  • Kaia Gerber reveals nude photos of mom Cindy Crawford lined the walls of her childhood home

Kaia Gerber is shedding light on her totally “normal” childhood as the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford.

Gerber, 24, revealed her upbringing was “pretty isolated,” but “in a really great way,” telling Harper’s Bazaar things were “as normal as it could have been.”

“I always went to public school. I did theater. I did every community play. I was in choir. I did singing recitals. I danced,” she explained.

While she described her upbringing as “book heavy,” Gerber was also surrounded by something most kids aren’t — nude photos of her mother. According to the “Babylon” star, photos of Crawford naked lined the walls of their home.

“They were, to me, artistic,” Gerber explained. “It wasn’t vulgar; it wasn’t objectification.”

She called it “a gift to grow up in a house that was without shame for the female body.”

Gerber explained her childhood changed at age 15 after she was handpicked by Donatella Versace to appear in the first campaign for the designer’s childrenswear line years earlier. At 15, Gerber took on homeschooling due to her modeling career as she chose to continue following in Crawford’s footsteps.

The actress, who stars in “Palm Royale,” explained she never felt coddled by Crawford.

“She doesn’t give out advice unless you ask,” Gerber said. “But if you ask, get ready, because she’ll be very honest in ways that, sometimes, it’s hard to hear,” Gerber says. “She’s usually right, which is infuriating, but she’s also very willing to let me make a mistake that she made 30 years ago.”

Gerber made her official runway debut at age 16 and has since walked for major fashion houses, including Chanel, Versace, Prada and more.

WATCH: CINDY CRAWFORD SHARES THE BEST ADVICE SHE GAVE HER 2 KIDS

Crawford shared the best advice she’s given to her kids during an interview with Fox News Digital at the second annual WWD Style Awards.

“The best advice I can give both my kids, whether they’re modeling or another job, is be on time,” the supermodel said.

The 59-year-old star also shared how she stays confident as a model.

“Oh jeez, I think a lot of it’s just faking it, honestly, but I think if you are happy in your life, if you’re doing work that you love, if you have a purpose, and then, at a certain point, like, someone asked me, ‘How do you get the confidence to walk down the red carpet?’

“And sometimes you don’t, but once you walk out the door, you make the decision. So, you just have to go with it,” Crawford added. “And I think the fact that I’ve lived here so long and I’m really part of this community now, like, I’m running into a lot of old friends and that makes it fun as well.”

Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber proved that off-duty model looks run in the family.

On Saturday, Crawford and Gerber attended the 2025 LACMA Art + Film Gala together in Gucci gowns. Gerber stunned in a red sequined gown with her hair styled in waves and adding statement earrings.

Crawford, 59, wore an embellished off-the-shoulder gold gown and styled her hair similarly to her daughter’s. The former supermodel completed the look with a pair of black, pointed heels and a gold watch.

Growing up with famous parents, Kaia weighed in on the “nepo baby” conversation – the term short for “nepotism babies” – during a 2023 interview with Elle magazine. “I won’t deny the privilege that I have.”

“Even if it’s just the fact that I have a really great source of information and someone to give me great advice, that alone I feel very fortunate for.”

“My mom always joked, ‘If I could call and book a Chanel campaign, it would be for me and not you,’” Gerber quipped.

“But I also have met amazing people through my mom whom I now get to work with.”

Gerber began modeling at the age of 10 when she landed a campaign for the Versace children and juniors line, Young Versace. When Gerber was 16, she made her New York Fashion Week debut, walking for Calvin Klein’s Spring 2018 collection in September 2017.

  • Tory Burch Hosts a Book Party for Kristina O’Neill and Laura Brown

    [ad_1]

Cindy Crawford, Laura Dern, Monica Lewinsky and Uzo Aduba gathered on Rodeo Drive to toast Kristina O’Neill and Laura Brown’s empowering release

Her last store party in Beverly Hills turned into the dance party of the year. And on Thursday, Oct. 23, designer Tory Burch once again brought out an impressive group of friends — this time to celebrate Kristina O’Neill and Laura Brown’s new book, All the Cool Girls Get Fired: How to Let Go of Being Let Go and Come Back on Top.

The front of the Rodeo Drive flagship hosted something of a fashion show with the arrival of guests — who included Cindy Crawford, Laura Dern, Rebecca Gayheart and Max Greenfield.

After mingling over Champagne, spicy margaritas, sliders and fries (served in paper cones printed with quotes from the book), partygoers assembled around the stairs — where Kiernan Shipka, Janicza Bravo, Bella Heathcote, Lake Bell, Monica Lewinsky, Jurnee Smollett, Santigold, Uzo Aduba and Zoey Deutch stood in a line.

First, Burch kicked things off. “I’m sure everyone in this room either has been fired, was almost fired or should have been fired,” she said. “It isn’t the end — it’s just the beginning of something smarter, cooler and much much bigger.”

Then author Brown took the mic. Now the founder of LB Media and the chair of (RED)’s Creative Council, she’d once been fired from her editor-in-chief role at InStyle magazine. Friend O’Neill, now the editor-in-chief of Sotheby’s Magazine, previously lost her EIC job at WSJ Magazine

“We know that in the creative businesses, oftentimes you’re judged on how you perform — there’s work, there’s no work,” Brown said. “The thing to really believe in all the time is yourself.”

Then, the women lined up recited passes from the book.

Shipka kicked things off. “So, you got fired — laid off, let go, reduced, restructured, canned, shit-canned,” she read. “Or if you want to spin it (and we don’t suggest you do), you ‘left.’ Well, welcome to the party, baby!”

“Hello, I’m Janicza,” said Bravo, donning Tory Burch’s deconstructed satin skirt and cuffed cotton shirt with the peep-toe Mary Jane ballet and pierced calf hair handbag. “I’ve been fired, and I’m so grateful for it!”

“I’m Lake … and I’ve also been fired,” echoed Bell, before launching into her passage. “So why should getting fired define you? Why should you let it? … Do not attach your value to where you work. Your value lies within you. Read this in a Brené Brown voice.

Lewinsky got the biggest applause when she prefaced her reading with, “Hi, I’m Monica. I don’t want to show anybody up, but I was fired from the White House.”

Zoey Deutch, Jurnee Smollett and Monica Lewinsky

Lewinsky, wearing a Tory Burch silk bow blouse and wrap skirt with a pierced suede bag, then read: “Being fired is a universal experience and one of the greatest equalizers, because everyone feels the same: like shit.”

“Hi — I’m Zoey, and I’ve also been fired,” began Deutsch, who wore a Tory Burch half-zip wool sweatshirt and Japanese jersey sweatpants with the Romy shoulder bag and pierced heeled ankle boot. She then read a quote from Carol Burnett: “My advice for women who’ve been fired: It’s not over. There are other mountains to climb and other things to do to win.”

“It’s amazing that so many people have been fired!” exclaimed Santigold before reading a quote from Oprah that she said was relevant to her firing experience.

    Uzo Aduba

Adubo finished things off. “Life is short,” she read. “Whether you leave an unfulfilling job or are dumped right out of it, remember you have regained the most important thing: your independence. Now take some time to sit on that beautiful beach you’d barely noticed, and lean out.”

Guests left with a copy of the book, released Oct. 14 from Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books.

  • Kaia Gerber is the spitting image of mom Cindy Crawford for New York date night with Austin Butler

Kaia Gerber is the spitting image of mom Cindy Crawford for New York date night with Austin Butler

    [ad_1]

Kaia Gerber enjoyed a rare date night with boyfriend Austin Butler on Thursday July 11, with the pair hitting Broadway for the opening night of the production of Oh Mary!

Kaia, 22, is the youngest daughter of Cindy Crawford and a blossoming actress, and she was the spitting image of her mom as she wore a cropped black top with flutter sleeves and a gray-stripe midi skirt paired with knee-high boots. Her long brunette hair was tousled and tossed over shoulders, recalling Cindy’s iconic looks of the 1990s.

Oscar nominee Austin, 32, could be seen matching his girlfriend with a gray tee and black pants, and they kept a tight hold of each other’s hands as they left the theater.

Oh Mary! is a dark comedy starring Cole Escola as Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination in 1865.

Kaia and Austin first sparked romance rumors in late 2021 and went public with their relationship in March 2022. They have kept things mostly private, with the Bottoms actress not walking the red carpet in June for Austin’s new movie The Bikeriders.

But she was in attendance, and was seen cheering him on not far away nonetheless, with the pair caught sneaking in a quick kiss before heading into the theater.

Austin and Kaia made their first major public appearance as a couple at W Magazine’s annual Best Performances party on March 24, 2022, and in May they attended that year’s Met Gala together.

She also went on to support Austin during his promotional campaign for the Baz Luhrmann Elvis biopic, including attending Cannes Film Festival.

Cindy’s daughter Kaia is following in her mom’s footsteps with her successful modeling career

Kaia’s career began as a model at the age of 10; she is also the first model born in the 2000s to have achieved ‘The Big Four’ of Vogue covers (American Vogue, British Vogue, Vogue France and Vogue Italia).

She made the switch to acting at the age of 15 starring in her first show, Sister Cities. She has gone on to star in Apple TV+’s new comedy series Palm Royale, the 2023 comedy Bottoms, and American Horror Stories.

Kaia’s brother Presley is also a model, and he made his runway debut at the age of 16 in Moschino’s 2017 Cruise show, and since has walked for the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana and Balmain. Their father is Rande Gerber.

  • Does George Clooney Use Weed

    Does George Clooney Use Weed

    [ad_1]

He is one the most famous global faces and is connected to tequila – but does George Clooney use weed?

Despite not having a hit movie in over 10 years, George Clooney is one of the planet’s A-listers. Mingling with royalty, the power elite at Davos, political heavyweights in the US or just hanging with other celebrities, Clooney is everywhere. When he married is wife Amal, the international media went wild with non stop coverage.  But while he is seen as being tight with tequila, does George Clooney use weed?

RELATED: Why You Should Be Mixing Your Cannabis Strains

Moving past his career in entertainment, he has become a fixture in the media. He weighs in on politics, promotes stylish living, and birthed a profitable tequila company. Clooney was hanging with friends, including Cindy Crawford’s husband Rande Gerber, and backed into launching Casamigos Tequila. While in Mexico they drank a lot of tequila and after trying a wide variety they decided to make their own. Diageo bought the company for a cool $1 billion. Diageo has also invested billion in marijuana.

Marijuana has many benefits, it can reduce stress from all the media following you. It is also healthier than alcohol, and doesn’t have the same bloating as booze. So it would make sense some celebrities would embrace the herb.

While world famous, Clooney is also very private. Prior to his marriage, he could be very coy about his private life. He came out of the closet as hardy tequila drinker when he launched his own brand. So it should be no surprise, it had to leak out he seems to be a big fan of magical green plant.

While filming Ocean 12, a cannabis cafe owner in Amsterdam recognized Mr. Clooney as a frequenter at his establishment during the time of the location filming in Amsterdam.

Diageo has a major stake in legalization with billions invested in the industry.  It seems Clooney doesn’t mind speaking out on politics, maybe Clooney could be an advocate cannabis for all, especially patients and veterans.

  • Kaia Gerber Didn’t Realize How “Iconic” Mom Cindy Crawford Is Until About a Year Ago

Kaia Gerber Didn’t Realize How “Iconic” Mom Cindy Crawford Is Until About a Year Ago

    [ad_1]

Kaia Gerber knew when she followed in mom Cindy Crawford’s footsteps and started modeling she’d have some big shoes to fill. It wasn’t until last year, however, that she really understood how massive those designer stilettos were.

In an interview with WSJ. Magazine, published Tuesday, Gerber revealed that watching the 2023 Apple TV+ series The Super Models, which chronicled the histories of Crawford and fellow “supers” Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista, opened her eyes to what a trailblazer her mother was in the industry she’s now a part of herself.

“I was starstruck in front of her after,” she said. “I was like, ‘I didn’t realize. I knew you were iconic, but….’ I didn’t understand when I was younger.”

While Gerber has been modeling since she was a child (and has now added acting and book club curation to her resume), she said that she was impressed by her mother’s success “coming from a very different background than I did.”

“I thought it was so cool that she always had that ambition, and she did things where people told her, ‘This will ruin your career. Don’t do this,’” Gerber said. “And she trusted her instincts.”

With her supermodel mother and her father, Rande Gerber, who co-founded the Casamigos tequila line with George Clooney, Gerber knows she’s a nepo baby and is thankful for it.

“I don’t think it’s a topic that will go away, so I’ve clearly reached a point of acceptance,” she told the magazine. “I personally am very aware of all the wonderful things it has done for me, and I would never, ever say anything negative about it, because that is my truth about it.”

Plus, while parents typically love giving their kids advice on dealing with school, friends, romance, whatever, 22-year-old Gerber is in a position to get expert-level tips from people at the top of her industry—who just so happen to have raised her.

“I can actually ask my parents advice on career things, on business things,” she says. “That’s very rare, to have parents who are in the same industry or career as you, whose advice you actually can trust.”

The '90s Were the Best Decade for Airport Style—These 8 Chic Outfits Are Proof

    [ad_1]

Chalk it up to the ’90s being a huge part of my formative years, but I believe that that particular decade was one of the most stylish to date. While I usually enjoy perusing red carpet photos or editorials from the ’90s, there is one other photo locale that never disappoints when it comes to great fashion inspiration: the airport. I live in casual-cool outfits, and this is where celebrities tend to shine in that department. In fact, if you have an upcoming trip planned, I highly recommend taking a look at some of the best airport style of that time.

There are a plethora of chic ’90s airport looks archived on the internet, but I narrowed it down to eight that are classic and effortless yet spot-on with the current trends. These ensembles—from the likes of Kate Moss and Jennifer Lopez—would seriously look right at home now in the terminals of some of the most stylish cities in the world. Think straight-leg jeans, sleek boots, cool outerwear, and much more. Keep scrolling to see each airport outfit, and be sure to bookmark this page for any future travel plans.

Cindy Crawford Has Been Wearing This Exact Outfit Combo Since 2004

When it comes to her denim choices, Cindy Crawford has been remarkably consistent over the past 20 years. Trends have come and gone at a rapid pace over the last two decades, but Crawford has remained loyal to one style in particular: boot-cut jeans.

This week, Crawford was photographed wearing her go-to outfit: a white blazer and dark-wash boot-cut jeans. In fact, a bit of photo research led me to two other examples of her wearing the exact same combo, one back in 2004 and one in 2015. If this doesn’t prove that this outfit combination is timeless, I don’t know what will. Scroll down to see how Cindy Crawford styled boot-cut jeans across three different decades.

  • This Fashion Month Belonged to ’90s Supermodels

This Fashion Month Belonged to ’90s Supermodels

    [ad_1]

Fashion’s first supermodels aren’t going anywhere. For a few years now, brands have enlisted the original ’90s supermodels — from the smiley Christy Turlington to the perpetually chic Kate Moss — in their runway shows. This past fall 2023 season, however, was especially focused on bringing back the industry’s most famous faces, honoring their careers and contributions to fashion as a whole. The recognition is well-deserved, of course, but what makes this the right time for such a resurgence?

The obvious answer is the new Apple TV+ docuseries “The Super Models” — a shiny exploration into the illustrious careers of Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Turlington. With recent fashion seasons criticized for leaving behind its mainstays for industry outsiders and influencers, nostalgia is somehow a timely solution. This resurgence has also perhaps been brewing since Versace brought together five ’90s icons for the grand finale of its spring runway show in 2018.

This year’s shows also lifted up their legends: Campbell graced several runways, even debuting her own 70-piece collection with PrettyLittleThing. That’s not to mention her happy front-row reunion with Moss at the Fendi show during Milan Fashion Week. Claudia Schiffer, meanwhile, closed the Versace show in an homage to the late Gianni Versace, as she was one of his original muses.

Edward Enninful, British Vogue editor in chief, also recently brought the supers together for his very last September issue. “What better way to celebrate than with four women who have, over the course of more than three decades, come to define the very idea of fashion itself: the original supermodels,” he wrote. The cover story went on to point out these women’s “rock star moves,” with Campbell speaking out about racial discrimination, Evangelista breaking records with Steven Meisel, and Crawford seamlessly navigating the tumultuous road from modeling to television. Without social media, they accrued supermodel status simply by acting like superstars.

Advances in social media prompted major — and debatably unwelcome — shifts in the cultural zeitgeist. Now, with fashion influencers facilitating major sales, the front row might look a little different than it used to. “Why spend money promoting on a billboard when you don’t know who’s driving past that billboard?” fashion content creator Ellie Zeiler prompted HuffPost in 2022. “You can just hire a fashion influencer and know that people are specifically going to that page for fashion content.”

Still, it’s a tough sell. If everyone has a platform, everyone has the chance to make it into Fashion Week, undermining the industry’s historic exclusivity. Think pieces debating whether or not influencers are ruining fashion for good only reemphasize this point. While publicists might be dealing with an increasingly flooded inbox, the fashion world was long overdue for a change.

Despite it all, the supermodel title transcends. Bringing the legends of the early aughts back to the runway signals a longing for the glamour of pre-social-media runway culture. In combination with the increased inclusivity made possible by the influencers of today, fashion might be on to something really super.

The Most Iconic ’90s Outfits in VMAs History

    [ad_1]

After a dearth of red-carpet events thanks to the ongoing SAG strike, I’m absolutely looking forward to the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday, September 12. While every decade has had its fair share of iconic looks at the event, the ’90s take the cake in my opinion. When else could you see Pamela Anderson in a gigantic pink hat, Destiny’s Child in matching sherbert-hued looks, and Gwen Stefani in a furry bra?

Below, I rounded up my favorite ’90s looks in VMA history. Here’s a hint of what to expect: The Spice Girls in their prime, Madonna in an elaborate costume for a performance, Jennifer Lopez in a sparkly top, and Cindy Crawford in a thoroughly modern outfit that could have been worn yesterday. Scroll down to revisit the most iconic looks from the MTV VMAs.

Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford Agree These Jeans Are Best With Ballet Flats

    [ad_1]

When it comes to style inspiration via celebrities, you can rest assured that you’re in good hands with supermodels. The supermodels I’m referring to in this case are Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss, two of the most eternally chic women on the planet. Coincidentally, both women stepped out in similar looks from opposite sides of the pond this week, and they answered an important style question you may have: What are the best jeans to wear with ballet flats?

According to both Crawford and Moss, the answer is cropped straight-leg jeans. Crawford wore her pointed-toe ballet flats with cropped white jeans and a lightweight button-down blouse while Moss wore her traditional black ballet flats with cuffed jeans, and a leather jacket. It makes perfect sense that they’d opt for cropped jeans, as ballet flats have very thin soles and long, baggy jeans tend to swallow them up. You’d be wise to follow the OG supermodels’ lead. Scroll to do so by shopping cropped jeans and wallet flats that I highly recommend.

    [ad_1]

Iconic supermodel Cindy Crawford took to Instagram Thursday to share a snap featuring glistening curves and plump mounds of flesh pressed together, cleavage aplenty that surely made mouths water and thumbs pause in their scrolling.

We agree: It was a very nice photo of a handful of perfectly ripe blackberries. It makes getting those K and C vitamins in seem infinitely appealing, not to mention the benefits that the fruit’s fiber provides.

She also shared a shot of herself topless in a hot tub, gazing out at a lake.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Crawford, 57, simply captioned her carousel “lake life,” gently drifting into the August weekend on the full wave of her thirst trap. Pardon, thirst traps: there are those blackberries, of course, they won’t be soon forgotten, but Crawford also posted a selfie in a bikini top and button-up shirt, strategically revealing a swath of chest with a string of beads finding a natural point to rest.

The model appears on the just-released cover of the September issue of Vogue alongside Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington, the cohort who defined high fashion and the supermodel look in the ‘80s and ’90s.

Crawford has previously talked about learning the ins and outs of social media with her also-supermodellic 21-year-old daughter, Kaia Gerber.

“Like anything, there’s good and bad sides to it,” she said. “The good thing is you have direct communication with your audience. The bad thing can be, it’s a lot of pressure and you see a lot of snarky comments on there.”

Thankfully, we have Crawford out here to tell us directly about the greatness of peak berry season, and the importance of having access to at least two bodies of water to luxuriate in at all times.

As a muse to some of fashion’s most legendary designers and photographers, Cindy Crawford no doubt has every luxury brand on speed dial. But when she’s not walking a runway or red carpet, Crawford’s style is more relatable than you might think. Case in point? She just wore a low-key outfit while grocery shopping in Malibu.

Crawford wore the Birkenstock Madrid Big Buckle Slide Sandals ($140) with white jeans and a basic crew-neck sweater, resulting in an easy-to-copy outfit perfect for running errands. I particularly love that the Birkenstock sandals Crawford wore come in six colors and boast rave reviews on Nordstrom’s website. Keep scrolling to see Crawford’s casual outfit and shop her exact sandals.

The Classic Shoe Trend Every Stylish Celeb Wears at the Airport

    [ad_1]

When it comes to airport style, I am all about outfits that are comfortable without sacrificing style, and the shoes are the key component for accomplishing this. Heels are a hard no in my book, as well as any other shoes that make for a complicated run through the security line. This leaves flat shoes like loafers, ankle boots, sneakers, and my all-time favorite: ballet flats. While ballet flats truly never go out of style, they are currently at the forefront of shoe trends at the moment.

I know I am not alone in this preference as evidenced by the many stylish celebrities that are spotted traveling in the timeless flat shoe style. Besides the ease, they instantly elevate even the most basic of outfits. Just don’t forget to pack a pair of socks in your carry-on to save you from a grimy barefoot walk through security. Ahead, check out 11 inspiring celebrity airport looks with ballet flats. Plus, shop some of the chicest options at the moment.

  • Kaia Gerber Has Main Character Energy

Kaia Gerber Has Main Character Energy

Kaia Gerber swears she’s a small-town girl at heart. Sure, the town happens to be Malibu, the fertile ground that also brought us the Hadids. “When I say it’s a small town, people laugh,” Gerber says, “but it really did feel like that. Same kids from preschool till you graduate. So it really expanded my world by an infinite amount.”

“It,” if you somehow don’t know by now, is modeling, which served as a kind of turbo exchange program for Gerber, rocketing her onto runways in all the major fashion capitals. It’s a far cry from her reality today, which is a pure portrait of domestic bliss. Ensconced in an oversize beige sweater, a dog by her side, she’s cocooned in her L.A. living room. Her supermodel mother, Cindy Crawford, is downstairs watching TV. Imagine the Cleavers, if they all happened to be stunningly beautiful.

I tell her I interviewed Crawford years ago at a restaurant and still think about the collective aftershock when she walked in. “Yeah, the sea parts,” Gerber says knowingly. “Especially when I started modeling, everyone would be like, ‘Oh my God, your mom is so iconic,’ and I’d be like, ‘She’s my mom.’ ”

Despite their strong resemblance, Gerber’s aura feels a little quieter, more like a peaceful ripple. Perhaps that’s because lately, she’s been taking it easy—exploring new sides of herself, with acting roles in two hotly anticipated projects, a book club, and a whole lot of self-reflection. Thomas Wolfe titled a novel after the idea that you can’t go home again, but Gerber seems to be proving that wrong—returning both in the geographic sense, and to herself. She tells me that when she first came into the crosshairs of model-off-duty style, “I put a lot of effort into it. Then I realized I want to be comfortable. If you’ve seen me anytime in the last two years, I’m most likely wearing sweatpants, because my priority is just somewhere else now.” You get the feeling she’s not just talking about fashion: “I’ve gone back to who I am at my core.”

ELLE You grew up modeling. What was that like?

KAIA GERBER I’m only 21, and I feel like I’ve lived a whole life already. Having the opportunity to travel taught me so much from such a young age. I got this really amazing education. I have this catalog of images that has recorded my growing up. You’re growing, and you’re changing: your body, what you like, your taste. Being surrounded by so many creatives shaped my taste. I’m very much an observer, and I retain a lot.

ELLE There’s this sense of, “Models are all out to get each other. People are tripping each other on the catwalk,” because that’s what you see in pop culture, but it seems like you have a lot of friends in that world.

KG I fell into the trap of believing that. Especially at that time, I was really shy. I kept to myself, and I was nervous. You’re coming from high school girls who are so scary, and so I assumed that that would be the culture. I got lucky meeting incredible people from all over the world who took me under their wing. I felt so much comfort in having this family away from my own family.

ELLE Was there advice your mom gave you starting out that stuck with you?

KG Be on time. Take the time to learn people’s names, and be nice to everyone. If you’re not grateful and happy to be there, there’s someone who would be. Even when I was really tired, or wanted to go home, or felt lonely, I would remind myself how lucky I was. Another thing she told me is, “I wish I had written more down,” because you think you’re going to remember these amazing moments forever, and one day, it’s hard to even know what shoot that was, where it happened, and when. And so I wrote it down; I journaled.

ELLE You’re a face of Celine. What has it been like working with [Celine artistic director] Hedi Slimane?

KG I’ve been aware of him for so long. When I was in high school and he was at Saint Laurent, he would hang out around Malibu and street-cast people from my school. Getting to work with him has been a dream. He’s everything that you’d hope he would be, but oftentimes people aren’t. He takes the time to get to know you. He has a way of turning you into the best version of yourself.

For so long, I felt like as a model, I was playing these different characters, which was really cool, and I still like doing that. But I think now, because I get to do that in acting and that’s my primary focus, I appreciate when I feel seen by someone as me, the person. I wasn’t ready for that when I was first modeling, because I didn’t feel fully formed. Now I feel more myself.

ELLE What’s it been like letting your personality shine through more?

KG I mean, it’s scary. People were like, “How do you deal with rejection in modeling?” and I was like, “Honestly, you don’t take it personally,” because it’s so subjective, and they weren’t rejecting anything about me as a person. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt at times, but it was easier to take. It can be scary to show yourself, because it opens you up for criticism and for people to not agree with you and not like you, but I think I just came into myself more. I was like, “No, I do have a point of view, and I have things to say.” You accept that not everyone is going to agree with that, but I don’t need that anymore.

ELLE How has your personal style evolved since you entered the public eye?

KG I remember the first time being like, “Oh, people care what I’m wearing.” That wasn’t how I felt growing up. In Malibu, people didn’t wear shoes to school.

ELLE And now there are Instagram accounts that chronicle everything you’re wearing.

KG And I was like, “What?” My job is a job where you go and change out of your clothes. So I’m like, “Why do I have to put on jeans to take them off again?”

“I’m such a comedy nerd…When you see me looking angry on a runway, you wouldn’t assume there’s much of a sense of humor in there.”

ELLE You shot a movie, Bottoms, directed by Emma Seligman and costarring Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri.

KG I was a fan of Emma because I saw Shiva Baby, and I was like, “No one has ever done anything like this. It’s so funny, and sad, and real, and touching.” She has such a strong point of view, and I just, immediately, was like, “What else is she going to do?” Same with Rachel. I just thought she was so good in that, and funny, and real. I’ve always loved her stand-up. Same with Ayo. I was a fan of her stand-up. I’m such a comedy nerd.

ELLE That’s not something people necessarily would associate with you.

KG I go to comedy clubs all the time. It’s my favorite thing to do. I was intimidated getting to work with Rachel and Ayo, but they were so welcoming. I feel so honored that I got to be a part of that movie because I think it’s really special. I think it’s going to shock people in a good way.

    CASS BIRD

ELLE You mentioned letting people see more of the real you. Do you think this is going to change the way that people see you?

KG I think so. When you see me looking angry on a runway, you wouldn’t assume there’s much of a sense of humor in there. My character is nothing like me as a person at all, but I do think people will respond well to the jokes that are being made. It’s very of its time and very meta.

I think also a lot of queer stories and films can be really sad, and a lot of the [real-life] stories unfortunately are really sad. But to bring light to a situation and be able to find humor in it, that’s why I love comedy. It helps me laugh about things that sometimes are really difficult and hard to laugh at. While it’s dealing with heavy topics, it also has a humor about it.

ELLE The concept is “lesbian Fight Club.”

KG We’re throwing punches. We got to do stunt training, which was very cool. I think people are like, “Oh, cute. A little girly fight club.” No, it’s a real fight club.

“My personal life and my mental health are not something I’m willing to sacrifice for my job ever again.”

ELLE You also have an upcoming Apple TV+ series, Mrs. American Pie, with Laura Dern and Kristen Wiig. And Carol Burnett makes an appearance.

KG I have no idea what I’m doing there. It’s ridiculous. Carol Burnett made me understand comedy in such a different way. I never would’ve dreamed that I’d get to work with her. I still can’t believe it happened.

a white brunette woman stands on a beach shoreline wearing an american flag gown

ELLE Is there a literary heroine you’d want to play onscreen?

KG Patti Smith, with Just Kids, fully changed my life. And Joan Didion. I’ve read everything she’s ever written. I watched her documentary a million times. She has this quote that really resonated with me, about wanting to know where the pain is. I found that—not running away from your feelings—through her.

ELLE You started a book club on Instagram Live during the pandemic.

KG When people come up to me and tell me that they follow my book club, it’s the highest compliment. I didn’t think people were going to respond the way that they have. People are like, “You got me into reading again,” and I’m like, “If I can give the world one gift, that could be it.” It’s on hiatus, but definitely not done.

ELLE Would you ever want to write a memoir?

KG Yeah. I have collections of different essays and things that I’ve written. They’re not super narrative-based and mostly about feelings, but I was looking through them the other day, and I was just like, “I don’t know what I want to do with these, but I’m just grateful that I have them.” I would love to do a column or something one day to just share my brain, but it also can be quite intimidating because I know how tough the literary world is, and I’m scared of it.

ELLE I’m curious about your thoughts on books as accessories. There was an interesting article in T: The New York Times Style Magazine about a book stylist for celebrities.

KG Oh, this is not a thing. This is not a thing.

    ELLE Oh, it’s a thing.

KG It’s like a stylist, but for books? They’re not necessarily reading them, is that correct?

ELLE They are carrying them. They can read them. It helps get the author’s name out there, but it’s also a weird thing to see it as this consumer product.

KG Getting people to read, no matter how you do it, is very cool. But how can you promote something that you don’t fully understand? I would never tell people to read a book that I’ve never read. I’ve had people be like, “Do you really read the books you carry?” I was like, “Would I be carrying a book that I haven’t read?” I always have a book, because in the job that I’m in, you wait around a lot. I cannot be on my phone. Social media makes me anxious when I spend a lot of time on it, so that’s why I escape into books.

ELLE You were at home with family during COVID. Did that period of slowing down cause you to reflect more?

KG Honestly, it came at a time when I really needed it, and it was a really difficult time in the world, but I really had reached a point where I just felt like I was falling out of love with it, and I didn’t know that you could ask for a break. I was forced to stop, and I realized how badly I needed one. When you’re being told what to do every day, you don’t have time to sit and reflect. But I had gone through so many changes and had so many massive things happen to me over the years that I was modeling. I had four or five years of processing to do. I felt so lucky that I got to be with my family because I’d spent so much time away from them, and I realized I had so much guilt about missing birthdays and things. I had been traveling since I was a teenager, and so I got to develop an adult relationship with my family.

ELLE Now that you’re back in the world, and you’re on these sets, how are you protecting your mental health?

KG I developed so much deeper relationships in my life, and also a connection to myself. When you’re forced to sit with yourself, all of a sudden, you’re aware of all the stuff you haven’t dealt with. There wasn’t communication happening between me and myself, and I felt out of body sometimes. Once I developed that, I was like, “This isn’t something I want to give up.” My personal life and my mental health are not something I’m willing to sacrifice for my job ever again. Right now, I’m getting to work at home, which is a beautiful thing, and not traveling all the time. I come home, and I’m with my dog. I have friends, and I’m cooking dinner. I see my therapist, and I see my family.

ELLE In modeling and also in the celebrity world in general, there’s a lot of conversation lately about people having an easier time getting into the industry because of a family member. Do people sometimes make assumptions about how you got here?

KG I won’t deny the privilege that I have. Even if it’s just the fact that I have a really great source of information and someone to give me great advice, that alone I feel very fortunate for. My mom always joked, “If I could call and book a Chanel campaign, it would be for me and not you.” But I also have met amazing people through my mom whom I now get to work with.

With acting, it’s so different. No artist is going to sacrifice their vision for someone’s kid. That just isn’t how art is made, and what I’m interested in is art. Also, no one wants to work with someone who’s annoying, and not easy to work with, and not kind. Yes, nepotism is prevalent, but I think if it actually was what people make it out to be, we’d see even more of it.

ELLE You’ve posted about the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and you attended Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. How do you decide what to speak up about, and what you want to share?

KG What I’ve learned is, the most important thing is to understand it. Do your research; know what you’re speaking out about. Don’t just repost, because the spread of misinformation is becoming a huge problem and can do more harm than good. I think for a long time, people were afraid to speak out about things because people weren’t going to react well, but silence speaks so loudly now.

When I see people with a platform not using it the way that they could, it makes me upset. I don’t expect everyone to have the same opinions about things, but I think that there’s so much good that can be done with this platform. So many people spend so much time complaining about fame. But you can also do something so incredible with it. I’ve seen firsthand that actually, you can make a difference. You can change people’s lives, and to not take that opportunity would be silly and make none of it worth it for me.

Sure, Kaia Gerber’s modeling career is white-hot right now, but let’s not forget about Mom. Cindy Crawford continues to serve style inspiration well into her 50s and I have a feeling her streak will continue indefinitely. Another OG supermodel, Christy Turlington, has also been on my radar again lately thanks to several fantastic recent outfits, so I decided to whip up a little guide to dressing like them.

Naturally, both Cindy and Christy are pros at giving us range. They can pull off red-carpet minis just as easily as laidback denim looks—and there’s a 10 out of 10 chance I’ll want to copy whatever they’re wearing. Celine brings rock music element into Hollywood fashion show

    [ad_1]

LOS ANGELES — Celine brought a new line of fashion into the Hollywood spotlight in front of a star-studded audience while infusing rock music into designer Hedi Slimane’s “Age of Indieness” show Thursday night.

The fashion brand’s show at iconic Los Angeles landmark The Wiltern theatre introduced glitzy black and gold gowns, faux fur coats, slim leather pants along with gold-button jackets and coats. Each model walked down the runway to the beat of The White Stripes’ rock-infused “Hello Operator” while displaying the latest collection from the fashion house.

The co-ed runway graced the eyes of several celebrities and entertainers including Cindy Crawford, Doja Cat, Brie Larson, Justin Hoffman, Paris Hilton, Kid Cudi, Paris Jackson, Ava Phillippe, Wiz Khalifa and Courteney Cox. Crawford watched as her daughter, Kaia Gerber, strutted in a glittery gold dress.

Slimane incorporated men and womenswear. Some of the pieces worn were red blazers with gold trims, high-heeled black leather boots, black suits and gold feathers hanging from jackets.

Once the show finished, Slimane briefly marched onstage holding Gerber’s hand, waved and took a bow at audience members – mostly dressed in black – who stood and applauded his fashion efforts.

The fall/winter fashion show ultimately turned into a big party in the lobby area as attendees were served food and drinks before being graced by live performances lasting a couple hours in the theater.

A night centered around rock aesthetics was wrapped up with performances by Iggy Pop, The Strokes, Interpol and The Kills.
