We’re Cheering For DeathbyRomy & ‘2468!’

2, 4, 6, 8, who do we appreciate? DeathbyRomy, of course! Romy is back to shake up our summer with the empowering ‘2468,’ a celebration of individuality that will definitely make you cheer for her continued success if you aren’t already. The song becomes a battle cry for outcasts as Romy reflects on feeling like she doesn’t belong, ultimately announcing, “WE’RE who we appreciate.”

The cheer theme really helps the main idea hit home – not only because of how many school-set movies and TV shows have a cheerleader in the stereotypical bully role, but also how cheerleading uniforms are often meant to help team members blend together. Throughout the ‘2468’ music video, DeathbyRomy and some fellow misfits trudge through a cheer practice before ditching the usual uniforms and finding outfits and movements that make them feel more like themselves. There’s still that uniformity, sure, but it feels more like unity than simply looking put-together.

‘2468’ is an anthem for the misfits. A chant for the underdogs and the kids who never felt like they belonged. It’s a confident reclamation of our differences and oddities being the most beautiful things about us.

DeathbyRomy

Over the years, DeathbyRomy has racked up a biiiig number of achievements while refusing to compromise who she is or let go of her artistic vision, which is so inspiring to us! She’s not afraid to play with different genres, call out unhealthy dynamics in the music industry (see last year’s HOLLYWOOD FOREVER album and its video storylines as an example), or express herself through unexpected fashion choices. And it’s not just fans who are eating it up, but fellow artists as well – she’s collabed with artists like Ellise and DREAMERS, appeared on the soundtrack for Promising Young Woman, and toured with the likes of The Used and Bring Me The Horizon.

Speaking of tours, we’re soooooo jealous of anyone who’s gonna get to yell “All for one, one for all, I’m the girl who missed the call” along with Romy at one of her shows with Limp Bizkit or on this summer’s Warped Tour!
