  • Is this viral moisturiser really worth the hype?

    [ad_1]

Phone, card holder, keys: The items you’ll never catch me leaving the house without…those and a healthy amount of Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream all over my face, of course.

I have acne-prone skin, but I’m also simultaneously combination-to-dry – an odd mix, I’m aware. That means however, when I do find a moisturiser that works for me, it becomes my holy grail, and that’s exactly how I feel about Magic Cream.

I’ve been wearing it daily for the past seven years now, ever since I stepped into the fashion industry really, and I think it might be my desert island item.

    SKIP TO & FAQs:

Magic Cream review, at a glance…

    How I tested:

My skin type: Combination-dry and hormonal acne-prone.

I’ve been ‘testing’ Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream for almost a decade now – which is more than enough time to give a fair verdict I reckon. I’ve worn it on makeup-free days while working from home and running errands as well as beneath full-glam looks while attending events/weddings/date nights. I’ve also tried it alongside the rest of my skincare routine (read: after a cleanser and toner, and before or sometimes after facial serums), to see if it pilled or reacted in a different way each time.

    Before and after pics:

Image may contain: Bottle, Cosmetics, Face, Head, Person, and Perfume

    Charlotte’s Magic Cream 50ml

    Why you can trust me:

While my area of expertise mainly lies in fashion, being a senior shopping writer means I also know a thing or two about beauty (see here for my Light Salon Boost review – one of the best LED face masks on the market – for proof). I have to say I’m fairly fussy when it comes to skincare, unless I see immediate results I lose interest and am unlikely to re-purchase, so when I do ramp and rave about something you can rest assured it’s because it’s a mainstay in my beauty bag.

    About Charlotte Tilbury

Hopefully by now Charlotte Tilbury needs little to no introduction – even if you’ve been living under a rock. One of the leading brands in the global beauty and makeup sphere, it’s a name you’ll hear (and see) on the lips of celebrities like Kate Moss, J-Lo, Amal Clooney and – the most recent face of the brand – Celine Dion.

Founded in 2013, it’s most celebrated for its Pillow Talk collection and Magic Cream. The invention of the latter all came about when Charlotte herself was a backstage makeup artist. She was renowned for using her own secret concoction on model and A-lister’s faces to instantly revive their dull, dry and tired skin.

“I created my iconic Magic Cream to prime skin too, so that makeup glides on flawlessly, looks more beautiful and lasts longer – I never do makeup without it!” She says. Neither do I, Charlotte.

    The formula:

Image may contain Person Skin Baby Body Part Hand Wrist and Finger

    Charlotte’s Magic Cream 50ml

As a fairly thick emollient, Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream is ideal for those with dry skin like myself. That said, if you’re on the oilier side (or have sensitive skin to fragrances) you might be better off trying the Magic Water Cream or steering clear entirely. It’s not for everyone, but those that love it will struggle to find anything better. Trust me, I’ve tried.

What’s in Magic Cream? The ingredients…

    • Hyaluronic acid: A humectant produced naturally by our body that can hold up to a thousand times its weight in water (AKA, great for hydration).
    • Rosehip oil: Rich in vitamin F for a cushioning effect.
    • Oat extract: Contains loads of alpha-glucans.
    • Frangipani flower extract: Gives that delicate scent Magic Cream is renowned for.
    • Vitamin C: Brightens complexion.
    • Vitamin E: Evens skintone.
    • Peptide complex: Plumps.
    • Aloe vera: Calms.
    • Camellia oil: Provides that dewy finish.
    • Shea butter: Nourishes and softens.

    My experience & final verdict:

The blend of antioxidant-rich Rosehip oil and oat extract softens and smooths the feel of my skin and lifts the look of my facial contours which, in turn, is what creates that perfect base for foundation, bronzer, blush etc to sit atop. I will say I’ve found I’m better to apply it at least 10 minutes before, though, as it can pill if I don’t let it soak in properly – especially if I use anything water-based on top.

  • You Need Simone Biles’ Go-To Makeup Products

You Need Simone Biles’ Go-To Makeup Products

    [ad_1]

With the wrap up of the 2024 Paris Olympics, no more
Love Island USA, and last year’s Writers’ Strike finally catching up to us, there’s quite literally nothing left to watch on television these days. I’ve rewatched all the reality TV shows we know and love, I’m caught up on everything, and I’m fresh out of fresh content.

Which means I still have my eye on
the Olympics…because it hasn’t been that long, right? With the closing ceremonies on Sunday, August 11, it’s only been a few, endless days without a meme-able moment from our favorite world-class athletes.

And at the forefront of Olympic stardom is Team USA Gymnastics. Headed by one-of-one Simone Biles, the gymnastics team is generationally talented. They’re always a favorite to watch, especially when GOAT Biles is performing.

But it’s not just Biles who has stolen the world’s hearts…Olympic athletes like Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey are all beloved names. Let’s not forget Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade who rose into view as she killed her routines.

The women gymnasts are a marvel who have overcome countless hurdles (literally) to get here…so it’s no wonder why we’re thrilled by them. But there’s something else I noticed: their makeup is always flawless.

Being an athletic performer, you need a makeup routine that will keep your face in place regardless of what you’re doing…even if it’s excelling on the balance beam or during a vault routine.

And forget about Simone Biles’ iconic floor routine…I want to talk about her makeup routine. It looks like something that Patrick Ta crafted. And, thanks to the live coverage of the Olympics, we now have an idea of what magical potions Simone Biles uses to keep her makeup firmly in place…no matter what.

Fenty Invisi-Matte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder

    @mangomoniica Simone Biles touching up her olympic makeup ✨❤️ @Fenty Beauty @Rihanna #fentybeauty #fentybeautyinvisimatte #transluscentpowder ♬ original sound – Monica

What tipped me off immediately was a photo of Simone standing on the sideline before her routine using the Fenty Invisi-Matte powder. And while it most likely wasn’t a sponsored ad, the product placement couldn’t have been more efficacious.

Fenty Invisi-Matte powder went viral during
Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance, where she quickly flashed the product and went right on singing. It was an effortless ad, but effective nonetheless.

But beyond the celeb endorsements, the Invisi-Matte powder is terrific for on-the-go sweat control and keeping your makeup in place. One of my favorites for summer and vacation, the Fenty powder is compact and packs a punch.

Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Sticks

    @westmanatelier Hello cheekbones! Undetectable contour 101 starring Face Trace with @maryphillips 💖 #westmanatelier #contour #maryphillips ♬ original sound – Westman-Atelier

Westman Atelier is worth the price, even if it is a titch pricier. It’s a beloved brand by makeup artists and professionals everywhere. With celeb MUA’s like Mary Phillips often using their stunning sticks.

Simone Biles is no different. Although she uses a lot of
Fenty products — including their foundation and mascara — she leans towards Westman when it comes to blush.

While Simone combines two of the shades for a customizable shade, every hue is packed with pigment and a light shimmer.

Pat McGrath Labs Mothership V: Bronze Seduction Eyeshadow Palette

    In her video with
Vogue, Biles gravitates towards this Pat McGrath palette riddled with bronzy shades that complement any eye color. I’ve tried hundreds of eyeshadow palettes over the span of my lifetime and I have to give Pat McGrath her flowers.

The formula is luxurious, the palette is pigmented, and there’s a good mix of matte and shimmer shades for customizable eyes. It’s everything you need in one palette, with shades that make for both daytime and nighttime looks.

I prefer Pat McGrath over most makeup brands despite the extra cost…we all know how frustrating it can be to spend money on an eyeshadow palette and then it barely shows — or stays — on your lid. Investing in a rich palette that’s backed by rave reviews is worth it.

Not One…Not Two..But Three Setting Sprays

    You
had to know that Simone Biles-Owens makeup was set in stone. After intense demand celebrity makeup artist Alayza Casey revealed Biles’ makeup routine…and to no one’s surprise, there’s a lot of setting spray involved.

Casey used three sprays on Biles’ face: the emblematic
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Spray, Skindinavia The Makeup Finishing Spray, and Kryolan Fixing Spray.

Biles is doing a lot of movement and definitely breaking a sweat, so the makeup simply must stay in place…and instead of championing the setting powder, Casey opts for multiple long-lasting setting sprays that hold your makeup in place all day (no matter what.)

    Hourglass Airbrush Concealer

    @cleangirlhacks Flawless skin 101. #skincare101 #skintok#beautysecrets #selfcareroutine #cleangirl #cleangirlmakeup #haileybieber #clearskin #clearskincheck #clearskinroutine #clearskinhacks #antiaging #antiagingskincare ♬ original sound – Clean Girl Hacks

This is a fan favorite. Everyone who has used this concealer —
moi aussi — has fallen in love with it. I adore how creamy the formula is while still remaining dewy and hydrating.

It gives your under eyes the recharge and lift you need without catching up on all that sleep you’re missing out on. It’s high coverage and easily blendable, with minimal creasing throughout the application.

Seriously, one of the best concealers on the market. Hourglass gets it right every time.

Huda Beauty Lip Contour 2.0 Automatic Lip Pencil

Huda Beauty is known for their lip products, and Casey loves to use the “Rich Brown” shade on Biles. These lip liners are no joke — locking in your lips all day long and never budging.

Yes, these liners withstand sit-down dinners, nights out grabbing drinks with your friends — even dabbing your lips with a napkin won’t budge your liner. It may sound too good to be true, but I’m not being paid to say this — promise.

The Huda Beauty lip products have been tested by millions of people who absolutely love it just the same…But if it’s good enough for Simone, it’s good enough for us.

Charlotte Tilbury’s Mystery Boxes are back – here’s how to get six bestsellers for 50% off

    [ad_1]

Public service announcement: Charlotte Tilbury Mystery boxes are back. If anything’s going to distract us beauty mavens from all the best Amazon Prime Day deals that are currently occurring, it’s this. When else can we snag six whole Charlotte Tilbury products (four of which are full-sized) at 50% off?

ICYMI, throughout the year and usually during sale periods (like the Charlotte Tilbury Black Friday sale, for example), the glow-giving beauty brand drops these now-famous Mystery Boxes. The latest comes as part of Charlotte’s Big Summer Sale – where you can save up to 40% off tonnes of bestsellers and gift sets – and it’s already selling out.

Filled with editor-approved makeup and skincare bestsellers, including a multi-look eyeshadow palette, for just £98, find out everything you need to know about the latest Charlotte Tilbury Mystery box below.

    Charlotte’s Glowing Mystery Box

    Charlotte’s Glowing Mystery Box

    What’s inside?

The box, which is currently discounted from £197 by 50%, features six full-sized and travel-sized products by Charlotte Tilbury. True to its ‘mysterious’ nature, it’s currently unclear which products exactly are included in the deal…bar one. The item we know for sure is included is the Limited Edition Beautyverse Palette which features nine shades that’ll help you create hundreds of looks.

The rest? You won’t know until it’s delivered to your door. Personally, we’re hoping and praying for the Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer and Island Glow Easy Tanning Drops, but either way, it makes for a great gift for her, sisters, girlfriends or mums.

Elsewhere, if you’re after something super specific, you’ll also find things like the iconic Magic Water Cream, Pillow Talk Lipstick Duo, Hollywood Contour Wand Duo and Airbrush Flawless Glow Kit on sale. Dreamy.

What are Charlotte Tilbury’s Mystery Boxes?

Charlotte Tilbury Mystery Boxes aren’t a new thing. In fact, the brand last released a Mystery Box at the back end of 2022, to tie in with their coveted Black Friday sale. As expected, the Mystery Boxes sold out in a matter of days – before making a reappearance in January 2023 due to high demand, summer 2023, and Black Friday 2023. They’ve now returned again for summer 2024, and we couldn’t be more excited.

New to the world of Charlotte Tilbury? You might almost be alone, but let us get you up to speed.

When it comes to creating glowy, Hollywood-inspired makeup, no-one does it quite like the Queen herself. Her career as a celebrity makeup artist has spanned over two decades thus far, and has seen her work with the likes of Kim Kardashian, Miranda Kerr and Nicole Kidman, and create Amal Clooney’s wedding day makeup look. Pretty impressive portfolio, huh?

Charlotte is also famous in the world of beauty for sleeping in a “night eye”. (That’s a full-on smokey eye to you and me; rumour has it, her husband has never seen her without makeup on).

It was ten whole years ago, back in 2013, when she launched her long-awaited namesake beauty line, in a bid to share the bombshell glam-inducing products that celebs and models alike adored with the world. As expected, every product in the range was not only inclusive but created with the aim of serving up glowing skin, kissable lips and shimmering eyes. It has been a winning formula ever since.

  • Get Your Cart Ready: The Sephora Sale Is Coming

Get Your Cart Ready: The Sephora Sale Is Coming

    [ad_1]

When I was growing up, people would go feral for a sale. Black Friday would roll around, and news stations would set up outside Best Buy, Home Depot, and Target to watch thousands of people at 3 a.m. fight for half-off TV.

I was never the type of girl who could endure the mall on Black Friday. My anxiety gets overstimulated in a regular mall on your average Tuesday…what makes you think I could handle the war that once was Black Friday?

So, I’d wait for Cyber Monday. I would do my online shopping in peace, hoping everything in my cart stays in stock until I’m ready to check out. But since the pandemic, in-person shopping is no longer the more convenient option.

Now that online shopping is the norm, sales aren’t exclusive to in-store shoppers. We can enjoy the mall without leaving our homes — and it’s not like I was trying anything on in-store anyway.

So, it all leads up to one of the best makeup sales in the game: the highly anticipated bi-annual Sephora sale. Since beauty products rarely go on sale — yes, that includes luxury skincare brands like Tatcha and even La Mer — Sephora shoppers are graced with a discount up to 20% depending on your membership status.

If you’re anything like me, you take this sale very seriously. It’s a great time to try that viral makeup product you keep seeing on TikTok, or to stock up on your go-to products. And since products sell out very quickly during the sale, it’s smart to have your cart ready for purchase the moment it starts.

When Is The 2024 Sephora Sale?

Starting April 5 – 15, 2024, all products sold at Sephora stores will go on sale. The Sephora Collection itself will be 30% off for everyone – and with great dupes, brushes, and basics, you’ll definitely want to take advantage.

For Rouge members (those who have spent over $1000 at Sephora in a year), all other products will be 20% off. For VIB members, 15% discount. And for your basic Sephora Insider, you’ll get 10% off your entire purchase.

What Are The Best Products To Get At The Sephora Sale?

Now here we are, on the precipice of a mega-beauty sale – where all of your favorite brands are on sale in the same place, at the same time…and you feel lost.

If you’re wondering what beauty products are worth spending the money on…luckily, I’ve tried most of them. I like to refer to my bedroom as a “mini Sephora” because of the sheer number of beauty products I own. If you need it, I probably have it.

Here are some of my favorite beauty products at Sephora right now!

    Carolina Herrera Good Girl Perfume

    Carolina Herrera

The perfume I get complimented on the most. I love the creative packaging, but the scent is what gets me. Floral, sultry, and long-lasting.

    ColorWow DreamCoat

    ColorWow

Whenever I do a blowout with DreamCoat, people ask me if I’ve recently dyed my hair. If you want a no frizz style (even in the summer humidity), this is for you.

    Kerastase Premiere Anti-Breakage Repairing Mask

    Kerastase

Kerastase is salon-worthy for a reason. While it may be on the more expensive side of hair care, it’s genuinely worth it. This will save your damaged hair and bring it back to life.

    Paula’s Choice Liquid Exfoliant

    Paula’s Choice

Say goodbye to blackheads, texture, and breakouts, and hello to glowing, gorgeous skin. It’s a cult favorite, but it’s deserved.

    Summer Friday’s Lip Butter Balm

    Summer Fridays

If you can’t go rhode, go Summer Friday’s. I’ve been using the mint flavor as a clear gloss that’s hydrating and it’s paid off.

    Tower 28 Beauty OneLiner

    Tower 28

An eyeliner and lip liner all in one?! Sign me up. I love these as a creamy lip liner that stays all day.

  • Edgy Innovation—And Pam Anderson—Ruled the British Fashion Council Awards

Edgy Innovation—And Pam Anderson—Ruled the British Fashion Council Awards

    [ad_1]

On Monday night, the Royal Albert Hall in London held the 2023 British Fashion Council Awards, sponsored by jewelry brand Pandora. The annual ceremony is dedicated to celebrating “leaders of change,” and to putting forth a next generation of creative talent in Britain. This year’s ceremony was one of touching milestones: Edward Enninful won the Trailblazer Award for editing British Vogue, as he moves into a global creative role at Condé Nast; Sarah Burton won a Special Recognition Award for her impact at McQueen, which after 26 years, is coming to a close; and Sam Smith paid tribute to the late Vivienne Westwood with a performance of “Unholy.”

Everyone from Anne Hathaway, fashion icon Daphne Guinness, Heartstopper heartthrob Kit Connor, Saltburn star Archie Madekwe, to TikTok’s “Tube Girl” Sabrina Bahsoon—who took her famed video 10 times over—graced the red carpet. (As it was pouring rain, there were as many umbrellas as celebrities; Ted Lasso’s Phil Dunster graciously sheltered this reporter.)

Amal Clooney teed up Charlotte Tilbury—whose mother’s advice to avoid overusing the word “darling” in her acceptance speech she charmingly failed to comply with; Mr. Valentino was introduced by Gwyneth; and Lena Dunham, Dan Levy, Precious Lee, Josh O’Connor, Stormzy, Jodie Comer, Ib Kamara, and Chioma Nnadi all took turns on stage. Maximilian Davis, for Ferragamo, and Martine Rose took British Designers of the Year. New York native Conner Ives won the BFC Foundation Designer. New Establishment Awards went to British-Jamaican designer Bianca Saunders, whose gender-defying tailoring drew the attention of the CEO of Balenciaga, and to Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, the Bulgarian-American and British (respectively) duo who created the cult-status carabiner skirts. Designer of the Year went to Jonathan Anderson, the man behind LOEWE and JW Anderson.

Pamela Anderson, a brand ambassador for Pandora, presented the award for Leader of Change to I May Destroy You and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Michaela Coel, who was there with her (new!) boyfriend Spencer Hewett, a red carpet hard launch confirmed by the couple on social media.

Coel is “using her art to tell stories and to create conversations around a difficult subject where so many things are taboo,” Anderson told Vanity Fair. “She’s very brave, very outspoken, very authentic and honest, and I admire all those qualities.”

Anderson sat down with Vanity Fair at the Lanesborough Hotel ahead of the event to speak more on her partnership with the event’s sponsor. Activism in sustainability, animal rights, and climate change have always been core causes for Anderson, which is why she aligns with Pandora’s use of recycled materials and lab-grown diamonds. Anderson also had a close relationship with Westwood. “We both really resonated with environmental charities and environmental action. Climate Revolution. That was her cause,”Anderson said, adding, “if you were loved by Vivienne Westwood, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.”

And the ceremony ultimately offered hope for the future. Enninful, dressed in Phoebe Philo’s first-ever custom menswear look, closed the night with “Fear nothing. Fear no one. Believe in yourself, and do things your way. I can’t wait to see what you bring into our wonderful world.”

An extravagant after-party celebrating Edward Enninful, hosted at Natasha Poonawalla’s estate, capped off the night. The party opened up into a gilded gold room with a buffet that felt like a scene out of Saltburn. Karen Elson covered Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” and Rita Ora, wearing a scarily realistic chrome spiked spine, also performed, while the fashion world reigned in a night of celebration.

  • Meredith Duxbury just shared what could be her greatest makeup hack yet – and we can confirm, it's genius

Meredith Duxbury just shared what could be her greatest makeup hack yet – and we can confirm, it's genius

    [ad_1]

You may know Meredith Duxbury as the ten-pump foundation queen, but there is way more to the makeup influencer than meets the eye. Her colossal following on TikTok (19M) and Instagram (1.9M) have watched her uncover the biggest beauty finds, mesmerise viewers with her ASMR videos and build an empire off her Get Ready With Me videos.

Undeniably, she’s on the up and up, having been named in this year’s Forbes Top Creators list. But Meredith Duxbury has also faced her fair share of criticism for her makeup techniques. Her heavy, multi-pump foundation method found itself on the receiving end of abuse after users on TikTok criticised the unnecessary waste of product and bemoaned her ‘poor pores’. But, as we chat via Zoom, she offers up a simple solution for the sceptics. “Blending is really key – and working in layers,” she says.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Even so, Meredith is moving away from the foundation ‘caking’ she made so famous. “I honestly grew up hating my freckles until very recently. Now I’ve learned to love them and I’ve changed my perspective on it. That’s kind of why I’ve transitioned a little bit from my ten-pump foundation routine to more of a soft glam look, because I just feel more confident with my freckles,” she tells me.

I managed to catch Meredith in the midst of her getting ready for the British Fashion Awards red carpet, which she was invited to by none other than honorée Charlotte Tilbury. Her brief: “A shimmery eye paired with a really glowy base,” to complement her statement XXL Chopard necklace. Wearing a black Stella McCartney dress, Meredith wanted the beauty and the fashion to marry together immaculately, and that they did.

But as we caught up ahead of the red carpet, Meredith opened up about everything beauty and beyond. Here is Meredith in her own words…

This is probably the greatest makeup hack I’ve learned in recent times.

“Today when I was getting my makeup done, the makeup artist used a powder puff to blend my concealer, which I’ve never seen anyone do, and I would never think to do. I would only use it for powder. I was like, ‘wait, can I try and do it myself’. Then I looked in the mirror and I was blending it out with the powder puff and it was so good. The powder puff doesn’t absorb any of the product and it just blends it in really smoothly. And the concealer had such a nice smooth finish. So if anybody wants an under eye that’s not creased and just super smooth, I would suggest trying to blend it out with a powder puff.”

This British Fashion Awards red carpet look is probably one of my favourite eye looks I’ve ever done.

“Today I did a shimmery eye paired with a really glowy base. The necklace I’m wearing is a very big statement piece from Chopard, so I wanted to compliment the necklace. We used the Charlotte Tilbury ‘The Beautyverse’ Palette, and we did the silver shade all over the lid. Then we did a really sharp black liner. It’s probably one of my favourite eye looks that we’ve done. It’s so gorgeous.”

If I only have five minutes, I’m not skipping my foundation or my lips.

“My base usually consists of the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter and the Kosas Revealer Concealer because it’s a nice soft combination. The Flawless Filter isn’t a full [coverage] foundation, it’s more of a glowy base. Then after I have those on, I’ll go in with the LYS Cream Bronzing stick. I love that product – it’s so good and it blends like butter.”

“My lip is probably my favourite part of my glam routine. I feel like it completes my look and really takes it to the next level. I’ll use the Charlotte Tilbury Iconic Nude Lip Cheat lip liner – it’s my favourite one. I have six of them because I feel like I just leave them in my purses and I’m always reaching for them. Then on top of that, I’ll use my Morphe X Meredith gloss – it’s my perfect lip combo.”

    Charlotte Tilbury The Beautyverse Palette

Kosas Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer and Daytime Eye Cream

Play with glitter, you won’t regret it.

“I think sparkles or glitter can take any look to holiday glitzy glam. If you’re in a rush and you’re invited to a holiday party last minute, literally just swiping glitter onto the eyelid can make it that much more glam. The Charlotte Tilbury palette we used today for my eye look is so beautiful and it’s such high quality pigments as well. That palette is perfect for the holidays because the shimmers and glitter are great.”

I switched up my lip technique to make it sharper.

“I recently found this lip liner technique, which was super helpful to me because I love a good lip liner. Lip liner can be difficult for some people because everybody has a different lip shape. The technique was lining your lips at the corner of your mouth first and you follow right outside the natural lip line up to your cupid bow, then you accentuate your cupid bow. I would usually start at my Cupid’s bow and follow down, but I found with this technique I get a much more natural, defined look and my corners are sharper.”

It’s this kind of honest, relatable advice that helped to uplift Meredith in the first place. And, just to be sure, I tried her ‘powder puff concealer’ trick myself and can confirm, I’m sold. I just wish I’d tried it sooner.

For most people, November signifies the long-awaited beginning of the holiday season, but for those of us whose careers are based in fashion and beauty, this month happens to be one of our busiest. When we’re not tackling our overflowing email inboxes or deep in a writing hole, we’re taking note of the standout products that have defined our year. This time around, I’ve scoured the far corners of social media and took hints from Gen Z to pinpoint the beauty products that no doubt will by flying off the shelves as soon as this year’s biggest holiday sales begin.

It’s almost time for Nordstrom’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday savings event, and I’m beyond excited to get my hands on some high-performing (and, dare I say, aesthetic) products by innovative skincare brands like Sunday Riley and The Ordinary and ultra-luxe makeup brands such as Westman Atelier and Hourglass. • Meet Makeup’s Hottest Brand: Patrick Ta Beauty

Meet Makeup’s Hottest Brand: Patrick Ta Beauty

    [ad_1]

When I’m doing my makeup, I act like I’m filming a Get Ready With Me-style TikTok. I introduce my products to the nonexistent camera and explain my application process to an imaginary audience. My views are always skyrocketing. My subscribers always begging for more. Just ask my fans: I’m the next big influencer

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been watching makeup tutorials since the YouTube days. Yes, when Jeffree Star’s honest beauty reviews were all the rage and people still used the James Charles x Morphe palette. NikkieTutorials and Jaclyn Hill were go-to makeup artists filming “easy” eyeshadow looks that never quite looked the same on me.

Now, the format has been replicated on TikTok. We doom-scroll through TikTok to consume 1-10 minute videos of everyone plugging new products and delving into makeup secrets. This content format is an even bigger marketing tool than we could have ever imagined— one used by celebrities, brand owners, and musicians flock to connect with new fan bases and become the Next Big Trend.

Times may change, but the goal stays the same: achieving celebrity-level makeup. How can I get the cheekbones of Kim Kardashian and the Kylie Jenner ombre blush? How do I make it look like I got my makeup airbrushed on my face?

Enter Patrick Ta: the longtime celebrity makeup artist for the likes of Bella and Gigi Hadid, the entire Kar-Jenner clan, Chrissy Teigen, Emily Ratajkowski, Shay Mitchell, and more. In 2019, after about six years as a MUA in Los Angeles, Ta launched PATRICK TA BEAUTY.

    What is PATRICK TA BEAUTY?

Using formulas that are both good for your skin and perfect for the red carpet in inclusive shade ranges, Patrick Ta has created the beauty brand of your dreams. His makeup is the most viral brand of 2023, with his cream-over-powder blush method taking the world by storm.

I love a good celeb makeup artist’s brand: Mario Dedivanovic’s Makeup By Mario, Patrick Starrr’s ONE/SIZE, Pat McGrath, Charlotte Tilbury, the list goes on. So I don’t know why it took so long for me to do a full haul of Patrick Ta, especially since it feels like everyone has already tried it.

And unlike many celeb brands, it’s not just snake oil in luxury packaging. You actually get your money’s worth with his products — which often come with a powder and cream in one tin. Every influencer out there has raved about Patrick Ta, and for good reason. He even has his own TikTok to show the best ways to use his products. But is it all too good to be true? It was time I tried it for myself.

What Are The Best PATRICK TA BEAUTY Products?

Major Skin Creme Foundation and Finishing Powder Duo

@patrickta Last Glam Of NYFW w/ My One And Only @alix earle Alittle Rushed Too Product Breakdown: @Patrick Ta Beauty ♬ original sound – patrick ta

Not enough is said about this foundation and setting powder duo. It’s a full-coverage foundation in a pan, which already minimizes my waste — and there’s a protective cover over the creme foundation so it’s mess-free. Good enough to cover my imperfections while giving my skin this diffused, airbrushed look…and no primer is needed.

Major Sculpt Creme Contour + Powder Bronzer Duo

@patrickta @Patrick Ta Beauty Looks So Good On @Derek Chadwick ✌🏼 Foundation: Major Skin “Light Med 3” Contour: “Shes Sculpted” Blush: “Shes Flushed” Brows: Brow lamination Gel #mensmakeup ♬ LALA – Myke Towers

Nothing excites me more than contour and bronzer in one product. Contour for sculpting, bronzer for warming the face-up. Easy for beginners, this duo is all you need for a facelift.

It’s Never Too Early To Get A Sephora Holiday Set

    [ad_1]

Okay, I’ll admit it’s way too early to be thinking about Christmas…or is it? It’s almost October already, which is crazy to even think about. Before you know it, you’ll be making your gift lists and budgeting for the ones you love.

To mitigate some of that burden, it doesn’t hurt to get your shopping done early. Which is why brands start releasing their gift sets now so you can plan accordingly. But if you’re not in the mood to start shopping for others just yet, it’s a great excuse for you to sample best-selling products from makeup and beauty brands.

I’ve found some of my favorite go-to products by purchasing these sets for myself…it’s also the perfect time to stock up on your go-to’s because most brands release value sizes of their bestsellers as well. Essentially, it’s an opportunity to replenish your makeup bag and skincare cabinet at a discount.

We all deserve a little treat here and there, which is why I plan on getting more for less. However, not every set is the same. You can get scammed by these seemingly good deals. Some brands (and I won’t name names this time) include sample sizes or minis that actually aren’t worth your money at all.

If you want the best Sephora holiday sets approved by yours truly, here’s what’s on my gift list this 2023:

Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Mini Blush 4-Piece Set

    Rare Beauty

Don’t be nervous about four mini products…the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush lasts literal years and it comes with two in the shades Wisdom and Virtue. Add the two Positive Light Liquid Luminizers in Magnetize and Transcend and you’ll never run out of blush or highlighter.

Olaplex Strong Days Ahead Hair Kit

    Olaplex

With a full-sized Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, and a mini No. 3 Hair Perfector mask, this set saves you over $20. Good for dry, damaged locks, your hair will thank you.

Sephora Favorites Holiday Makeup Must Haves

    Sephora

Sephora really upped their game with the cute makeup bag this year. Plus this set is filled with everything you need on-the-go:

-mini amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo

    -Beautyblender Makeup Sponge

-mini Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray

-Dr. Dennis Gross Extra Strength Daily Peel

-deluxe sized Fenty Beauty Hella Thicc Volumizing Mascara in Cuz I’m Black

  • I Tried Tons of Brown Eyeliners to Bring You the Very Best 10

I Tried Tons of Brown Eyeliners to Bring You the Very Best 10

    [ad_1]

Much like black, brown eyeliner can be applied in a number of different ways. I personally love using a brown pencil or crayon for tight-lining my eyes. I angle the pencil upwards and apply it right into my lash line which helps to add subtle definition and creates the illusion of fuller lashes without it looking like I have any eyeliner on. If you’ve previously found black eyeliner over-powering, but tight-lining with a brown liner has a totally different result which you’ll probably find more flattering.

“The great thing about brown eyeliner is that you don’t have to be too neat and if you want a smoky, smudgy look you can just use a pencil brush to blend,” says Clarkson. She also recommends tight-lining to start with, but for a bolder look she suggests dragging the brown liner into a wing whilst keeping your eyes open to add some extra shape. “If you feel like it adds too much product, instead of applying directly with the pencil, put a generous amount onto the back of your hand and use a small angled brush to apply along the lash line, building it up to your perfect amount.”

Of course, brown eyeliners also come in felt tip pen applicators, which can be used for a more traditional thick line or cat-eye wing. Although this does require a steady hand (and cotton buds to clean up any mistakes!), any error in the shape will be much less noticeable than a black eyeliner would be. Plus, the overall effect will be more subtle.

  • We Know The Next Big Makeup Trend

We Know The Next Big Makeup Trend

    [ad_1]

I always say there are three makeup products you need to have on to feel presentable: mascara, eyebrow gel, and a lippie. Whether your lip product of choice is a matte lipstick, a sheer gloss, or a smudge of liner, my face doesn’t feel complete without some sort of pigment smeared on my lips.

Which also means I’ve amassed an absurd amount of lip products. I fall for every plumper, gloss, balm, glossy balm hybrid, liner, and whatever else the makeup gods come up with. If it’s a rose-nude shade, I’m probably buying it.

And I have no regrets! Why? Because not all lip products are made for the same makeup look. I’m not always in the mood for matte, and lipstick feels like too much of a commitment sometimes. For a more subtle look, I just line my lips and top with a clear gloss.

So, needless to say, my makeup bag is filled with lip liners and glosses galore…and so is my purse…and so are my drawers. I have every product from the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk line, and I’ll never say no to Makeup Forever’s liners. You get the idea.

Lips are my favorite part of my makeup routine. It’s also my job to follow trends and keep you, my dear readers, in the loop. Which is why I had to run and report that the makeup community has a new favorite product: lip blurs.

    What Is A Lip Blur?

A lip blur is the perfect mix of matte, but not as harsh and drying as some formulas can be. And it’s the newest makeup must-have.

Every day, I’m bombarded with promotional emails and notifications telling me that I absolutely
need this new product. But just the other week, I noticed three brands dropped lip blurs in the same week. A little strange for it to be a coincidence and not a new trend.

Apparently, there’s a soft matte makeup trend that is all the rage right now on TikTok…which is absolutely shocking considering how long everyone spent obsessing over
dewy, glowy looks. Cue: the lip blur.

It is meant to “blur” the color onto your lips, attempting to give a smooth look to your lips with a semi-luminescent look. It’s both of the things you love about dewy and matte lipsticks into one. And it’s beauty’s fave product right now.

Charlotte Tilbury has been mixing lipstick with setting powder and concealers with lipstick to create an airbrushed look like the lip blur she just released. It’s the closest thing you can get to Botox without Botox itself, with Charlotte saying,

“It helps conceal texture on the lips, blurs fine lines around the lip area, and gives the illusion of a smoother, fuller looking pout.”

What’s good about the lip blur is that you can use a light amount for a tint of color on your lips, and diffuse it out for a blurring effect…or you can use it like you would any other gloss or liquid lipstick. It’s a super simple product to use, but it gives you the best of both worlds.

What Are The Best Lip Blurs?

If you want the ultimate soft-matte look, here are the best lip blurs on the market:

With hyaluronic acid, olive oil, jojoba esters, and berry fruit wax, Saie’s take on the matte-ish lippie is super hydrating. These moisturizing ingredients will help blur your lips without drying them out, so it’s a comfortable wear.

Like I said, Charlotte has been trying to create the perfect lip blur for years…and she finally did it. It’s buildable, smoothing, and modeled by the gorgeous
Bella Hadid (so of course you want it).

No, not a lip balm, and not just lipstick either. It’s the same creamy, hydrating formula as the other lip blurs, just with a longer name. Long-lasting and full-coverage, this lip blur is amazing.

We Asked the Experts, and These 5 Eyebrow Trends Will Be Huge In 2023

    [ad_1]

Not too long ago, there was a time when your brows needed to be filled in, perfectly arched, and blocky to prove you were up to date on the latest eyebrow trends. Bold brows were everywhere, with multi-step brow routines inspiring a boom in the creation of brow pomades, gels, pencils, and powders.

However, in recent years, makeup trends have evolved toward a more natural-looking approach. Eyebrow trends have followed suit, with fluffy, brushed-up (verging on unruly) brows dominating both the catwalks and our Instagram feeds. “I’ve definitely been using less in my brows, and I know my clients have too,” says makeup artist and brow specialist Lucy Hart. “Brows are definitely a lot softer compared to previous years, and I think for 2023, fluffy, natural brows are here to stay.”

We Tried and Rated 22 Iconic Charlotte Tilbury Products—Here’s the Honest Tea

    [ad_1]

You know you’ve done something right with your face when roughly 12 hours after you’ve applied your makeup, you’re receiving compliments post–sweaty Pilates class. This is a true story, folks, and it goes a little something like this: Once upon a time back in 2012, there was a magical makeup line created by one of the most illustrious celebrity makeup artists in all the land, Charlotte Tilbury. Quite quickly, sparkling members of the A-list, fellow makeup artists, beauty editors, and shoppers aplenty fell under the line’s enchanting spell, declaring their undying love for her wide assortment of cult-loved lipsticks, foundations, palettes, and even a glow-gifting wand or two. Fast-forward roughly nine years, and Charlotte Tilbury’s namesake brand has taken the industry by storm boasting some of the buzziest, most highly applauded products on the market.

And so lies the context for my opening anecdote. The brand, collectively, is known for so many iconic products that my fellow beauty writer Courtney Higgs and I decided to do the ultimate experiment to test out the line’s versatility. We put 22 different products to the test, mixed and matched, on the weekends, on dates, etc. Here, we’re sharing some of our photos, rating every single product we tried, and delivering the tea on what we did (or didn’t) like. And why stop there? As an extra little surprise, we asked Charlotte’s very own niece, celebrity makeup artist Sofia Schwarzkopf-Tilbury, to tell us a little about her favorite products along the way. Keep scrolling!

  • The Ultimate Guide To Drugstore Dupes

The Ultimate Guide To Drugstore Dupes

    [ad_1]

TikTok’s hottest trend has been drugstore dupes for luxury products. Whether that be skincare or makeup, everyone’s trying to save their money on their everyday routines. Blame inflation, blame the job market, but saving money never goes out of style.

And while I’ll fling all my paycheck over to brands like Sunday Riley and Charlotte Tilbury because I love how their products make me feel, I just can’t keep up with my influencer lifestyle. So I must start looking into dupes, but I don’t want to sacrifice quality for savings.

Luckily, drugstore brands like e.l.f. and NYX are cracking down on the luxury beauty market by creating their own dupes. With most of these products you get the same ingredients for about a quarter of the price. And seriously, there’s no difference.

@mualesandro Comparing every product e.l.f has duped! #drugstoremakeup#affordablemakeup#elfcosmetics#dupes#makeupdupe#makeup#BeautyReview♬ Sex and the City (Main Theme) – TV Sounds Unlimited

Who’s going to know if I’m using e.l.f.’s latest moisturizer as opposed to Charlotte Tilbury’s $150 Magic Cream? Sincerely, no one. And who can tell if my lip oil is $40 Dior or $6 NYX?

I’ve been paying close attention to drugstore dupes over the past few months…so if that contour wand isn’t in stock, or you simply can’t afford it, fret not. Here are some brilliant dupes:

A dupe for the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream

    Tatcha

Tatcha moisturizers can cost around $100…and while I love them, no one should spend that much on face cream. People love the plumping and hydrating effect the Dewy Skin Cream has with a blend of hyaluronic acid.

The perfect dupe is the e.l.f. SuperHydrate Moisturizer, which has hydrating ingredients like Squalane and Niacinamide to give you the ultimate radiance. The gel consistency is fabulous for oily skin, and the niacinamide helps control your oil levels so your skin won’t look greasy.

A dupe for Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream

    Lily James

    Charlotte Tilbury

Another $100 moisturizer that works great, but falls short in the money-saving department. With peptides, vitamins C + E, and hyaluronic acid, it fights aging and gives you a great glow. But there’s certainly a dupe on the market that won’t drain your bank account.

The Pacifica Dreamy Youth Day & Night Face Cream contains similar ingredients like shea oil, peptides, and vitamins E and B5.

A Dupe for Sunday Riley Good Genes

    Sunday Riley

Lactic acid and licorice root are the two main ingredients of the famed Sunday Riley Good Genes serum…it gently exfoliates the skin, brightening the surface and reducing wrinkles. It’s the ultimate jack of all trades.

However, a large bottle of Good Genes costs about $110…and for a three month supply, that’s way too much for me right now. But I still crave the same glowy, youthful skin. The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% Serum will help exfoliate your skin so your makeup will go on flawlessly, for only $9.

A Dupe for Sunday Riley CEO Serum

    Sunday Riley

Again, I adore Sunday Riley products but I cannot afford to integrate an $80 serum in my daily skincare routine…no matter how much I want to. The CEO 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum illuminates your complexion and boosts vital skin bounce. Of course I want that same effect but at an intelligent price range.

The INKEY List 15% Vitamin C and EGF Brightening Serum does the exact same thing for only $16. Affordable skincare can be tricky and even cause breakouts, but The INKEY List and The Ordinary are two brands you can genuinely trust to use whole ingredients. And at a fantastic price point.

A Dupe for Charlotte Tilbury Wands

    Charlotte Tilbury

These wands are the hottest product on the makeup market right now. Constantly sold out online and in-store, the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Wands are the It Girl of beauty wands. Easy to blend and apply, with innovative packaging that competitors have been trying to mimic for months.

Luckily, e.l.f. is coming for Charlotte’s neck with their gorgeous Halo Glow Wands. That’s right, their signature blush, highlight, and contour wands are available at the low price of $9.

A dupe for Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter

If you’ve heard of the Charlotte Tilbury wands, you probably know about the equally iconic Flawless Filter. Depending on the shade, this product can serve as highlight, contour, primer, or foundation. It blurs, smooths, and illuminates for an all over glow that is simply angelic.

Although it’s close to $50, people are raving about it. However, the e.l.f. Halo Glow is an exact replica.

A Dupe for Drunk Elephant Bronzing Drops

    Drunk Elephant

Influencer Alix Earle has driven Drunk Elephant D’Bronzi Drops sales. They’ve been sold out for months on end! And now that I just got my hands on a gift set sample, I’ve fallen in love and want a full size. However, the beauty world’s hottest product isn’t always in stock.

Dupes have been matriculating for a while, but I personally recommend the luscious Milani Glow Luminizing Liquid Bronzer. It’s the same summer-y glow, but you can drench it all over your entire body!

Dull Eye Pencils Are the Worst—We Found the Best Sharpeners With Rave Reviews

    [ad_1]

We’re pretty eyeliner obsessed—from the best waterproof liners to drugstore pencils, no liner goes underappreciated around here. But even the best pencils eventually go dull. And anyone who has ever ruined one of their favorites knows that when it comes to eye pencil sharpeners, there is definitely a class above the rest. Not only will a great sharpener keep your pencil pointy and precise, but it also reveals a fresh layer of product, which can help reduce the spread of bacteria.

According to celebrity makeup artist Allie Renee, a great eye pencil sharpener is an unsung hero in your tool kit. “Cosmetic pencil sharpeners are the most sanitary and efficient way to keep your products performing at their best,” she says.

So what separates the good sharpeners from the great ones? I’m glad you asked. “Because pencils come in many shapes and sizes, I like to have a sharpener with two size options,” Renee says. “A sharp blade is a must, too! I also look for something with a housing that can be removed or opened so I can clean it.”

Better yet, even prestige sharpeners tend to be fairly inexpensive. You only have to spend a few dollars for a tool that will last years and that will keep your eye, lip, and brow pencils in fighting form.

Simply put, says the makeup pro, “It’s a must-have in your beauty collection, even if you rarely ever think about it.” If you’re in need of an upgrade, keep scrolling for 10 of the very best eye pencil sharpeners, plus pencils to pair them with.

10 Products To Keep In 2023, 10 Products To Leave Behind

    [ad_1]

2022 brought so many product recommendations my bank account wishes I hadn’t seen. My entire TikTok FYP is filled with makeup routines and the next hottest product. Everyone tells me I need to have this product, so I tell my bank I need to have that product.

I want to feel as confident as a supermodel even if I don’t have the throngs of makeup artists and hair stylists they do. If they’re plugging a product, I’m probably going to try it. But, in the age of the everyday influencer, it’s getting harder to tell what’s a paid advertisement and what’s not.

@thehennaali Save your money 💸 Makeup I will not be buying again! #makeup#makeuprecommendations#makeuphaul2022#makeupreview#ratingmakeup#beautyproducts#antihaul#rembeauty♬ original sound – sophia

That’s right – some videos don’t tell you if it’s a paid promotion when it’s really an ad. Brands are sending free products to TikTok’s finest in exchange for rave reviews – even if the product doesn’t deserve it.

@scortezzbeauty The all time BEST products of 2022 #top5#recommendations#makeup♬ original sound – Scortezz Beauty

Take Bobbi Brown’s clean beauty line, Jones Road, for example. It was hyped up to be the “no-makeup makeup” holy grail until products started rolling out. The foundation ended up leaking oil and separating from the foundation which is a pretty bad sign even if it can be mixed. Several users reported that it separated even while on their faces. It was an overall disaster.

Since the year’s almost over, I’m rounding up all of the viral products I purchased and giving you the low down. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly. We are leaving no stone unturned.

Here are 10 things to keep this 2023, and 10 to leave in 2022:

    The Viral Products That Work…

    1. Paula’s Choice Liquid Exfoliant This BHA/AHA treatment does literally everything. It clears stubborn blackheads and exfoliates all the dead skin cells that clog pores, crack makeup, and give you acne. It’s glass skin in a bottle and if I could take one thing to a deserted island it would be this.
    2. Hero Cosmetics Mighty Surface PatchesYou know about pimple patches, but these surface patches cover way more ground so you can tackle problem areas, not just pimples. I wear these a few nights a week when breaking out and I’m clear by the weekend.
    3. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Balm If there’s anything I hate, it’s dry skin. I tried a retinol that caused my face to shed, and this miracle balm moisturizer healed my skin overnight while locking in my skincare perfectly.
    4. Makeup By Mario Skin EnhancerI’m a Makeup by Mario stan. High quality products that don’t break the bank? Yes please. This is a bronzer used often on Kim K (and me). It blends easier than a normal contour while snatching my cheekbones.
    5. Oribe Supershine CreamOribe can be a bit pricey, but for 10 ounces of incredible product, this is a steal. My hair looks glossy and fresh out of the salon when I use this.
    6. Dior Backstage FoundationIt’s your skin, but better. Dior created a lightweight, glowy foundation that covers redness without caking. At $40, it’s high end without hurting the wallet.
    7. ONE/SIZE On Til Dawn Setting Spray – If you’re tired of your makeup sliding off by the end of the night, this setting spray will do the trick. It mattifies your makeup and makes it completely waterproof.
    8. Olaplex Set I heavily damaged my hair when I bleached it, but consistent usage of the Olaplex line saved my life. It restores the protein in your dry, damaged hair to fully heal it to the cuticle. Keep up with the products and you’ll see results after a few months.
    9. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Liner and Lipstick Charlotte Tilbury took off during the pandemic, but the Pillow Talk line will forever remain my fave. Charlotte herself always says the Pillow Talks are everyone’s perfect lip shade, and she’s not wrong.
    10. Rhode Lip Treatment I didn’t want to love another celebrity product, but this one is worth all the money in my account. It hydrates your lips with peptides and cupuacu while also functioning as a gloss.

…And The Viral Products That Don’t

      1. Haus Labs – Every. single. review. told me that Lady Gaga’s brand would change the way I viewed makeup. So when I ordered the foundation and it dried out on my face and cracked immediately, I was heartbroken. When my roommate got the lip oil and was even underwhelmed, I knew that was enough to leave it.
      2. The Good Patch – Any wellness patch in general, really. The hangover cures never work, and I never feel any calmer when I wear the relaxation ones. It’s a placebo effect waiting in the impulse-buy section – avoid!
      3. Glamnetics Press On Nails – The at home manicure is trending, but these popped off after 12 hours of being on my nails. I don’t want to continuously glue my nails on, so these are a pass.
      4. Charlotte Tilbury Mini Magic Cream – I’ve already voiced my opinions on CT’s mini products being highway robbery. The mini Magic Cream is the size of my pinky, for far, far too much money.
      5. Self Tan Water – I’m sorry, but this is just not for me. I can’t see where the tanner is going on my body, so I end up half-tanned and look ridiculous. I’m sticking with a tinted tanner.
      6. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze – The laminated brow trend is fun, but expensive eyebrow products just aren’t it. I’ve been disappointed by every eyebrow product over $12.
      7. Mario Badescu – I loved the Drying Lotion back in the day when I had a pimple, but it flakes off so quickly and just doesn’t do what a pimple patch can. Most of Mario Badescu’s products are underwhelming for me, so I’m leaving them behind.
      8. Expensive Mascaras – Much like eyebrow products, expensive mascaras have never been worth it to me. I’ll take L’Oreal Telescopic and Maybelline Sky High over a $30 tube.
      9. Benefit Benetint – Not nearly pigmented enough for my blush preferences. I understand wanting the natural look, but this won’t give me much of anything.
      10. Drunk Elephant – While I’m sure their products are great, at this price range there are more reputable skincare brands. I like to keep my skincare affordable, so this is staying in 2022.
