Axel Springer Closes Telegraph Acquisition
German publishing giant Axel Springer has completed its $761 million acquisition of Telegraph Media Group after receiving regulatory approvals in Britain, Ireland, and Austria. The deal is Axel Springer’s second-largest acquisition, behind its $1 billion purchase of Politico in 2021. The company says it plans to strengthen the Telegraph’s commercial, subscription, events, and premium offerings while preserving editorial independence. Read More (Reuters Rating)
IFCN Mourns Fact-Checker Killed in Lebanon
The International Fact-Checking Network is mourning the death of Alaa Salman, a journalist with Lebanon-based fact-checking organization Sawab, who died after an Israeli airstrike destroyed her family’s home. Salman, a communications and social media student at Phoenicia University, was honored with a moment of silence at GlobalFact 2026. Gray Media Buys Six American Spirit Stations
Gray Media has announced a $50 million deal to acquire six television stations from American Spirit Media, expanding its footprint across markets in Ohio, Mississippi, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, and Louisiana. Gray has long provided back-office services to several of the stations, as well as local news for four of them.
