  • ‘Traitors’ Star Colton Underwood Finally Faces His Dark ‘Bachelor’ Past

    [ad_1]

What I would say is, unfortunately, a lot of closeted men end their life by suicide. That easily could have been me. I could have been part of that statistic. Instead, I’m here. I will have a lot of sadness and shame about things that I did in my past, and I will have to live with that for the rest of my life. That is on me 100%.

Even going through this six years later, [The Traitors] was my favorite show I’ve ever done. I didn’t really expect people to draw a line from how I showed up and played Traitors to my past, but that happened. Unfortunately, now I have to relive what happened six years ago with my husband and with my kid, as a father. As somebody who’s changed so much, to see things pop up on social media and to hear certain things—it’s challenging, right? That was such a traumatic time for a lot of people. It’s something I’m gonna always sort of have to own moving forward.

There are some people in the world—and online—that will simply never forgive you. Why do you keep putting yourself on TV?

It’s a great question. “Why do you keep putting yourself through this, dude? Like, go away if you don’t want it.” (Laughs.) I love the entertainment industry. I love representing same sex couples who want to have kids, hosting Daddyhood [Underwood’s podcast]. Having some of my gay friends reach out and be like, “It was so cool to watch you grab Rob’s backpack [on The Traitors]. Like, that representation on television was epic to see from a gay man. Oftentimes we have to shrink ourselves when we enter these masculine spaces, and the fact that you like put your chest out was really cool to see.”

What gets me to show up every single day is the lives that I’ve saved. I say that because I’ve received messages from people across not only our country, but like, because of Netflix, the world, saying, “I didn’t see a path out. I didn’t know what my life was, but watching your story and watching what you went through helped me come out and saved my life.” Those are the ones that I hold onto dearly and that motivate me, that make my skin a little thicker.

But don’t get me wrong, I still have days where I just want to go away. (Laughs.) I wanna live on a farm. I never want to be seen. I texted my team after the reunion—I was like, “I need to go away and get off camera.”

Okay, last question: the banquet outfit. What were you thinking?

    I stand by it.

    Really? Defend it.

Alan Cumming went on Watch What Happens Live and called it “castle couture.” Like, if I have Alan Cumming’s stamp of approval…. By the time of that banquet, the dog pile was already happening on social media. I was an easy target, low-hanging fruit. We did receive a mood board from production of what that night was gonna be. And if you saw the mood board, you’d be like, “Okay, he showed up. He delivered. He is the mood board.” You’re in Scotland playing Traitors, and it is one of the gayest shows on television. I wanna lean into it.

  • How Taylor Frankie Paul, Once a Mormon Wife, Became a ‘Bachelorette’ With a Not-So-Secret Life

    [ad_1]

“I sometimes question, have I made any progress?” Taylor Frankie Paul, who in just three short years leapt from being the leader of #MomTok on Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives to the single lead of ABC’s The Bachelorette, asks Vanity Fair. “We’re humans, we make mistakes; and I feel like I do [make] a lot of different mistakes. That’s what life’s about—it’s trial and error. I’m learning different lessons now in this phase of my life.”

Paul’s latest chapter plays out on season three of the wildly popular Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which reveals that while promoting the show’s second season this spring, Paul privately suffered personal betrayal involving on-again, off-again ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen, father of her one-year-old son, Ever True, and a close family friend. When I reach Paul, she’s in the backseat of a moving vehicle, being whisked from one mystery location to another for her turn on The Bachelorette. Paul can’t technically disclose that she’s not near home, but the palm trees peeking through the car’s back windows confirm: we’re not in Utah anymore.

Since 2022, when Paul, now 31, revealed she was divorcing husband Tate (father of Paul’s daughter Indy and son Ocean, who do not appear on Mormon Wives), after she engaged in “soft swinging” (some heavy petting and emotional affairs, but no “full-on” sex) within their married friend group, she has been filming her life at a near-continuous pace.

Before sending shockwaves through Utah’s #MomTok community, Paul already shared near-daily snippets of her more buttoned-up Mormon life with what eventually grew to 1.8 million Instagram and 5.8 million TikTok followers. When the first season of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives premiered last September, it launched the eight MomTokers, led by the headline-making Paul, to something approaching Housewives-level fame.

“Sorry if I sound like I’m losing my voice, we’re getting over a little cold,” Paul rasps. The “we” another reminder that as the single mother of three who blew up her life, then made a reality show about it, is far from an obvious pick for ABC’s increasingly staid reality dating series—but more on that adventure later.

  • ‘Golden Bachelor’ star Gerry Turner admits marriage to Theresa Nist was a ‘monumental mistake’

“Golden Bachelor” star Gerry Turner believed he’d found “the one” in Theresa Nist — but just three months after saying “I do,” the fairy-tale romance came crashing down.

The 74-year-old Indiana widower made history as the first senior star of ABC’s hit dating series “The Golden Bachelor,” where he met Nist, also a widow. After a whirlwind courtship, they married live on TV in January 2024, only to announce their split that April. Now, Turner is reflecting on his search for a happily ever after in his new memoir, “Golden Years.”

‘GOLDEN BACHELOR’ GERRY TURNER WARNS EX-WIFE THERESA NIST ‘SHOULD BE WORRIED’ ABOUT HIS UPCOMING MEMOIR

“Well, I do admit that it was a monumental mistake, but it’s always easy to have 20/20 hindsight,” Turner told Fox News Digital. “I think that I hurt Theresa, I hurt my family. There were a lot of things that I was so imperfect about. … There was no one flash-bang moment where I realized the marriage was over. It was a gradual march toward the end.”

In his memoir, Turner admits it was hard to accept how quickly things fell apart. He wrote that he’d “rushed into a wedding [he] didn’t believe in” and later found himself “in a very dark place.”

“I was already low from filing for divorce,” wrote Gerry Turner. “It’s hard to admit to yourself that you’ve made such a monumentally bad decision. For months, I could not shake my bitter resentment toward Theresa and the show. Nor could I rid myself of the feeling that I was a disappointment. I didn’t read people nearly as well as I thought I did. I’d rushed into a wedding that I didn’t believe in.” (Eric McCandless/Disney via Getty Images)

Fox News Digital reached out to Nist, 71, for comment. Ahead of the book’s publication, she told Us Weekly: “It makes me very sad to think that he felt empty and trapped. I wish he had said something and just ended it. But at least now I understand why he was so hurtful to me so many times. And I will say this. Those in glass houses should not throw stones. I do wish him all the best.”

Turner, a retired restaurateur, had found love before. He married his high school sweetheart, Toni, in 1974. Their union lasted until Toni died in 2017, six weeks after she retired and fell ill, People magazine reported. Their two daughters later encouraged Turner to join the show. The Midwesterner was hesitant but wondered if he could find love again.

We grew up together and never considered not being together.” (Courtesy of Gerry Turner)

“I was not interested,” Turner recalled to Fox News Digital. “I rebelled at the idea originally. But after a night of sleep, I thought, ‘I’ve got nothing going on here. Hopefully, this’ll work out for me.’ I threw my hat in the ring, and, of course, that began a really long process of getting to the point where I was actually named the first ‘Golden Bachelor.’”

It was easy to fall for Nist among the contestants. They both experienced heartbreak after long, happy marriages. Turner and Nist were also devoted to their children and grandchildren. It seemed like a match made in heaven — at first.

Turner claimed Nist told him that once she found “the right guy,” she would quit her job to focus on a new chapter of adventure with her spouse. But months later, he claimed that Nist wanted to work “another year, maybe a year and a half.” Turner said he respected Nist’s goals but wished he had known sooner.

“I’d try to shorten that time span because I really looked at what I wanted out of that relationship and what she wanted in her job as mutually exclusive,” he explained. “We couldn’t have both of those things. … It really told me that there was no way I was going to be able to enjoy what I wanted to do, which was travel, have some adventures and have fun.”

Disagreements piled up — over where to live, how to spend their money and even the prenup. Turner claimed Nist “didn’t want anything to do with Indiana,” while he viewed her New Jersey roots as a vacation spot, not a home. Days before their wedding, he said his lawyer called frantically about her missing signature on the prenup. People magazine reported that the couple did put a prenup in place ahead of their nuptials.

Despite their efforts to find common ground, once cameras stopped rolling, the cracks deepened.

According to reports, Nist and Turner never lived together. During their brief marriage, they struggled to find a place they could both call home. In the book, Turner wrote that after sharing “a horribly awkward goodbye at the airport,” he realized they had “the warmth of a meeting between distant cousins.” It was not the second act he had envisioned for himself.

“That experience was very painful,” he told Fox News Digital. “There are expectations as you enter a relationship and then enter a marriage. There were things that I really wanted. I wanted those moments of intimacy, regardless of what they were. I wanted to build shared experiences. I wanted to begin to develop this catalog of memories that we would have. And those things didn’t happen. They just weren’t there.”

“It felt empty at times,” he continued. “It felt like we were forcing a relationship and forcing feelings that weren’t coming naturally as they should. I don’t believe it was one huge thing that caused us not to find commonality and not find happiness with each other, but rather dozens of small things that accumulated.”

Turner said he struggled with the truth — that he and Nist just weren’t compatible.

“What made us go forward with the wedding? I think Theresa and I are of the same mind here,” he reflected to Fox News Digital.

“We had a lifetime of commitment to a marital partner. … We knew the importance of commitment. We knew the importance of setting an example for our kids and our grandkids. … We said, ‘We can get to know each other. We can iron out any areas where we don’t know each other well enough. We can make this work.’”

The marriage ended quietly during a private walk in California. They were in town for a function.

“We were trying one last time to see if we could reconcile our differences,” Turner said. “Finally, I just asked, ‘Do you think it’s time to call it quits?’ Her answer, without hesitation, was, ‘Yes, I think it’s time to call it off.’”

“I was of the opinion that the whole story, the whole story, hadn’t been told,” Gerry Turner told Fox News Digital. “And I really wanted to tell that.” (Brian Bowen Smith/ABC via Getty Images)

Turner later revealed he briefly had suicidal thoughts as he faced online criticism over the divorce.

“One night, while I was lying in bed and staring up at the ceiling, it all became too much, and for the briefest of moments, I thought about putting a gun to my head,” he wrote. “Just as quickly, though, I thought of Jenny and Angie. I could never do that to my daughters, but I don’t believe I truly wanted to kill myself. My suicidal thoughts were more an expression of my desire to disappear.”

“That was just a brief thought,” Turner clarified to Fox News Digital.

Months later, in December 2024, Turner revealed he had been diagnosed with a slow-growing bone marrow cancer. In the book, he claimed that Nist didn’t check in like some of the other contestants.

“I didn’t have any great expectations for Theresa or any of the other women when I shared what was going on with me, but to be that insignificant to someone I had married, albeit briefly, was very painful,” he wrote. “We no longer talk; we have no reason to.”

Today, Turner is feeling hopeful about his future — and love. In October, he announced his engagement to his new girlfriend, Lana Sutton. He popped the question 15 months after his divorce was finalized.

“I refer to it as my marathon mentality, that you can endure anything for a certain period of time. And then, once that enduring of pain or unhappiness is over, it’s time to pick yourself up, put your big boy pants on and move on with life. And that’s what it was. I just had to shift gears.”

  • Former ‘Bachelor’ host Chris Harrison finds Hollywood escape in Texas after controversy derailed career

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Chris Harrison has found that “Austin is the new Hollywood” after fleeing Los Angeles.

Harrison moved to Austin, Texas, after permanently stepping away from his role as the host of “The Bachelor” franchise. The reality TV show host left the job in 2021 after defending contestant Rachael Kirkconnell, who came under fire for attending a plantation-themed fraternity party years prior. The move turned out to be a blessing for Harrison, who has felt a sense of relief since leaving the dating show.

“I mean, what I love most about the new chapter is the fact that Austin is the new Hollywood, which means the opportunities are a plenty here,” he told People magazine.

“There is so much tech, music, food, entertainment, theater,” Harrison added. “It’s all happening here. And it reminds me of what Hollywood was built on, which is anything and everything is possible if everybody will just come in with an honest, open heart and mind and just wanna do some fun work together.”

Harrison bought an Austin-area home in 2020 after making his big move. Three years later, he married entertainment reporter Lauren Zima.

“We’ve met so many incredible people from all around the world, from all different industries that just want to collaborate and do great things,” he explained. “And it’s so exciting to be a part of.”

“The energy is truly palpable in this city right now, and it’s just fun to jump in and go with the flow.”

Harrison, who led “The Bachelor” and a handful of spinoff series for 19 years, said he has felt a sense of relief since stepping off the “merry-go-round” that his life was on at the time.

“You know, when you do something every single day for two decades, and it’s so popular around the world, there is a pressure to that, and there’s a spotlight and a microscope that you don’t even realize you’re under until you kinda get off that merry-go-round,” Harrison explained.

“And it was this kind of angst when I first got off, because I mean, ‘Oh, well, I gotta get back on. I gotta go back to work,’ or… And then I kind of took a deep breath, and you dropped your shoulders, and I think, you know, obviously falling in love definitely helped. Moving to Austin definitely helped kind of relieve that and realize, ‘Wow, there’s a whole other world out here to dive into.’ And so it has been a wonderful break and relief.”

  • Are Reality TV Stars Born, or Can They Be Made? Meet the Coaches Scripting Television’s Best Unscripted Drama

    [ad_1]

“Take a breath and go ahead,” Robert Galinsky says, eyeing his student from across a Zoom screen. Dylan, a 45-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona, dressed in a light blue button-down, exhales and begins to explain for the third time why he wants to search for true love on the Netflix reality-dating series Love Is Blind.

Dylan says he has prioritized his real estate career over romance, and dating apps have failed to produce lasting love. But when he talks about building a connection sight unseen, or “from the inside out,” as he puts it, Galinsky stops him. “That’s killer—we want to save that phrase,” he says, advising Dylan to shave his three-minute explanation down to a sound-bite-worthy chunk. After all, reality TV narratives are built by producers and editors (he cleverly refers to them as “preditors”) who favor pithy catchphrases.

Dylan has only made it past the first round of Love Is Blind casting so far, but is already in his third session of 10 with Galinsky, a self-described “presentation coach” who has guided hopeful clients to spots on shows, ranging from Project Runway to Survivor, since 2007. That was when Argentinian dog groomer Jorge Bendersky became the first reality TV hopeful to contact Galinsky, who also coaches TEDx presenters, corporate executives, and students at The Juilliard School (he’s currently advising jazz musicians on how to introduce the historical context of their music before a performance). With Galinsky’s guidance, Bendersky became a top-three finalist on the short-lived Animal Planet series Groomer Has It, and the New York Reality TV School was born.

Like many of those who have sought Galinsky’s services, ranging from Millionaire Matchmaker and Bad Girls Club alum to Chelsea Clinton and 50 Cent, Dylan wants to put his best foot forward onscreen. Think of it as hiring a private tutor before the SAT—with the knowledge that millions of eyeballs will be watching your exam. (The cost of Galinsky’s one-on-one services for reality TV coaching begins at roughly $300 per session, with rates increasing for more specific training once a client is cast on their desired show.) Galinsky, who has a background in acting, treats reality TV as improvisational theater. During the session that Dylan has allowed me to observe (provided I omit his last name), Galinsky quizzes his client on dating deal-breakers, urging him to use the stating of any potential red flags as an opportunity to accentuate his own strengths. What if, as Galinsky posits, a suitor is turned off by someone who is rude to waitstaff, for instance? Dylan immediately discusses his time as a bartender in college. Galinsky smiles approvingly; in one answer, Dylan has both reassured his future wife and revealed a personal detail that will bolster his overall storyline.

“Fakes are the first ones kicked out of the house and voted off the island,” Galinsky says. “So if you know thyself, you’re going to be that much more powerful….You have to have an immense amount of self-awareness to be on these shows, to understand how you’re not going to let someone bulldoze you…so that you become the funniest, most pathetic meme that’s out there.” To get a better sense of how he can best orient a client toward reality TV stardom, Galinsky asks them to provide their origin, scar, and aspiration: where they’re from, what shaped them, and their postshow hopes. “A girl [once] walked in and said, ‘I want to be able to live in the Real World house and drink everybody under the table,’” he recalls. “After two sessions she said, ‘I’m quitting the class because I realize now all I really wanted to do was say “fuck you” to my dad by getting drunk in front of everyone.’”

  • Former DWTS Champion & Bachelor Star Breaks Silence After DUI Arrest

    [ad_1]

Former DWTS champion, Melissa Rycroft, has opened up for the first time since her recent DUI arrest. After a fan expressed their support on one of her social media posts, The Bachelor alumna had a warm response. Following her arrest in September 2025, fans were eager for an update from Rycroft.

Melissa Rycroft says she is ‘struggling’ after getting arrested

The former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader thanked a fan who wished her well during the ongoing tough period in her personal life following her DUI arrest.

The fan shared her heartfelt message on Melissa Rycroft’s Instagram post, emphasizing that mistakes are a part of human life. Stating how they went through a similar situation in the past, they criticized the constant scrutiny faced by the DWTS alumna.

The fan further wrote, “There’s no excuse, but it happened. Don’t ever forget that you are beautiful, loved, and blessed. Be grateful that it wasn’t worse and move forward with grace.”

Rycroft responded with gratitude, saying, “@blaque_and_vegan Thank you. Life really sucks right now and I’m struggling, but I’m trying to march forward….but thank you for the sweet words in what seems like a world of negativity.”

This sweet exchange happened in the comments section of a photo featuring Melissa Rycroft and her daughter. The fan’s support comes amid the news of The Bachelor star’s arrest on September 23, 2025, for driving under the influence in Southlake, Texas.

According to the Southlake Police Department press release, they lodged a report for a single-vehicle accident. On the scene, the officers found “a black Cadillac Escalade that had struck a tree.” After initial sobriety tests on the scene, the officers arrested Rycroft. (via People)

The press release stated, “Prior to the crash, witnesses reportedly observed the Escalade driving erratically.” It concluded with, “No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported. The case remains under investigation.”

The authorities eventually released Melissa Rycroft after she fulfilled a $1,000 bond. Later, her lawyer, Bret Martin, issued a statement to People. He said, “We respectfully request that the media and the public allow the legal process to unfold. And withhold any judgment whatsoever until all of the evidence has been properly analyzed and presented in a court of law.”

  • How Madison Prewett Troutt Spun a Messy ‘Bachelor’ Season Into a Conservative Influencing Career

    [ad_1]

Advice like this is overtly provocative—but Prewett Troutt says she doesn’t want to spark discord with her words. “I don’t want there to be hatred and division and violence and loss and brokenness and sin,” she says. “I mean, those are things that are really hard to see and to witness. And I love everybody, so I want everyone to love everyone.” To her, a religious revival seems like the solution to the country’s woes. “I don’t think we have a political problem. I don’t think we have a racial problem. I don’t think we have a gender problem,” she says. “I think we need Jesus.”

Prewett Troutt grew up in a fairly cloistered world before she took a limo to The Bachelor’s crowded mansion in 2019. Raised in Alabama by her father, a coach for Auburn University’s basketball team, and mother, a Bible teacher, she was involved in her family’s Assemblies of God church community and the wider evangelical subculture. After leaving The Bachelor, she was hurt to see how other conservative Christians responded to her choice to participate in a reality dating show.

“It was really hard for me after I came off the show,” she says. “There were some months where I really struggled with wanting to be a part of a church, because I felt so judged and hurt by the church.” For months, Prewett Troutt says, she kept her distance.

But marrying Troutt brought her back into the fold—and into a more modern church, where conservative theology goes hand-in-hand with athleisure and Nike Dunks. “My husband and I moved to Waco, Texas, right after we got married, and he was working at a local church called Harris Creek,” she says. She credits their pastor, Jonathan Pokluda, with helping her develop as a public speaker.

Prewett Troutt’s plan to present an aesthetically attractive Christianity to the wider world is not without its challenges. In July, a video of the Troutts laughing about their eventual intention to spank their daughter—they’re currently parents to Hosanna, who was born in January 2025—inspired widespread outrage on TikTok and YouTube. Over 500 commenters on The Bachelor’s subreddit weighed in on the incident, and most of their remarks were strongly negative.

For Prewett Troutt’s detractors, the spanking video was a reminder that despite her large reach, she is still firmly ensconced in a bubble. Even other evangelicals complained that she and Troutt were repeating old, debunked ideas about how Christians should raise their children, without having the experience to know that their advice could be harmful. Because she gained her audience through The Bachelor, she may be less equipped to navigate the challenges of sharing unpopular views online as she’d be if, say, she’d spent those years debating atheists instead.

In the meantime, Prewett Troutt says that she and her husband are “learning” from the negative reaction to the spanking video. “I always want to listen before I speak. I always want to take it to God and ask him to lead me and guide me,” she says. “We take it to wise counsel and just say, like, ‘Hey, where did we mess up? Where did we fall short? Can y’all be praying for this?’ And so that’s what we’ve done.”

And for now, the criticism she’s gotten for remarks that seem out of step with modern culture are only making her more determined to stay the course. “I think there’s always something to learn anytime you get backlash,” she says. “It doesn’t make me want to shrink back or speak out less. It actually just makes me want to be even more bold, and be even more unashamed of God’s truth that I believe is the only thing that’ll set us free.”

That leads us to the shrewd bit of cross-pollination happening for ABC and Hulu, owned by the same parent company in Disney. After testing the waters with a Mormon Wives crossover on Hulu’s Vanderpump Villa earlier this year, then casting not one, but two cast members for Dancing With the Stars, the burgeoning reality television universe will triple dip by casting Paul as Bachelorette. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season three returns on November 13 and The Bachelorette is slated for a 2026 debut. This shores up the streaming-first Mormon Wives audience, helping to lure key viewership demographics back to the brand’s broadcast offerings. And that transfer can’t come soon enough: The premiere episode of Bachelor in Paradise season 10 earned roughly 3.2 million fewer viewers than season two of Mormon Wives, both of which aired this year.

Those in the know have long been calling for the outsourcing of leads. “They should take any single guy from Love Island season seven—he’s the next Bachelor,” Chad Kultgen, cohost of popular Bachelor podcast Game of Roses and coauthor of How to Win the Bachelor, told Vanity Fair earlier this year. “They have done the work for you, made these people superstars in the reality dating TV format. That’s how they should be thinking.”

The powers that be, including newly instated showrunner Scott Teti, former executive producer of Bravo’s Summer House, appear to have been listening. Before Taylor was announced as the next Bachelorette, fans originally believed the news would reveal the lead of The Bachelor’s landmark 30th season due to scheduling. Previously, The Bachelorette aired in the spring or summer, followed by Paradise, then The Bachelor in January. The franchise last cast a lead from outside of its pool of Instagrammable suitors for season 25 in Matt James, who became the first-ever Black Bachelor. Although, he was best known on social media as a close friend of The Bachelorette runner-up Tyler Cameron.

Even the manner in which Taylor was announced feels fresh. This is the first time a lead hasn’t been announced on an ABC-affiliated platform like Good Morning America or an After the Final Rose special. Cooper as conduit for such news feels like acknowledgment that a young female audience tunes into her podcast—and that the podcasting realm itself is key to sustaining The Bachelor’s relevance. Further proof: Former Bachelor Nick Viall, host of the popular Viall Files podcast, hosted the season two Mormon Wives reunion. And the last Paradise reunion was not filmed on an ABC soundstage, but recorded for the official Bachelor Happy Hour podcast.

There will be inevitable growing pains with such a shake-up—the ABC audience has previously been less forgiving of unapologetic women—and Paul has already said that she’ll require any husband of hers to relocate to Utah. (Hope he has his Swig order down!) But this only further stokes the intrigue that comes with casting Paul—who is well-versed in making must-see TV. “The more open you are, the more backlash you can get,” she told VF in May, “but also the more relatable you are.”

  • During ‘The Golden Bachelorette’ premiere, Malvern’s Charles L. gains fans and a rose

During ‘The Golden Bachelorette’ premiere, Malvern’s Charles L. gains fans and a rose

    [ad_1]

At the time when Bachelor Nation may have needed him the most, a local contestant emerged as a new franchise darling during “The Golden Bachelorette” series premiere.

Charles L., a 66-year-old retired data analyst from Malvern, made his debut during Wednesday’s episode of the dating show spinoff. The father of two connected with lead Joan Vassos, 61, as they shared tea and jokes, and he earned fans on social media for his sweet demeanor and his pure awe of the Bachelor Mansion set. Plus, he received a rose, so fans can continue following his journey for love.

RELATED: Philly’s Charles L., 66, to look for love on ‘The Golden Bachelorette’

The episode was a tearjerker from the start, as Vassos explained how she lost her husband to pancreatic cancer after 33 years together. Many of her 24 suitors also shared tragic tales of losing their own partners, including Charles — whose last name has not been released by ABC and whose Bachelorette bio previously stated he was from Philadelphia. He said six years ago he lost his wife, who he described as his “first and only love.” Charles has been lonely ever since, and his daughters encouraged him to try to find love again.

“I hope that Joan will know that I am very honest, nice, humorous, and if I can brag to say, pretty handsome,” he told cameras.

That humor was on full display when he stepped out of the limo for the first time to greet Vassos, and said, “I’m 66 years old, but I look like 36.”

The first nights of filming in the Bachelor franchise can often take all night, with rose ceremonies happening as the sun comes up. And much to fans’ delight, Charles seemed to pass the time by walking around the Bachelor Mansion, where the contestants reside for the first days of their journey, and exclaiming in awe at the opulent abode.

“It’s real nice,” Charles said, admiring the Le Creuset pots and other kitchen appliances in the mansion. “Oh, boy! They have a humongous refrigerator.”

Charles also had an early camaraderie with his fellow contestants and showed off his tight family ties when one of his daughters made him a video wishing him luck on his journey. Charles also shared a romantic cup of tea with Vassos, and she reciprocated by giving him a rose during the ceremony, while six others were sent home. Charles further endeared himself to Bachelor Nation with his humility during the rose ceremony as he appeared to mouth a surprised “Me?” when Vassos called his name. Mark Anderson, the future father-in-law of “Bachelor” star Joey Graziadei, also nabbed a rose.

Charles’ first night earned him plenty of fans, who posted on social media that Charles is “precious” and the “cutest man.” They also called for him to appear on a future “Golden” edition of the “Bachelor in Paradise” spinoff and called for him to meet “Golden Bachelor” fan favorites, like Delco’s Susan Noles. Here’s what Charles’ new fan club was saying on X, formerly Twitter:

Charles joins the ranks of recent Pennsylvania-based Bachelor franchise contestants who made a splash on night one. Brett Harris, of Lancaster County, was eliminated in the premiere of Jenn Tran’s season, but his humor earned him fans online and a potential ticket to the next season of “Bachelor in Paradise.”

The levity brought on by the wholesome “Golden Bachelorette” premiere — which even featured a group pickleball match — was much-needed by Bachelor Nation, who have been watching the nasty fallout of “The Bachelorette” season, which ended earlier this month with a contentious breakup between Tran and her final rose recipient, Devin Strader. Subsequently, it came out that Strader had been arrested in 2017 on accusations that he burglarized his ex-girlfriend’s home and also had a restraining order against him, leading to questions about how he made it through the casting process.

“The Golden Bachelorette” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC. Here’s what’s coming up this season:

  • ‘The Bachelor’: Grant Ellis Set to Become Franchise’s Second-Ever Black Male Lead

‘The Bachelor’: Grant Ellis Set to Become Franchise’s Second-Ever Black Male Lead

    [ad_1]

ABC has announced that Grant Ellis will be the next star of The Bachelor, the 29th man to assume the role since 2002. His selection was unveiled following the latest episode of Jenn Tran’s Bachelorette season, in which he was eliminated just shy of hometown dates.

The 30-year-old day trader from Houston, Texas was last seen as a suitor on the most recent season of The Bachelorette, where he became something of a fan favorite. In his last episode, Ellis confessed to falling in love with Tran, but made an emotional exit instead of securing a spot alongside the top four contestants: Marcus Shoberg, Jeremy Simon, Devin Strader, and Jonathon Johnson. During his one-on-one date in New Zealand this season, Ellis spoke about giving up his athletic career as a basketball player after a devastating injury. He also reflected on a difficult childhood impacted by his father’s substance abuse issues.

ABC describes Ellis in its official announcement as a “self-proclaimed mama’s boy” with an “infectious smile and unwavering positivity” that “instantly brightens every room he enters.” The next Bachelor is a former pro basketball player who also has affinity for “cheering on the Lakers, hitting strikes at the bowling alley, or belting out tunes at karaoke nights.” As the incoming lead, Ellis “hopes to find a partner who shares his values of loyalty, humor and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.”

Ellis becomes the second Black lead of The Bachelor, following the 2020 selection of Matt James, who is still dating his season’s winner Rachael Kirkconnell. His casting follows a string of white leads from the then-most recent Bachelorette season, including Joey Graziadei and Zach Shallcross, who are each still engaged to their final rose recipients, and Clayton Echard, who ended his season single before reconnecting with contestant Susie Evans for a nearly year-long relationship.

The next season of The Bachelor will air in 2025, which also brings the return of Bachelor in Paradise after a brief hiatus. After Tran’s season of The Bachelorette, the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelorette, led by former contestant Joan Vassos, airs on September 18.

The Bachelor Producers Address ‘Inexcusable’ Lack of Diversity

The Bachelor’s executive producers Claire Freeland and Bennett Graebner are getting candid about the franchise’s “inexcusable” historic lack of racial diversity.

“It’s hard to say out loud, that people of color didn’t see themselves represented, that they did not see The Bachelor franchise as a safe place,” Graebner said in an interview with The Los Angeles Times published on Wednesday, June 26.

“We didn’t have a Black lead in this franchise for 15 years, and that’s inexcusable. It created a vicious cycle, and it’s taken a lot of work to get back to a place where we feel at least we’re working for the positive,” the producer added.

The Bachelor introduced its first Black lead in 2021 when Matt James searched for love on season 25 of the ABC reality dating show. However, James’ season was mired in controversy when photos emerged of contestant — and eventual winner — Rachael Kirkconnell attending an antebellum-themed college party in 2018. (James and Kirkconnell are still together.)

The franchise faced even more backlash when former host Chris Harrison appeared to defend Kirkconnell in a fiery interview with former Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay on Extra. He subsequently left the show.

“I’m going to be really frank — we let Matt down,” Graebner candidly told the Los Angeles Times. “That season went wrong on so many levels. We did not protect him as we should have. The finale of that season was the darkest day I’ve had on this franchise. Here was this great Black man, and we should have been celebrating his love story. Instead, what we saw was a man burdened and overwhelmed by issues of racism. It was really sad for me personally.”

Graebner and Freeland said it’s a “priority” to cast another Black lead in the future and correct some of the mistakes they made in season 25.

The Bachelorette, meanwhile, will have its first Asian lead in Jenn Tran — who is Vietnamese — when the show returns on July 8.

“That’s on us. We didn’t do what we needed to do. Our hope is that they will see Jenn and realize this is a safe space. We’re not saying it will solve and fix everything. But it is a step,” said Graebner.

“We had extensive discussions with Jenn prior to filming,” Freeland added. “She is proud of her Vietnamese culture and she wanted to know if she could speak about that. We told her we wanted her to be her most authentic self.”

Trista Sutter ‘safe and sound’ after concern over Ryan Sutter’s cryptic posts – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Former Bachelorette Trista Sutter is just fine, but don’t expect to hear the full story about her mysterious absence any time soon.

On Saturday, 51-year-old Trista broke her silence about a series of unusual social media posts made by her husband Ryan Sutter earlier this month. Ryan’s posts, which told his followers Trista was away from her family and seemingly not in contact, sparked concern amid admirers of the first-ever Bachelorette couple.

“Geez people. Can’t a girl have a nervous breakdown/trial separation/midlife crisis/death/divorce in peace around here?!” Trista wrote on Instagram.

Trista made her statement alongside a photo of her, Ryan, 49, and their two children, Maxwell, 16, and Blakesley, 14.

“In all seriousness, for those concerned, I’m safe and sound, happy and healthy, in love and grateful,” Trista said. “For those who’d rather focus on being critical and searching way too hard for darkness, good luck with that.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Without disclosing where she’s been — or why Ryan said she’s been without communication — Trista said an “opportunity for perspective and personal growth presented itself” to her.

“With the unconditional support of my family and friends, I chose myself and betterment, knowing that my stay-at-home-mom job and my kids end-of-the-school-year needs were in the best, most capable hands,” she said.

Trista said her “stoic husband” Ryan made his cryptic posts out of love for her, so that they would reach her on her “travels.”

She told her followers that she and Ryan often use social media “like a digital diary.”

    Story continues below advertisement

“Most of the time, the world doesn’t pay too much attention,” she said. “This time, he couldn’t say anything right and just about every news outlet picked up his ‘cryptic/confusing/attention-seeking/dramatic’ pictures and captions.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world
sent to your email, as it happens.

However, Trista said Ryan’s posts reached her and gave her the emotional strength to combat “some serious self doubt and fear.”

“He doesn’t owe anyone any explanation or require permission to post what he wants to post and share what he wants to share,” Trista said.

She assured her followers she would share the rest of the story “in due time.”

“After all, nervous breakdowns and separations require much needed rest and relaxation!” she concluded.

Trista also shared several Instagram stories of Ryan and their kids lounging on the beach and enjoying a vacation in Mexico.

Trista and Ryan married in 2003 after becoming a couple in the inaugural season of The Bachelorette.

Ryan’s social media posts beginning earlier this month triggered worry and fascination over the behind-the-scenes lives of the reality stars. In his first of many posts to Instagram, Ryan said his wife’s “absence” has made his heart grow fonder.

“I can think of only a handful of days I have not, at minimum, spoken to this incredible woman,” he wrote. “She is the love of my life and my best friend. I cannot imagine loving her any more or any more fondly. But I guess we’re gonna find out…. I miss her already.”

    Story continues below advertisement

In one of several followup posts, Ryan said he posted the social media messages for his wife, but they were misconstrued by the general public.

Amid conspiracy theories that Trista was dead, or that the couple was getting a divorce, Ryan said he was accused of “intentionally misleading” his followers for social media clout or fame.

“It felt weird to wear the clothes of past fame once again, even if only briefly,” Ryan wrote, noting how viral his posts had become. “It reminded me of how crazy life was and of how grateful I am for the life I have. But, to be honest, it also felt good to know people still cared, and worried and wondered.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Ryan joked that he would return to posting only about his dog.

On Saturday, the same day that Trista made her own post, Ryan uploaded a photo of their family and welcomed Trista back.

“They say absence makes the heart grow fonder…. We found out it’s true,” he wrote. “It also makes the heart more grateful, more sympathetic, more appreciative for what someone does for you, with you, alongside of you.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Maybe the public will never know what goes on behind the scenes, but at least for now, it’s safe to say there’s little reason for Bachelor Nation fans to fret over the Sutters.

  • I’m Not Even Sure If I Can Finish The Bachelor

I’m Not Even Sure If I Can Finish The Bachelor

    [ad_1]

For the first time in years, I decided to watch
The Bachelor.Maybe it’s because my friends were talking about it incessantly and I have a severe case of FOMO. Maybe it’s because I felt contractually obligated to write about something related to television and pop culture. Either way, I locked in for Season 28 led by Joey Graziadei, who the internet has spent the past year fawning over.

But here’s the thing: I genuinely have grown to vehemently dislike just about everyone in this show. As a 25 year old woman, I’m appalled by the behavior of
everyone (including you, Joey). Last night’s Women Tell All episode left me with one consistent question: were the women aware what show they signed up for?

    @mygetawaycar13 women tell all 🙇♀️🙇♀️🙇♀️🙇♀️
♬ VA VA VOOM – Nightcore Revival

Beginning with Kelsey Anderson, who made it all the way to the final three and realized she
might not be okay with him seeing other women. This is a similar problem that Maria Gorgas had, who essentially sent herself home via an epic self-sabotage attempt that resulted in her being deemed the people’s princess. However, I have my qualms with Gorgas as well.

Maria had her issues with Lea and Sydney among others, who respectively seemed more focused on fighting with other women in the house than talking to Joey. But this entire season, Maria has been complaining, or talking over someone, or talking herself out of being on the show, so I’m having trouble seeing why people are finding her inability to communicate impressive.

She started struggling beyond the inner-household issues when she realized she didn’t want to see Joey date a bunch of women. Sound familiar? Again, you all signed up to go on a show with 30 women and you’re angry he’s cheating on you? I understand why she’d want to be the next Bachelorette- the reverse is a much better situation.

    @bachelor.tok this gotta be the weirdest drama in bachelor history #thebachelor #thebachelorette #bachelornation #thebachelorabc #fyp #CapCut ♬ original sound – Bachelor Tok

Once a dying franchise, ABC somehow has revived
The Bachelor with successful spinoffs like The Golden Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise. Yet, the thing about the show is that it’s a weird concept. These engagements hardly last, mostly because you get to know your future spouse within the span of three months…and in that span of time they’ve been dating many other people. Ideal.
