A former assistant U.S. attorney who has served as a key prosecutor in high profile cases in New York has joined Greenberg Traurig, a global law firm whose Long Island office.

Anthony Bagnuola, whose work at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York included the prosecution of ex-Rep. George Santos, joined Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in its Litigation Practice. There, he focuses on commercial litigation, appellate work, white-collar defense and more. With locations in Garden City and Bridgehampton, the Long Island office now have more than 30 attorneys.

“Anthony has been a widely respected superstar litigator and leader in the Eastern District,” Richard Rosenbaum, executive chairman of Greenberg Traurig, said in a news release about Bagnuola joining the firm.

“As the latest of more than 60 former federal and state prosecutors at Greenberg Traurig, he will not only immediately add legal talent and reputation to our Long Island office, but strong personal and leadership skills,” Rosenbaum added.

Bagnuola secured convictions in multiple trials in the Eastern District of New York (EDNY). As an experienced first-chair trial and appellate litigator, he managed attorney teams through every phase of complex litigation matters, according to Greenberg Traurig.

Bagnuola “makes our strong commercial litigation bench even stronger,” John McEntee and Brian Doyle, co-managing shareholders of the Long Island office, said in a joint statement.

“Commercial litigation in the Long Island region has tremendous growth potential, and we are looking forward to providing clients with a strong and knowledgeable local advocate in Anthony,” they said.

Bagnuola, they said, “has the knowledge to provide the firm with key white collar criminal defense work on Long Island and beyond.”

During his more than seven years at the EDNY, Bagnuola advanced to deputy chief for criminal appeals and subsequently to senior trial counsel in the court’s 115-attorney criminal division. Earlier in his career, he practiced in the litigation departments of an international law firm and several mid-market firms, representing clients in government and regulatory matters as well as a range of commercial disputes. He also served two terms as a federal law clerk in the Eastern District.

“The time was right for me to look for new challenges,” Bagnuola said in the news release. “There are very few firms that combine Greenberg Traurig’s global reach with its local focus on Long Island, and I am excited to work on sophisticated cases in its nimble commercial litigation practice, in this region and beyond.”

The firm, he said,  “offers a unique opportunity to work in ‘big law’ on Long Island, and the chance to stay in this legal community was key for me. Greenberg Traurig and its Long Island attorneys have a stellar reputation in the community, and it is due in large part to their track record of entrepreneurship and collaboration that I am excited to join the firm.”

Bagnuola handles government and internal investigations and related matters. He is the third recent addition to Greenberg Traurig’s Long Island office, following John Bourquin IV and Jamie Rothman Agman, who joined the firm as associates in 2025.

Levy will succeed Evan Krinick, who has led the firm since 2013. Krinick will remain active in the firm, continuing to represent clients and participate in management initiatives.

“It has been a privilege to be the managing partner of this great organization,” Krinick said in a firmwide announcement. “After more than 12 years as managing partner, it is time to hand the reins to another partner.”

Levy, in a written statement, said he was “truly honored by his partners’ confidence in his ability to lead the firm forward.” He added that “working under Evan’s leadership over the past 12 years has served as a tremendous blueprint in terms of continuing to grow the firm while maintaining its unique culture.”
