CLEVELAND — As of Saturday morning, tens of thousands of Ohioans are without power, primarily in the northeast portion of the state.
This comes after storms rolled through the area Friday evening and a major heat wave blanketed the state for most of the week.
According to poweroutage.us, there were more than 50,000 customers without power just before 11 a.m. Saturday. The majority of those customers were in Cuyahoga County, followed by Geauga County and then Portage County.
This is in addition to outages that occurred in the area earlier this week. In response to those outages, Lakewood Mayor Meghan George offered some stern words to FirstEnergy, saying their “apathy and neglect” has led to the power grid failing at critical times.
In their own statement, the company said their crews and engineers were “working around the clock to restore service safely and as quickly as possible for affected customers.”
It’s still hot out there, so if you lost power ensure you’re taking the necessary steps to keep yourself safe. Also, be sure to check your local area for cooling centers if needed.
