    Vince Staples is getting his own Netflix series. The rapper, and occasional actor, first tweeted about his show on Monday, but it wasn’t until Wednesday that we got our first look at it in Netflix’s new trailer and it already looks great. The series, called The Vince Staples Show, will premiere on Feb. 15.

    The trailer starts off with Vince arriving at his home and sitting down on the couch to watch TV with his girlfriend. As she asks him about his day, we see brief flashes from the show, of Vince beefing with someone in a mascot costume, getting recognized during a bank robbery, and struggling to order fast food.

    The trailer seems to be more interested in communicating the vibe of the show than any actual plot details, but it’s pretty successful nonetheless. Each scene looks weirder, funnier, and more tense than the last. It would be hard for an offbeat series created by a rapper to dodge comparisons to the Donald Glover-created Atlanta, but weirdly the trailer has a similar feel to Uncut Gems too, where Adam Sandler’s minor New York celebrity took him to some pretty terrible places.

    While Staples is mostly a musician, this isn’t his first time trying to get a show off the ground. He also created a much smaller version of The Vince Staples Show for Facebook back in 2019, but that series was short-lived. Since then, Staples has shown up on series like Abbott Elementary and Insecure.

    When I was little, I wanted to be a tourist. In my defense, it was listed, inexplicably, as a viable career in a picture book I had about jobs, and I thought it looked like a hoot. The cartoon couple wore matching Hawaiian shirts (and tans), clutched cocktails, and had their cameras ready. Most importantly, they sported huge smiles. Even in a kid’s picture book, they looked happier than, say, the accountant or doctor. When my mom gently tried breaking the news, I shrugged it off. I had picture proof! Besides, I’d taken my first flight at eight months. If anything, I’d gotten a head start on my dream career.

    Years have passed, the bubble since broken, and while I’m not a tourist (nor am I a travel blogger or photographer), I am a seasoned flyer. Airports can be a dreary place, no doubt, but getting on a plane excites me, and picking out a travel outfit downright delights me.

    But even with hundreds of thousands of miles under my belt, I’m not immune to blowing my travel look. I’ve been too hot, too cold, unfathomably uncomfortable, and although I’m loathe to admit it, held up a few security lines. But you live, you learn, and you board your next flight.

    In this roller coaster year of ups and downs, I’ve sat on the news of buying and renovating my first home. The process has been eye-opening, exciting, alarmingly adult, and an exercise in gratitude (and patience) every day.

As someone who used to pray daily that her rotted-wood closet bar wouldn’t buckle under pressure (and relied heavily on rolling racks), I still can’t believe I have a walk-in! After installation, I’d find myself wandering in and out of the empty room, a giddy smile plastered on my face. It felt fresh and full of hope. I didn’t want to sully the space with anything that no longer brought me joy.

    A new home means new beginnings, and I wanted to honor that with a well-curated wardrobe. I am deeply sentimental, so this proved to be harder than I thought it would, but I did it. I now live in a color-coded reality of tightly edited pieces (I know—who am I?) and you know what? It feels good.

    I’m a warm-weather girl. I was born in Southeast Asia, grew up in Texas, and call Los Angeles home. But when Paris beckoned my junior year of college, I answered, bien sur. Years later, I’m still somewhat of an outwear aficionado. Even California’s mild winters have me reaching for a coat the second temps drop below 60ºF (okay, 70º if we’re being honest).     I was (fashionably) late to the jean party. My first foray into pants was experimenting with my mom’s old stirrup leggings, but beyond that, dresses and skirts were strictly my jam. Anything with separate legs felt restrictive and as far as hemlines were concerned, the shorter the better. 

    That all changed when I discovered vintage in high school. Turned onto the “joy of the hunt” by a friend, I became addicted to the adrenaline rush of discovering one-of-a-kind pieces. My previous grievances against pants were quickly forgotten when I fell for a pair of perfectly worn-in Levi’s. This was holy grail denim: buttery soft, slightly androgynous, and in the most perfect sky blue wash. I was hooked, and my repertoire expanded quickly: frayed cutoffs in lieu of miniskirts, indigo bootcut jeans over slip dresses. My sweaters were set aside in favor of oversized, distressed denim jackets. I’d turned into a true blue-jean baby. 

    Denim still factors heavily in my closet. I’m in jeans almost every day. Recently, I crossed over to the dark side. Black jeans create a totally different look, and I was keen to switch things up. Revamping my denim drawer made me feel like I was in high school again, chasing a high through different cuts and washes.
