  • I’ve just had a baby – I lived in these maternity dresses throughout my pregnancy

    [ad_1]

The best maternity dresses don’t just see you through your pregnancy, but after you’ve given birth too. That’s what three Glamour editors on maternity leave found, anyway.

If you’re anything like us you’ll likely prioritise comfort over style throughout each trimester, reaching (and re-reaching!) for the best maternity leggings, favouring stretchy maternity jeans and wearing your maternity nightwear whenever you can get away with it.

That being said, maternity dresses are actually just as comfy and are, in fact, so much simpler to wear. A throw-on-and-go outfit when you’re too busy creating life to think about what looks good together? Sign us up.

Over the nine months that you’re carrying your baby, your body can change in ways you may never have thought possible. And while you might’ve written off maternity clothes altogether, assuming you can eke out the wear of your usual wardrobe staples, let us gently inform you that while possible for some of your looser pieces there may be a lot that you’ve outgrown. And that’s entirely normal, there’s no shame in it whatsoever. The great news, though? A lot of the maternity dresses that we’ve road-tested aren’t actually labelled ‘maternity’ at all; they’re very much versatile enough to be worn pre- and postpartum.

Yep. Some of our favourite e-tailers have caught on to the need for multi-purpose maternity frocks, and their selections are growing daily – you can now find anything from casual day dresses to office appropriate pieces, and even dresses for a night out (tee-totalling and tearing up the dance floor until 2AM aren’t mutually exclusive, after all).

Plus, many of our favourite high-street brand’s websites have specific ‘maternity’ sections, which makes shopping for new maternity dresses a lot easier when your mind is distracted by pelvic floor exercises and hospital bag packing

    Why you can trust us

Senior Beauty Editor, Elle Turner, Commerce Photo Editor, Neamh Randal and, freelance Fashion Editor, Charlie Teather, have all become first-time mums over the last few years, and – alongside, you know, prepping for one of humankind’s toughest physical feats and the subsequent life-altering reality of a tiny new human to care for 24/7 – rediscovering how to dress a body that was changing every single day posed a real challenge.

We didn’t want to lose our personal style identities, but we also wanted to celebrate and not just ‘disguise’ this incredible moment in our lives. And if we were finding this balance hard to strike, after working our whole adult lives in the fashion and magazine industry, we figured others must be too. So, we made it something of a personal/professional mission to compile the ultimate maternity fashion guides. If for nothing more than for us to refer back to if/when we ever do this pregnancy thing again, because (spoiler alert) baby brain is no joke, people…

How we tested the best maternity dresses

The number of bump-friendly dresses out there is rather overwhelming. So, Elle, Charlie and Néamh, who are all currently navigating life with their tiny humans, trawled through high street and specialist brands to find the most stylish maternity dresses at every price point. They considered fit, style, value for money and longevity postpartum.

From long sleeve stretchy dresses for casual days to drop-waist midis for nights out (because, yes, you can still hit the town with bump in tow) and a feathered mini dress to pack for your babymoon, they’ve brought you the best selection of maternity dresses out there. See a handful of their favs below, and the rest if you keep scrolling…

  • What to wear to an autumn wedding

    [ad_1]

Though we hear about it all the time, there’s actually no such thing as “wedding season”. I’m currently on the hunt for the best autumn wedding guest dresses, because although May-August are the most popular months for tying the knot, September-November nuptials exist too.

And, trust me, it’s not as simple as throwing a blazer over one of your old-faithful wedding guest dresses and calling it a day.

As AW25 trends take over our favourite high-street and designer stores, I’m putting my best summer wedding guest dresses on hold ’til next year and will continue browsing the best fall wedding guest dresses from here until December.

Thanks to Dior, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy, tulle is going to be everywhere for the upcoming season, and as for colours; gothic black and scarlet red is the way to go. Though, maybe ask the bride for her opinion on both beforehand…

    luca wetherby-matthews/@lucawetherbym

The actual purchasing part is easier said than done, however. Whether you’re after the best wedding guest dresses with sleeves, something sparkly/sequin-y as we edge into winter wedding guest dress territory, or a mini dress adorned in autumnal florals, it can be hard to strike the balance between “best dressed”, “out-shining the bride” and “overly practical”. You’ll want to stay warm while posing for pics outside in the breeze, granted, but, a bit like when you’re shopping for the best spring wedding guest dresses, it’s not exactly going to be freezing either – so how to find the perfect middle?

After much deliberation and a few trend-related chats with GLAMOUR’s favourite dress brands, I’ve come to a conclusion and have 33 autumn wedding guest dresses bookmarked and ready to buy. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.

From online clothing stores like ASOS, Nobody’s Child, Pretty Lavish and Net-A-Porter, there’s a stunning array of Instagram-ready gowns that will really pop on your feed (and IRL, too). Find them below.

The annual MTV Video Music Awards is not only one of music’s biggest celebrations, but also presents another opportunity for attendees and performers to show off their sartorial best. Sheer was a reigning trend throughout the night held at New York’s UBS Arena, namely with Sabrina Carpenter and Tate McRae outfits. The “Man’s Best Friend” singer stunned in a completely sheer, beaded red gown from Valentino with a lavender fuzzy boa. Meanwhile, McRae embraced the trend in a custom Ludovic de Saint Sernin number that featured a bra top with a plunging sweetheart neckline and twisted spaghetti straps paired with a see-through skirt with a train creating a cutout silhouette.

The sheer mania at the 2025 VMAs is just a gleaming reminder that the naked dress trend is still relevant, and not going anywhere anytime soon. Countless celebrities have rocked the silhouette throughout the years, with stars like Miley Cyrus, Kylie Jenner, and Doechii embracing the look, from the Billboard Women in Music Awards to the Met Gala. And these stars prove the trend has graduated from your average see-through slip to more innovative designs — from cutouts with sheer overlays in full-coverage dresses to see-through catsuits. Of course, we’ve gathered some of the best sultry styles for every style, shape, and occasion that will help you nail the trend.

Whether you’re headed to a much-needed girls’ night out or gathering looks for your bestie’s tropical bachelorette, we have options just for you, even as low as $20. From an unconventional take on the LBD to sheer pants for your warm-weather evening soirées, shop our top sheer finds ahead.

  • Taylor Swift’s Casual Engagement Dress Is Just as Viral as Her $550,000 Ring

Whether you’re a die-hard Swiftie or not, you can agree that anything Taylor Swift does has an unmatched impact. Whether it’s the resurgence of friendship bracelets thanks to her “Eras” tour, the endless obsession with her Mac red lipstick, or wearing denim dresses to the gym, the star brings a whole new meaning to the word “influence.” As if her new album tease on Aug. 12 (at 12:12 a.m. to be exact), wasn’t enough to leave fans in a frenzy, Swift just achieved her biggest internet-breaking moment yet — her engagement.

In an Instagram post, the 35-year-old star and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce broke the happy news, with Swift’s cushion-cut vintage diamond engagement ring (estimated at $550,000) and naked manicure being the center of attention. While fans couldn’t stop staring at her ridiculously huge rock, her navy-and-white striped midi dress by Ralph Lauren also stole the spotlight during the momentous occasion — so much so that it sold out in 20 minutes.

Of course, it’s no surprise that the “Fortnight” singer’s exact ensemble isn’t available to shop, but that’s where we come in. After an in-depth search, we found a few similar options that are sure to be Swift-approved, and they’re way below the $398 price point. Whether you’re in the market for a late summer getup or just need another excuse to shop, consider these alternatives that are just as chic: Lentta Striped Smocked Maxi Dress ($29); Cider Strapless Dress ($36); Abercrombie The A&F Emerson Strapless Maxi Dress ($60, originally $120); Princess Polly Pokey Stripe Sleeveless Cotton Maxi Dress ($75); and the Moon River Stripe Ruched Strapless Midi Dress ($98). We also managed to find Swift’s shoe silhouette in the Margaux The City Sandal ($365), and this under-$200 option: Frankie4 Eadie Ankle Strap Sandal ($198).

  • The Best “Love Island USA” Reunion Looks, From Bandage Dresses to Cutouts

    [ad_1]

The highly-anticipated season seven reunion of “Love Island USA” brought a slew of drama. From the season’s winners Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales addressing cheating rumors to the validity of Jeremiah Brown and Austin Shepard’s brotherhood being questioned, cringe was an overarching theme of the night. But all drama aside, the islanders were challenged to sport their sartorial best to discuss the season’s most viral moments — a trend that has been set with Andy Cohen’s tenure as the host for reunions such as “The Real Housewives” franchise. The legendary TV personality joined the season-seven stars, along with the show’s impeccably-dressed host Ariana Madix for a night full of tea, and the looks were definitely referential.

Madix, who’s cemented herself as the fashion icon of the “Love Island USA” world, showed up in a blue-and-purple sequined mermaid-esque gown from Jean Pierre Khoury Couture’s spring/summer 2025 collection that featured a plunging neckline, a subtle cutout right below the bust, and embellished 3D flowers. Contestants like Huda Mustafa and Andreina Santos also looked to high-end designers for their ensembles, wearing a velvet floral dress from Roberto Cavalli’s fall/winter 2006 collection and an Hervé Léger bandage dress, respectively. Meanwhile, couples Nic Vansteenberghe and Olandria Carthen and Chelley Bissainthe and Ace Greene wore custom gold and green looks — the ladies in gowns from Julian Mendez Couture and Jagne specifically.

Ahead, check out the best outfits from the “Love Island USA” season seven reunion, and shop available and similar pieces to grab for your next formal event.

  • Amaya Espinal’s Muumuu Is More Than Just a Viral “Love Island USA” Moment

It’s no secret that “Love Island USA” is impacting current culture as we know it. While it’s far from the first love-centered reality show that we’ve seen, its popularity is especially referential. The show’s foundational concept is unusual alone — being secluded on an island away from the outside world to find the love you’ve been looking for all your life. Islanders also played a significant role in season seven’s massive impact, including Olandria Carthen and Nicolas Vansteenberghe’s kiss that caused a massive crash-out at “Love Island” watch parties. Another highlight from the show that’s still on our minds? Amaya Espinal (aka our sensitive gangster) wearing a muumuu in episode 28.

While the New Yorker’s bubbly personality and witty candor have given us plenty of meme-worthy moments to reflect on, her muumuu is far from just another piece of clothing that’s passed the TikTok viral test. In an interview with the Today show, Espinal revealed that she only had a day to prepare for the show before being flown to Fiji, so she threw a bunch of clothing in a suitcase — including the muumuu she got during a trip to Portugal. “Bringing that piece back to the villa reminded me of my travels and reminded me of the good days whenever I was having a bad one,” she says. “It was more than a dress for sure — it really made me feel grounded.”

Apart from the sentimental value it holds for Espinal, the muumuu bears cultural significance that’s particularly noteworthy. The comfortable piece can be traced back to the early 19th century, when Christian missionaries in Hawaii influenced native women to wear the silhouette to further cultivate modesty. Hawaiian women adapted a more casual, sleeveless version — the “holokū” — for everyday wear, before it was renamed the muumuu. Fast forward to present day, the dress style is still acceptable in Western culture, and often a go-to purchase for vacations, Hawaiian-themed parties like luaus, and more. And of course, celebrities have proudly embraced the muumuu — most recently, Kris Jenner, Oprah Winfrey, and Gayle King were seen wearing them on a Mallorca getaway.

Espinal wearing her own speaks to the diversity we need to see more of on reality shows, and is a surefire way to exhibit the fact that modesty is still attractive. During the scene in which she wore it, her partner, Bryan Arenales, complimented her look (despite her labeling it as a “grandma dress”). His support proves that you don’t always need to show skin to be deemed attractive or desired — especially in the eyes of your romantic partner.

While her exact dress isn’t available to shop, we found similar picks that evoke the same level of style and confidence: Unique Kaftans Floral Print Long Tunic Dress ($3, originally $10), JaipurCraftandArt Cotton Kaftan ($27, originally $75), and H&M Oversized Kaftan Dress ($75).

I won’t lie to you, the Kacey Musgraves x Reformation collection does not align with my typical aesthetic. But the 36-year-old singer, who is currently on tour promoting “Deeper Well” — which was just nominated for CMA’s album of the year — wears it well. The 17-piece capsule collection aims to showcase Musgraves’s personal style and music evolution. It has an English countryside feeling, composed of rich plaids, delicate lace, Victorian bows, equestrian boots, and vintage denim corsets. In a word, it’s romantic — which is not how you’d describe even a small chunk of my wardrobe.

While I love avant-garde shapes and bold colors, and would even describe my fashion sensibility as ever-changing, I had yet to dabble in pouf sleeves and doily trims until I met the Bunny Dress ($248). Since the collaboration was dropped in stores and online on Sept. 16, this dress has quickly become one of the most popular silhouettes, largely thanks to Musgraves’s appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” The Bunny was the first item she wore from the line she helped design, teamed with a pair of simple black heeled mules.

I had yet to dabble in pouf sleeves and doily trims until I met the Bunny Dress.

“I got to curate every single detail of this whole line,” she told Meyers. “There’s denim, there’s headscarves, there’s boots, dresses — it’s very romantic and I’m really proud of it.” She continued, “It wasn’t something I just slapped my name on. I really wanted to bring the ‘Deeper Well’ aesthetic into a different dimension.” Musgraves went on to reveal that she worked with Reformation for a full year on production, and then shot the campaign in the Cotswolds in England, with her little sister Kelly Christine Sutton behind the camera.

“I keep saying this is the perfect line for you to just frolic around in,” Musgraves said. And while I’ve never bought a dress that made me think of frolicking in the meadow (what meadow?), Musgraves’s on-screen look was so appealing, I knew I wanted to put my personal touch on it and try to make it my own. What happened when I actually got my hands on the Bunny mini and tried it on surprised me even more. Not only did I feel comfortable enough to embrace my girlier, dare I say demure-leaning, side, I also accessorized with frilly socks and Mary-Janes, a nod to Musgraves’s iconic campaign.

Scroll to learn a bit more about the Kacey Musgraves x Reformation collaboration ahead, then read my full review of the Bunny Dress.

What Are the Most Popular Pieces in the Kacey Musgraves x Reformation Collection?

The Kacey Musgraves x Reformation collection is comprised of 17 pieces that range in price from $28 to $498. The Bunny dress is definitely one of the most popular pieces, likely because it was the first style Musgraves debuted when she paid a visit to Seth Meyers. The exact version she wore is still in stock in every size, except for in petite, where most sizes are currently waitlist only. According to Reformation, the collection sold very quickly, with the Deeper Well Denim Shirt and Dallas Denim Corset being first to sell through — although most sizes are currently restocked at this time. The Silver Lining Cashmere Two Piece also gets plenty of search, and it’s currently available in both gray, and almost every size in camel.

Is the Kacey Musgraves Reformation Collection Sustainable?

Like all of Reformation‘s clothing, Kacey Musgraves x Ref prioritizes sustainability. You can read about the brand’s commitment to sustainable production methods here, but the 17-piece collection does incorporate deadstock fabrics, regenerative wool, and recycled cashmere, minimizing every shopper’s carbon footprint.

What I Like About the Kacey Musgraves Reformation Bunny Dress

The Kacey Musgraves x Reformation collection comes with a signature tag that suggests exclusivity, which is especially appealing for fans. Like most of Reformation’s clothing, the Bunny Dress feels well-made and isn’t too flimsy or thin. It comes lined and the scoop-neck is comfortable. Neither the elastic at the sleeves or the lace trim felt itchy against my skin during wear. But I think I discovered my favorite element of this dress before I even left the house: It’s actually very versatile.

We saw Musgraves wear it with mules on the aforementioned talk show; I liked how it looked in the mirror with knee-high boots, my Steve Madden loafers, and the cranberry Mary-Janes and socks combination that Musgraves and I both successfully pulled off; and podcast host and author Tinx even wore it with the Franklin Boots that are part of the collection. Finally, the dress definitely fits true to size. I’m wearing a 0, which is my typical size, and it fit like a glove.

What to Consider Before Buying the Kacey Musgraves Reformation Bunny Dress

If you love a dress that’s machine washable, unfortunately, the Bunny is dry clean only to preserve all the delicate details. However, in my opinion, this is a year-round investment piece that works with tights and boots in the winter and bare legs and flats in the summer, so I think it’s worth the trip to the cleaners. Price-wise, this dress does err on the expensive side when it comes to a minidress, but, again, it can be dressed up or down and works for many different occasions. If you’re considered petite like me (I’m 5’1″), I would recommend trying out the shorter iteration, but I actually felt satisfied with the length of the regular size, which suggests a petite cut might have been too short for my liking.

Where Can You Buy the Kacey Musgraves Bunny Dress From Reformation?

The Kacey Musgraves x Reformation Bunny Dress is currently only available on the brand’s website.

  • Bob Mackie Talks Dressing Cher, Madonna, Miley Cyrus & More

Bob Mackie Talks Dressing Cher, Madonna, Miley Cyrus & More

    [ad_1]

Bob Mackie was never much for nightlife. “I was in my studio, working away, and I couldn’t have been happier,” he says. But perhaps no designer is more responsible than he is for broadcasting glamour, pizzazz, and pure spectacle into Americans’ living rooms. Born and raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Mackie always knew he wanted to be a designer. Encouraged early on by the legendary costumer Edith Head, Mackie worked for a time under the midcentury pioneer Jean Louis before breaking through on his own with the outfits for Mitzi Gaynor’s Las Vegas revue in 1966. He went on to help shape the stage and screen image of a Mount Rushmore of legendary divas: Carol Burnett, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Diahann Carroll, and, perhaps most iconically, Cher.

In time, his clients wanted to wear his designs in everyday life—and so did their fans. Runway collections and some of the most eye-popping red carpet gowns of all time followed, but Hollywood remained his true love. (He has a Tony, nine Emmys, and three Oscar nominations to prove it.) Mackie’s life story will be told in the documentary Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion, to be released later this year; in the meantime, the designer takes us behind the scenes of his dream factory and the glittering moments that defined his career.

“I tried out for cheerleading because I knew I wasn’t going to be a football player,” says Mackie (top right). “I thought to myself, Well, it’s the closest thing to show business without being in show business.” Though Mackie remembers those times fondly, he did have one fashion note for his alma mater: “We had the worst school colors. They were maroon and gray. Can you imagine?”

Mackie, seen here with his elder sister, Patricia, grew up with a supportive family, but they didn’t quite understand his Hollywood dream. So he took matters into his own hands by studying the careers of those who came before him. “I always wanted to go to Chouinard Art Institute,” he says. “Many of the designers in Hollywood had gone to that school back in the 1920s.” Originally enrolled at Pasadena City College, Mackie made it to Chouinard after winning a scholarship.

In 1961, Mackie left Chouinard after a year and worked as a sketch artist for Edith Head and Jean Louis. He was often at the NBC costume workroom, having outfits made. He was so excited he ended up decorating the workroom’s door with his drawings for Christmas.

Mackie first encountered Barbra Streisand in 1963, when she guested on The Judy Garland Show while he was working as an assistant costume designer. But their most significant collaboration would come on the set of 1975’s Funny Lady, where this photo was taken. “I stood behind her and I looked,” says Mackie. “She was quite amused by the fact that I was almost doing her facial pose.” She sent him this signed copy afterward.

    Harry Langdon/Getty Images

“Diana Ross is one of the most gifted and talented and hardest to live with ladies I know,” says Mackie. They first collaborated on a television special featuring the Temptations and Ross’s group, the Supremes. “It was a big salute to Broadway, and it was so much fun to do,” says Mackie. “And I got an Emmy.” They worked together for decades, creating looks for the screen, the stage, and the red carpet. This nude-illusion bodysuit, worn on the cover of Ross’s 1970 album Everything Is Everything, has frequently been emulated but never quite duplicated in the years since.

“Bernadette Peters is my oldest friend in this business, in television especially,” says Mackie. “We had her on The Carol Burnett Show I don’t know how many times.” Here, the pair attend the 1986 Met Gala. In sharp contrast to today, he says, back then society types were still a bit stuffy about entertainers joining the event.

Fairchild Archive/WWD/Penske Media via Getty Images

Mackie’s first foray into consumer fashion was a collection for the lingerie brand Glydons in 1979. Predating the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show by decades, the extravagant runway show was staged at Studio 54.

“I’m not going to say any more about the Met Gala moment,” says Mackie, referring to the Marilyn Monroe dress that Kim Kardashian infamously rewore in 2022. Mackie was the sketch artist for the Jean Louis dress, which Monroe had worn to serenade President John F. Kennedy at his 45th birthday celebration in 1962. Mackie described Kardashian’s decision to unearth it as a “big mistake.”

Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images

Madonna wasn’t a regular Mackie client, but the one time they crossed paths made pop culture history. Fashion editor Marina Schiano dolled up the Material Girl like Marilyn Monroe in a Mackie runway sample for a 1991 cover of Vanity Fair. On set, Madonna said she wanted something like it to wear to the Academy Awards, and Schiano told her to call up Mackie and ask him to make her something special. “She wore that dress all night—to perform, at the parties. We got a lot of publicity,” recalls Mackie.

“They were giving Joan a big to-do in San Francisco, where they were showing Land of the Pharaohs, in which she played an Egyptian queen of some sort,” says Mackie of this night with Joan Collins, circa 1981. “We were right in the heart of the gay district in San Francisco. That place was packed. And there she was, dressed like that, in a brand-new dress that I did for her.”

    Harry Langdon/Getty Images

“I was on pussy patrol because Cher was stark naked except for some chains,” says Mackie of the heavy metal–inspired photo shoot for the singer’s 1979 rock album, Prisoner. “There were all these guys around with hardly anything on. She said, ‘Stay there so nobody will see anything.’ I said, ‘What do you mean, see anything? You’re naked!’ ”

The singer with Burnett on the show Cher in 1975.

Mackie did the costumes for all 11 seasons of The Carol Burnett Show, where he met Cher. “Sonny and Cher were on the very first season. We were repairing a beaded dress, and she said, ‘Someday I’d like to have a beaded dress.’ And I said, ‘Well, you could.’ She said, ‘No, we can’t afford it right now.’ I said, ‘When you’re ready, I’m ready.’ ” Here she is with Raquel Welch in 1975.

    Frank Trapper/Corbis via Getty Images

After donning Mackie at the Oscars in 1984—where she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, for Silkwood—Cher returned in 1986 to present the Best Supporting Actor award in one of the most famous creations by the designer. “I said to her, ‘Do you think maybe it’s too much outfit? You’re pulling focus from the actual winner of this award,’ ” recalls Mackie. “And she said, ‘Oh, no. I don’t know who it’ll be, but he’ll love it.’ ” Don Ameche ended up winning for Cocoon and did, in fact, love it: “He said, ‘I would not have my picture in every paper in the country with Cher if she hadn’t dressed like that.’ ”

Mackie never really intended to show his work on the runway. “I wanted to design for movies, stage, and Broadway—anything other than fashion.” Still, so many private clients called on him that he began producing regular collections in the 1980s. How did the established New York fashion guard respond to Mackie’s arrival? “They were all very nice. Some of them made shirts that said HOLLYWOOD BOB on them.” Mackie celebrates after a show, circa 1986.

Mackie was the guest judge on the very first episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, long before the show became an Emmy-winning machine. “I thought I’d never get out of there. Do you know how long it takes for drag queens to put on their makeup?” he asks. The show invited him back in 2023 to honor him with the first ever Giving Us Lifetime Achievement Award.

RuPaul has worn Mackie’s creations numerous times, including a silver version of the signature flame dress to the 1995 VH1 Fashion and Music Awards.

It’s not a surprise that the man recently responsible for styling some of Hollywood’s biggest superstars has a fondness for Mackie. “This dress was kind of a tribute to My Fair Lady from a Broadway collection that I did. Law Roach found it, and he was hanging on to it for something special.” Roach ended up putting it on then-client Anya Taylor-Joy for the 2020 premiere of her film Emma. “On her, it was amazing,” says Mackie.

Iman, a frequent muse and presence on his runways, closed out his 1983 show in a towering bridal ensemble.

“Miley is one of those creatures who was born to be onstage,” says Mackie. “You can’t beat her—it’s amazing.” Cyrus’s team had reached out about pulling from Mackie’s archive for her 2024 Grammys performance of “Flowers,” and she eventually settled on a one-of-a-kind beaded fringe dress from a 2002 collection. The piece fit like a glove, and she performed her choreography in front of the designer. “She’s one of the Disney kids. They’re just so well-trained. They know about rehearsal, and they know about getting everything right—the lighting and the hair. There’s never a detail she’s not worried about.”

    21st birthday outfits

This post will show you cute 21st birthday outfits perfect for any celebration.

Turning 21 soon? This calls for an amazing, show-stopping ensemble to celebrate the special occasion in!

You may be feeling the pressure of trying to put together the perfect look, but this guide is here to help make you look and feel your best on your big day (or night).

Whether you’re heading out for a fun evening with friends or just keeping it chill, we have six outfit ideas perfect for celebrating your 21st birthday in, along with fashion tips for the occassion. Cheers to another year and happy birthday!

Key Pieces for a 21st Birthday Celebration:

Before we get to the fashion picks, here are a few must-have items for a 21st birthday look:

    • Crossbody bag, wristlet, or clutch with wrist strap — For a wild night out, you don’t want to be burdened by a heavy bag or one that’s difficult to carry. Go for a crossbody, wristlet, or clutch that attaches to you, so that you won’t lose your money and ID.
    • 21st birthday tiara, sash, or light-up shot glass – These are optional but so much fun! Aside from perhaps a bachelorette party, a 21st birthday is the ONLY time you’ll have a built-in excuse to look completely ridiculous at the bars and restaurants. It’s your birthday, so live it up! These will also encourage others to celebrate you while you’re out (i.e., buy you a drink).
    • Amazing dress — Your 21st birthday is the perfect opportunity to splurge on that perfect party dress – go for something you absolutely love, and make sure it’s something you’ll be able to dance in. 21st birthday dresses are supposed to be fun and head-turning!
    • Flashy heels — It’s your birthday, so why not make a statement with your footwear? Something sexy, sparkly, or bright is a must for your 21st!
    • Plenty of jewelry — This is the ultimate occasion to sparkle, so pile on all the bling.
    • Lipgloss — You’ll want to freshen up as the night goes on. Glossy lips are always a bonus.

5 Best Stores for 21st Birthday Dresses:

    1. Princess Polly — Super trendy and affordable going-out dresses and two-piece sets.
    2. Lulus — Great for cute and girly dresses that won’t break the bank, either.
    3. Revolve — On the pricier side, but a huge selection of fashion-forward frocks that are ideal for special occasions.
    4. Windsor Store — Here, you’ll find sexy and sparkly dresses that are budget-friendly.
    5. Forever 21 — We couldn’t leave this one out! 😉

Now for the looks! Whether you’re planning for a casual day with your best friends or a night out on the town with your squad, below are six different 21st birthday outfits to wear on your special day.

6 Different 21st Birthday Outfits To Wear On Your Special Day

    1. Outfit #1 – Birthday Party Outfit

Your 21st birthday definitely deserves a celebration, and what better way to celebrate than with a party in your honor?!

There couldn’t be a more appropriate dress for the special occasion, considering this pink frock is literally called the “Birthday Cake” dress. With its layers of mesh ruffles, deep V halter-neck, and open back, this pink mini dress is as sweet as its name suggests!

Glam it up with some satin rhinestone ankle-strap pointed-toe pumps featuring rhinestone bows. Since the pumps have silver details, opt for silver jewelry that also has a girly coquette vibe, like these adorable silver bow earrings.

Bring the look together with some sparkly pink lip gloss, like Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Lumizer in a shimmering soft pink hue.

    2. Outfit #2 – Dressy Outfit

For your birthday you may be going somewhere fun that has a bit of a fancier dress code, or you just want to be a little “extra” and steal the spotlight. This 21st birthday outfit is going to help you do just that!

Go for the gold with this gold sequin fringe mini dress that was made for dancing the night away. Its bands of swingy, sequin fringe will move with you throughout your special night, and its sparkly gold metallic color is guaranteed to attract attention.

Accessorize with equally glam and golden accessories like some gold teardrop earrings and a tennis bracelet with diamante details that looks expensive but is actually budget-friendly.

These gold strappy heeled sandals are fancy, but their stylish sculptural heel actually provides some stability compared to stilettos, making them a smarter footwear choice.

Complete the ensemble with an ecru mini bag — this one has both a top handle and a chain crossbody strap, so that you won’t need to worry about misplacing it during your night out.

    3. Outfit #3 – Birthday Dinner Outfit

A lot of times people choose to go to a nice restaurant for dinner for their birthday. If this is what you are doing, you could consider wearing a cute two-piece set!

For example, this burgundy corset top and coordinating maxi skirt are made with satin fabric that makes them look dressy, and the burgundy hue is especially on-trend this season. You can also consider wearing a two-piece set with pants, or a full jumpsuit.

Add in trendy, eye-catching accessories like a leopard print mini handbag (with a crossbody strap, of course), large gold hoop earrings, and a corded necklace with a gold heart pendant.

Some clear nude mule heels will look seamless with this ensemble, plus they’ll match just about everything in your wardrobe, making them a worthwhile purchase.

    4. 21st Birthday Outfit #4 – Casual Outfit

Keeping things casual on your twenty-first? No worries! You can still look cute while being laid-back. (And even if you don’t have any major plans, you should still put yourself together on your birthday, because when you look good, you feel good.)

Try following the “jeans and a cute top” formula, except consider swapping your everyday jeans out for a denim mini skirt, instead. This looks slightly dressier, while still being casual.

On top, wear something that is a bit more elevated than a basic t-shirt or cami; for example, this floral print tank top with a coordinating neck tie, which is adorable but can be worn day or night.

As for shoes, go for some flat sandals or some cute yet comfy sneakers like Adidas Samba sneakers which come in a ton of different colors — this white and pink pair match the outfit perfectly.

Since this is still your special day, don’t forget to accessorize your ensemble with fun jewelry like these “mismatched” heart earrings and a metal chain belt for added shine.

    5. Outfit #5 – Going Out Outfit

Going out with friends for your 21st birthday is practically a right of passage! If you’re planning on hitting the town (clubs, bars, etc.), you’ll need a show-stopping look that’s going to turn heads, and a sparkly mini skirt is the answer!

A silver sequin mini skirt is a must-have for any extra special events like a concert or your birthday. Since it’s such a bold piece, wear it with something simple yet sleek on top, like a black one-shoulder bodysuit. This one features a silver metal buckle detail that ties in with the skirt’s silver metallic construction.

Make a statement with some black knee-high heeled boots (black heeled sandals or pumps would work, too) and matching silver jewelry, like some knotted earrings.

This chic mini handbag is ideal for a night out, featuring a matching silver handle, crossbody strap, plus “Brat” green for a pop of ultra-trendy color.

    6. Outfit #6 – Sign Night Outfit

Sign night, anyone? A popular thing college girls do for their 21st birthday is a sign night. This is a fun night out where your friends create a sign with a list of 21 things you have to do for your birthday, often involving outrageous tasks meant to create unforgettable memories.

Since this is your big night out, don’t be afraid to steal the spotlight with your outfit! A hot pink sequin mini dress is sure to garner attention (in a good way). It’s a dress fit for a birthday queen!

Speaking of queens, you’ll need a crown and a sash to let everyone else at the party or bar know that you’re celebrating, and this duo is an amazing (and affordable) option.

Be sure to accessorize with a few more sparkly pieces like some silver tassel dangle drop earrings and some silver ankle-strap heeled sandals with rhinestone embellishments for the perfect final touches.

  • Insights On Fall Fashion 2024

    Insights On Fall Fashion 2024

    [ad_1]

I can’t believe I’m saying this either: but it’s time to start shopping for your fall clothes. You’ve probably seen a few fall fashion-focused TikToks…and stores have even started rolling out Halloween candy.

So yes, we’re looking ahead, but for good reason. First, I’m all about getting ahead of the trends. It’s why people buy UGGs in the summer: you can nab all of the good sizes and colors before the latest UGGs are even a gleam in everyone else’s eye.

If you wait until the last minute, chances are that stores are already stocking their shelves for winter…and we don’t have time for that.

This fall’s biggest trend? Skorts. Everywhere I go, I see at least one person sporting a skort. And while I love a good skort, I truly wasn’t expecting it. You can also expect brown — especially orange tones — to be this year’s color of the season.

We’re moving towards menswear again, emphasizing blazers and plaid tweed trousers. The fashion world is partial to softer, more professional-looking clothing after a summer-long soiree of florals and prints.

Even more interesting is the return of the polka dot. Not my favorite trend resurfacing, but a trend nonetheless. Move over garden party florals, here come unironic polka dots! In all forms.

So, if you’re looking to start your shopping a little early but want to avoid scrolling through TikTok to find the answers…here are our fall fashion trends for 2024!

    Neutrals

    Emma Chamberlain via Instagram

While summer 2024 was all about bright colors and fun prints, fall is more focused on neutrals. Since we’re already losing our tans, it can be easy to feel washed out in vibrant pinks and oranges…which is exactly why we’re leaning towards tans and browns.

Whether it’s a top or bottom, basics are essential for a successful wardrobe. If you’ve already built your capsule closet thanks to Hailey Bieber’s advice, or you’re looking to stock up on your favorite tee, make sure you pack in the neutrals so you’ll always have an acceptable outfit. Looking for fun neutrals? Here are my picks:

    Norma Kamali Drop Shoulder Shirt

    GAP Modern Rib Cardigan

Hollister Livvy Ultra High Rise Linen Blend Wide Leg Pants

    SNDYS x Revolve Cassis Skirt

    Chunky Sweaters

fall fashion trends 2024Matilda Djerf via Instagram

Think oversized cable knits and sailor sweaters. There’s nothing that screams fall more than a sweater you’re basically swimming in. Even though it’s still summer through most of September (and the weather reflects this), I start building my sweater collection early.

This year, I’m loving the retro bell sleeve style to truly get the most comfort out of your sweater style. Look out for notch neck collars and rugby-style sweaters as well. I love a good chunky sweater, here are my faves:

    Everlane The Cocoon Crew

PISTOLA Alpine Cozy Crew Neck Sweater

    Free People Easy Street Tunic

    Tuckernuck Beechwood Crewneck Sweater

    Polka Dots

fall fashion trends 2024Kendall Jenner Vogue ITALIA – Mert Alas

As I mentioned earlier, this one’s a bit weird for me to bring up. Definitely not my favorite trend. In fact, it’s one I think we’ll regret. But I digress, to each their own.

Expect to see a plethora of polka dots on dresses, shirts, pants, skirts — even sweaters! — this year. To my eyes, they’re not flattering and a bit childish. And reminiscent of my kindergarten teacher or a nasty matriarchal nanny in movies. Regardless, some influencer will somehow convince everyone to wear polka dots soon enough, I fear. If I had to wear polka dots, I’d wear these:

    Jenni Kayne Sawyer Blouse

    RIXO Ardith Skirt

    SNDYS x Revolve Chloe Dress

    English Prep School

fall fashion trends 2024Paige Desorbo via Instagram

With trends like Quiet Luxury and Old Money aesthetics continuing to surge — thanks to the likes of Sofia Richie — may I introduce the English prep school style? It’s exactly what you’d imagine: blazers, corduroy, tweed, ties, button-downs, equestrian style.

Think of Bella Hadid’s recent equestrian outfits or Sofia Richie’s preppy looks. The idea is to look polished, a tad collegiate, and super studious. Almost as if you have a library date, or you spend your weekends reading Jane Austen. My favorite British boarding school pieces are:

    SNDYS Hills Blazer

    SNDYS x Revolve Emiliana Top

    Camila Coelho Mireia Tailored Jacket

    Sheer and Lace

fall fashion trends 2024Kylie Jenner via Instagram

Another trend I’ve seen a lot is a dark, romantic vibe. Textures like lace will be popular, or darker floral patterns. Gobs of gothic inspiration, yet with hyper-feminine features that help the piece pop.

Lace bodysuits, appliqued dresses, and more will be popular this fall. You’ll see lots of sheer layering, some rich jewel tones like emerald and ruby, and a touch of velvet. The dark romance theme is akin to royalty: luxurious fabrics, intentional draping, and deep hues. If you want some sheer style this fall, here are easy options:

    Majorelle Ann Mini Dress

    NIA Lace Madrid Tank

    Topshop Lace Tiered Maxi Skirt

    That’s A Wrap!

fall fashion trends 2024Hailey Bieber via Instagram

No, the article isn’t over…I’m talking about the return of the wrap. Whether it’s a wrap poncho, coat, dress, or scarf, the wrap is back. And I’m here for it!

There’s nothing more chic or sassy than draping a simply gorgeous scarf around your head and shoulders when the temperature drops. I’m also loving the poncho style this fall, expect to see many more of these to pop up in stores. Here are my picks:

Barefoot Dreams Cozychic Diamond Weave Blanket Scarf

White and Warren Cashmere Travel Wrap

BHLDN Rue Semi Sheer Pashmina Wrap

Even four years on from its viral takeover of the internet, Hill House Home’s famous Nap Dress still reigns supreme as one of summer’s most quintessential styles. The comfy frock first earned its status as a wardrobe staple during the pandemic, when the dress — beloved for its lived-in silhouette and universal ‘fit — was lauded for the way that it could make anyone look pulled together and polished in an instant (even if they were just lounging around at home).

Before long, nightgown-esque dresses started popping up everywhere — on red carpets, runways, and even styled on some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities. With the help of shows like “Bridgerton” and TikTok trends like cottagecore and the coquette aesthetic, the gown has continued to find new life in younger generations.

And while other brands have attempted to replicate the magic of the Hill House nap dress, few have delivered a style quite as versatile — in fact, that’s the story with most of Hill House Home’s offerings. The label has developed a reputation for its wide array of functional and timeless pieces, which are designed with all types of occasions in mind; imagine clothes that are made to be worn from your bed to the beach and beyond.

Anne Hathaway — ever the fashion icon — recently made the case for one of the brand’s other prominent styles when she donned the Hill House Home Azalea Nap Top ($98) and Hill House Home Delphine Nap Skirt ($128) while vacationing in Capri, Italy.

Hathaway’s matching ensemble features a bright, red-orange coloring with delicate eyelet details and a sleeveless top. While her exact set has since been upgraded to include scrunched straps — and now comes in a variety of other color options — you can still shop her breezy summer look for under $200.

Whether you’re looking to take a style cue from the star or simply want to upgrade your late-summer wardrobe, we rounded up the best pieces to shop from Hill House Home’s bestsellers page ahead — including the cult-favorite nap dress. From a long-sleeve maxi dress to a mini dress with puff sleeves, these are the pieces you’ll want to live in this season — and well into the next one, too.

31 Fall Midi Dresses: From Milkmaid & Denim Styles To Plaid & Leopard Prints

    [ad_1]

Many summer dress styles can transition from summer to fall, but keep an eye out for fall-appropriate fabrics, sleeve-lengths, colors, and prints. Right now, you can find milkmaid dresses in trending leopard print rather than dainty florals, drop-waist dresses in earth tones like green and mauve rather than pastels, and shirtdresses in bold plaid rather than gingham. Look out for midi styles in slightly heavy knits, denims, poplins, and corduroy, too.

  • I’ve scoured the internet and these are the 43 most stunning wedding guest dresses on the market

I’ve scoured the internet and these are the 43 most stunning wedding guest dresses on the market

    [ad_1]

Searching for the best wedding guest dresses is a stressful ordeal, no matter the time of year, because while it may be someone else’s ‘big day’ that you’re attending, you still want a few compliments yourself – right?

Finding the right frock(s) can sometimes feel like a never ending and overwhelming task, but, in order to gain that ‘best dressed’ title, it’s a necessary one. So what is there to consider? First; you need to nail the wedding dress code. Is it black tie? Casual? A garden-type affair? Next; is the dress in question too short? Is it versatile enough for you to want to wear it again? Is it too bold?

Luckily, there is very little in the way of a wedding guest dress rule book – other than no white, obvs – but what type of dress is best for a wedding guest? Our top tips are; don’t outshine the bride or bridesmaids and try not to opt for something you’d wear on a night out (i.e. anything too revealing) – grandparents will likely be present, remember.

SKIP TO: How we chose the best wedding guest dresses | Shop the best wedding guest dresses.

The best wedding guest dresses according to GLAMOUR editors:

    1. Best floral wedding guest dress: Watercolor Floral Blue Slip Dress, WAS £225 NOW £157.50, Farm Rio
    2. Best pink wedding guest dress: RENTAL AJE Capucine Puff Sleeve Midi Dress, from £74.17, HURR
    3. Best bright wedding guest dress: Bow-Detail One-Shoulder Dress, £44.99, H&M

It’s always wise to consider the season, too. There’s nothing worse than donning a long-sleeve wedding guest dress in the summer and feeling too hot for it, and a spring wedding guest dress in the winter and freezing to death.

If you’re worried about budget, there are also plenty of affordable wedding guest dresses on the high street that look endlessly more expensive than they actually are, so you needn’t spend a fortune, and you should always shop your own wardrobe first. Don’t stress about buying a wedding guest outfit on top of a wedding gift and hen party look when you probably already own exactly what you’re looking for. That said, there’s plenty of inspo below if you really can’t find a thing…

How we chose the best wedding guest dresses

We attend at least two weddings a year at GLAMOUR, and there’s around 30 of us, so, although our expert status is self-proclaimed, you could argue it’s totally justified. We know exactly what’s trending because we’re looking for it ourselves, and we know that budget is as important as style. You can read more about how we test here, and get our full verdict on which frocks to shop ahead.

Did Carole Middleton send a secret political message with her election day outfit?

    [ad_1]

On Thursday, the fabulous Carole Middleton looked incredible as she headed to the fourth day of Wimbledon.

WATCH: Everything You Need To Know About Carole Middleton

The mother of the Princess of Wales looked impeccably stylish as ever, donning a stunning white floral dress, which she teamed with a white blazer and low block heel pumps, as well as chic shades.

    © Getty
Carole Middleton looked amazing at Wimbledon wearing a Cefinn dress

The mother-of-three’s dress actually came from Cefinn – Samantha Cameron’s fashion brand. Samantha – who many affectionately refer to as Sam Cam – is married to David Cameron, who served as the UK prime minister for six years from 2010. He, of course, was the head of the Conservative Party.

Was it poignant that Carole chose to don this dress on July 4 – UK election day? Who knows!

Cefinn is a hugely popular designer brand and one that Carole has worn before, just like her daughter, so it may just be a total fashion coincidence.

    Carole and Kate twinning

Carole often wears brands that her royal daughter covets. Last month during Royal Ascot, the 69-year-old looked fabulous in a dress by Self-Portrait. Kate has consistently been wearing that brand for many years, so it’s a great choice for the wife of Micheal Middleton.

As well as having a penchant for the same brands, the pair have actually worn the same dresses on a  few occasions, too. One of Kate’s most well-known pink dresses was a stunning shirt dress by ME+EM she first wore back in 2021, and again at the Chelsea Flower show in 2023. The pretty style was a pleated number that featured a cinched waist and buttons all the way down the front.

The year after the royal first wore it, Carole headed to Royal Ascot in 2022 and put her own spin on the sophisticated look as she chose the same frock but switched it up with completely different accessories – dressing it with a fancy black fascinator and matching handbag.

The current bestselling dresses at Free People are appropriate for a range of events — which is no surprise, since summer is the time for stacked calendars. From flouncy beach minis and everyday shifts that can be thrown over a bathing suit or sports bra, to free-flowing maxis with that signature, vintage-inspired bohemian spirit, the styles really run the gamut. But after combing through the reviews on all of them, we’ve narrowed it down to eight top-rated looks that are also dispersed by price point and should get you the most bang for your buck.

Not only will these dresses get tons of wear this season, they’ll also bring on the compliments from passersby, as well as fellow guests at the party. Another common trait? They can all be dressed up or down — so, for example, you could wear the flouncy Selkie x FP corseted mini bare, accessorized with just heels and a statement necklace, or you could layer it over a white tee with rolled sleeves and finish it off with high-tops, reveling in the ultimate ’90s moment when you hit the streets.

Ahead, read why these eight dresses are our favorite options from Free People right now, and pay close attention to customer feedback, which may tap into important information regarding sizing, length, or the sheer factor of certain materials.
