An “unconfirmed shark incident” has closed the McAbee and San Carlos beaches in Monterey County due to safety concerns Sunday afternoon, according to officials with the city of Monterey.
The closure alert was sent at around 2:15 p.m., and the city says the beaches were closed at approximately 1:30 p.m. as a “precautionary measure due to unconfirmed shark incident.”
