Flying Alarm Clock for $18: The idea behind this alarm is funny—when the alarm goes off, a propeller ejects from the top and the sleeper is forced to get up, find the propeller, and place it back on the top to get the alarm to stop beeping. However, during the week I used it, the alarm did not stop beeping when the propeller was placed back on the top, when the snooze button was pressed, or when the alarm button was switched off. The only way to get it to stop was to find a screwdriver and take out one of the five required AA batteries (not included). By the end of the week, I had my screwdriver handy in the mornings. At least it kept me up, but not for the right reasons.
Alarm Clock App (In-App Purchases): This is a puzzle-style alarm app similar to the Alarmy app, but it has fewer features and is buggier. The alarm lets you hit snooze three times before it forces you to actually complete a task, which wasn’t helpful for a chronic snoozer like me. The biggest issue, though, was that the alarm didn’t sound when my phone was in vibrate or silent mode. For this reason, I had to have a backup alarm throughout the majority of the week I tested. When I did remember to turn on the ringer, the app glitched almost every morning and either froze or shut down the app entirely.
EC Vision Lock N’ Load Gun Alarm Clock for $28: This is another gimmicky clock meant to be a fun, interactive alarm. You set it up across the room, the alarm sounds off, and a target springs up—the sleeper must then shoot the target with a toy gun to activate the snooze feature. However, shooting the alarm just controls the snooze; to turn off the alarm, the sleeper has to press an actual button on the alarm clock—making the whole shooting part ultimately unnecessary to the clock’s functionality. Even by placing the alarm on the other side of the room and using the aiming and shooting element, this clock didn’t really force me out of bed as effectively as some of the others on this list.
Which Extreme Alarm Is for You?
Well, that all depends on your problem with getting out of bed.
If you are a chronic snooze-pusher, opt for alarms that physically make you get out of bed. Many types incorporate movement to get your blood pumping and shake off some of that sleepy grogginess—like Clocky, the alarm on wheels, or an alarm clock that requires you to shoot a target to turn it off.
If you are hard of hearing, some of these alarms have adjustable pitch and volume, which are useful for hearing loss in certain ranges. Some of these alarms also have a vibration pad, which can be inserted between the mattress and box spring or under the top sheet, that wakes the sleeper via vibrational movement. There’s even a wrist clock that shocks the sleeper, which can be helpful for those sleeping with partners who don’t want to be disturbed by noises.
Organic bedding brand Coyuchi recently launched its own organic mattress, combining cotton, wool, and Dunlop latex atop individually wrapped coils. While Coyuchi’s linen sheets are excellent, I was a little nervous to try the company’s first mattress effort. Bedding is not a mattress, after all, and expertise does not always transfer across endeavors. In this case, though, it did. Coyuchi’s organic Natural REM Mattress is wonderfully firm without being too firm and perfect for those of us who lack a sleeping style and tend to sleep every which way—side, back, stomach. I was never uncomfortable.
The design starts with encased coils on a wool pad and then, like a Midwestern dip, layers in smaller coils, latex, and then wool, and tops it off with an organic cotton cover. There’s surprisingly good edge support considering the distance between the coils and the top, and the mattress provides good motion isolation as well. Coyuchi says the Natural REM can be used with or without a box spring. I tested it for a few months on a box spring and then spent a week with it just on the floor and did not notice a difference. At 11 inches deep, there’s room for a topper, though I did not feel the need.
The cotton and wool layers are GOTS-certified organic, while the Dunlop latex carries the GOLS certification. The material is undyed, which is great for anyone bothered by industrial dyes. As with most of these organic options, the Coyuchi is made without chemicals, foam, or glues. Coyuchi’s Natural REM organic mattress is made to order in the United States and comes with a 100-night trial, which means you can get a full refund if it doesn’t work for you. —Scott Gilbertson
Coyuchi Natural REM ranges from $1,400 for a twin to $2,400 for a California king.

Online furniture stores have completely changed how we shop for our homes – battling with tape measures under fluorescent showroom lighting has been replaced by hours of scrolling and daydreaming from the sofa. Whether you’re after a mid-century dining table, a sculptural accent chair, or a chic storage solution for all that stuff you swore you’d declutter, the digital world is full of design-led options that make creating your dream space surprisingly effortless.
The beauty of shopping online is the access it gives you – to boutique makers you might never stumble across on the high street, to custom pieces that feel really personal, and to interiors inspiration by the bucketload (hello, Pinterest and Insta). There’s confidence in buying furniture online now, too. Many companies have stepped up their game with generous return policies (think brands like Simba and Emma battling it out to offer the longest sleep trials) and free fabric swatches that make it easy to picture how things will work in your home (think big sofa brands like Swyft or Darlings of Chelsea). Plus, with sustainability and craftsmanship becoming bigger priorities, many of the best online furniture stores are as focused on quality and responsible production as they are on aesthetics.
So, whether you’re refreshing one room or starting from scratch in the new pad you’ve just picked up the keys for, these are the names worth bookmarking. From affordable but design-savvy retailers to high-end collections that feel straight out of an interiors mag, the best online furniture stores prove that good design is more accessible than ever. All that’s left to do? Pop the kettle on, open your laptop, and prepare to fall down one very stylish rabbit hole.

What are the best online furniture stores in the UK?
Soho Home reigns supreme as one of the most high-end furniture stores in this edit. Stocking design-led pieces inspired by the furnishings inside their iconic properties (think: Soho Farmhouse, Babington or Shoreditch House), everything from the brand’s floor lamps to its chaises are dripping in opulence. The best online furniture store if you have a little more to spend, for sure.
Is it better to buy furniture online?
When it comes to shopping for furniture, you have the option to either visit physical stores or browse online, each with its own advantages and drawbacks. Shopping in person allows you to actually see the furniture you’re shopping for, allowing you to gain a better understanding of its quality, materials, and comfort level. However, this method can be time-consuming, and transporting large items home can be challenging. On the other hand, online shopping offers convenience and a wider selection, allowing you to compare prices and styles easily.
When is the best time of year to buy furniture?
In short, it’s worth waiting for Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day to drop. The January sales are another great time to pick up furniture deals, and outside of those, brands like Wayfair and Dunelm run mid-season sales to help you save on big purchases.
What should you consider when shopping for furniture?
When you’re on the hunt for furniture, it’s important to think about a few key things to make sure you end up with pieces that fit your home and lifestyle perfectly. First off, consider how you’ll use the furniture and where it’ll go in your space. Make sure it’s the right size and style to match your existing decor, and take a close look at the materials and construction to ensure durability. Of course, budget matters too, so make sure you check out a range of retailers to find items that strike the right balance between quality and price that works for you.

People take a lot of pride in their bedroom abilities. Saatva takes great pride in crafting luxurious, handmade mattresses. To maintain the good work in both situations, the Saatva Classic features an innerspring construction very conducive to lovemaking. There are actually two coil types at play here: pocketed coils beneath the pillow top, and firmer traditional coils at the base. Pocketed coils are better at responding to the situation above them, as they can provide individualized support that homes in on high-weight areas. Whether that’s your lower back while you’re sleeping, or your hands and knees when you’re more active, pocketed coils are adaptable. Traditional coils are interwoven, so they compress together. While the overall support isn’t as targeted, it still has its merits in terms of durability, edge support, full-body pushback, and airflow, particularly when things get hot and heavy. Together, they create a surface that’s easy to move around on and gives you some bounce to work with, which you’ll appreciate more in the moment as opposed to sinking too much. Use that bounce to your advantage.
Buyers can choose from Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, or Firm. I’d recommend you stick to the firmer options to avoid overt sinking, which can be a buzzkill. You can also select your ideal mattress height, with options of either 11.5 inches or 14.5 inches. The variance in firmness and height also opens up this mattress for all kinds of couples to enjoy, not just for sex but for sleeping as well. Couples with different body types and sleeping positions can find an option that works for both, such as Luxury Firm, which would suit both side sleepers and stomach sleepers. Every Saatva Classic comes with an extra lumbar support layer and quilting, regardless of height or firmness. For added coziness, the Classic features an organic cotton pillow top that gently hugs the body.
The Saatva Classic ranges from $1,399 for a twin mattress to $3,078 for a split California king.
Here are a few other toys that aren’t as great as the picks above but are still worth a try.
Courtesy of Lelo
Lelo Tor 3 for $116: If you love cock rings but would love them even more if they were app-enabled, then meet the Lelo Tor 3. While at first the Tor 3 looks very snug, this ring is extremely flexible, making it a perfect fit for all penises or strap-ons, if that’s how you prefer to use this device, as it’s designed to stimulate the clitoris when paired with a partner who has a vulva. Although you can score a whopping two hours of playtime with Tor 3, it’s paramount that you don’t exceed 30 minutes of restricted blood flow to the penis. And if at any time things start to hurt—not in a good way—remove the ring immediately. The Tor 3 doesn’t have the pinchable arms that the Dame Hug has, so it’s up to the users to be cognizant of time limits and potential side effects.
Unbound Bender for $69: The Unbound Bender isn’t marketed as a couples’ sex toy, but as far as I’m concerned, it absolutely is. The Bender is called that because it bends this way and that, making both external and internal stimulation fun. Similar to the Dame Pom, this isn’t a toy that’s connected to an app, but it allows for couples to experiment with different types of stimulation, from head to toe, either as foreplay or as the main course. With 10 vibration modes and two hours of run time, you and your partner can light some candles, put on your favorite album, and explore each other’s bodies. In addition to being used on all your favorite external erogenous zones, the Bender is also safe for both vaginal and anal play, and its versatility really allows you to get creative in how you choose to use it.
B-Vibe Rimming Plug 2 for $108:Ilana Wexler said, “It’s 2014. Anal is on the menu” in Broad City over a decade ago, so it would be profoundly wrong not to include the remote-controlled b-Vibe Rimming Plug 2. It falls into the couples’ sex toy category thanks to its easy-to-use remote, and whether you’re new to anal stimulation or a seasoned fan, this is a plug that gives you everything you’d want. It’s not too big, and folks with prostates will thoroughly enjoy the internal stimulation, not to mention the rotating beads at the base of the plug to stimulate the anus, adding a sensation that can be enjoyed by anyone who has a butt.

If you want to talk about a star student, valedictorian, and top of the class for latex mattresses, organic stalwart Avocado Green has a streak like no other. The core component of all the company’s beds, the Green Hybrid included, is latex. But Avocado goes so far as to throw down receipts on how organic, natural, and traceable it is–13 certifications (see them all here) is a ton of work to achieve, and Avocado’s piling them up like the “good job” stickers you used to get when acing a test.
WIRED reviewer Scott Gilbertson was in charge of putting the Avocado Green Hybrid to the test, and it scored a 9 out of 10 by the time he was done with it. Dunlop latex is the firmer type of latex (see our FAQs, below, for the different types typically used) and the basis for this bed, along with an organic cotton-and-wool cover and pocketed coils. Scott noticed that although the materials didn’t perform strongly in stopping motion and shaking when his kids jumped in, they did a near-perfect job of keeping him from feeling too warm or unsupported at the edges. An important note from his testing: The base Avocado Green model is the firmest and uses Dunlop latex to achieve this feel. Thus, it is better suited for stomach and back sleepers who often thrive with this level of support. For increased softness and pressure relief, side sleepers or those who prefer a softer feel have the option to choose either a pillow or a box top that uses softer-feeling Talalay latex. However, it does incur an extra charge.
Avocado Green ranges from $1,499 for a twin mattress to $2,899 for a California king.

Pillow Cube Side Cube for $66: This isn’t technically a body pillow, but it’s specifically designed for side sleepers (and I love it), so it’s included in this list. This cuboid pillow is designed for the side sleeper, and aims to help with headaches and back and shoulder pains through its unique shape and soft, yet structured, filling. It has a breathable, soft-and-stretchy quilted side case that’s removable with a zipper, and the AeroPluff foam core is comfy, regulating temperature to keep you sleeping coolly. I can sleep only on my side, and one of the problems I regularly have is a sore neck from the gap between my shoulder and my head. This square, 90-degree-angled pillow perfectly fills that gap and sits at a manageable head pillow size of 24 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 5 inches deep. The breathable cover and soft density even helped with ear pressure.
Leacho Snoogle for $50: Though out of stock at the moment, this versatile body pillow is marketed for pregnant people because of its versatility and belly, hip, and knee support. Due to its unique shape, it can be contorted into many figures. With a removable cover made of a polyester/cotton blend and a polyester filling, this pillow is a lot more breathable than similar large body pillows on the list. Because of its unique shape for many positions, the pillow isn’t overstuffed, and I found that the fill tended to sink to the lower foot portion of the pillow when sleeping on it. Overall, this pillow is breathable and extremely customizable in shape, although I would’ve preferred something with a little more filling.
White Noise Memory Foam Body Pillow With Hypoallergenic Zippered Protector for $50: I absolutely love the fill of this 50 x 14-inch pillow—the shredded foam is the perfect mix of structure and softness. If it were wider, 20 or so inches rather than 14 inches, this pillow would be perfect. But because I’m a side-only sleeper, I like to hold the body pillow and wrap my arms and legs around it. Since it is so narrow, my knees knock together on the other side. I may be able to overlook the flaw of its narrowness because the pillow has a super-comfy fill, but I wouldn’t recommend it for bigger people with longer limbs.
Eli & Elm Memory Foam Body Pillow for $130: In my home, we call this one “the 7 pillow” because … well, take a guess. This long, L/7-shaped pillow is marketed as a pregnancy pillow, but it’s great for anyone who sleeps on their side. The short section fits neatly under your head, while the long end can reach down to fit between your legs. It comes with its own custom pillow case, which is great, because it’s not like you’ll have a ton of spares in this shape in your linen closet. —Eric Ravenscraft
Eli & Elm Side Sleeper for $116: The Eli & Elm Side Sleeper pillow is one of the firmest pillows right out of the box of any we’ve tested. You can remove some of the excess fill if you want to reduce that firmness, but if you’re the type of person who likes feeling like they’re sleeping on a very soft rock, this is the pillow for you. It’s not quite big enough for multiple people to cuddle up with, like our Honeydew pick, but for a single person, it’s a great option. —Eric Ravenscraft
Bearaby Cuddler for $229: Bearaby is best known for its weighted blankets, eye masks, and stuffed animals, but it makes other sleep products like heated pads, throw blankets, and the body pillow I tested, the Cuddler. At 75 inches long and 8 inches in diameter, with a filling of plant-based Melofoam, an all-natural foam made from rubber-tree sap, it’s unlike any other pillow fill I’ve slept on. It’s heavier than a stuffed pillow but lighter than memory foam and has a rubbery, bouncy quality. Its springy fill, skinny body, and extraordinary length made it fit awkwardly on the bed, but its bouncy quality and ability to conform into many shapes may make this an attractive pick for some side sleepers.

Alwyn Home Butcher Fiber Plush Pillow for $56: This 90 x 19-inch pillow disappoints. It’s egregiously long, which could be helpful for people who are taller or those who like more all-around body support. However, it just doesn’t have enough stuffing to fill 90 inches. The batting inside feels like typical fluffy batting found in homemade pillows, but it bunches throughout the pillow in clumps, leaving gaps where no filling reaches. These gaps often happen where your limbs rest, thus defeating the purpose of having a body pillow for support. The pillow is only about 2 inches deep and didn’t seem to ever spring up after I took it out of the box. I had to shake and knead the fiber to help make it more uniform throughout the inside of the pillow, but it did little to help.
As a side sleeper, you’ll want a pillow that’s long enough to provide support between your arms and pressure points like between the knees. While firmness and softness are a matter of personal preference, you often want a body pillow that strikes the right balance, to provide support without being too heavy or firm for the limbs that rest underneath the pillow. If you’re just looking for a pillow to hug while you sleep, something lighter and softer is best. But if you have joint or spinal pain, something a bit more firm with more support is best. You’ll also want to think about which pillow shape will support which part of your body best, depending on your needs. I’m a strict side sleeper, but I toss and turn between both sides, so pillows with support on either side were tested too. I also tend to curl into a more fetal position, so I wanted something that had enough width to fully wrap my legs and arms around.
While many head pillows and mattresses favor memory foam, depending on the foam’s denseness, it can feel too heavy for a side sleeper whose limbs go underneath the pillow. Polyester or other synthetic filling is often the most plush and malleable but may not provide enough support. Many have a mixture of both or shredded memory foam, which can provide structure while still being soft enough to sink into. This depends on personal preference and need, but fill type is something to be aware of when looking for the perfect side-sleeper body pillow.
A standard body pillow that’s long enough to provide full-length support for the body is ideal, giving enough room to stretch out or cuddle in various positions. Body pillows in U or C shapes can provide more overall support and are ideal for pregnant people or those with back or leg issues, but can often make the sleeper run hot because of all of the surrounding material. But ultimately, the preferred shape is largely dependent on what parts of the body you want most supported in the side-sleeping position.
I tested (slept with) each of the pillows for at least a week while sleeping, lounging, and sitting to see how the fill changed and moved over time. I contorted them in many shapes, and measured how supported I felt in different positions. I removed and added fill if I was able, and removed and washed covers to see how they were affected by cleaning and tested the differences with or without a cover.
This part of the toy is flat and smooth, so much so that you can’t feel it, and when it’s lined up with the magnet on the inside, the two magnets immediately lunge for each other. The magnetic pull is so strong that even with the Ferri’s cardboard packaging between the two magnets, they came together securely. In other words, I’m not just talking about a comfortable fit physically, but there’s a mental comfort in not having to worry about the Ferri going anywhere it isn’t supposed to; it’s absolutely locked in place.
A Great Couples Toy
Courtesy of Lovense
Although the Ferri requires that at least one partner has a vulva, if that’s your relationship situation, then it makes for a fun way to explore different ways to enjoy pleasure. Thanks to the Lovense app, the Ferri can be controlled across the bedroom, from the other side of a club, or even an ocean away.
The app takes a bit of getting used to because it offers so many vibration modes. Once you master it, controlling the toy is fairly easy. But at this point, the issue becomes what patterns and intensities the person with the vulva in the equation likes best, which makes for a fun afternoon of trial and error for those with patience. For impatient folks, the Lovense app offers recommended and popular patterns. That way, you can get down to business.
The Ferri takes about an hour to charge and allows for three to four hours of playtime, depending on how dialed up you have the power levels. It’s 100 percent waterproof, should you want to wear it in your bathing suit, and is extremely quiet for those who like to take their sex games into public spaces. The Ferri can also be synced to music in case you ever wanted to see what the bass of your favorite song felt like as clitoral and vulval vibrations.
While the Lovense Ferri comes with a magnetic proprietary charging cable, which can be problematic if you lose it, this particular cable is actually compatible with 25 of Lovense’s products, including the Gemini nipple clamps and the Osci 3 rabbit vibrator. So if you already have a Lovense product, you might be OK on the charging front. If not, backup cables are available on the site. Now go forth and have a party in your pants.
When Natalie Babcock and Samuel Gibson found a listing for a sunny apartment in Beachwood Canyon five years ago, they immediately fell for the two bedroom’s charming built-in bookshelves, faux fireplace, hardwood floors and formal dining room. Practical amenities such as an in-unit laundry and a garage, which are often elusive in Los Angeles rentals, didn’t hurt.
In this series, we spotlight L.A. rentals with style. From perfect gallery walls to temporary decor hacks, these renters get creative, even in small spaces. And Angelenos need the inspiration: Most are renters.
Today, however, the couple says they are most impressed by the sense of belonging they have found in the community just outside their 1928 Spanish fourplex. Here, where tourists and brides in wedding gowns often pose for photographs in the middle of the street in an effort to capture the Hollywood sign in the background, Babcock and Gibson have become part of a larger family. “Everyone knows our dogs’ names,” says Babcock, a 35-year-old educator working in the adolescent mental health field. “There is a true community vibe in this neighborhood.”
Adds Gibson, a 38-year-old screenwriter and Spanish professor and tutor from London: “I’ve never lived in a place that felt like a neighborhood. We’re in a message group with our neighbors. Sometimes our dog walks take forever because we stop every few minutes to say hello to someone.”
The couple was living in a charming apartment in Los Feliz when Gibson had to return to England to care for his mother, who had pancreatic cancer. Compounding their distress, Babcock’s father suffered a stroke, and Babcock moved in with her parents to help her sister, Eve, care for their father.
“It was the worst year of our lives,” Babcock recalls of that period. “Sam’s mother died, and my father had a catastrophic stroke.”
Their Los Feliz apartment was filled with bad memories, and they were excited by the prospect of creating happier memories in a new apartment.
Gibson’s office is decorated with artworks by local artists including his sister and one found on the street.
After scouring countless rentals online, the couple found a listing for the Hollywood apartment on Zillow, only to encounter what they now describe as “a feeding frenzy” when they arrived at the open house. The apartment, they say, was priced too low at $2,995 compared with similar units, and they were faced with fierce competition.
So they decided to do what many people do when trying to persuade sellers to choose them to buy their house. They wrote a letter about themselves, included photos and sent it to their potential new landlord.
“Eve and I were in a panic because the apartment was so beautiful and we really wanted to live there,” says Babcock. “The three of us were an unconventional group, though, and we hoped they might choose us.”
The couple enjoys having dinner parties in their dining room, which has a mix of chairs and benches.
When they moved into the apartment in February 2020, they were thrilled, not realizing they would end up isolating there together during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The apartment was a welcome reset,” Babcock says, “It gave us plenty of time to nest and decorate.”
A year later, Eve moved out, and Gibson converted her bedroom into an art-filled office that now doubles as a guest room when family and friends visit. The key to a comfortable — and flexible — guest bed, they say, is a durable mattress topper from IKEA, which they store in the garage and carry into the apartment when they have overnight guests. “Blow-up mattresses always deflate,” Babcock says of their choice. “This is a better option.”
The couple’s taste is vibrant, and the colorful interiors reflect their sense of fun and love of design. They painted one wall in Samuel’s office a dramatic Kelly green, which makes the white-trimmed windows and his extensive art collection pop. Behind their bed in their bedroom, they painted an accent wall a charcoal hue, which gives the bedroom a peaceful feel.
Pictures of family and friends decorate the refrigerator.
Decorative tiles and sunshine illuminate the kitchen.
“Paint is your friend,” Babcock says. “Be bold in your color choices, and when it comes to DIY and landlords, ask for forgiveness, not permission.”
A glance around the apartment confirms not just their love of art but also the personal stories behind each piece: framed prints in the kitchen, black-and-white photographs in the dining room, large-scale oil paintings in the living room and hallway, and mixed-media pieces in the office, including works from local artists, EBay, Gibson’s sister and even one found on the street.
Mixed in with the artwork is an abundance of lush houseplants, including Monstera deliciosa, a rubber tree and a ponytail palm, that is thriving thanks to the surplus of bright, indirect light that filters in through the large picture windows overlooking bustling Beachwood Drive.
“Art is one thing that I am always happy to spend money on,” Gibson says.
In the bedroom, a charcoal-colored accent wall, vintage furnishings and art help to create an inviting retreat.
A painting by Alexander Mayet hangs in the hallway.
Last year, Gibson painted the kitchen walls blue and installed peel-and-stick floor tiles from WallPops over the dated yellow linoleum flooring, providing an inexpensive, albeit temporary, update. (One package of a dozen 6.2 x 6.2-inch sheets costs $17.99.)
“It wasn’t the hardest project,” Gibson says, “but you do have to measure each tile to the centimeter because the apartment has moved slightly over the years, presumably from earthquakes.”
Throughout the 1,200-square-foot apartment, the couple has decorated with vintage Midcentury furniture and thrifted furnishings and accessories sourced from Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist.
“There’s something nice about scraping together designs,” says Gibson. “It’s like a puzzle where you have to patch different styles together.”
Peaches lounges on the sofa in the living room.
In the living room, the couple has furnished the space with an L-shaped Bensen sofa, which they purchased at a warehouse sale mentioned on Craigslist, comfortable yellow swivel chairs they picked up from the back of someone’s car in downtown L.A. and a pair of leather loungers they found on Facebook Marketplace.
To accommodate their love of hosting formal dinner parties, they purchased a table that seats eight, which they found on Craigslist. “We found it in a grungy flat in Hollywood,” Gibson says.
Admitting her husband “has become the primary household chef,” Babcock takes the lead when it comes to dinner parties and “goes all out.”
“Sometimes our dog walks take forever because we stop every few minutes to say hello to someone,” says Gibson.
“I grew up around the dining-room table,” says Babcock, a Los Angeles native who was raised in West Los Angeles.
In the corner of their dining room, across from a thrifted wooden bar cart, they installed a stone cigar table inspired by their trip to Casa Luis Barragán in Mexico City. They purchased it from a designer who was living in a loft in downtown Los Angeles.
Ultimately, some of their rental’s decor, such as having washable sofa covers, is influenced by their dogs Chili, whom they rescued as a puppy in 2020, and Peaches, their “foster fail,” whom they adopted in 2023 after a neighbor pulled her from a shelter the day she was scheduled to be euthanized.
“We’ve made great friends here,” says Gibson. “From our apartment, we can walk the dogs in every direction. We can walk to the Hollywood Reservoir in the Hollywood Hills, to the caves in Bronson Canyon, to the Sunset Ranch stables at the top of Beachwood Drive, or to Griffith Park, which is a two-hour loop.”
Chili gives Babcock a kiss in the living room.
Do they ever dream of owning a home like other couples their age? “Yes, of course,” Gibson says. “But I think we would truly never leave this apartment unless we could buy a house with a yard. It’s like London, in that, having a yard is a luxury.”
Babcock agrees, admitting that small things such as an outdoor space for the dogs or a second bathroom would be nice.
But it would be a shame “to buy a house that’s not as nice as this,” Gibson says.
In the meantime, they are happy in their Hollywood Hills home, which reflects their love of art and their deep affection for their sweet-natured four-legged friends and their neighborhood.
“We joke that we will die here,” Babcock adds, laughing.
Jewelry that doubles as a vibrator is nothing new. If we go way back—I’m talking ancient Rome—there’s a good chance someone, somewhere along the line, used a piece of jewelry to rub one out just for the heck of it. After all, the Romans were known to be quite creative when it came to sexual pleasure.
But it wasn’t until the 2014 launch of the Crave Vesper, a necklace that contained a mini vibrator to stimulate all your favorite erogenous zones, that the union of jewelry as vibrators or vibrators as jewelry became a legitimate product. A product, I might add, that everyone wanted in their collection of jewels and vibes.
Now, 10 years after Crave Vesper hit the market, we have Unbound’s take on the concept. This time, it’s a stylish, eye-catching statement ring called Flick. Flick’s launch date is no accident. As the world celebrates the 100th anniversary of the cocktail ring, Unbound wanted to come up with a piece of jewelry that not only pays homage to the iconic cocktail ring but also to the cultural revolution of the 1920s. It was a complicated time for women as they tried to navigate how to harness self-expression authentically against a backdrop that had yet to allow all women to vote. Flick embodies that spirit of boldness and celebration, inviting modern-day adventurers to explore their sensuality in style.
As Intense as It Is Discreet
Unbound is not a brand that’s new to me, which means I already knew I wasn’t simply getting a vibrator in a box with generic-looking instructions. But even for Unbound, the Flick’s packaging went above my expectations: clean lines, a commitment to only two colors—turquoise and pink—to enhance the overall aesthetic, nail art stickers, and a postcard signed by all the people who made Flick happen. It didn’t just look welcoming, it felt right.

Although I knew I needed to wait for a full charge to properly indulge in Flick as a vibrator, as a piece of jewelry there was nothing to wait for. I slipped on the ring and it fit perfectly. This isn’t because Flick is a one-size-fits-all ring but because it has four band sizes that can easily be changed with the included screwdriver.

This adjustable base is from the makers of one of our favorite mattresses you can buy online and one of our favorite mattresses for side sleepers. It runs on electricity to move the hydraulic-like motors below, which raise both the head and foot area of the bed. It comes with a wireless Bluetooth-enabled remote with buttons to adjust the head and foot portion of the bed up and down, a built-in flashlight, and a button to bring the frame down to a flat level.
The Legget & Platt app (available for iOS only) can act as a remote as well—a huge sigh of relief for a generally scatterbrained person like myself who’s prone to losing things. In the app, you name your bed, make the same adjustments, and save your favorite positions so you can easily go back to them. The bed frame is sleek—not bulky at all—and is around 13 inches off the ground, making extra storage space underneath that I didn’t have before. The legs are virtually invisible, although the zero-clearance design allows the base to be used without the legs if using platform bases.
The adjustable frame rises in half-inch increments from 13 to 18 inches from the original base, and the motor is fairly quiet. The base works with mattresses designed to flex, without shifting inside materials or weakening the structure, and is compatible with nearly all Saatva mattresses. For non-Saatva mattresses, check with the manufacturer to ensure it’s compatible with an adjustable base.
Saatva provides a 10-year warranty as well as free in-room delivery and setup, and the men were done in less than 15 minutes, even putting my old mattress back on for me. I often work in my bed and use pillows to prop me up, and this took away the need to be surrounded by a dozen or so of my favorite body pillows. This customizable frame would work great for those with mobility issues or health issues like acid reflux, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, or sciatica (among other things). This bougie bed base isn’t completely necessary for me, but it’s a fun luxury to have. —Molly Higgins
Sex toys and accessories can be a huge benefit to most people’s sex lives, but we don’t talk about them openly enough. That’s a shame, because here at WIRED, we have many thoughts on all the gadgets you can use to spice up your romantic relationships or share your joy with others.

Condoms are great. They’re a relatively inexpensive method of birth control and can greatly lower the risk of sexually transmitted infections. And there’s never been a better selection of materials and quality. If you hate condoms, there’s a decent chance you’re using subpar ones, not using them right, or possibly both. Fortunately, we have tested to find the best condoms and have recommendations for everyone.

How to Pick (and Use) the Right Condom
The best condom is the one you’re going to use regularly and properly. The most well-designed condom isn’t effective if it doesn’t fit you or if you don’t know how to put it on. Likewise, the worst condom you can buy still does more to prevent unplanned pregnancies or sexually transmitted infections when used properly than not using one at all. With that in mind, there are a few things you should consider when buying a condom, even beyond our recommendations here:
What size you need. Condoms generally come in size variations, with average fit condoms targeting the vast majority of penises, but there are often large or “slim” options. A condom that’s too big can slip off, and one that’s too small can increase the risk of breakage. Take some time to try different sizes to make sure you get the right one for your needs. Also keep in mind that length and girth aren’t always correlated. If you have a longer but more slender penis, then how far a condom can stretch can be an important deciding factor.
What allergies you (or your partner) have. Latex allergies affect between 1 and 6 percent of the population, and if you have one, then using a latex condom can cause some serious negative reactions. Alternative materials like lambskin, polyisoprene, and polyurethane can avoid allergy issues while still providing protection.
What you’ll need condoms for. If you want to reduce the risk of transmitting infections like herpes or HIV or of conception of a human life during sex, there’s no simpler method than a condom. However, there are other scenarios to consider. Some people will use condoms during oral sex (partly why we consider odor and taste in our assessment), and it’s also a good idea to use condoms with any sex toys you plan to share with your partner or partners.
When we consider condoms for this guide, we look at a variety of factors including durability, comfort, and ease of use. Some of these factors will vary by person, so you should still try out any condoms you get for yourself to see what works best for you. With that in mind, here are some of the factors we evaluate:
Size variations. Most condom manufacturers offer a few size variations. Where possible, we prefer to feature condoms that provide consistent quality across several size options so you can get a condom that fits you well.
Material. Latex condoms are the most common, but as mentioned above, there are many non-latex options that are better for people with allergies. Some materials like polyurethane can be looser or break more easily, while newer condoms are (finally) starting to incorporate graphene to improve heat conduction and strengthen them against breaking. We note the strengths and weaknesses of different materials while testing.
Do you need lube? Most condoms come lubricated. We took that into account and considered how often we needed to use lube after putting a condom on.
Price. No one wants to think about the per-condom cost when you’re having sex, but if you’re very active, it can start to add up. That said, a cheap condom that breaks is always more expensive than a pricier condom that works, so we look for the best balance.
Taste and odor. Nothing can kill the mood faster than a condom with a weird smell, especially if you plan to use condoms during oral sex. While it’s always going to be a subjective experience, we factor in the whole sensory experience when testing condoms.

But where to start when it comes to finding the best cheap mattress for you? Enter: our exhaustive guide of the best affordable mattresses, from memory foam, pocket-sprung, hybrid and open coil, these are the best cheap mattresses to invest in for a better night’s sleep — and how to choose the right one for you. Settle onto your comfy bed frame, get under your duvet, perch your head on that fluffy pillow and allow us to reveal all.
Our buying guide covers everything from the type of cheap mattresses available – whether pocket-sprung, memory foam, or hybrid – to firmness levels, taking in what’s best for those who suffer from back pain, to mattress size, and advice on how often you should replace your mattress.
Is it OK to buy a cheap mattress?
It’s important to consider that you spend about a third of your life in bed. While it might be tempting to go for a cheaper option, it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons. A cheaper mattress might seem like a good deal upfront, but it could lack the durability, support, and comfort you need for a good night’s sleep. Poor-quality mattresses can lead to discomfort, restless nights, and even long-term health issues like back pain.
However, not all affordable mattresses are bad – far from it! If you’re on a budget, look for mattresses that offer good value — those that use decent materials, have positive customer reviews, and come with a reasonable warranty. You can, in fact, find budget-friendly options with a tantalising price point that provide adequate support and comfort, especially if you’re using it temporarily or for a guest room.
Are expensive mattresses better?
When it comes to mattress buying, the old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ often rings true, but it’s not always that simple. Some of the best hybrid mattresses tend to be made from high-quality materials, such as advanced memory foam, latex, or pocket springs, which can provide better support, durability, and comfort over time. They often come with extra features like cooling technologies, luxurious fabrics, and longer warranties, all of which can enhance your overall sleep experience.
The popular perception of sex machines (thanks mainly to porn) is usually a dildo on the end of a long rod attached to a motor. That visual might be intimidating, but Lovense made it downright cute with the Lovense Mini Sex Machine (8/10, WIRED Recommends). A smaller, compact version of its flagship product, the Mini has a powerful motor in a small package, with easily adjustable legs that allow you to position the device at the best angle.
Most sex machines—including Lovense’s larger flagship sex machine—are large and heavy, and can be cumbersome to set up, but the Mini reduces almost every pain point, including the price. At $399, it’s the least expensive machine you’ll find on the market without sacrificing much power. In my testing, it could reach up to 280 thrusts per minute, though its low weight meant it was a little more likely to slide on smooth surfaces. That trade-off is worth it for the portability though. The thrusting motor was also surprisingly quiet. Someone might still overhear you from the other side of a closed door, but I doubt anyone would hear you in a neighboring apartment. Unless you’re trying to be heard, anyway.
The whole machine comes in a box about the size of a toolbox, with a convenient handle. I highly recommend holding on to this box for storing or transporting the machine, but even if you choose not to, the machine’s parts are small enough to fit inside an Ikea-sized cube cubby, and at 7 pounds, it’s light enough to carry wherever you want.
The Lovense Remote app also adds many features ideal for long-distance couples. You can control the speed and pattern of thrusts from anywhere in the world, and built-in text and voice/video call features let you do it all from one app. You can even create and share a Zoom-style link to let someone take control of your device and set the link to expire after a set duration or a certain number of uses.
