    Kiran Rao’s recently released movie Laapataa Ladies has moved the country from its core. Set in rural India, this comedy-drama is the story of three individuals – Phool Kumari (Nitanshi Goel), Jaya (Pratibha Ranta), and Deepak Kumar (Sparsh Shrivastav). When the lives of these three intertwine, it treats the audience with a warmth that is hard to erase or fade. Twinkle Khanna has now praised the same.

    The former actress and author took to her Instagram stories and shared a reel which was titled, ‘8 movies where women kick patriarchy in the bum’. The video began with naming Laapataa Ladies as the first on the list. Twinkle had captioned her story, ‘Loved Laapataa Ladies’. Kiran Rao reshared the same in her story and shared three emojis – a smile, a white heart, and a flower.

    This movie marked the comeback of Kiran Rao in the director’s seat after almost a decade since she helmed Dhobi Ghat (2011). The movie in reference didn’t really pull any gender or strata of society but in a satirical way uplifted the stories of women. Recently, Kiran spoke about the same to Scroll and shared, “Comedy disarms and charms you, as opposed to talking down to you. Comedy lets you have these conversations in the guise of amusing you.”

    According to her the best way to have a conversation is with empathy and humour. She admitted that the issues she spoke about in the film have already been discussed before but because things didn’t change over time, these conversations must continue.

    She added, “Biplab (writer)’s script was ripe with potential to explore all these different ideas and to build characters that were grey and fun and familiar in one way, but also surprising.” Laapataa Ladies also featured some of the finest actors in supporting roles including Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam among others.

    Bankrolled by Aamir Khan Productions, the Laapataa Ladies’ album has been composed by Ram Sampath and is available to stream on Netflix. It enjoys an IMDb rating of 8.5/10.

    Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna are an unconventional Bollywood couple who have openly spoken about their fun relationship. As the former actress launched her fourth book, Welcome to Paradise, Akkie penned a sweet note for her expressing how proud he is.

    Taking to Instagram, the Mission Mangal actor shared a picture of Twinkle from the book launch event. As she held the labor of her hard work, her book in her hands, she gave a million-dollar smile. Sharing that precious photo, Akshay wrote, “Proud, prouder, proudest. That’s how you always make me feel, whether it’s to take up writing, going back to the university in your 40’s or just defying age and norms every chance you get.     It was last year that actress-turned-author Twinkle Khanna shared that she enrolled herself for a Master’s Degree course in Fiction Writing at the Goldsmiths, University of London. Last month she finally completed her Master’s degree, and her husband and actor Akshay Kumar was immensely proud of her! Now, Twinkle has shared another update about her academic achievement, and joked that her friend Karan Johar cast the wrong people in Student Of The Year! The film starred Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra.

    On Saturday morning, Twinkle Khanna took to her Instagram account to share an update about her academic accomplishments. She wrote that she received an exceptional distinction for her final dissertation, which has also been longlisted for the Pat Kavanagh Prize. She then jokingly added that her friend Karan Johar may have cast the wrong people in Student Of The Year.

    “A big moment, and at first, I was hesitant about sharing it. But it goes to show that age is truly just a number and doesn’t hinder you from achieving your goals. I received an exceptional distinction for my final dissertation, which has now also been longlisted for the Pat Kavanagh Prize by Goldsmiths, University of London. May I add that perhaps my old friend cast the wrong people in ‘Student of the Year.’ :),” read Twinkle Khanna’s caption.

    Twinkle also shared a picture of the letter which mentions that her portfolio has been long-listed for the Pat Kavanagh Prize, which is awarded each year for an outstanding piece of work from the Goldsmiths MA in Creative and Life Writing Programme. Meanwhile, in September, Twinkle Khanna shared a video as she completed her Master’s degree.

    She wrote, “A year of reading, analyzing, figuring out what even eighth graders know these days, how to do citations, dealing with assignments and submissions, and finally, by handing in my dissertation, it all comes to an end.”

    Akshay Kumar shared her post, and expressed how proud he is of his wife. “Mastered it and how! So, so proud of you Tina Now the most important question, when are you coming back home (laughing emojis)”, he wrote.

    Akshay Kumar is one of the most successful actors in Bollywood. In his long career, he has been a part of several acclaimed films in different genres. However, in recent years, he has been criticized for his affinity towards Canada and for having a Canadian passport for a while. The actor has now opened up about this issue.

    In an interview with India Today, Akshay Kumar spoke about his Canadian citizenship row. He said that Twinkle Khanna was not bothered by this entire issue. “Nothing, what is there to have a conversation about?”, he asked while stating that people only attack him ‘for effect’ as they eventually get bored. The Mission Raniganj actor also denied that he was covered by Khanna to give up on his Canadian citizenship. 

    Kumar then added, “Even though I had a Canadian passport, I paid all of my taxes here. I was the highest-paying taxpayer. I had no idea people were so disturbed. Because of the pandemic, it took nearly a year and a half for me to apply for citizenship. Surprisingly, I received it on August 15.”

    Akshay Kumar on promoting BJP via his films

    In the same interview, Kumar also opened up on claims that he promotes the ruling BJP through his films. He said, “Lots of time people say that they promoted Swachh Bharat Mission and I made Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. They had a Mars Mission and I made Mission Mangal. Aisa nahi hai, maine Airlift bhi banai, us waqt Congress ka raaj tha. (It’s not like that when I made Airlift, Congress party was in power). No one talked about that. Even Mission Raniganj is set during Congress’ tenure. It is about the bigness and goodness and what happened. It doesn’t matter who was in power. What matters is what was done for the betterment of the country.”

    Workwise, he was last seen in Mission Raniganj with Parineeti Chopra. Some of his upcoming films include Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Sky Force and Welcome to the Jungle.
