When you start looking for the best paranormal romance books, you’ll find countless sexy, swoony, and even funny love stories, featuring all manner of magical beings. We’ve got the classics, like witches, vampires, and werewolves, plus plenty of others, like merfolk, fae, ghosts, zombies, necromancers, and so much more. These supernatural romance books bring a touch of magic to the romance world, and they’re just a little bit different from a few similar genres.

The closest comparison would probably be fantasy romance, or “romantasy,” which usually brings in elements of the fantasy genre (epic scale, significant world-building, a complex system of magic) and layers those with a significant romance plot thread. For many readers, the line between these books and paranormal romance books for adults is somewhat blurry, but in most cases, the “paranormal” label indicates that you’ll get a heavier focus on the supernatural beings — the vampires, the shifters, and so on — and on the romance, rather than the full-fledged fantasy world-building.

No matter your tastes, there’s definitely a good paranormal romance book out there for you! Some authors prefer to put a rom-com twist on the genre, like Lana Harper or April Asher. Others, like Nalini Singh or Kresley Cole, are mainstays of the genre for their sprawling, long-running series filled with all sorts of sexy supernaturals. Whether you take your paranormal romance with a side of chills or a side of laughs, check out these books to add some magic to your reading.

What makes a great beach read? There’s really no one perfect definition or genre to encompass all these varied, wonderful books. They might be fluffy romances, engrossing adventures, or heartwarming tales of family and history, but they probably won’t be too heavy or demanding — they’re reads for relaxation, above all.

“Cozy fantasy” has quickly become one of the most popular niches in the fantasy genre, and there really is a lot to love about this style. It’s hard to pin down a single definition for cozy fantasy, but in general, it tends to avoid the enormous scope of epic or high fantasy while also steering clear of gritty, urban elements. Instead, these books have a vibe that’s more like your favorite comfort-watch TV show or a warm and cozy sweater, with a softer approach alongside stakes that can vary from small to large. They’re usually focused on familial, friendly, and/or romantic relationships just as much as — if not more than — the actual fantasy elements.

With such a broad definition that hinges a lot on “vibes,” there’s a wide range of books that fall into the cozy category. Found family is a common theme, as in “The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches” by Sangu Mandanna or “Legends & Lattes” by Travis Baldree, while others, like “The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy” by Megan Bannen or “Witchful Thinking” by Celeste Martin, lean more into romance. Grab your favorite warm drink, find your favorite reading spot, and enjoy these cozy fantasy books!

From “House of the Dragon” to “Fourth Wing” and more, dragons are having a bit of a moment in pop culture. These fire-breathing mythological creatures have been a staple of fantasy storytelling for a long time, and it’s no wonder — they’re powerful, magical, and they have enough lore to fit neatly into any story that needs an extra-powerful twist.

Not all dragons are created equal, though, as the wide variety of books about dragons makes very clear. While most books featuring dragons are set in some kind of classic epic-fantasy world, others put more of a quirky twist on the legends. Our picks for the best books with dragons include rich, sweeping fantasies like “Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros and “The Priory of the Orange Tree” by Samantha Shannon alongside more unconventional takes on dragon lore like “When Women Were Dragons” by Kelly Barnhill and “Tooth and Claw” by Jo Walton. Whether you like your dragons scary, silly, or somewhere in between, this roundup of recommendations has something for everyone. Who doesn’t love the idea of a second chance at love? There’s nothing quite as heartwarming as a romantic redemption arc in which long-ago lovers get the chance to revisit what went wrong and try to find their happily ever after again. That sense of hope is precisely what makes second-chance romance such a popular trope in the world of romance books.

Although the basics of the trope are pretty straightforward, different authors handle it in different ways. You might see childhood friends or first loves reconnecting as adults, like in “Seven Days in June” by Tia Williams or “Count Your Lucky Stars” by Alexandria Bellefleur. Some books focus on married couples who may or may not be able to revive their vows, such as Martha Waters’s “To Have and to Hoax” or “The Day of the Duchess” by Sarah MacLean. Others, like “I’m So (Not) Over You” by Kosoko Jackson, bring exes together to pretend they’re still a couple. However you like your second-chance romances, you’ll find plenty to love among these recommendations!

Rossdale, the singer for the band Bush, first met Stefani in 1995. According to Rolling Stone, both No Doubt and Bush were performing at a show for radio station KROQ, and that’s when the future couple first crossed paths. Their relationship continued for several years before they married in 2002.

In 2005, Stefani announced they were expecting their first child in characteristically flashy fashion. People reported that Stefani closed out a concert in Florida by asking the audience to sing along “loud enough so the baby hears it.” She and Rossdale have three sons together: Kingston (born in 2006), Zuma (born in 2008), and Apollo (born in 2014).

After a full two decades, however, the relationship came to an end in 2015. Rolling Stone shared a TMZ report that stated the couple had filed for divorce in August 2015, and in the statement, Stefani cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. The divorce was finalized by the following April.

  • We Can Almost Guarantee You Know of Julia Garner’s Musician Husband, Mark Foster

We Can Almost Guarantee You Know of Julia Garner’s Musician Husband, Mark Foster

    [ad_1]

Julia Garner is one of Hollywood’s brightest stars, thanks to major roles in “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna” that have cemented her in that pantheon. However, though you’ve probably heard of Garner if you’re a TV fan, you may not know her husband, Mark Foster, who is more than just the guy sitting next to Garner at every award show — he’s also a very popular musician.

Foster is best known for being the lead singer of the band Foster the People, which he formed in 2009 with his friend, drummer Mark Pontius, and, later, bassist Cubbie Fink. Over the past decade, the band have released three studio albums: their debut “Torches” in 2011, “Supermodel” in 2014, and “Sacred Hearts Club” in 2017.” “Torches” and its breakout song, “Pumped Up Kicks,” garnered three Grammy nominations in 2012 for the band. He also collaborated with Taylor Swift on “Red (Taylor’s Version),” appearing on the song “Forever Winter (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault).”

According to their wedding profile in Vogue, Garner and Foster met in the most Hollywood of ways: at the Sundance Film Festival one year. Still, it was a surprisingly ordinary connection when they actually got to talking: “In our first conversation, we realized that my grandmother lived in the same small town that his dad lives in, just outside of Cleveland,” Garner revealed, adding that they began seeing each other annually at Christmas in Cleveland for years before they sparked something up.

After dating for less than a year, Foster proposed during a road trip in between their busy schedules in May 2019. “He read me a poem he had written to me, and when he finished, he dropped to a knee and asked me to marry him… It was surreal and beautiful,” Garner told Vogue.

The couple quietly married in December 2019, with a family-only ceremony and a reception with close friends and family. Garner also told Vogue that Foster surprised her with an unusual wedding present: a song written just for her, called “Lovers in a Stream.” “Mark wrote, produced, and sang it. It was very surreal, and the most beautiful present I’ve ever received. It felt like I was floating up in the air — it was the most magical moment I’ve ever had. The only people who heard this song were at the wedding, but it will come out soon,” she shared.

Since then, Foster has been nothing but supportive of his wife’s work, and he’s often been by her side at major premieres and events. He’s also continued to create artistic tributes to his wife, and in December 2021, he celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary with a poem. “Two years ago / our hearts became one / on a cold winter night in NYC / we found warmth / happy anniversary my sweet bride,” he wrote in an Instagram tribute. Ahead, see some of the sweetest photos of the pair together.

If you love books as much as you love movies, then 2023 has been a very big year for you! As much fun as it is to imagine our favorite book characters in our own minds, it’s equally thrilling to see books made into movies.

This year’s slate of books making the transition to the big screen includes a wide range of stories, from new takes on iconic classics to adaptations of relatively recent bestsellers. The coming-of-age favorite “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” for one, hit theaters this spring. The recent string of Agatha Christie adaptations continued with the eerie “A Haunting in Venice,” and Alice Walker’s seminal “The Color Purple” is also getting a fresh take that will translate the award-winning Broadway musical adaptation into a film musical. And, of course, we’ve got the would-be blockbusters, including the “Hunger Games” prequel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” Unfortunately, the one book-to-screen adaptation we’ll have to wait a little longer for is “Dune: Part II,” which was delayed to 2024 amid the ongoing actors’ strike.

The 10 Actors You Always See in Hallmark Channel Movies

    [ad_1]

It’s an honored tradition as old as time (or, at least, as old as cable networks): Hallmark holiday movies. Unlike many other themed producers, though, the network doesn’t limit its “holiday” programming to just winter holidays — you can find movies about Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, and each of the four seasons, plus a handful that are just classic cute rom-coms. No one can match Hallmark in terms of sheer output when it comes to holiday movies, and even after all these years, they’re still coming up with brand new storylines to entertain and delight fans all the way through the Christmas season and beyond. This year’s holiday movie lineup, for example, includes tales about everything from Santa Summits to messy love triangles, all designed to get you into the holiday spirit well before Thanksgiving.

One thing you probably have noticed, though, is that Hallmark often reuses the same actors in several movies. Plenty of actors get their start on the Hallmark channel, but others seem to have found a comfortable niche there, such as “Mean Girls” star Lacey Chabert, who’s the undisputed queen of Hallmark. If you’ve ever wondered who has the honor of starring in the most original movies, wonder no more! We’ve rounded up the 10 most prolific Hallmark actors and actresses — have you seen all their films?

Peter Dinklage Has 2 Kids — Here’s What We Know About His Family

    [ad_1]

There’s a very good chance you didn’t even know Peter Dinklage had kids, let alone how many children he has. The Emmy-winning actor and his wife, theater director Erica Schmidt, have two children, but they’re extremely private about their family, to the point that they’ve never even publicly discussed their children’s names!

    Peter Dinklage’s Oldest Daughter

Dinklage and Schmidt’s daughter was born in 2011, according to Entertainment Weekly. Aside from that, though, pretty much nothing is known about her. Perhaps because of that air of mystery — and the fact that she was born right as “Game of Thrones” turned Dinklage from a character actor to an internationally famous household name — there have been a few odd rumors about her over the years. One such funny rumor: at one point, there were incorrect reports that she was named Zelig. “I don’t care!” Dinklage told The Guardian in 2015 when asked about the rumor and if he wanted to make an on-the-record correction.

Dinklage has admitted to being a protective dad, though. “No, she does not [visit the ‘Game of Thrones’ set],” he told The Guardian. “I am so protective of everything that society has to offer, especially if I am in it. Maybe one day she’ll watch ‘Thrones’. . . She has been to the cinema once and she lasted about half an hour . . . I think she was a little too young. I think Dada was projecting on to her . . . I jumped the gun on that one.”

    Peter Dinklage’s Second Child

In October 2017, Dinklage and Schmidt’s second child was born, according to Us Weekly. Although Schmidt was visibly pregnant at public events earlier in the year, the couple never actually confirmed the pregnancy to any media outlets or via any statements. Us Weekly reported that they were seen at a concert that September, apparently with their newborn baby. Since then, however, there has been no news at all about their youngest child. The couple has chosen to not release any details, not even their child’s gender or name.

  • Zooey Deschanel Thinks “Elf” Is Still Too “Scary” For Her 2 Kids

Zooey Deschanel Thinks “Elf” Is Still Too “Scary” For Her 2 Kids

    [ad_1]

Zooey Deschanel is the proud mom of two kids, daughter Elsie and son Charlie. Both of Deschanel’s children are from her second marriage to film producer Jacob Pechenik; they married in 2015 and separated in 2019. Both Deschanel and Jacob are pretty private about their kids, and when they do post photos of them online, they usually cover up their faces. But Deschanel, who’s been in a relationship with “Property Brothers” star Jonathan Scott since 2019, did open up about her blended family in a June Instagram post for Father’s Day. She wrote, “As a mom in a co-parenting family I am just so grateful for the dads in mine and my kids’ lives! From Daddy(Jacob), to Bonus Daddy (big-dad jonathan), Papa(Caleb) and Grandpa Jim. We are blessed with amazing father figures.”

Scott also opened up about life with Elsie and Charlie in a May interview with “Entertainment Tonight.” “The kids’ dad is a great dad. We have an amazing relationship there as well,” he said. “I love it when the kids draw photos. They draw Mommy and Daddy and Jonathan. It’s really sweet.”

Ahead, here’s what we know about Elsie and Charlie.

    Elsie Otter Pechenik

Born in July 2015, Elsie Otter Pechenik is the oldest of Deschanel and Jacob’s two children and their only daughter. In an October 2015 interview with “Today,” Deschanel elaborated on her daughter’s unique name pairing. “We just really liked the name Elsie and then we both love otters — they’re very sweet and they’re also smart. They use tools . . . they hold hands while they sleep, there’s so many amazing things about otters. They’re wonderful animals,” she said.

Since her birth, Elsie has pretty much been kept out of the spotlight as her parents don’t share many images of her on social media. Her personality, though, is another story: like many parents, Deschanel seems to enjoy sharing adorable details about her daughter in interviews. In a 2019 People interview, for instance, she revealed that Elsie has already developed her own — sometimes stubborn — sense of fashion.

“She likes to put together outfits and she has very distinct opinions on what she will or will not wear,” she said. “It’s very sweet to see her say, ‘I like this,’ or, ‘I don’t like that,’ and express herself in that way.” The one thing Elsie apparently hates wearing? Outerwear! “She doesn’t ever want to wear jackets,” Deschanel added. “So that’s hard in the rain and when it gets cold . . . she just will not wear a jacket. Or a sweater, she won’t wear a sweater even.”

    Charlie Wolf Pechenik

Charlie Wolf Pechenik, born in May 2017, is Deschanel and Jacob’s youngest child and only son. Charlie’s parents kept up the naming trend, giving him a typical first name and an animal-themed middle name just like his big sister.

Not much is known about Charlie, although he was tangentially involved in a minor mix-up that technically had nothing to do with him. In 2019, “The Hills” star Lauren Conrad named her newborn son Charlie Wolf, leading to accusations of copying Deschanel, since it’s not exactly the most common name. Deschanel, for her part, chalked it up to coincidence.

“That was so weird, right? I don’t think she knew it,” Deschanel commented to Us Weekly that October, although she did add that Charlie Wolf “is a really specific name.” Other than that blip, Charlie’s young life has been pretty low-key, just like his sister’s, and will presumably stay that way until he’s old enough to decide if he wants a public persona for himself.

In November 2022, Deschanel did reveal that her kids are still a little young to enjoy her performance in 2003’s “Elf.” “They still usually only watch animated movies. It was a little scary for them,” she told “Access.” The “New Girl” star said she knows it’s not a “scary” film, but for them, the “suspense of Santa, Santa’s sleigh going down,” was too much.

She also shared that both of her kids are super creative. “My son likes to make up dinosaur movies all the time and make up songs. My daughter does too, they both kind of like to make up stuff,” added Deschanel. But even though she’s part of a famous family, the actor said she’s not sure either will decide to follow in their mom’s footsteps. She explained, “I don’t know if it’s just like childhood creativity. You know, we’ll see.”

  • An Overview of Shawn Mendes’s Dating History, From Hailey Bieber to Camila Cabello

An Overview of Shawn Mendes’s Dating History, From Hailey Bieber to Camila Cabello

    [ad_1]

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello first went public with their romance in 2019, and spent the next few years collaborating on music and taking strolls together. They broke up in November 2021, and though the pair appeared to reunite this spring, it seems like they’ve officially gone their separate ways once more.

At least as of June, Mendes seems to be focused on working on himself instead of pursuing a new relationship. “Shawn is still growing and discovering himself. He needs time to himself to do what makes him happy,” a source told People on June 14. “He has a lot more living and learning in his future.”

Mendes and Cabello seemingly struck up a romance after being friends for years and working together on their hit “Señorita.” Before Cabello, though, Mendes was famously quiet about his dating history, preferring to keep his romantic life private — though he did admit to having a fling with Hailey Bieber. More recently, he was linked to Sabrina Carpenter after the pair attended Miley Cyrus’s album release party together on March 9, per People, but he later shut down those rumors. “We are not dating,” he told RTL Boulevard later that month while promoting a collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger. “But I think we should talk about Tommy Hilfiger probably more than Sabrina. But thank you.”
