  • The Property Brothers Help Trump Remodel the White House With a Budget ‘Between $350 Million and Infinity’ on ‘SNL’

    [ad_1]

Host Miles Teller portrayed both Jonathan and Drew Scott – the Property Brothers from the show of the same name – as the twins showed up at the White House to help Donald Trump remodel the White House on “Saturday Night Live.”

Americans have been aghast at watching Trump demolish the East Wing to build a ballroom, and the skit managed to work in ICE, the movie theater demolition, Melania’s decorating style and Trump’s thirst for a third term.

“This week, we’re taking on our biggest challenge yet — building the new White House ballroom,” announced Teller. “Donald and Melania moved into this house nine years ago. They were evicted for four years, but they moved back in. Donald has a strong eye for interior design.”

“I put these gold urns everywhere,” Trump says.

“Like a hundred in every room. That makes me happy. It’s very important to be happy these days. Really dark stuff happening in the world. Some of it is me.And here’s a crown I just got from my trip to Asia. Nothing says democracy like a crown, right?,” says James Austin Johnson as President Trump.

Teller then takes a tour of the White House with the Trumps, commenting on Melania’s taste. “She’s got a style all her own. I love these Halloween decorations you put up.”

“Those are for Christmas,” deadpans Melania, played by Chloe Fineman.

“The Trumps have already made a few subtle changes to the house,” Teller explains.

“Donald put a painting of himself as a soldier from ‘Halo,’” Melania points out.

Melania explains that the remodeling is taking place because the house is “only 55,000 square feet” and they need a ballroom, because “Donald, he loves to dance.”

“I’m a terrific dancer. Terrific dancer. Just ask your eyes. Right?,” says Trump.

The Property Brothers said they asked Donald what his budget was and he said “Between $350 million and infinity.”

Trump then tells the brothers he wants to construct a ring for MMA fights and proposes hosting “bum fights.” “Official ones but also casual fights in the backyard, you know what I’m talking about? Two mentally ill guys just whaling on each other. Do bum fights again. Remember bum fights? We love bum fights!,” Trump exclaims.

“It will be ready just in time for my third term. We want this to be our forever home. Because we’re not leaving. We’re going to be doing something called coup,” says Trump

As they end their White House tour, Teller says, “I guess the only thing left is the payment for the construction.”

“Aren’t you guys from Canada? Trump asks, yelling “ICE!” as agents storm the room. “There goes ICE. We like them. Spooky, very spooky. It’s a very spooky secret police thing.”

“‘The Property Brothers.’ Only on HGTV and Truth Social,” the announcer concludes.

  • Twin Miles Tellers Spoof ‘Property Brothers’ Tackling Trump’s White House East Wing Demolition & New Ballroom In Pre-Taped ‘SNL’ Sketch

    [ad_1]

Miles Teller pulled double-duty (in a way) by portraying twin brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott in a pre-taped Saturday Night Live sketch spoofing the Canadian reality TV series Property Brothers. This time, the two real estate property developers field their “biggest challenge yet” — the gargantuan task of having President Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) as a client and being tasked with building the White House ballroom.

But as the siblings attempt to navigate Trump’s increasingly difficult and outlandish requests, they must also deal with the simmering tension and resentment they feel toward each other.

The two begin by touring the premises, noting ironically that Trump has a “strong eye for interior design,” which the GOP leader attributes to his affinity for gauche golden urns, which he puts “everywhere, like a hundred in every room.”

While complimenting Melania Trump’s (Chloe Fineman) Halloween decorations of dead trees, skeletons and other spooky fixtures, the First Lady responds sardonically, “Those are for Christmas.”

Other changes include Trump replacing a portrait of former POTUS FDR with a painting of himself as a soldier from Halo. Meanwhile, upcoming renovation requests include turning the Rose Garden grounds into what looks like “outdoor seating for an Olive Garden,” supplemented by a budget “between $350 million and infinity.”

As the two brothers recall with an uneasy laugh, when asking Trump if he needs a permit, he apparently laughed and told them: “I could build this ballroom with the bones of my enemies, and no one could stop me.”

For his inspiration, Trump points to a mood board that includes, among other images, photos of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Star Wars‘ powerful gangster Jabba the Hutt.

Other reno plans include installing an MMA ring for “two mentally ill guys just wailing on each other … we love bum fights,” Trump says.

After Trump responds to a text with a gif of the White House exploding, the brothers can commence with the East Wing demolition. However, due to the government shutdown, the duo had to “force Park Rangers and astronauts” to carry out the operation. After hitting a snag because all construction workers had been deported, Johnson’s Trump reflects, “I pulled up to the Home Depot parking lot and yelled, ‘Just give me the whites!’ I want the day laborers from Norway and Sweden, but, apparently, they don’t exist.”

“We want this to be our forever home,” Melania says after Trump says he’s preparing for a third term. He then adds, “Yes, because we’re not leaving. We’re gonna be doing something called ‘coup!’”

As the sketch concludes, the brothers ask for payment, at which point Trump responds with calling ICE on them, given that the sibling duo originates from Canada.

    Watch it above.

  • Eternity Should Be Sadder

    [ad_1]

    Photo: Leah Gallo/A24

Eternity is an old-school crowd-pleaser. Directed by David Freyne, it’s big and brightly lit, the type of movie you watch during the holidays despite it having nothing to do with Christmas. It’s full of beautiful people and whimsical flourishes and features a premise so instantly appealing it begs the question, How hasn’t this been done before? A woman named Joan (Elizabeth Olsen) arrives in the afterlife and has to choose which of her two deceased husbands to spend her afterlife with: her first husband, Luke (Callum Turner), who died in military service shortly after the pair married, or her second husband, Larry (Miles Teller), whom she was married to for 65 years and raised her family with. It’s an impossible and irreversible choice between pursuing the life she never got to have and continuing to build on the life and memories she did. But for a movie with such high and clear emotional stakes, it sure has a lot of jokes.

A lot of these jokes add to the movie’s texture, particularly those embedded in the movie’s intricate (after)world-building. For example, each newly dead person has to choose a specific “eternity” to spend forever in, and among the infinite choices they’re presented with are eternities like “smokers’ world: because cancer can’t kill you twice” and “capitalist world: What’s the point of being rich if someone else isn’t poor?” At one point, an announcement plays over a loudspeaker, issuing a reminder to the deceased: “Geopolitical differences don’t matter; you’re dead.” Jokes also land with regularity thanks to the actors who deliver them, in particular John Early and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who play “afterlife coordinators” tasked with helping Joan and Larry plan their afterlife. They function as de facto rom-com sidekicks offering comic relief.

But the movie never slows the pace of jokes enough for such relief to feel necessary. Even the central characters, for whom you’d think this would all be heartbreaking, constantly deliver quips. Comic beats interrupt otherwise affecting scenes, like when Joan and Luke relive their life together in a video archive of their memories on Earth, and an embarrassed Joan skips past a memory of them having sex: “No, no, no!” Larry and Luke develop a rivalry in which any genuine hurt they are causing one another gets sidelined in favor of petty squabbling; in one scene, Larry tries to discount the valor of Luke’s war death: “It was Korea, buddy. Relax!” The result is that the premise plays like a 1950s-sitcom predicament. Joan, discombobulated by the choice she’s presented with, is appropriately tortured at times by the gravity of it all but seems just as likely to put her hands on her hips, pout, and exclaim, “What a pickle!”

None of this is to say Eternity needed to be another Past Lives, telling the story of a woman forced to confront the divergent paths of life with two possible romantic partners in as aching a tone as possible. Pure comedies have their place. But in the movie’s final act, Freyne clearly wants to evoke tears. There are big romantic sacrifices, sad good-byes, and wrenching looks of longing and regret that don’t hit as hard as they could, because the audience hasn’t been given space to feel these characters’ emotions build over the course of the film. Eternity didn’t need to be a melodrama, but sometimes a little schmaltz goes a long way.

PHILADELPHIA — Country music star Tim McGraw, son of the late Philadelphia Phillies reliever Tug McGraw, received a huge ovation during Game 3 of the World Series at Citizens Bank Park Tuesday night.

The “I Like It, I Love It” singer wore his father’s No. 45 McGraw Phillies jersey.

Tug McGraw closed the 1980 World Series with a strikeout, jumping up into that famous pose to celebrate the Phillies’ first championship. He’s also synonymous in Philly with the phrase “Ya gotta believe!”

Before the start of the World Series, Tim McGraw tweeted “Let’s go Phillies!” and a video of his father clinching the championship more than 40 years ago.

Game 3 brought out other big names to The Bank.

Philly sports champions Mike Schmidt, Julius Erving, Brandon Graham and Bernie Parent threw first pitches to 2008 World Series champions Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, Jayson Werth and Shane Victorino.

“Top Gun: Maverick” star Miles Teller who has been a mainstay at the stadium this postseason continued cheering on his hometown Phillies.

New Jersey native and 2-time FIFA World Cup Champion Carli Lloyd, 2020 MLB Hall of Fame inductee Derek Jeter, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Rob McElhenney, Eagles’ Fletcher Cox and supermodel Kate Upton, the wife of Houston Astros’ Justin Verlander, were all on hand to see the Phillies’ 7-0 win.

First lady Jill Biden is set to attend Game 4 Wednesday night.

  • Miles Teller Rips ‘SNL’ Cast With Spot-On Peyton Manning Impression

Miles Teller Rips ‘SNL’ Cast With Spot-On Peyton Manning Impression

    [ad_1]

“Top Gun: Maverick” actor Miles Teller pulled off a spot-on Peyton Manning impression to break down “Saturday Night Live” cast members’ performances during the show’s cold open this weekend.

Teller hosted “SNL” for its premiere on Saturday as he – along with cast member Andrew Dismukes – played as the Manning brothers to mock the show and its new set of comedians following a summer of departures.

Teller and Dismukes did a rendition of the brothers’ “Manningcast” broadcast to critique a sketch on former President Donald Trump’s stay at his Mar-a-Lago estate during a hurricane.

Teller, in the midst of his commentary on the sketch, predicted a mediocre, error-laden performance from “rookie” cast member Michael Longfellow.

“The new guy’s fully panicking, he’s just staring in the camera,” Teller said.

“Oh God and you know what, that might be the only time we see him tonight,” Dismukes added.

Teller later looped in three-time “SNL” host and fellow “Top Gun” actor Jon Hamm to weigh in on the show’s cast.

The Trump sketch included an appearance by five-time Olympian Shaun White, who played the special master assigned to review documents the FBI seized in a search of Trump’s estate.

“I’ve decided, they’re all awesome,” White said as he held up a briefcase.

“Yeah, well, you know sometimes they need to bring in a real celebrity when the host isn’t that famous,” Hamm said of White’s appearance in the sketch.

You can watch the 48th season premiere’s cold open, and Teller fire back at Hamm, below.

    New York
    CNN Business
     —

“Saturday Night Live” kicked off its 48th season on Saturday night with host Miles Teller as former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning and Andrew Dismukes as his brother, Eli.

In the sketch, the two were doing an analysis of the season premiere of the NBC variety show.

“Ok, we got an establishing shot of Mar-a-Lago,” Dismukes’ Eli said.

“Oh good! Trump sketch,” Teller’s Peyton said. “Way to mix it up.”

This led to the two watching a Trump sketch starring James Austin Johnson as the former president.

Peyton (Teller) and Eli (Dismukes) were not happy with the sketch.

“Okay, time out,” Dismukes’ Eli said, pausing the sketch. “What the hell was that?”

Teller’s Peyton asked why there were no fun impersonations of Anthony Fauci or Rudy Giuliani.

“Those were all Kate McKinnon,” Dismukes’ Eli informed Teller’s Peyton. McKinnon left the show last season.

Bowen Yang then entered the sketch and flubbed a line, which the two former faux quarterbacks called out.

“He was supposed to take a step up this year,” Dismukes’ Eli said. “But you can tell the pressure is getting to him.”

Teller’s Peyton said that the show is in a “rebuilding year for sure.”

The two then went over the show’s stats so far, which were “14 attempted jokes, 1 mild laugh and 3 chuckles.”

“Thank God they have Kendrick Lamar because that’s the only reason anyone is tuning in,” Teller’s Peyton said – the joke being that Teller is also the host.

The two then brought out former host Jon Hamm as a guest and asked him what he’s seen so far tonight.

“I don’t know, but it’s not comedy,” Hamm said.

Hamm, Teller’s co-star in “Top Gun: Maverick,” then remarked that the show can’t even get famous hosts anymore.

“Well, I heard they rarely put the host in the cold open, so when they do… it’s special,” Teller’s Peyton said.

The whole cast then said the show’s signature catch phrase, “Live… from New York. It’s Saturday Night!”
