vanity Fair’s request for comment.
Sexy genes were on the scene at the Blink Twice European premiere where doting dad Lenny Kravitz supported his daughter Zöe who makes her directional debut in the buzzy thriller opening this Friday, Aug. 22.
At 60-years-young, Lenny is still the coolest rocker alive who shared sweet moments with his daughter who ravished in red in the latest stop of the film’s global promo tour.

In Blink Twice, Ackie stars as a cocktail waitress named Frida who’s obsessed with charismatic tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum).
As fate may have it, Frida “accidentally” bumps into King while working his fundraising gala, setting in motion a wild ride with twists, sharp left turns, and terror along the way.
By the end of the night, King invites her and her roommate Jess (Alia Shawkat) to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island.
At first, everything’s too good to be true–a cocktail-splashed paradise with good vibes, day-long parties, and nightly feasts–until strange things start to happen causing Frida to question her reality.
Check out the trailer below:
Directed by Kravitz, the senses-seducing film also stars famous faces including Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Haley Joel Osment, and Levon Hawke who play King’s, uh, interesting group of friends.
Rounding out the cast are the legendary Geena Davis, Liz Claribel, Adria Arjona, and Trew Mullen who play the other ladies invited along with Frida and Jess.
Blink Twice brings its thrilling viewing experience to theaters Aug. 23.
Kravitz revealed his commitment to celibacy while speaking with The Guardian in an interview published the same day. Kravitz also revealed that he hadn’t been in a serious relationship in nine years and is choosing to remain celibate until he finds a loving partner.
Ice-T seemingly believes Lenny’s behavior is bizarre. He tweeted, “9 yrs without sex? F that BS. Weirdo shit.”
The “Body Count’ rapper later decided to delete his vitriolic statement. However, he responded to commenters who caught his message before its removal.
“That’s wrong Ice!” a woman wrote. “That’s not weird. That’s his own journey.”
@FINALLEVEL tweeted, “Why judge him though? It’s his choice. He’s different to you…I don’t think it’s fair to assume something is wrong with him because he’s chose to celibate for a long period. I think there are many humans who can & do abstain for long periods for various reasons. Choice.”
Ice-T responded, “S***’s weird to me…., I love to F****. A lot.”
Ice-T is a former pimp, so it isn’t shocking that he disagrees with the idea of abstaining from sex. Lenny has yet to respond to the actor’s comments.
Lenny’s Thoughts On Celibacy
The 60-year-old told The Guradian his celibacy journey was “a spiritual thing.” He also shared that although he yearns to be in a relationship right now, he thinks that he has “become very set in [his] ways.”
Gayle King was ready to risk it all for Lenny Kravitz during their sit-down interview on ‘CBS Mornings.’ The 69-year-old broadcast journalist didn’t hesitate to let the rockstar know that she was feeling what he was dealing.
On Friday, CBS shared a full clip of King’s exclusive interview with Kravitz. Gayle made sure to ask Lenny about his love life and current relationship status.
“Do you have a significant other in your life? And can I beat her a** if she is? Oops, did I say that out loud?” Gayle told Kravitz.
Kravitz couldn’t help but laugh at Gayle’s remarks, which then he replied, “Right now, I’m just open. It’s hard not to look, when you desire something you’re looking for it, right? But I find that when you don’t look, is when you find it. And I’m at a place where I’ve said this for several years, I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready and I wasn’t ready, I thought I was ready. But I can say that I’ve never felt how I feel now,” Kravitz explained.
Social Media Reacts To Gayle King Flirting With Lenny Kravitz
Social media users immediately jumped into The Shade Room comment section to share their thoughts on Gayle flirting with Lenny. Several people gave her props for being so bold and shooting her shot at the singer.
Instagram user @_pettyking wrote, “Her intrusive thoughts won.”
Instagram user @marjeth26 wrote, “Auntie Gayle said I’m a Sports Illustrated cover girl stop playing with me Lenny!”
While Instagram user @domzthompson wrote, “Unpopular opinion: A woman taking her shot is very attractive. Very.”
Instagram user @altonking wrote, “Gayle ready to risk it all, ON CAMERA TOO.”
Instagram user @_miawalliss wrote, “Oh Gayle done did her Sports Illustrated cover and got bold! I see you Gayle.”
Then Instagram user @africanwaistline wrote, “How I’m shooting my shot in every area of my life for the rest of the year.”
Finally Instagram user @akapollya wrote, “Gayle is us. We are Gayle.”
Lenny Opens Up In Exclusive Interview With Gayle
Along with his love life, Kravitz discussed his new album ‘Blue Electric Light’ and how he feels about turning 60 this month. The ‘American Woman’ artist told Gayle that he’s in the best shape of his life and that he’s ‘never felt more young.”
Kravitz also opened up about his insecurities and how he continues to live an authentic lifestyle. The ‘Fly Away’ musician stated that people always assume he’s confident because of how he looks.
“Sometimes I’m not necessarily sure what is that I’m doing. for some reason. I’m still that 16-year-old kid trying to get the record deal,” Kravitz said.
Lenny Kravitz says he’s never felt more young. And he’s ready for his next chapter – whatever that may be.
“Well, I have no choice,” Kravitz joked with “CBS Mornings” co-anchor Gayle King during a recent interview. He’s getting ready to celebrate his 60th birthday on May 26.
Referencing his popular 1989 song “Let Love Rule,” King wondered if the music legend is letting love rule his life. She asked Kravitz if he currently has a partner or if he’s looking for one.
Kravitz admitted it’s “hard not to look” for something you desire, but right now, he’s “just open.”
“I find that when you don’t look is when you find it,” he told King. “And I’m at a place where I’ve said this for several years: ‘I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready.’ I wasn’t ready. I thought I was ready, right?”
“I think I was raised – not purposely, but to be a people pleaser. Where I put a lot of people’s feelings before mine. Because I want to see folks happy. And that can be detrimental if you go overboard with that,” Kravitz said.
Lately, Kravitz said he’s been focusing on himself and creating boundaries.
“That’s something that I’ve been exercising and growing in. Where no is necessary – at times. And this is something that I actually learned from my daughter,” Kraviz explained. “She’s so good at creating her boundaries. And boundaries are healthy, you know? But that generation, they don’t have time to play.”

Did you happen to catch Tyrese’s appearance on CBS The Talk this past Friday?
Source: Mondadori Portfolio / Getty
The actor and musician joined the show to promote his latest single “Love Transaction” and spoke about collaborating with Lenny Kravitz on his song “Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me.” Gibson also opened up about going through his divorce and using music to find the beauty in it.
“I was able to discover the beauty in my pain…” Tyrese said. “People are not loyal to you, they are loyal to their needs of you.”
Check out the clip below:
We couldn’t help but notice Tyrese said he was confused by his wife divorcing him and that he’s still trying to make sense of things. Do you think that he’s just looking for reassurance that he wasn’t tricked into marriage? Or do you think he’s already convinced himself that his wife was always being transactional? Relationships are so hard and being a celebrity definitely doesn’t make them any easier. Do you think that fame makes it harder to find a genuine love?
It’s no secret that Tyrese and his ex Samantha Lee have been battling over child support. His visit to The Talk also included some references to the exorbitant child support settlements many celebrities end up paying out following their divorces.
Tyrese even posted a clip from the show, with the following caption:
“Don’t be mad at me I was invited, so I showed up with my truth…. @thetalkcbs airs today at 2pm all I can say is GET READY!!!! Things got REAL, real fast….”
“Is this love or just a transaction,” Tyrese said. “Because how many more divorce trials are you going to see where a 2-year-old ends up with $300,000?” I don’t know where ya’ll from, but there is no such thing as a 3-year-old who needs $300,000 a month.”
$300K is much higher than the $20K amount that court records show Lee has requested, however, there are definitely some celebrities who do end up paying huge amounts like this. Do you think Tyrese is right, or is every child entitled to continue maintaining the lifestyle afforded them by a wealthy parent, regardless of divorce?
It’s definitely something to think about. Check out Tyrese’s single “Love Transaction” now. Tune in to The Talk on CBS. Check out your local listings for airtimes!

Big Little Lies was another success and she jumps from one great role to another.

Martin Solveig is nothing short of an icon in the electronic dance music world. Starting his career in 1994, Solveig has been paving the way for DJ’s and producers through refreshing symphonies of bass, drum, and vocals to create catchy, chart-worthy music. With hits like “Intoxicated”, “+1”, and “All Stars” under his belt, it’s a pleasure to find out what he has in store next for fans.
His previous album was Smash, 10+ tracks including chart-topping hit “Hello” with Dragonette and “Ready 2 Go” featuring Kele Okereke. The 2011 dance album was his fourth, marking the start of a 12 year long hiatus from music. In the meantime, Solveig used the time to draw inspiration and hone in on his music.
It was a much-needed, well-deserved break from making a full body of work- not to mention a years-long global pandemic that put everything else on pause. However, the time has come for Solveig to return with his fifth studio album: Back To Life. Back To Life is an exciting return that consists of your classic Solveig sound mixed with a bit of maturity, a ton of experience, and a newfound sense of life breathed into his tracks. You can listen to the album here:
Utilizing and uplifting the talents of vocalists like Raphaella, Faouzia, Stefflon Don, and more, each track is a new experience for the listener. Standout singles like “I Don’t Want To Work” featuring Stefflon Don prove that Martin Solveig has the attention to fine details and production skills that set him apart from the rest. With this album, and after working with mega-names in the industry like David Guetta, Madonna, and Jax Jones, it’s hard not to consider him one of the most iconic DJ’s in the game.
Popdust got a chance to speak with Martin Solveig on his break from music, Back To Life, and more below!
PD: Congratulations on your new album! It’s your first since 2011, why did you decide to take the past decade off from releasing a full body of work?
Thanks a lot ! I took a nice break during the pandemic, it was a necessary time for me to recharge deeply and find inspiration. I was able to find some time to listen to a lot of music and immerse myself in everything that makes me love music. After this break, I had quite a few things to say, and that’s why the album format seemed the most relevant to me.
PD: What finally inspired you to create Back To Life?
What inspired me to create the album is that there are many inspirations from the contemporary world, and I wanted to make something danceable but with some depth, and specifically a perspective on the world of 2023. Indeed, social media greatly inspired me to write songs like “I Don’t Want to Work”, “Now or Never”, and “Paradise”.
PD: Was there any difference creating this album than your last? What have you learned since 2011 that translated into this album?
The common thread between all the albums I’ve made in my life (5 of them) is that nothing was easy. They all took a lot of time, and I think they correspond to moments when I build new sound architectures and new creative processes, so there’s always some pain. However, this one was a bit simpler, making thing simpler has been a true improvement. Perhaps it was done with more serenity, and also technically, of course technology has evolved greatly over the past ten years. So, I was able to develop a system that allowed me to create very unique Sonics, quite personal, of which I’m particularly proud of, and that’s what you’ll hear a lot of on this album.
PD: What is one piece of advice you have for people looking to make dance music?
For young artists, I’ve been giving the same advice for 20 years. That is, first and foremost, be 100% honest and authentic. Try to gain as much confidence in your uniqueness and what you do, the uniqueness of your music, that’s very important. And then, when it comes to dance music in particular, I’d say the best indicator is to make music you want to play in your sets, to make music you want to mix in your sets, and to do it while taking great pleasure in the process. That’s something that always works.
PD: What are your favorite tracks on the album?
The ten tracks on the album are my ten favorites. Those that weren’t my favorites didn’t make it onto the album; that’s how I made the selection in the end. It was quite straightforward.
PD: You have a bunch of vocal collaborations on Back To Life, and in your music in general,do you have anyone you’ve been wanting to work with in the future?
The voice is my instrument; it’s my main tool to compose. I often use my voice in the demos, and I sometimes keep my voice in the final compositions (three tracks on this album). It’s something that is very dear to me, and that’s why I’m especially pleased to have collaborated with all the talented artists on this album, who are mainly emerging talents. Honestly, there are hundreds of artists I’d like to collaborate with in the future. One of them, and an example I often mention, though it will likely never happen, Lenny Kravitz
Lenny Kravitz knows what his fans want to see. The 56-year-old musician and actor launched countless image searches in 2015, when his pants split during a concert performance in Sweden, and when he posted a nude photo to his Instagram account this January, headlines swiftly followed. But for his latest viral moment—and his introduction to TikTok—Kravitz is shrouded from head to toe.
Those who worry that the star has taken a vow of modesty can relax. Kravitz’s first TikTok, which was posted on Saturday, is captioned “It’s the first day of fall,” a reference to that day’s autumnal equinox. In the five-second video, Kravitz strides across the screen in boots, jeans, a leather jacket, and a brown knit scarf the size of a couch throw. “Grab your big scarf,” he says. “It’s the first day of fall.”
The average TikTok user, who is reportedly between the ages of 16-24, might be scratching their heads at this, and not just because the temperature across much of the U.S. remains in the 70s (or higher), making a leather jacket—forget a giant scarf—an uncomfortable proposition. Youngsters gather round: Back in Ye Olde 2011, just a year after Instagram was born, Lenny Kravitz was photographed while walking down a New York City street in a scarf remarkably similar to the one in Saturday’s TikTok, and for some reason everyone lost their marbles.
Speaking with GQ in 2020, Kravitz admitted he was aware of the sensation the look caused. “It’s funny to see, especially on Halloween,” he said. “People either do the Lenny Kravitz look—the onstage look—or they do the scarf. And it’s funny, I saw some pictures yesterday of this little kid who did the whole thing perfectly down to the plastic bag coming from the grocery store.”
He also seemed aware that internet users had claimed the scarf for their own, manipulating images to enhance the inherent comedy of a man wearing a large scarf in public. “Okay, the scarf is big, but the internet has made the scarf enormous. You look at some of those [images] and it’s just like, ‘Okay guys, the scarf is three times bigger than it really is in this picture, but it was big and it was cold.’”
That “it was cold” explanation for the scarf is one Kravitz has been using for years, telling Jimmy Fallon in 2018, “I live in the Bahamas, I’m used to hot weather and I had to go to the store, I was buying some groceries and I thought I’d put on a little scarf to protect my throat, and that’s the scarf I had.”
“I had no idea that there would be paparazzi,” Kravitz said, “and that is now everything,” making his inaugural TikTok an arguable reclaiming of an experience and image many had forgotten. But with a Cadillac collab, namesake Dom Pérignon, Crate and Barrel collection, and spirits line, it’s probably wise to remind a new generation of social media users what he’s best known for in the 2000s: walking around in a really, really, really big scarf.
Music superstars Lenny Kravitz, Billie Eilish and H.E.R. will team with advocacy nonprofit Global Citizen for a free concert in front of the Eiffel Tower designed to convince world leaders to take further action against climate change.
“Power Our Planet: Live in Paris” is set for June 22 to coincide with the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact, a gathering of the world’s political and business leaders to help developing nations finance sustainability projects.
Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans says the summit is an opportunity for governments and global banks to collaborate to jump start climate projects stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic. He hopes “Power Our Planet” will encourage leaders to take advantage of that opportunity and provide the $16.7 billion in outstanding climate financing promised in 2009 to lower-income countries. He is also seeking to advance reforms at the World Bank to make up to $1 trillion in additional financing available.
“Global leaders and democratically elected governments really only respond to the momentum of their people and summits like this can come and go,” Evans told The Associated Press. “If it doesn’t achieve its goal, we’re going to miss the window this year to make the climate negotiations the success, which is even more important after last year’s complete failure in Egypt.”
The Eiffel Tower event is part of the Global Citizen initiative, announced last month at the Global Citizen NOW conference in New York, supporting Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley’s call to rewrite the rules of global development banks and relieve the debts of lower-income countries to increase funding for climate adaptation projects.
Global Citizen has shown for years, especially with its A-list concerts in New York’s Central Park, that it can generate action by having cultural leaders mobilize their supporters. And artists like Kravitz plan to motivate fans to “act today to save tomorrow.”
“The next generation are inheriting a planet that’s being devastated by climate change,” Kravitz said in a statement. “We have the power to change things with our voices and our actions.”
French President Emmanuel Macron supports the Global Citizen event, citing the need for “a world with more solidarity.”
“Crises are multiplying and the number of those who place their hope in peace and multilateralism will only grow if we, as a global community, demonstrate that we are there to help the most vulnerable,” Macron said in a statement. “Because there will be no climate transition worldwide if we don’t fight for more justice and equity.”
Major philanthropic organizations — including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Rotary International, and Open Society Foundations – as well as the public-private partnership Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, will also support the effort.
“Power Our Planet: Live in Paris,” which will also include performances from Finneas, Jon Batiste, and Ben Harper, will be livestreamed on Global Citizen’s social media platforms, while Amazon Music will host the livestream on its Twitch channel.

You may not be able to define in words what exactly makes a person attractive, but you know it when you see it.
Of course, there is a huge difference between what makes Justin Beiber hot and what makes Bill Nye the Science Guy hot (don’t judge, we don’t kink-shame in this household). For those of us who find men attractive—god help us—the question of attractiveness is particularly complicated. Why Matt Bomer is hot is a simple enough question (he looks like a naughty Ken Doll who has more than plastic beneath his trunks), but things get more nuanced when you consider why leagues of real human beings with eyes find Benedict Cumberbatch attractive or why women regularly throw their panties at Post Malone.
To help you through the haunted, endless maze of human sexuality, Popdust has broken down all the types of hot a man can be. Chances are, every man you’ve ever been attracted to falls into one of these categories.
“Want to Build a Life With Him” Hot
Example: Paul Mescal
This is the kind of guy you want to take home to your mother. Sure, the sex is only okay, but what does that matter when you wake up every morning to homemade pancakes? This isn’t the type of guy you fantasize about f**king on the kitchen floor, this is the kind of guy whose eyes you picture filling with tears when you buy your first home together. He’s not exactly a daddy, but he would make a great literal daddy.
“Church Boy” Hot
Example: Tom Holland
Something about this guy’s small-town haircut and innocent, sunny smile makes you want to corrupt the sh*t out of him. He always looks a little shocked when you make a dirty joke, but you just know that with some intervention from the devil (you) you’d have that perfectly gelled hair mussed in no time. But also…some small part of you wants to let him make you a better person??? A very small part. Mostly, you just want to ruin his life.
“Rearrange My Guts” Hot
Example: Jason Momoa
You don’t want this guy to take you to a nice dinner at a trendy restaurant—you want him to eat take-out off your ass and throw you around like a rag doll. Sure, he probably has thoughts in his head and a personality and interests and blah blah blah LOOK AT THOSE ARMS. This is the kind of guy you want to spend 72 hours in bed with every 4-6 months but otherwise never see. This is the kind of guy you agree to go camping with despite hating the outdoors because you just love watching him pitch a tent (yes, that was a double entendre, you filthy minx).
“Got Your Teenage Sister Pregnant, but You Kind of Get It” Hot
Example: LaKeith Stanfield
Okay, not literally!!! (maybe literally). But you know that kind of smarmy guy who works at the gas station and says borderline-inappropriate things to you every time you see him? But for some reason, you just can’t summon feminist rage about it and instead sorta giggle and blush and wonder what his tobacco-stained fingers would feel like pulling your hair? Yeah, that guy. He’s a good-for-nothing, uneducated, creepy, grungy, loser…and that kind of works for you.
“You Knew He Would Be Weird in Bed” Hot
Example: Evan Mock
So he’s super hot in all the traditional ways, from facial structure to swagger, but there’s also something a little…extra. Something about him that’s…unhinged. Some kind of mad twinkle in his eye that speaks of unexplored multitudes. In most cases, those multitudes are just daddy issues and a preference for foot stuff, but the joy is in the journey of finding out.
“Burnout” Hot
Example: Jeremy Allen White
He’s not a bad-looking guy. Just a little limp-looking, with features that start seeming weird if you stare too long. But there’s something about him. The tattoos? The nicotine addiction? The greasy hair? Somehow, it’s working.
“In Context” Hot (e.g. like a high school women’s lacrosse coach)
Example: Nathan Fielder
In most situations, this guy isn’t going to turn many heads. But put him on a public school field with 23 hormone-ridden 16-year-olds running laps, and you’ve got yourself an absolute sex magnet. Alternatively, put him in a political race populated by old, saggy, white people, and suddenly his ability to tuck in his shirt over his gut seems exceptional.
“Ugly” Hot
Example: Pete Davidson
This is a broad but important category that this reputable publication has dwelled on seriously for quite some time. An ugly hot guy has an appearance that falls outside the boundaries of conventional attractiveness. Maybe he has a weird horse face or limbs that flail like a carwash’s inflatable man in heavy wind (think Pete Davidson). But if you take all of his objectively unattractive features and put them together, somehow, it just works.
“Ascot/Take Me on a Yacht” Hot
Example: Henry Golding
This is better than just being rich—it’s looking rich. This is ascot hot. This guy’s actual God-given looks are largely irrelevant because money made him his own God. He has the money and time to ensure his hair, skin, and clothes are flawless in a “Who me? I just rolled out of bed like this…” kind of way. If this is your type, it’s fine, we get it.
“Ready To Risk It All” Hot
Example: Michael B Jordan
This is the kind of hot you leave your husband for. This is the kind of hot you leave your wife for. This is the kind of hot you sell your house for. This is the kind of hot you pretend to like his DJ set for. Is the sex good? It literally doesn’t matter, just look at him.
“Party Boy” Hot
Example: Machine Gun Kelly
Does he have a substance abuse problem? Probably. Is he reliable? Not at all. Do any of his values align with yours? Absolutely not. Is he a great f**king time? Oh yeah. This guy probably has one of those annoyingly hot side smiles, maybe a kind of hard-to-understand accent, and the sex is probably kind of like being mauled by a drunk bear but in a good way. He probably has an earring he doesn’t remember getting but kind of pulls it off. It goes without saying that your Dad hates him.
“Baby” Hot
Example: Timothée Chalamet
This is a complicated category. He makes your uterus ache, but you can’t tell if that’s sexual arousal or your biological clock ticking. You can’t decide if you want to take a bath with him or give him a bath. Either way, you definitely wanna smooch that sweet lil face.
“Retro” Hot
Example: Aaron Taylor Johnson
Something about him screams “traditional values.” Not in a scary, baby-Don’t Worry Darling way. More in a Ready For Marriage kind of way. And honestly … if he wanted a trad-wife, I’d be a trad-wife.
“Artist/Vegan” Hot
Example: Jaden Smith
He is comfortable with his feminine side, and he wants you to know it. You wanna argue with him about the fallacy of placing the responsibility for climate change on the shoulders of individuals when a handful of corporations are ultimately responsible—but he has those puppy dog eyes, so you just give in and agree to give up plastic straws. His slam poetry competitions are cringe-worthy, but he just looks so good in ripped Levi’s and a beanie.
“Wouldn’t Be Surprised if He Turned Out to Be a Serial Killer” Hot
Example: Robert Pattinson
He speaks, acts, and behaves like a robot who has heard about the behavior of human beings but never actually seen it. There’s something magnetic about his strangeness, and suddenly the legacy of Ted Bundy makes sense to you. Everything about him is subtly unsettling, but personality disorders aside….he could get it.
“Prettier Than You” Hot
Example: Josh Heuston
He paints his nails, has a skincare routine, and posts thirst traps on Instagram. He doesn’t have a job, but he has thousands of followers on TikTok so he’s working on monetizing social media. Which makes all his hair products a business expense, I guess? Whatever, it’s worth it when he takes his shirt off.
“Stoner” Hot
Example: Donald Glover
He only chuckles at your jokes but cries laughing when his gamer buddy says something about farts. He always needs a haircut, has stains on his shirt, and probably smells faintly of Doritos. Still, something about his anti-establishment, “being handsome is mainstream” attitude does it for you.
“Garbage” Hot
Example: Jack Harlow
This one comes with a lot of justified self-loathing. Just do better.
In the spirit of “action-adventure rom-coms” that have lately come back into favor, Shotgun Wedding continues the tradition of this niche with the “twist” of a destination wedding serving as the catalyst for the so-called adventure. As it turns out, the groom, Tom (Josh Duhamel), is the one truly responsible for bringing everyone to the Philippines (Mahal Island Resort, to be specific) to celebrate this glorious day, including his bride, Darcy (Jennifer Lopez, who, let’s be honest, really doesn’t look like a Darcy). Slightly less enthusiastic about this large gathering and the associated fanfare, she does her best to navigate through the rehearsal dinner’s murky waters, filled with her divorced parents’ contentious relationship and the well-meaning overbearingness of Tom’s mother, Carol (Jennifer Coolidge, mildly less annoying than usual in this role).
For the first several minutes of this rehearsal dinner, Darcy is forced to face the jackals (mainly her own mother, Renata [Sônia Braga]) alone, for Tom is off trying to add to the overall “perfectness” of the wedding by decorating a small boat he’s secreted away by the dock for himself and Darcy after the ceremony. It is within these first three minutes that the viewer is drilled with the notion that pirates are potentially lurking at every corner, and that all security personnel must “beware.” This is how Tom ends up being attacked by the security guard on duty that night as he explains about the boat (after falling into the water), “I wanna be romantic, but not too corny.” The guard replies, “There’s a really fine line between the two.” Shotgun Wedding does its best to toe it, and, for the most part, actually succeeds. Even with the lingering taint of knowing that Armie Hammer was slated to play the part of Tom—after Ryan Reynolds, who still co-produced the project, dropped out. And, talking of men who have co-starred with Sandra Bullock, it is the latter actress who has truly been the impetus for bringing back the action-adventure rom-com via The Lost City in early 2022—and yes, that movie slaps far harder than Shotgun Wedding could ever hope to, but “for a J. Lo movie” (to use a backhanded compliment), it’s leaps and bounds above fare like Second Act and Marry Me. Which, sure, might not be saying much—but it does mean something when referring to the usual stink bombs of Lopez’s ever-burgeoning filmography.
Even Coolidge, meant to be some sort of “foolproof” assurance of spun comedy gold now that she’s had her “comeback,” does little to contribute to the expected “laughs” written into Mark Hammer’s (whose previous writing credit is Two Night Stand and who has no known relation to Armie) script. But the clearly intended “laugh-out-loud” moments are more cringe than comedy—namely, when the wedding guests all join in an a capella rendition of Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be” (the song that just won’t die) or, you know, a certain wedding guest is obliterated, guts and all, into the rotor blade of a helicopter. Ha ha…ha.
Thus, in truth, this action-adventure rom-com has more of the former category than the latter, even if J. Lo stripping down to her skivvies and engaging in some foreplay involving reaching for a high shelf is meant to add to some of the “romance” genre. Followed by Coolidge as Carol interrupting the scene with her “comedic timing” as she asks Darcy if her body is the result of genetics or pilates. Anyone could tell her it’s: being a celebrity who uses their time and money correctly. Apparently, being a lawyer can help with fitness, too. This being among the few “background details” we get about Darcy, in addition to Tom being a former baseball player for the junior leagues before being dropped by the team.
Indeed, for so few known details about the characters’ lives beyond this wedding, it’s a wonder the viewer can get that invested at all. The lack of connection to the characters is spurred by a general blasé tone toward carnage. And sure, within the universe of this story, that might technically pass, but because of the overall “canned” nature of the characters, it adds to a certain cartoonishness, e.g. when murder (as Tom calls it) is written off quickly as “self-defense.” Which isn’t a false assessment, and yet, for such “fragile” and “moral” people, it seems only too easy for both Tom and Darcy to move on from the horror of killing not just four pirates, but also Darcy’s ex, Sean (Lenny Kravitz, an inexplicable casting choice that one supposes was meant to be “comedic”—along with Cheech Martin as Lopez’s movie daddy).
While Kravitz’s appearance might “dazzle” some, the real breakout star of the movie, to be sure, is J. Lo’s ever-evolving wedding dress, which is constantly being altered to suit the dynamic needs of a day spent both on the run from and battling pirates. Like Loretta Sage’s (Bullock) fuchsia sequined getup (a “onesie,” as Loretta calls it) in The Lost City, the dress becomes one of the most (read: the only) iconic things about the movie. Not, to Lopez’s dismay, her attempt at “tapping into my inner Lucille Ball-type comedy,” as she phrased it on The Today Show. But even “Lucille Ball comedy,” for as zany and wacky as it was, still had some more grounding in reality than Shotgun Wedding cares to. Complete with an ending that opts to ignore any sense of PTSD the guests might (and should) be suffering from, including the bride herself, betrayed so egregiously by someone she once let inside of her on the regular.
But “realism” and “making sense” have never been the marks of a J. Lo rom-com—so adding the genre of action-adventure into the mix makes such theoretical hallmarks of storytelling even less feasible. This being emphasized by The Bangles’ “Walk Like An Egyptian” chosen as the karaoke song everyone sings along to as the credits roll. For fuck’s sake, at least choose something more relevant, like Sex Pistols’ “Friggin’ in the Riggin,” Gorillaz’s “Glitter Freeze” or Caroline Polachek’s “Welcome to My Island.” Hell, even Nina Simone’s “Pirate Jenny.” Alas, these songs are too “appropriate” for a movie that becomes increasingly over the top in an eye rolling (as opposed to comedic) way as it wears on. For, if one is going to be over the top, the payoff should be the laugh-a-minute result of The Lost City.
Continuing the tradition of wedding-themed rom-coms, Jennifer Lopez‘s latest love story, “Shotgun Wedding,” could have also been named “28 Dresses.”
In the movie — streaming on Prime Video on Friday, Jan. 27 — the actor-producer plays Darcy, who’s about to marry baseball player Tom (Josh Duhamel). Tom’s intensely committed to planning the perfect wedding, down to the DIY pineapple centerpieces. The guest list for the island wedding in the Philippines includes future mother-in-law Carol (Jennifer Coolidge) and ex-boyfriend Sean (Lenny Kravitz), who neglected to RSVP. Then, there are the additional uninvited guests: armed pirates who interrupt the ceremony and take friends and family hostage. Along with Tom, Darcy must save their big day, all while still wearing her wedding gown, which undergoes action-packed carnage of its own.
Prepping during early pandemic, costume designer Mitchell Travers — who previously outfitted Lopez in gravity-defying, late-aughts-era sparkle in “Hustlers” — took on a multitude of challenges.
“At the time, a lot of the world was not really up and running. Getting Jen in a wedding dress takes a moment — even if the world is up and running,” he says of Covid-related supply chain and production obstacles.
While taking a deep dive through bridal trends (including Fashionista’s roundups!), Travers found himself taken by an image of a gown by Galia Lahav. He reached out to the Israeli luxury bridal brand, and the rounds of daily international meetings commenced.
“It couldn’t just be a simple little wedding dress,” says Travers. “It really needed to go through an entire film’s worth of action and adventure.”

Working off the script, Travers meticulously outlined and then cross-referenced a “chronological list” and the shooting schedule to break down how Darcy’s gown would… well, break down, and into how many iterations.
“When does she lose the train? Are the sleeves up at this point? Has she cut off the overskirt?” says Travers, who tapped into his experience assisting Deborah L. Scott on 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” “It was really a full red yarn chart thing.”
After determining that 28 styles of the slowly (but fashionably) deconstructing gown were needed, Travers broke the news to the Galia Lahav team, headed by creative director Sharon Sever.
“I almost had to time out when I was going to tell Galia that the dress gets shredded, because you want to respect the art that they produce,” he says. Sever and co. immediately jumped on the concept to custom-build all versions of the gown, which were handmade in the Tel Aviv-based atelier.
“For a lot of people, when you say, ‘We’re gonna do this and then destroy it,’ there would be some pearls clutched. But they totally embraced it,” Travers says. “They totally got the power of storytelling in a movie.” The Galia Lahav team also kept a sense of humor around the backstory of Darcy’s ultra-voluminous wedding day gown: She borrowed it from Carol — Milford, Michigan’s top realtor.
“Something doesn’t feel right,” says Darcy, exasperatingly telling Tom she never wanted a big wedding or “a princess dress.”
“This dress is just wonderful. I wore it for my wedding. [Sister-in-law] Jeannie wore it for hers,” purrs Carol, in that trademark Jennifer Coolidge-way.
Darcy struggles with the intricate corset, billowing bishop sleeves, layered silk tulle over-skirt, cinched satin belt and elaborate draping, accented with delicate little fabric-covered buttons.

“It’s one of those movie moments where you have to kind of hit all the right notes in the same garment,” says Travers about walking the balance of a resplendent J. Lo-worthy bridal moment and the humor of the film. “In conversation with Jen, she was like, ‘I just really need to be overwhelmed by it.” So, Travers and the Galia Lahav team “really, really padded out the underskirts” and multiplied the brand’s signature puff sleeves by about three-fold.

Travers opted for a “champagne blush color,” because Lopez always looks radiant in that hue. But also, “it was a really great canvas [for] the mud, dirt, blood and the sweat.”
Always a team player, Lopez even tried to make her own contributions in the ravaging of the gown. “We would be dirtying her up, and she’d be grabbing the dirt to try to get herself further,” says Travers, with a laugh. “I’m like, ‘No! The continuity. You can’t put it there.’ But she’s like, ‘Give it to me.’”
While Darcy spends the majority of the film in various stages of her borrowed wedding dress, she does offer a peek into her personal style at the rehearsal cocktail that opens the film. She greets her bickering family and future in-laws in a décolletage-baring marigold Carolina Herrera mini dress, featuring a sculpturally draped train (above) — “so, we can tell that she likes a strapless silhouette,” says Travers. “We can tell that she likes some leg, a little drama. We set up her character there.”

He also created a through-line between Carol’s old wedding dress and her custom blue floral mother-of-the-groom gown, with the latter’s comedic-chic oversized ruffle flounce and extra-floppy wide-brim hat. (“We wanted to make it feel like Carol’s a woman who likes some scale,” says Travers. “She’s always chosen these grand pieces.”)
Adding to the wedding dress’s origin story, Travers thought about what edits might have been made when the gown changed hands: “When it was Carol’s dress, it would have been worn up at the shoulders, and the sleeves would have started higher. But in an effort to do the right thing, she’s tried to make it Darcy’s by dropping it off-the-shoulder. You get more of a soft lantern sleeve, versus these big ’90s wedding sleeves.”
Carol (Jennifer Coolidge) wears a custom-designed dress made out of water-friendly neoprene.

But in a climactic moment to take on the perpetrators, Darcy quickly transforms the at-that-point-one-sleeve gown into a more functional halter-topped look (below.)
“That dress, it’s growing on me,” says Tom in that moment, taking a break from fighting pirates to admire Darcy’s handiwork.
“I wanted something less traditional,” she quips back.

The jagged, asymmetrical skirt silhouette — covered in tiers of delicate ruffles — also allows for a more nimble escape from gun-toting pirates.
“I was in some tiny bridal shop and saw a tiered tulle under-structure. I was like, ‘Oh, that is the finale [look!]” says Travers. “We throw combat boots on like that, she’s coming to save the day.”
For practicality (and a sporty, modern-yet-romantic element that may start some non-traditional bridal trends), Travers worked with undergarment and swimwear brand Marco Marco to custom-make lace-trimmed tap pants for Lopez to wear under the gown.
“I slid a three-and-a-half-inch heel into her combat boots,” he says. “You would never know. Like, come on, she’s not running in flats. She’s J. Lo.”
‘Shotgun Wedding’ premieres on Prime Video on Friday, Jan. 27.
