  • We tried West 7th’s new Irish Pub that serves Irish nachos and Jameson mules

    [ad_1]

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, Henry McCarty Irish Pub has opened in the West 7th Entertainment District.

There’s no sticky floors or rotten wood smell. It may just be the nicest Irish pub Fort Worth has ever seen. It’s dressed with snazzy checker flooring, a dark oak bar (in classic Irish fashion) and leather seating. Even the bathrooms are nice.

The inside of Henry McCarty’s mimics a traditional Irish pub with accents of dark wood, emerald green bar tiles and brass lanterns.

Previous Irish pubs in the area just felt like watering holes that served Guinness (and most bars serve Guinness nowadays anyway). But the Irish theme at Henry McCarty’s is evident, from the classic dark wood pub interior, to the full Irish food menu and variety of Irish beer served in a tulip glass.

In my opinion, the new pub is just as much a restaurant as it is a bar. While you can order wings and a soft pretzel, there’s also complex dishes like corned beef and cabbage rolls or shepherd’s pie. On St. Patrick’s Day, there will be live music, a live bagpiper and shot specials.

It’s hard to miss at 2869 Crockett St. with a large, wrap-around front patio. When you walk in, you are greeted with a “Billy the Kid Wanted” poster, since the bar is named after the American outlaw, whose parents were of Irish descent.

What can you eat at Henry McCarty Irish Pub?

Before you down an Irish car bomb, it’s probably best to have a bite of something to eat.

The menu is very accessible to anyone, whether you want to adventure into traditional European fare or if you just want a good burger or wings.

Henry McCarty’s also serves chicken sandwiches, wings, soups, salads, burgers and steak frites for those who want something more “American.”

For libations, the pub serves draft Guinness (non-alcoholic Guinness bottles are available too), Irish ales, wine and other staple beers. They also offer a full bar with Irish whiskeys and cocktails, like a Jameson mule.

How casual is Henry McCarty Irish Pub?

Henry McCarty Irish Pub is somewhere you can wear your jeans and boots.

While the inside is polished, it’s not somewhere you need to wear a suit. It’s the perfect place to kick back, enjoy a quality meal and good pint of stout.

More about Henry McCarty Irish Pub

Henry McCarty’s Irish Pub is located at 2869 Crockett St. in Artisan Circle.

Their happy hour is weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m. During happy hours, they offer Irish street tacos for $5 a piece as well as $7 appetizers and $5 beers. There will not be a happy hour on St. Patrick’s Day.

VP of Operations Robin Vaughn said the pub plans to block off the majority of Crockett Street for an all-day St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the future. Since they just opened this year, they don’t have enough staff to do so quite yet.

Henry McCarty’s is open daily, Monday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to midnight, Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to midnight. The kitchen is open Sunday through Wednesday until 11 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday until 1 a.m.

  • West 7th will have its fill of Guinness and corned beef at last

    [ad_1]

The West 7th Entertainment District will be complete again with a new Irish pub.

Henry McCarty’s Irish Pub is coming to 2869 Crockett St., a large corner space with a wraparound patio at the circle intersection with Currie Street. The 2869 space has been vacant since 2020, when the previous tenant, Cork & Pig Tavern, closed during COVID-19.

In fact, Irish pubs in the West 7th Entertainment District also have not stuck since the pandemic.

In 2020, the Trinity College Irish Pub opened at the corner of Currie Street and Morton Street and closed briefly during the pandemic. Then, in late 2023 it moved next door, before closing permanently in spring of 2025.

Henry McCarty’s will be the dose of corned beef that West 7th desperately needs. Here’s what we know about the new digs.

  • Witness standing near West 7th club killing victim identified shooters, cops say

    [ad_1]

An eyewitness provided a detective with the nicknames of two shooters who she said fired upon a man in an October killing inside a Fort Worth nightclub, and the identification is among the evidence supporting murder, gang and mass shooting indictments in the case, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The eyewitness knew Patrique Allen, the man who was slain, and was standing near Allen when, she told the detective, she saw a person who she knows as Lil Steppa shoot at Allen. The eyewitness was less certain about the second shooter. She said that he may be a person who she knows as BaBa. The eyewitness later identified photos of the shooters, who police concluded are Akrell Ross and Jason Nash, each from among the images of six people who look similar.

The shooting left a bullet under a couch cushion and ejected cartridge casings in blood under the couch inside Social LIVV, a club on Bledsoe Street in Fort Worth’s West 7th entertainment district.

Allen, an Eastside Gorillas gang member, died in the club. A man and four women who were shot at the same time survived.

Fort Worth Police Gang Unit officers determined that nicknames that were provided by the eyewitness belong to two Crips set members. Nash had been documented as a Glen Garden Hard Head member and Ross was documented as a Five Deuce Hoova member.

An arrest warrant affidavit that the Fort Worth Police Department released on Monday refers to the gang membership of the victim and suspects but does not describe the killing’s precise motive.

Homicide Unit Detective Tom O’Brien obtained a second six-pack photo identification from a surviving shooting victim who identified Nash as the person she watched open fire inside the club.

A third suspect, Lamar Luster, was arrested on suspicion of murder under the law of parties that holds a person criminally responsible for the conduct of another person if the person solicits, encourages, direct or aids the other person to commit an offense.

Video surveillance shows that at 1:38 a.m. Luster spoke to the two shooters and pulled something that looked like a handgun with an extended magazine out of the front of his pants, according to the affidavit.

One minute later Luster was grouped together with the shooters when he appeared to hand the gun to one of the shooters, the video showed.

Allen had a role in two homicides. He was a possible suspect in a third killing, according to a police source.

  • Murder suspect arrested in West 7th nightclub shooting, Fort Worth police say

    [ad_1]

A murder suspect in Sunday’s shooting that killed a man and wounded five people at a West 7th district nightclub was arrested Wednesday night following a standoff with SWAT officers, Fort Worth police said.

Police Chief Eddie Garcia announced that the suspect, 20-year-old Akrell Ross, was tracked down by the department’s fugitive task force.

Ross barricaded himself in a residence in the 5400 block of Huffines Boulevard, in northwest Fort Worth, about 7 p.m. After SWAT officers responded, he was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Homicide detectives have said that they believe the shooting early Sunday at nightclub Social LIVV on Bledsoe Street was gang-related.

Patrique Allen, 31, was killed in the shooting, and investigators believe he was targeted because of his gang affiliations. The five surviving victims were bystanders, police said.

In their preliminary investigation, homicide detectives determined that multiple suspects fired handguns inside the bar.

Investigators said that the suspects in the shooting are documented gang members and that there is a history of a feud between the involved parties. Allen was a member of the Eastside Gorillas and Truman Street Bloods gangs, prosecutors with the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office wrote in court documents related to a murder case in which he was convicted.

Ross is the first suspect to be arrested in the Social LIVV shooting. He was booked into the city jail shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

“This is still an active investigation and as further details become available, they will be provided,” Garcia wrote in a post on X. “BIG THANKS to SWAT, DRU, patrol officers, fugitive, homicide & negotiators for your amazing work!”

Sunday’s shooting continued a violent weekend in Fort Worth after police investigated three homicides on Friday, including a stabbing across the street from Polytechnic High School that killed a 15-year-old student and critically injured his father, a shooting that killed an 18-year-old woman in a restaurant parking lot, and a shooting that killed a gas station employee during a reported robbery.

A fifth homicide occurred Monday night, when a man was stabbed to death during a fight at a convenience store on Camp Bowie West Boulevard, police said.

Staff writers Emerson Clarridge and Shambhavi Rimal contributed to this report.

  • Fort Worth community reacts to deadly shooting in West 7th bar

    [ad_1]

A man was killed and five people were wounded early Sunday morning in an apparently gang-related shooting inside Social LIVV, a bar on Bledsoe Street in Fort Worth’s West 7th entertainment district, police said.

A man was killed and five people were wounded early Sunday morning in an apparently gang-related shooting inside Social LIVV, a bar on Bledsoe Street in Fort Worth’s West 7th entertainment district, police said.

    srimal@star-telegram.com

Fort Worth community members reacted to the fatal shooting inside a West 7th bar early Sunday, with some calling it senseless violence as police work to find the suspects.

Patrique Allen, 31, was shot to death and five people were wounded at about 1:40 a.m. at Social LIVV, at 3005 Bledsoe St., police said.

Allen was short in his upper torso, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A man and four women who were also shot were taken from the nightclub to hospitals by ambulance or in their own vehicles.

All five surviving victims were stable as of Sunday afternoon and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

    Another senseless crime

Michelle Watkins, 35, of Fort Worth saw about the shooting on Facebook and thought, “oh, wow, another senseless crime,” she said in conversation with the Star-telegram.

“It (gun violence) also is recurring; you see this kind of periodically,” Watkins said. “I guess the everyday civilians are kind of getting numb to this.”

Watkins said law enforcement should stay alert when passing by a crowd, stop to make sure everything is OK.

“In the heat of the moment, you don’t know what’s going to happen when a bunch of people are out and about,” Watkins said.

Jordan Williams, 25, of Fort Worth said she feels sad for the victims.

“It’s just a really tragic thing that happened,” Williams said. “You don’t think that you’re gonna go out and have a good night and not expect to come back in the morning.”

Williams, who lives in the entertainment district west of downtown Fort Worth, said it is a “pretty safe neighborhood during the week, but people that come from outside of the neighborhood on the weekends, that’s what makes it kind of dangerous.”.

“But once Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday hit, it just turns into a completely different type of town,” Williams said.

“I wasn’t honestly surprised, because I’ve been hearing that the location is sketchy for a while,” 23-year-old Kayla Pargas said.

Pargas, who has worked in the area, said other business owners have been trying to get that location shut down for some time because of rumors of gang-related activity.

“If you have a gut feeling, always take it and be aware of your surroundings and what’s going on and how other people are reacting to different situations,” Pargas said when offering advice to young people.

    Increase police patrolling

Fort Worth police Chief Eddie Garcia immediately said, “We need more people out on the streets.”

He sent multiple units to high-crime areas to address three homicides that happened over the weekend, police spokesperson Officer Bradley Perez said.

“We do know that 7th Street gets a little crazy during the weekends, especially with the younger generation,” Prez said. “As a matter of fact, for some time now, we’ve had our own little police unit for 7th Street, specifically for them to be out there on the weekends.”

Perez said community members and law enforcement need to work together in order to combat this.

“If you see something suspicious, if you know something suspicious, speak up,” he said.

In their preliminary investigation, homicide detectives determined that multiple unidentified suspects fired handguns inside the bar in what appears to be an unprovoked shooting, police said.

Police said suspects ran immediately after the shooting and before officers arrived.

No arrests have been made, police said Sunday afternoon.

One person was killed and five were wounded early Sunday morning in an apparently gang-related shooting inside a bar on Bledsoe Street in Fort Worth’s West 7th entertainment district, police said.

Officers were called about 1:40 a.m. to the shooting scene at Social LIVV, 3005 Bledsoe St. They found the deceased victim inside the club with gunshot wounds to his upper torso, police said in a news release.

Five additional shooting victims were transported to hospitals by ambulance or in their own vehicles. The surviving victims were in stable condition as of about 7 a.m. Sunday.

In their preliminary investigation, homicide detectives determined that multiple unidentified suspects fired handguns inside the bar in what appears to be an unprovoked shooting, police said.

The suspects ran immediately after the shooting and before officers arrived. No arrests have been made at this time.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim who died.

Police said the motive for the shooting appears to be gang-related, “but the investigation is still preliminary and subject to change.”

The block of Bledsoe Street where Sunday’s shooting occurred is where TCU student Wes Smith was fatally shot in the street in September 2023. The shooter in that case pleaded guilty to murder in June of this year and was sentenced to 60 years in prison.

A suspect drunk driver led officers on a chase and hit two pedestrians and another vehicle near the West 7th entertainment district Saturday night, Fort Worth police told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA.

Police did not immediately respond to a Star-Telegram request for information.

Officers tried to initiate the traffic stop around 10:30 p.m. Saturday near University Drive and Bailey Avenue, WFAA reported. Andrew Guerra, 29, struck two pedestrians and another vehicle while fleeing, police said. The two pedestrians were sent to the hospital along with people inside the vehicle hit during the chase.

The victims are expected to make a full recovery. Guerra was arrested after police managed to stop him, according to WFAA.

He is charged with intoxicated assault with a vehicle and two other unspecified charges, according to police records.

Fort Worth is suing the Texas Attorney General’s Office in an effort to block the release of its police chase policy after the Star-Telegram and other North Texas publications requested copies of the policy under the Texas Public Information Act.

The attorney general’s office said the department has to release the policy. The lawsuit by the city hopes to reverse that decision.
