Pakistan vs England, T20 World Cup 2022: The stage is set for a super clash of titans – Pakistan vs England – at Australia’s iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the T20 World Cup Final. Pakistan trumped New Zealand to reach the T20 World Cup final whereas England defeated India in the second semifinal. The T20 final between Pakistan and England is scheduled to start at 1:30 PM. However, rain may play spoilsport as the local weather department has predicted showers with thunderstorms during the day.

The Bureau of Meteorology in its forecast for today said that there is 100 per cent chance of rain with possible storms. “Cloudy. Very high (near 100%) chance of showers developing during the late morning and afternoon. The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe. Winds northerly 25 to 35 km/h tending north to northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h in the evening then becoming light in the late evening,” the bureau said.

The MCG’s pitch is balanced for both batters and bowlers. Initially, it supports bowlers with good bounce and pace for fast bowlers. As the match progresses, it becomes favorable for batters. However, spinners don’t have much on the pitch. The teams batting second may get an advantage in night games. So far, 60 T20 matches have been played on this pitch. Of these, teams batting first have won 27 times while those batting second have won 32 times – one was tied. The average score for the teams batting first is 160.

The final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will begin at 1:30 pm,  will be televised and live-streamed across continents with the Star Network among the major broadcasters. Star Network will have television rights in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives, while Hotstar and Disney+ will also stream the game in India.    

Pakistan vs England: Players ranked ahead of World Cup

Pakistan dominate the top of the ICC T20I Batting Rankings with star openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, but England’s depth is revealed by having more batters in the top 100. Pakistan’s pace attack is expected to play a key role in deciding the final but England speedster Sam Curran is the only quick from both teams in the top-10 of the T20 Bowling Rankings. 

Curran and Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi each have 10 wickets at the T20 World Cup, while England will hope to have the express-paced Mark Wood available to add to his nine wickets so far. England also have the highest-ranked spinner in Adil Rashid, though Shadab Khan has arguably been the leading turner at the tournament with 10 wickets for Pakistan.

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers said he will predict who will win the t20 WC 2022. “My personal opinion, man to man, England must surely take the Cup home! BUT, the beauty of Sport tells us it’s just not that simple! Gonna come down to who wants it most, along with the rhythm and beauty of the game. Who knows?” he said.
