A 90-year-old man driving Thursday night in downtown Los Gatos was injured after he plowed his vehicle into a coffee shop, according to the police department.
At about 9 p.m. Thursday, crews with the Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company on Main Street on reports of the crash, police said.
When they arrived, firefighters extricated a 90-year-old Los Gatos man from the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition Friday, police said.
The shop was closed at the time of the crash for the Thanksgiving holiday, and no one was inside. Thursday nights at the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company typically involve live music with standing-room only crowds, residents told NBC Bay Area.
Video shows the crash destroyed the shop’s storefront and significantly damaged much of the interior.
Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, but the incident was still under investigation. It was unclear if police intended to arrest or detain the driver while he recovers from his injuries.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash should contact the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department at 408-354-8600.
