Strictly star rushes son to hospital after accident: “Another head injury to leave another scar”

Strictly Come Dancing 2016 alumni Greg Rutherford shared on Instagram that his son Rex has suffered an accident leaving him with a head injury.

Describing the incident as adding “another” scar, the retired Olympian took to social media to share Rex’s bump. Snapping a selfie whilst in the hospital, Greg likened Rex’s antics to his own.

Rex’s head injury comes after Greg suffered his own nasty injury whilst rehearsing for Dancing On Ice.

The dad-of-three took to Instagram to share that Rex had suffered an injury. He could be seen posing alongside his son who sported a bloodied bandage on his forehead.

Greg penned alongside the photo: “Back to the hospital.” He went on to explain: “It would seem we have created my EXACT replica in Rexy.

“Another head injury to leave another scar. He’s got a few more to go to match me, but he’s doing his best to catch.”

Greg shares his three children with partner, Susie Verrill. The athlete has two sons, Milo and Rex and a daughter named Daphne.

    Family life

Greg often keeps his 199K followers up to date with his family life via Instagram. He recently shared a father and son trip he enjoyed with Milo on social media.

Greg penned: “Now I’ve got my phone back, I can finally talk about what an incredible day we had on Saturday! I took Milo to Wembley for the first time to watch our team do what everyone thought was the impossible.

“We had the best time and were so looked after by @clubwembley. The seats, high fiving the players, the food. I don’t think much is going to top this! Amazing for @manchesterunited and a really special dad & son day.”

    Greg Rutherford injuries

The long-jump champion suffered an extremely painful injury on the ice ahead of a performance on Dancing On Ice in February. Whilst rehearsing, he appeared to tear his abs on the blade of an ice skate.

He wrote to social media at the time: “Although I won’t be able to skate for maybe a couple of months. I intend on getting back on the ice and keeping it up. I really do love it.”

Greg also admitted his stomach was “not in a good way”. Despite his positivity, Greg did end up missing out on the final and had to undergo surgery.

Greg previously appeared on Alexis Conran & Friends, also during February, and chatted about how he was forced to retire from long-jump due to his injuries.

Greg said: “My body isn’t what it once was anyway. And I had to retire due to injuries anyway. So it’s very tough.”

Greg also described pushing himself to the limits. He said: “But the problem is things like this then take place and then you deal with it again, which is less than ideal.”

Due to suffering several ankle injuries, Greg retired in 2018. He is well-known for claiming a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics. He also won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 and 2016 European Athletics Championships and 2015 World Athletics Championships.

Dancing On Ice star Ryan Thomas has been announced as the 2024 winner tonight following a dramatic finale.

Ryan, Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire fought it out to be crowned the 2024 champion. Unfortunately, Greg Rutherford had to pull out of the final earlier today following an injury.

Adele finished in third place alongside her pro partner Mark Hanretty. Miles and Vanessa Bauer and Ryan and Amani Fancy then performed the Bolero before the vote was revealed.

    Who won Dancing On Ice?

Ryan and Amani were announced as the 2024 winners of Dancing On Ice.

Ryan said: “I’m speechless. Amani, I’m happy for her because she’s put so much hard work into me. Greg, if you’re watching this at home, this trophy is for you mate.”

A tearful Amani said: “I’m just so proud of you for making this happen!”

Viewers were over the moon over the result. One person said on X: “So glad Ryan won though. He was the best tonight and really deserved it as he’s always pushed himself through the competition.”

Another gushed: “Not going to lie, Ryan wasn’t my favourite at the beginning but that journey was INCREDIBLE. A worthy winner.”

Someone else added: “Yay!! Ryan won so happy. Both were great skaters tbh.”

However, others called out host Stephen Mulhern for a blunder he made at the end of the show. He said: “You decided at home that Ryan and Vanessa are you champions!”

One viewer said: “Stephen messed up at the end saying your winners Ryan and Vanessa instead of Amani.”

Another wrote: “Did anyone else notice how red Stephen got when he wrongly shouted Vanessa’s name as the winner at the end.”

Someone else added: “Ryan and Amani not Ryan and Vanessa Stephen!”

Meanwhile, others accused Stephen of ‘giving away’ the result before Holly announced the winners. He was seen leaning over and resting his hand on Vanessa’s shoulder just before Holly confirmed that Ryan was the winner.

One viewer said: “Sorry but the way Stephen went over and put his hand on Vanessa’s shoulder was a dead giveaway that Ryan had won.”

Another wrote: “Maybe next year Stephen won’t telegraph the result by giving the losing pair a sad look and a pat on the shoulder before it gets announced.”

Someone else added: “Is it just me who felt like Stephen Mulhern gave it away seconds before Holly announced the winner by the sympathetic look and hand on Vanessa’s shoulder??”

Greg Rutherford quits Dancing On Ice

Earlier on Sunday, Greg announced he was “devastated” after being forced to withdraw from the show. His skating partner Vanessa James wrote on Instagram: “Unfortunately Greg has sustained a significant injury this morning at rehearsals and won’t be able to perform tonight. We are on our way to the hospital for Greg to get examined further and receive the treatment he needs.”

Meanwhile, Dancing On Ice said: “Sadly Olympian Greg Rutherford MBE has had to withdraw from Dancing On Ice after sustaining an injury whilst in rehearsals for the final episode of the current series.

“Greg and Vanessa have been such a popular couple this series and have performed some truly memorable routines.

“We will be helping to support Greg and wish him well with his recovery. We also want to thank him for being such a treasured member of the Dancing on Ice family.”

  • Dancing On Ice trend set to be broken as Amber Davies named as favourite to win?

Dancing On Ice trend set to be broken as Amber Davies named as favourite to win?

    [ad_1]

Strictly’s finished, Christmas is behind us and that can only mean one thing – it’s almost time for ITV favourite Dancing On Ice to return to our screens for its 2024 series!

The celeb ice-dancing competition will kick off with its launch show this coming Sunday (January 14) and personally, we can’t wait.

In case you missed it (or just need reminding!) the line-up this year is made up of: Olympian Greg Rutherford, S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt, skiing icon Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards, boxer Ricky Hatton, Corrie’s Ryan Thomas and Claire Sweeney, DJ Adele Roberts, comedian Lou Saunders, Love Island star Amber Davies, Made In Chelsea’s Miles Nazaire, EastEnders actor Ricky Norwood, Emmerdale‘s Roxy Shahidi.

Some big names this year, but who will come out on top? Here’s what the bookies reckon…

Dancing On Ice favourite to win revealed

Since the show’s revival in 2018, only male celebs have lifted the Dancing On Ice trophy. However, if BoyleSports‘ odds are anything to go by, 2024 could finally see an end to this ‘curse’!

According to the betting company, it’s Love Island‘s Amber Davies who is the one to beat, with the best odds at 3/1.

However, hot on Amber’s heels (or should we say skates?) is Miles Nazaire of Made In Chelsea, the two of them being this year’s youngest contestants.

Sportspeople often do well on the show, so it’s perhaps not surprising that Greg Rutherford is also up there at 4/1. However the same is apparently not being said for Ricky Hatton, who is the outsider at 40/1.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Ricky Hatton is on the ropes already according to the odds, but Love Island’s Amber is the darling of punters so far and they clearly think she’ll win hearts on the ice.”

Don’t forget to watch Dancing On Ice at 6.30pm this Sunday January 14 on ITV1 and ITVX.
