  • New York Jets Land Former Detroit Lions Assistant to be Their Defensive Coordinator

    The New York Jets are once again dipping into Detroit’s coaching tree.

    According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Jets are hiring Brian Duker as their new defensive coordinator. Duker, 36, most recently served as the Miami Dolphins’ pass game coordinator and secondary coach and now reunites with Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, a coach he has deep history with dating back to their time in both Cleveland and Detroit.

    Duker’s path to an NFL coordinator role has been rapid and well-earned.

    He was originally hired by Dan Campbell in 2021 as a defensive assistant with the Detroit Lions, working closely with the secondary. His ties to Glenn go back even further, to 2015, when Duker was an intern with the Cleveland Browns while Glenn served as an assistant secondary coach.

    In 2022, Duker was promoted to safeties coach and quickly took on expanded responsibility when Aubrey Pleasant was dismissed midseason, effectively overseeing Detroit’s entire secondary. The following year, in 2023, he was elevated again, this time to defensive backs coach, with former Pro Bowl corner Dre Bly added to help coach the cornerbacks under Duker’s direction.

    That steady climb continued in Miami, where Duker became the Dolphins’ pass game coordinator and secondary coach, helping develop one of the league’s more aggressive and detail-oriented coverage units.

    Now, the Jets are handing him the biggest opportunity of his career: running the entire defense.

    For Glenn, the hire brings in a trusted lieutenant who knows his system, his terminology, and his expectations. For Duker, it’s the culmination of a rise that began under Dan Campbell in Detroit and now places him in charge of an NFL defense at just 36 years old.

  • New York Jets Interview Detroit Lions Assistant Coach

    A familiar face in Detroit’s defensive meeting room could soon be headed back to New York.

    Detroit Lions defensive assistant and safeties coach Jim O’Neil has reportedly interviewed for the New York Jets’ vacant defensive coordinator job, a move that would reunite him with former Lions defensive coordinator and current Jets head coach Aaron Glenn.

    The Jets began a wide search after parting ways with Steve Wilks during the 2025 season, and O’Neil is one of eight candidates they have spoken with as they look to reshape their defensive identity.

    A Trusted Voice in Detroit’s Secondary

    Although O’Neil has only been with the Lions since 2024, his impact has been significant. He worked closely with one of the strongest position groups on the roster, helping guide the continued rise of All-Pro Kerby Joseph and Pro Bowl defensive back Brian Branch.

    Detroit’s safety play has been a stabilizing force for a defense that leaned heavily on young talent, and O’Neil’s teaching, scheme versatility, and experience have been widely praised inside the building.

    The Aaron Glenn Connection

    The potential move makes even more sense when you consider the history.

    O’Neil overlapped with Aaron Glenn during Glenn’s final season as Detroit’s defensive coordinator before he took the Jets’ head coaching job. Glenn is now assembling his first full staff in New York, and familiarity, trust, and shared defensive philosophy often play a major role in those decisions.

    Bringing in O’Neil would give Glenn a coordinator who:

    • Knows his system
    • Has developed elite young defensive backs
    • Has coordinator experience at both the NFL and college levels
    • Has already led multiple defensive rooms

    A Long, Well-Traveled Coaching Résumé

    O’Neil’s coaching background spans more than two decades and includes:

    • NFL coordinator stints with the Browns, 49ers, and Northwestern
    • Defensive backs development with the Jets and Raiders

    • Extensive experience in both college and pro defensive systems

    That résumé, combined with recent success in Detroit, makes him a logical candidate for a Jets team looking to rebuild its defensive identity under Glenn.

    What It Would Mean for the Lions

    If O’Neil were to land the job, it would be another example of the Lions’ staff becoming a pipeline for league-wide promotions, a sign of respect for the culture Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes have built.

    It would also mean Detroit would need to replace one of the key voices in its secondary room, particularly for Branch and Joseph, who have flourished under his guidance.

    For now, it’s only an interview. But the connection, the timing, and the trust between O’Neil and Glenn make this one worth watching closely as the Jets continue their search for a new defensive coordinator.

  • Jets make NFL history with season of unprecedented futility and record-breaking failures

    The New York Jets have long been a laughingstock, but perhaps it has never been more deserved than right now.

    Gang Green ended their season with yet another loss, but this one — a 35-8 defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Bills — was a different kind of embarrassing.

    The loss marked the first time an NFL team has ever lost five consecutive games by at least 23 points — it had not been done in four games since 1972. Their point differential in that span is a -134, losing by an average of 26.8 points.

    The loss was also the 14th of the season for the Jets, a number they had only posted under Rich Kotite in 1995 and Adam Gase in 2020.

    The exclamation point, though, was that the Jets finished the season without an interception — another brutal NFL first. The San Francisco 49ers actually set an NFL record earlier this season, dating back to 2024, by not picking off a quarterback in 15 consecutive games. But that streak eventually snapped, and the Jets took it to a whole new level.

    The nightmare is over for the Jets, who were abysmal under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. Three different quarterbacks started for the Jets, as Justin Fields was benched and Tyrod Taylor was hurt in his absence, prompting Brady Cook to start at the end of the season.

    At the trade deadline, the Jets sent away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams for draft capital. Thankfully, those trades were with the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys, both of whom missed the playoffs. So the picks they got from them (the Colts’ 2026 first and Dallas’ 2026 second) are not half bad. Plus, the Jets now own the second pick of the draft.

  • New York Jets Make Decision on Aaron Glenn for 2026

    The New York Jets have officially made it clear where they stand on Aaron Glenn, and despite the ugly record, change is not coming.

    Glenn, who was hired last offseason after the Jets moved on from Robert Saleh, is expected to remain the team’s head coach moving forward, according to a report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic. That decision comes even as New York sits at 3–11, a step backward from last year’s already-disappointing five-win campaign.

    On the surface, it might seem like Glenn’s seat should be scorching hot. But behind the scenes, league insiders say that was never the case.

    Jets Never Considered Moving On

    According to Russini, Glenn’s job security was never seriously in question. Russini reports that around the league, agents are operating under the assumption that the Jets will stay patient and give Glenn time to oversee a full rebuild.

    “While the record hasn’t improved — at 3-11, the Jets are actually a game behind last year’s pace — I’m told that “one-and-done” was never under consideration,” Russini writes. “Glenn’s job is safe, and agents around the league are operating with the understanding that his position won’t be open. The organization recognizes this rebuild will take time. This season has been about evaluating the roster, establishing a foundation and culture and trusting Glenn’s long-term plan.”

    That patience is notable, especially given how quickly things unraveled for previous coaching staffs. But this time, ownership appears committed to a longer-term plan.

    A Long-Term Rebuild, Not a Quick Fix

    The Jets knew this wasn’t going to be a one-year turnaround when they hired Glenn, who came over after serving as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. New York’s roster remains thin in key areas, and the front office understands that tearing things down and rebuilding properly takes time, and losses.

    Rather than reacting emotionally to the standings, the organization is choosing stability, something Jets fans haven’t seen much of over the years.

    What This Means Going Forward

    For better or worse, Aaron Glenn is getting runway. The Jets will evaluate progress beyond the win-loss column, focusing on culture, development, and whether the foundation is being set for future success.

    That doesn’t mean expectations disappear in 2026, but it does mean Glenn will get the opportunity to see this rebuild through instead of becoming another short-term casualty.

    For now, the message from New York is simple: patience, even when it hurts.

    The Pittsburgh Steelers cruised to a second consecutive victory on Monday night. 

    Aaron Rodgers finished the night with just four incomplete passes in the 28-15 win, which also mathematically eliminated the Miami Dolphins from playoff contention. 

    The game also marked a reunion of sorts for Rodgers. 

    Zach Wilson, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, spent one season behind Rodgers on the New York Jets’ depth chart. Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2024 before reaching a one-year deal with the Dolphins in the offseason.

    Wilson and Rodgers briefly reconnected after Monday night’s game. During the moment, Wilson offered best wishes to the Super Bowl winner for his recent marriage to a still-unknown bride.

    “Congrats on getting married,” Wilson told Rodgers on the field at the Steelers’ home stadium. In June, Rodgers revealed that he had been married for “a couple of months.”

    Wilson’s stint as the Jets’ backup quarterback in 2023 was short-lived. Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury on just the fourth play of his regular season debut with the Jets. Wilson was thrust back into the starting role, a position he held during his first two tumultuous seasons with the team.

    Wilson ultimately appeared in 12 games in 2023, and the Jets finished that season with a 7-10 record.

    There could be an undrafted NFL rookie under center for the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon as Brady Cook is taking the first-team practice reps ahead of this weekend’s contests with the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium in Week 15. Cook is expected to receive his first NFL start with a pair of injuries to Tyrod Taylor (groin) and Justin Fields (knee) left the NFL veterans unable to participate in practice this week. In a five-year SEC career at Missouri, Cook completed 66% of his passes for 9,251 yards with 50 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. 

    The 24-year-old QB faces a tough test against a Jacksonville squad on a four-game winning streak. Jacksonville (9-4) has played well at home this season with a 5-2 record and will be looking to keep pace with the Houston Texans (8-5) and Indianapolis Colts (8-5) over the final weeks over the 2025 season in a competitive AFC South divisional race.

    Best Bet: Breece Hall 70+ rushing yards

    Breece Hall will need to lead New York’s offense with an inexperienced signal caller under center. The Iowa State-product has 877 rushing yards on 201 carries this season, an average of 67 yards per game in 2025.  Hall sits just 123 yards away from his first 1,000-yard campaign in the NFL after he came up six yards shy of the century mark at the end of the 2023 season.

    It won’t be easy to reach 100 yards against Jacksonville’s top-ranked rushing defense. While  Jaguars are susceptible to damage via the passing game as the 22nd-ranked passing defense, Jacksonville has limited opponents to 83 yards on the ground over 13 contests in 2025. Expect the Jaguars to load up the box in an attempt to limit Hall’s production in Week 15.

    New York finishes the season with three of four games on the road as a painful 2025 season slowly comes to a close. Like many NFL teams this season, Aaron Glenn’s squad was bitten by the injury bug which will make the final month of the season difficult. The Jets can still find a way to disrupt the developing playoff races around the NFL with battles against playoff-hopefuls Jacksonville (Week 15), New England (Week 17) and Buffalo (Week 18).

  • Suspect in NYC shooting of Jets cornerback Kris Boyd charged with attempted murder

    Frederick Green, a Bronx man who authorities said has four prior arrests, was charged Tuesday with attempted murder, assault and weapons possession in the shooting of New York Jets defensive back Kris Boyd on Nov. 16 outside a Midtown restaurant.

    Green, 20, was hiding in his girlfriend’s apartment in upstate New York and identified through social media posts and a Crime Stoppers tip, police sources told the New York Daily News. U.S. marshals took him into custody Monday in Amherst, N.Y., a suburb of Buffalo.

    Boyd, 29, was walking out of Asian fusion restaurant Sei Less with two teammates and another friend around 2 a.m. when he was shot in the abdomen and taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. The bullet lodged near his right lung in the pulmonary artery, police said.

    He posted on social media Nov. 19 that he was “starting to breathe on my own,” but two weeks ago was readmitted to the hospital because of health complications. However, Boyd had recovered enough that last week he made a surprise appearance at the Jets’ practice facility and attended a special teams meeting.

    NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at a news conference last month that the shooting occurred after a group of four to five men “chirped” at Boyd and his companions outside the restaurant, making fun of their fashionable attire.

    The confrontation continued when Boyd, Jets teammates Irvin Charles and Jamien Sherwood and another friend left the restaurant minutes later after deciding not to dine there. As they left, the same group again began to “verbally insult them, and once again, questioning their clothing,” Kenny said.

    A brawl ensued and one of the fighters — later allegedly identified as Green — fired two rounds from a gun, striking Boyd. Investigators released surveillance footage of the gunman and asked the public’s help identifying him.

    In an email to The Times on Nov. 17, an NYPD spokesman said, “The sought individual is described as male, medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag.”

    Green has four prior arrests, including one in 2024 for reckless endangerment and another in 2018 for robbery that was sealed because he was a juvenile, police told the Daily News.

    Boyd’s teammates were delighted to see him at the practice facility Dec. 3.

    “I’ve had friends that didn’t survive gunshot wounds, so to be able to see him walking around with a smile on his face, be able to [talk] with him, I mean, it’s always a blessing,” Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson told ESPN. “[Guns] aren’t toys and they’re very deadly, so the fact that he walked away from it is a blessing.”

    Boyd is in his first year with the Jets after playing the last two seasons with the Houston Texans and from 2019-2022 with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him in the seventh round in 2019 out of Texas.

  • PREVIEW – Playoffs: A Wealth of Riches in the Backfield — And Headed to the Playoffs as Villanova Takes on Harvard – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    Generally speaking, it’s been a great year for collegiate football in the Philly area. Not only have Penn and Villanova had winning seasons , but Temple has a chance to become bowl-eligible with its next game against North Texas.

    And once again — across America’s nearly 136 collegiate programs — talent from the Philly region can be felt from coast to coast.

    At the head of that list are the Villanova Wildcats (9–2), who learned on Sunday afternoon that they would be the #12 seed in the Football Championship Subdivision and would face Harvard in the first round.

    For Villanova ,  it’s another chance to highlight a great rushing attack.

    Villanova’s football program has had plenty of great talent over the years. Perhaps it’s finest — running back Brian Westbrook — whose career as an all-purpose player led him to a 1,000-yard rushing and receiving year in the same season (the first player in college to do so), the Walter Payton Award, and FCS Player of the Year. His contributions would land him in the Villanova Hall of Fame before playing six seasons with the Eagles.

    Former Villanova running back Kevin Monangai earned All-CAA Honors while a Wildcat and went on to play in the NFL for the Eagles and the Vikings. In the 1960s — running back Billy Joe was the only Villanova athlete ever inducted into the Varsity Club Hall of Fame for two sports — and would go on to play professionally for the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, and was a World Champion with the New York Jets.

    Now the Villanova Wildcats have a sophomore running back named David Avit. And they almost lost him.

    After a freshman season with 923 yards rushing and nine touchdowns,  Avit has followed up so far this year by breaking out against Monmouth with 135 yards. He followed up that performance with 102 yards against the University of New Hampshire and 63 yards against Elon.

    But that isn’t all of the talent. In the season finale against Scared Heart on Saturday, that included a mesmerizing performance on the ground from Ja’briel Mace, including 165 yards and two scores on nine carries, including an 80-yard scamper and a receiving touchdown in the 34–10 win.

    A week before, in an overtime win against Stony Brook with David Avit out due to a knee injury ,  Isaiah Ragland ran the ball for nearly 100 yards.

    For Villanova , late-season playoff football is bolstered by an elite running game.

    It gives potential for a deep run as well.

  • What will it take for the Falcons to make the playoffs? Wins, ways, and a miracle

    The Atlanta Falcons are back home after defeating the New Orleans Saints 24-10 on the road on Sunday. The victory may have only been the Falcons’ first in five weeks, but it has some significance. The win reignited the discussion over what it would take to make the playoffs, at the very least.

    At 4-7, the road to the playoffs in the NFC is going to take a lot of winning by Atlanta and a lot of losing by several teams. Before we go over the teams that the Falcons have to pass to make the playoffs, and what it will take to get that accomplished, the Falcons will need to win their final six games of the season.

    The Falcons are back on the road against the New York Jets (2-9 overall) on Sunday. A loss to the Jets would render this entire breakdown moot. The Falcons cannot afford to lose any of their remaining games. The seven losses are more than any of the teams that are in Atlanta’s way of getting a wild card spot have. Those teams are the following: the Detroit Lions (7-4), Green Bay Packers (7-3-1), Seattle Seahawks (8-3), San Francisco 49ers (8-4), and the Carolina Panthers (6-6 following a loss at San Francisco on Monday night. The Panthers hold a tiebreaker over the Falcons after sweeping them this season.

    Following the Jets game, the Falcons will return home to host the Seahawks, who are a game behind the L.A. Rams (9-2 overall) in the NFC West on Sunday, Dec. 7. Atlanta will host the Rams and NFL MVP candidate and former University of Georgia Bulldogs star quarterback Matthew Stafford (30 touchdowns and two interceptions this season) next month in the last Monday Night Football game of the year on Dec. 29. Both games can be described as the toughest of the season for Atlanta.

    Atlanta will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, Dec. 11, and a loss to Tampa will end the season, even if the Falcons win every other game they play from this point forward. The season-opening loss to Tampa has Atlanta in a position to not lose to the Buccaneers again or be swept by two teams in the NFC South (Carolina).

    The Falcons have games against the Cardinals in Arizona on Sunday, Dec. 21, and the Saints at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to close the regular season on Jan. 4. Neither will matter if the winning doesn’t continue. The Philadelphia Eagles (8-3), Chicago Bears (8-3), Bucs, and Rams are leading their respective divisions and won’t be out of the playoff picture without a free fall of some sort.

    The Falcons are not done with the 2025 season, but it will take a lot of winning and a miracle.

    New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields had a blunt reaction after he was benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor ahead of Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.  

    Fields, 26, didn’t have much to say as he was going to get a massage, adding that he didn’t have time to talk, the New York Post’s Brian Costello reported. 

    “There’s no reaction. That’s life. S— happens,” Fields remarked.

    Jets running back Breece Hall took issue with how Costello approached Fields at his locker and called him out over social media. 

    “Pathetic move by you (to be honest). Wish some of yall would grow up and stop acting like little kids nagging somebody till they get mad lol,” Hall posted to X.

    The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract, with $30 million guaranteed, to become the starter after releasing Aaron Rodgers. The quarterback has shown flashes this season but has largely struggled.

    In Fields’ nine starts this season, the Jets have gone 2-7. Fields completed 62.7% of his passes for 1,259 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception. 

    The passing offense with Fields has been anemic, as the quarterback is 29th in the NFL in passing yards. Fields has been outstanding as a rusher, running the ball 71 times for 381 yards and four touchdowns. 

    While Fields is a prolific runner, it hasn’t been enough to offset the team’s passing struggles with him under center.

    Taylor, 36, has appeared in three games and started one this season, when Fields was hurt. The 15-year veteran has completed 62.3% of his passes for 379 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions in limited action this season.

    Head coach Aaron Glenn hopes the switch pays off when the Jets (2-8) play  the Ravens (5-5) – one of Taylor’s former teams – on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

  • Injured Giants running back Cam Skattebo defends his WWE ‘Monday Night Raw’ appearance

    NEW YORK (AP) — While Cam Skattebo has not played football for the New York Giants since undergoing season-ending surgery in late October, the rookie running back still has plenty of people around sports talking about him.

    Skattebo attended WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” at Madison Square Garden, along with teammates Abdul Carter and Roy Robertson-Harris. After some back-and-forth banter during a skit, Skattebo shoved wrestler JD McDonagh from behind a barrier and got pushed back, with the clip going viral.

    “Cam’s crazy,” Giants starting left tackle Andrew Thomas said Tuesday with a chuckle.

    A handful of local radio hosts blasted Skattebo for risking his health by taking part in the show. Skattebo took to social media to defend himself.

    “Honestly if you don’t like that I’m having a good time while dealing with a tough time, then just go ahead and unfollow and casually move on,” Skattebo posted on X, formerly Twitter. “I’m not able to play football and have the fun I’ve been having my whole life so I am doing things outside the box trying to find stuff to keep me happy. Enjoy the rest of y’all’s week and just don’t talk about me if you ain’t got nothing nice to say.”

    Skattebo, who wore a jersey of Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe at the event, is recovering from a broken right fibula and dislocated right ankle after getting hurt in gruesome fashion Oct. 26 in a loss at Philadelphia. In a video interview with Complex Sports over the weekend, Skattebo showed how well the injury was healing, and he was wearing a protective boot at the Garden.

    The 23-year-old also was on the sideline Sunday at the Meadowlands on a scooter and sporting the boot.

    ESPN New York’s Chris Carlin said he “could not have been angrier at the just remarkable stupidity shown by Skattebo. He was one of the lone bright spots of this team, and he thinks it’s a good idea to get involved like that.”

    Co-host Bart Scott, who played 11 NFL seasons as a linebacker with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets, was less vocally critical but still described Skattebo’s participation as “carelessness.”

    “Whether you’re play wrestling or wrestling, it’s still a physical act,” Scott said.

    WFAN’s Chris McMonigle said “the optics are so bad.” On the same station, Brandon Tierney called it dumb.

    “I’m not here to be the buzz kill or holier than thou or the headmaster or the dean of discipline, but, dude, use common sense,” Tierney said. “What happens if there’s a little beer or a little water or a little seltzer on the Garden floor and he slips and he loses control?”

    Skattebo responded to that clip on social media by saying his foot was off the ground, adding, “Trust me wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize anything.”

    Skattebo, along with quarterback Jaxson Dart, had brought an infusion of energy into the organization before going down. The fourth-round pick out of Arizona State had run for five touchdowns and had two more receiving in his first eight professional games.

    Asked Tuesday on a video call with reporters about Skattebo at the Garden, second-year back Tyrone Tracy flashed a smile.

    “I wasn’t there last night, but you best believe I was fighting,” Tracy said. “I was fighting at home, though, telling him to duck and sit down. Cam’s a wild man. Everybody knows that. He’s going to go out there and do what he do.”

    New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn says he has spoken to Kris Boyd and is confident the cornerback and special teams standout will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

    Glenn said the hospitalized Boyd was “upbeat” in their recent conversation.

    “That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

    Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released from the hospital, where he has been listed in critical but stable condition.

    “Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

    New York police released surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted.

    No other injuries were reported.

    The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

    Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

    “The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind. …

    “There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

    Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on Aug. 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery to repair.

    He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice Aug. 2 and carted from the field.

    Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

    “He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

    Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6 million with the Jets in March.

    The NYPD released two photos of a suspect wanted in an investigation into a shooting that left New York Jets player Kris Boyd wounded on Sunday morning in Midtown Manhattan.

    The photos showed a Black man in a black beanie. The suspect was not identified. The man was “wanted for an assault,” according to police.

    “On Sunday, November 16, 2025, at approximately 2:06 A.M., in front of 156 West 38 Street, in the confines of the Midtown South Precinct, an unidentified individual discharged a firearm, striking a 29-year-old male victim in the abdomen,” police said in a post on Facebook. “The unidentified individual fled the location on foot traveling eastbound on West 38 Street to parts unknown.

    “The sought individual is described as male, medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag.”

    Boyd, 29, was later identified as the victim in the shooting.

    A friend of the NFL veteran cornerback and special teams player said that Boyd was making progress in his recovery.

    “He’s all good right now. He’s in good condition. He’s doing real good,” Eric Quander told the New York Post on Sunday.

    New York City Mayor Eric Adams released a statement on the shooting as well.

    “I am praying for New York Jets player Kris Boyd and his loved ones,” Adams wrote in post on X. “Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence. Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic.”

    The Jets said they were aware of the situation.

    Boyd’s teammates, Harrison Phillips and Jermaine Johnson, asked fans for prayers for Boyd on social media.

    “Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety,” linebacker Johnson wrote in a post.

    “Lord, place your mighty hand on him as he fights lord God. Guide every doctor, nurse, and surgeon who touches him lord,” Phillips added. “Give his family strength! Kris is a fighter and we’re all here for him.”

    Police said a 29-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and taken to a hospital where he was in critical, but stable condition. Boyd was later identified as the victim.

    It’s Tyrod Taylor time once again for the New York Jets.

    The team is making a quarterback change, opting to go with the veteran backup over Justin Fields following a Thursday Night Football defeat against the New England Patriots, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Monday.

    Fields went 15-for-26 with 116 passing yards, a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown in New England, and the Jets’ passing offense has failed to take off all season. The team is dead last in the NFL in passing yards per game (139.9) through 11 weeks after agreeing to a two-year, $40 million contract with Fields this offseason.

    Taylor has already made three appearances in his 15th NFL season. He entered in relief for an injured Fields against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, played the whole game the following week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and again filled in after Fields got hurt against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7.

    In all, Taylor has a 62.3 completion percentage with 379 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and three interceptions this season.

    Taylor will lead the Jets against one of his six former teams, the Baltimore Ravens, at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday for a Week 12 matchup.

    Sources told CBS News New York the shooting followed a verbal dispute that escalated. CBS Sports, ESPN and the New York Post reported Boyd was the man rushed to the hospital. Mayor Eric Adams later confirmed Boyd as the victim.

    A statement from the Jets said, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

    The latest on the investigation

    The NYPD said a man was leaving Asian fusion restaurant Sei Less with a small group when they were confronted by another group that had also left the eatery. An argument occurred and one person in the opposing group took out a gun and fired twice. One shot hit the man in the chest, police said.

    The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, going in and out of consciousness. He was in stable condition as of Sunday night, law enforcement sources told CBS News.  

    Police still haven’t pinned down if the dispute the attacker had was with Boyd’s group or another group that was there. It’s been a challenging investigative environment and police have not yet uncovered a motive, the sources said.

    Investigators are searching for two luxury vehicles — a BMW and a Mercedes — that fled the scene.

    No arrests have been made and there has been no description of the shooter, according to police.

    “Tragic, it’s unbelievable what’s happening in the city nowadays,” Ruben Soto added.

    (CNN) — New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot outside a New York City restaurant early Sunday morning, according to a law enforcement source briefed on the situation.

    The source said Boyd was shot in the stomach and later was rushed to Bellevue Hospital.

    Earlier on Sunday, the New York Police Department told CNN a 29-year-old male was in “critical but stable condition” after being transported to the hospital. The police did not mention Boyd’s name.

    In a statement to CNN, the Jets said they were “aware of the situation” involving Boyd, but “will have no further comment at this time.”

    New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a message on X he was praying for Boyd and his loved ones.

    “Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence,” Adams added. “Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic.”

    According to the source, the incident happened around 2 a.m. ET outside of a restaurant on 38th Street, near 7th Avenue after a dispute escalated and two shots were fired.

    No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

    The law enforcement source said two cars were spotted on a surveillance camera leaving a parking garage near the restaurant.

    Both vehicles pulled over and interacted with Boyd and his group, the official told CNN.

    Moments later, the gunman opened fire, striking Boyd and then sped off in one of the vehicles.

    The official added investigators are expected to get access to the garage’s surveillance footage and are getting some cooperation from witnesses to the incident.

    CNN has reached out to Boyd’s agent for comment.

    The New York Post was first to report on the situation.

    Boyd was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Texas by the Minnesota Vikings. He has also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before signing with the Jets this past offseason.

    In August, Boyd was placed on the injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

    Jets teammates including linebacker Jermaine Johnson and defensive tackler Harrison Phillips asked for prayers for Boyd.

    The Jets player, 29, was shot outside Sei Less restaurant in midtown around 2 a.m. Sunday, the sources said.

    Boyd was hit in the abdomen and the bullet was lodged in his lung, sources added. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.

    The New York team released a brief statement saying it was aware of the incident.

    Additional details about the reported fight and what led up to the shooting were not immediately known.

    The Patriots wore “Storm Blue” color jerseys with white helmets and pants. 

    There were six stars on the uniform to signify six New England states and a unique “NE” logo on the shoulder of the uniform, featuring nautical lettering and compass points.
