Dozens of students walked out of their Stanford University graduation ceremony as Google CEO Sundar Pichai took to the stage to deliver a keynote address. Video filmed by the BBC shows the students protesting against the company’s controversial work with the US government. A group named Stanford Students for Justice in Palestine encouraged the walkout. This follows other recent campus protests against tech leaders, but those have largely focused on artificial intelligence and concerns about jobs. BBC
Ministers have embarked on a concerted lobbying operation to prevent a backlash from the Trump administration to the under-16s social media ban announced by Keir Starmer. Officials said they had spent weeks trying to reassure senior Trump officials and the US president himself that the restrictions were not specifically aimed at US technology companies. The ban on platforms including X, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok makes the UK one of the first countries in the world to put sweeping limits on social media for children, after Australia did the same earlier this year. The iPhone Fold has been on and off for years, but now the supply chain is suggesting that Apple will announce it as expected in September 2026, yet not actually ship it for several months. There are at last positive signs from Apple that it is preparing an iPhone Fold, but there have also been multiple reports that it is delayed. Now according to Economic Daily News, the CEO of Apple lens supplier Largan Precision has hinted at delays. Apple Insider
Zepp Health, the company behind the Amazfit brand, has made some wise decisions with its push into smartwatches—like getting in early with the hybrid fitness crowd. It remains one of the few smartwatch brands to offer dedicated modes for Hyrox training and racing. Zepp Health’s main draw, though, is offering desirable features for a lot less than the competition. Even as the brand dips a toe into the premium end of the smartwatch market with the Amazfit Cheetah 2 Ultra, its most expensive model yet, it still manages to undercut Garmin, Suunto, and Apple. A new, free watch face provides World Cup 2026 score tracking with real-time match updates, standings, rankings and headlines. Available solely for Wear OS 6 devices, the Facer mobile app lets users pick their favorite national team, and the watch face automatically switches to that country’s official colors and flag. One of the most valuable assets owned by Lancaster University is stored in beer kegs. But it’s not in one of the student bars. In a carefully locked laboratory rows of metal kegs are arranged on shelves and linked together with spindly copper pipework. The containers aren’t loaded with prize beer but rather a gas called helium-3, one of the most expensive materials in the world. A single litre costs roughly $2,000 (£1,500), though the price can fluctuate. In the near future, more people could be looking to build up such a stockpile.
