“Tonight is my last sportscast here at KPRC2,” Alexander said. “It’s been a great six years in Houston.”

A seven-time Emmy award winner, Alexander continued Saturday by acknowledging the highs of the job and the stories he’s been able to tell along the way, including the 2022 Astros world championship and the Texans’ 2019  trip to London to face the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“This city and its people have meant an immeasurable amount to me,” Alexander said. “When I came here, I knew one or two people and I just wanted to fit in, wanted to do an outstanding job. And over the past six years I’ve gotten the privilege to tell the stories of the athletes, the coaches, the people of Houston.”

Born in Ukraine, Alexander arrived in Houston after stints in Tucson, Ariz., and Memphis, Tenn. While in Houston he met his wife, Ashley, and has interviewed such Houston notables as Bun B and Paul Wall. In his sendoff Saturday, he mentioned that teenage Ari would be jealous hearing about his adult experiences chatting with rap luminaries.

Alexander’s exit comes just days after Chron reported Nick Mantas of KSAT 12 in San Antonio was joining KPRC as a sports anchor and reporter. Mantas will start at KPRC at Sept. 2, seemingly positioned as Alexander’s replacement.

Houston’s TV stations have experienced several other changes recently, including the CW39 Houston departure of anchor and reporter Seth Kovar and arrival of meteorologist Allison Gutleber from Portland, Ore.
