  • Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet show off auburn locks during Halloween outing

    [ad_1]

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex delighted royal fans this weekend after Meghan Markle shared an adorable new video of her family enjoying a day of festive fun at a pumpkin patch. The clip, set to ‘California Dreamin” by The Mamas & the Papas, showed Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, soaking in the autumn air as they explored the grounds with their parents and grandmother, Doria Ragland. The family outing offered a rare glimpse into the Sussexes’ relaxed California life – and we couldn’t help but notice the children’s beautiful auburn hair.

    Halloween fun

Sharing the clip on her Instagram on Sunday, the Duchess captioned the post: “Happy Sunday.” The video opened with sweeping shots of the pumpkin fields and a friendly scarecrow before cutting to Archie dashing through a maze. Lilibet, dressed in a cosy matching set, enjoyed a ride in a rustic wooden cart pulled by her mum, surrounded by hay bales and tractors. In another heartwarming moment, she could be seen playing with a tyre filled with white and yellow mini pumpkins, her auburn waves falling down her back.

    Auburn hair for autumn

Both children appear to have inherited their father’s signature red hair. Prince Harry himself has often joked about the “Spencer gene” running strong in his family. Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2023, Harry said: “I genuinely thought that if Meghan and I had kids, there’s no way the ginger gene would stand up to my wife’s genes – but I was wrong!”

When HELLO! caught up with the Duke at the 2024 WellChild Awards, he told our Chief Content Officer, Sophie Vokes-Dudgeon, that Archie and Lilibet had been “blessed with their mother’s thick hair”, adding that “it won’t be long until Lili can sit on hers.”

The video also captured sweet glimpses of Meghan and Harry holding hands as they watched Archie and Lili run through the rows of pumpkins. The Duchess looked effortlessly chic in a checked utility jacket, dark trousers and sturdy boots – perfectly suited for the countryside setting – while Harry kept things casual in jeans, a hoodie and a baseball cap. Also joining in the fun was Meghan’s mother, Doria, who was filmed trying her hand at pumpkin carving with her grandchildren and son-in-law Harry.

    Meghan’s autumnal look

This wasn’t the only autumnal look the Duchess was spotted wearing this weekend, as Meghan also stepped out in a low-key autumn style on 25 October. The 44-year-old was spotted attending a talk titled “Compare Notes on Creating a Home That’s Filled With Joy” at Godmother’s Bookstore in Summerland, California. The Duchess embraced the season in a chic tonal look – the Wool Wide Leg Pant in Fondant and matching silk tank from sustainable brand Cuyana.

  • Meghan Markle to miss Mother’s Day with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet

Meghan Markle to miss Mother’s Day with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet

    [ad_1]

The Duchess of Sussex will sadly miss out on celebrating Mother’s Day with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Prince Harry and Meghan will conclude their three-day trip to Nigeria on Sunday 12 May, when the annual holiday is marked in the US this year.

The couple were invited to the west African country by the chief of defence staff, with their public engagements including a visit to a school and a training session for Nigeria: Unconquered.

Archie, who turned five last Monday, and Lilibet, who will celebrate her third birthday on 4 June, did not accompany their parents on their overseas visit, remaining at the family’s home in Montecito, California. Find out why on the latest episode of HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast...

LISTEN: Why Archie and Lilibet did not join Harry and Meghan on Nigeria trip

But the youngsters have not been far from Meghan’s mind as she revealed at the Lightway Academy on Friday that Lilibet loves singing and dancing, while Archie enjoys construction.

    MORE ON ARCHIE AND LILIBET

The Duchess usually celebrates Mother’s Day privately with her children, but in the past, she has helped to support charitable campaigns.

Her first Mother’s Day in 2019 fell just six days after she and Harry welcomed baby Archie.

On their now-inactive Instagram account, Sussex Royal, the couple shared a sweet snapshot of Archie’s tiny toes against a backdrop of forget-me-nots in their garden at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

The caption poignantly made reference to Harry’s late Diana, Princess of Wales, whose favourite flowers were forget-me-nots: “Paying tribute to all mothers today – past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honour and celebrate each and every one of you.”

In 2021, when Meghan was just weeks away from giving birth to her daughter Lilibet, it was confirmed that the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation was working with local organisation, Harvest Home L.A, to donate essential items to pregnant women and their children.

The Duchess also penned a personal letter, writing: “As a mom, and an expectant mom, I deeply appreciate the significance of community support, safe and accessible pregnancy resources, and trusted guidance in a nurturing setting.

“These ingredients are essential to not just our physical health, but our mental well-being, and I commend you for leading a compassionate community that lives these values.”

And last year, Meghan supported a campaign from Alliance of Moms, which aims to raise awareness of “expectant and parenting foster youth” in Los Angeles.

The organisation was co-founded by one of Meghan’s closest friends, Kelly McKee Zajfenwho gushed about the Duchess “incredibly nurturing” nature in an Instagram post.

Kelly wrote: “As Mother’s Day approaches, I can’t help but think of my own #commUNITY of Motherhood. I instantly think of you Meg. How incredibly nurturing and warm and open you are. What an incredible friend and mother. I’m truly in awe of you and I am so grateful you are part of my #CommUNITYofmotherhood.”

She added: “You are always the first to say yes and support those you love. You are a fierce advocate for those who are in need. Thank you for joining this year’s campaign to support LA’s expectant and parenting foster youth, which helps provide critical services, education, resources and advocacy so they can build a better future for themselves and their families.”

A look at the history of Adelaide cottage

Many royal’s have lived in the property since it was built in 1831.

The Prince of Wales Prince William and his wife Princess Kate moved to the Windsor property on the the late Queen’s estate alongside their three children –Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – and their pet spaniel Orla in the summer of 2022.

According to reports, the Royal couple chose to settle in the residency so that the Princes and Princess can attend school there together, and aim to give their children the most normal upbringing they can.

At the time, it was a gift from the Queen, who had sole decision over who resided there.

The cottage is nestled in Home Park in Windsor, just a 10-minute walk from Windsor Castle.

Built in 1831, it featured parts of the Prince Regent’s Royal Lodge at the time, which was partly demolished and re-used for Princess Adelaide’s cottage.

It is part of the Crown Estate’s private 655-acre royal park.

The Grade II listed property underwent major renovations in 2015 and has been a grace-and-favour property since 1945.

A grace-and-favour property is a residence belonging to the monarch due to their position and can be gifted to others as part of an employment package or out of gratitude.

The outside of the property is picturesque, the master bedroom boasts a coved ceiling with gilded dolphins and rope ornament reused from the yacht Royal George.

It also has a slate roof, a marble Graeco-Egyptian fireplace and the south entrance is flanked by two diagonally set chimneys.

Prince William returns to public engagements for the first time since the Princess of Wales revealed she was being treated for cancer

    How big is Adelaide Cottage?

The picturesque cottage has been described as perfect for a family of five.

That’s because it has four bedrooms – one for each of the children and the Royal couple.

The property also features two parts – the main Adelaide Cottage but also Adelaide Lodge.

Many Royal experts have described it as one of the most  “aesthetically pleasing” residences that make up the royal estate.

The New York post reported that the property’s original porch is still untouched today.

The same can be said for the surrounding gardens.

However, naturally over the years, it’s acquired more modern features from a gravel driveway to a gatehouse.

Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle live at Adelaide Cottage?

The Mail On Sunday reported that Harry and Meghan had been for a viewing to Adelaide Cottage and fallen head over heels with it.

However, this was never confirmed and they moved into Frogmore Cottage after their wedding.

After they stepped down from Royal life, they settled in a mansion in California to raise their children Archie and Lilibet.

Who has previously lived at Adelaide Cottage?

Adelaide Cottage was also known as Adelaide Lodge

The cottage was also formerly known as Adelaide Lodge, named after William IV‘s consort Princess Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen.

It hasn’t provided a home for a member of the Royal Family until William and Kate moved in.

Queen Victoria would regularly visit the house for tea and breakfast, so much so a private carriageway was created for her.

Dash, her beloved King Charles spaniel is also buried on the grounds.

Most notably, Group Captain Peter Townsend lived in Adelaide Cottage, equerry to King George VI from 1944 to 1952.

He moved into the property with his wife Rosie Marchioness Camden in 1945 but they later divorced.

In more recent history, it hit the headlines that the Queen‘s sister, Princess Margaret, became Peter Townsend’s lover. Margaret was reportedly never permitted to marry Peter, a divorcee.

Before 2018, it was home to Simon Rhodes, son of Margaret Rhodes who was first cousin of the Queen and a Lady in Waiting to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
