6 Things I’d Pick to Be in My Forever Wardrobe and 6 I’d Toss First

    [ad_1]

In an effort to streamline my closet and shopping habits, I often like to take a moment to focus on my forever wardrobe. In my case (and many others), this capsule collection is often composed of elevated basics that will always look stylish and are guaranteed to get a lot of wear throughout the years. With that in mind, it’s no wonder that I often lean heavily into classic pieces when creating the backbone of my closet.

During my wardrobe reset, I further edited my favorites into a cohesive collection of essentials I know I can and will rely on for many years to come. They all make for easy dressing and can be mixed and matched with trendy pieces that will come and go along the way. Think white button-downs, tailored blazers, and more. Keep scrolling to check out six pieces I’d pick for my forever wardrobe with a little visual outfit inspiration on how to wear each.

I Just Realized Every Beauty Item I Told My Friends to Buy in 2023 Was Under $50

    [ad_1]

As a beauty editor, I’m lucky enough to test dozens of new skincare, hair, and makeup products each month. I’m constantly surrounded by them, and it’s literally my job to judge them, so I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on what’s good, what’s great, and what’s, well, not worth using. It’s only when I personally recommend a product to my friends that I know I really love it.

Two of my closest friends (hi, Ella and Hansi!) love swapping beauty news, info, and recommendations. I can’t even count how many times they’ve gracefully listened to my never-ending monologues on the subject. So when they came to visit over the summer, I naturally told them all about the products I’d been loving as of late, and they did the same. A week later, they left with a list of products to buy (and it’s only grown since). It wasn’t until recently that I realized every product on the list was $50 or less. Ahead, see all 15 products that I’ve recommended to them and learn why I love them so much.

  • I'm a Beauty Editor Who Moved to the Midwest—30 Winter-Proof Items I Love

I'm a Beauty Editor Who Moved to the Midwest—30 Winter-Proof Items I Love

    [ad_1]

Most Wanted is a weekly series in which one editor, staffer, or influencer shares their top 30 must-haves or current wish-list items.

I’m from a small town in Northern Michigan, but up until this year, I spent four years living in LA and two years living in Austin, Texas. Not to state the obvious, but the climates of those three locations are drastically different. In LA, I had balmy 70-degree days. In Austin, I had high heat and high humidity to contend with. Now, I’m dealing with below-freezing temperatures and lots of snow, wind, and ice. Like I said, it’s different.

Even though I grew up here, it wasn’t exactly easy to readjust to the climate. In fact, I dreaded it. Dark, cold days do a number on my mental and physical health—not to mention my skin and hair. For the former, I had to rework my daily routine, get fresh air, and engage in lots of self-care activities. For the latter, I had to rework my beauty routine, collect new products, and use them strategically. It took me a while, but I’m happy to announce that I have my cold-weather essentials on lock. Ahead, check out the 30 products that will see me through to spring.

  • The Best 2024 Jeans Recommendations, Straight From Our Editors

The Best 2024 Jeans Recommendations, Straight From Our Editors

    [ad_1]

Take this from somebody who has owned and currently owns far too many pairs of jeans—the best ones are obtained through word of mouth. There’s really no other way. So when new styles drop that aren’t already beloved by everyone in the fashion community and beyond (including but not limited to Levi’s 501s and Agolde’s Pinch Waist silhouette), they really need to be tested, worn, washed, worn again, and finally, talked about—a lot.

With 2024 wardrobes being conceptualized and built as we speak, I thought I’d get the ball rolling on next year’s must-buy denim by skipping a step in the process. By that, I mean that rather than waiting for the best jeans recommendations to make their way to me, I sought them out. But I didn’t ask just anyone. Instead, I called on the shoppers I trust most, my fellow Who What Wear editors, who, between them all, have probably tested out every pair of jeans on the market at any given time. And as always, they came through. Scroll down to shop the 2024 Zagat guide to denim.

  • From Under $50 to Ultra Luxurious, Behold the 16 Best Beauty Finds at Nordstrom

From Under $50 to Ultra Luxurious, Behold the 16 Best Beauty Finds at Nordstrom

    [ad_1]

I’ll admit it—shopping online for beauty products can be somewhat of a daunting task. Finding all of your favorite items in one place is one thing. Ensuring that they get delivered on time to replenish your routine is another. Few retailers can check both boxes and boast a well-curated selection of high-low products.

In my humble opinion, Nordstrom is one of the best. With a massive spectrum of beauty products to choose from, there’s something for every budget, preference, and concern—whether you’re looking for a designer foundation, an intoxicating perfume, or a moisturizing hair mask.

This is why I’ve gone ahead and put together a list of the 16 best beauty products I’ve found at Nordstrom, ranging from an ultra-luxurious woody fragrance to an incredible exfoliating face mask (that just so happens to be under $50). Keep reading to see and shop them all.

I’ve Tried, But I Just Can’t Stop Thinking About These Fall Ref and Mango Finds

    [ad_1]

Since I look at clothes pretty much all day, every day, being able to resist pretty things is practically an essential part of my job description. If I couldn’t, well, my paycheck would never actually reach my bank account. There are far too many temptations in the way. With that in mind, when I’m categorically unable to say no and mean it, the pieces causing this internal battle have to be good. Trust me. I’m not giving in for just anything.

Right now, there are really only two brands swirling around my mind with no intention of leaving and no one exactly kicking them out: Mango and Reformation. That’s because I spent a few too many hours today scrolling through both retailers’ fall collections and was thoroughly impressed with what I found. From viral-worthy dresses to the prettiest boots you’ll see, like, ever, find a little bit of everything your fall wardrobe’s been craving below from Reformation and Mango. At least, I know I did.

  • I’ve Never Been a Revolve Girl, But Consider Me Converted by These 32 Fall Finds

I’ve Never Been a Revolve Girl, But Consider Me Converted by These 32 Fall Finds

    [ad_1]

Though I shopped at Revolve probably too much in high school (back before the company dropped the word “clothing” in its domain name), I almost never do in my adult life. As someone whose style errs more on the hushed, timeless side as opposed to the colorful, lively one, I never really thought there was anything for me there apart from the occasional in-stock sneaker or chic Helsa dress. But with a new season approaching, I thought I’d use it as an excuse to give Revolve another chance. It’s the least I could do for the brand that supplied me with my junior-year prom dress. (It was coral, but so was everyone’s in 2013.)

Following an afternoon-long scroll through Revolve’s fall arrivals, I’m officially ready to admit that I’d been 100% wrong to think that the retailer wasn’t fully stocked with pieces that would perfectly align with my more minimalist style preferences. In fact, my findings were some of the best fall pieces I’ve discovered all season, and that includes things from my tried-and-true stores and designers. From ’90s-inspired strapless dresses to elegant basics including knitwear, trousers, and outerwear, the 32 items below converted me. Consider me a Revolve girl from now on.

It’s Fashion Month—30 Show-Worthy Items I’m Building My Outfits Around

    [ad_1]

Most Wanted is a weekly franchise that goes live every Monday. The story features a list of one editor or influencer’s current favorite 30 fashion or beauty products around a certain theme.

The days leading up to New York Fashion Week, aka the first stop of four in the marathon that is fashion month, are some of the busiest of the entire year for those who call the industry home. Not only do you have to make your schedule for some of, if not the entire month, locked in, you also need to brainstorm coverage ideas, meet with publicists, attend pre-NYFW events, and, the most mentally taxing of all, plan your outfits.

Since fashion month’s kickoff is just days away, I as a fashion editor, am knee-deep in the planning process, taking inspiration from the runways (both current and archival), street style, my never-ending Instagram saved folder, and more, and pulling from my existing closet before shopping out the final touches. It’s a full-time job, but one that’s certainly worth it when fashion month comes around and I love everything I’m wearing. (Yes, it does make a difference.) • I’m A Plus-Size Editor and I Swear By These 6 Fashion Week Essentials

I’m A Plus-Size Editor and I Swear By These 6 Fashion Week Essentials

    [ad_1]

While I’m the biggest proponent of wearing what you want, all of that advice goes out the window when it comes to fashion week. But before you pull out your pitch-forks, hear me out:

As a plus-size editor with a (somewhat!) eclectic sense of personal style, it’s easier for me to browse my closet for some jaw-dropping eye candy-filled outfits than think about what’s sensible to wear running up and down city blocks as I make my way to different fashion shows. After 5 seasons of putting my body and feet through torture in pursuit of the coolest, chicest street style photographer-worthy outfit, I’ve come to realize it’s not the way to live. Yes, you can still look cool *and* be comfortable. Who would have thought?!

Naturally, being above standard sizing comes with its sartorial challenges year-round, but especially during fashion week where it’s easy to feel like you have to look impeccable at all times. Although the fashion industry has tremendous leaps and bounds it needs to reckon with before becoming inclusive for everyone, I’ve perfected my fashion week outfit formula down to a science—ensuring maximum comfort and style throughout days of shows on end.

Whether you’re an editor heading to Seoul Fashion Week (me, this year!) or a fashion student sneaking your way into shows (also me, a few years ago!), these plus-size outfit essentials are must-haves if you’re making your way throughout a fashion circuit. Inclusive shopping and swoon-worthy finds, ahead.

  • If The Row Is What You Want, Buy These COS, Massimo Dutti, and Zara Finds ASAP

If The Row Is What You Want, Buy These COS, Massimo Dutti, and Zara Finds ASAP

    [ad_1]

Because The Row is such a minimalist brand, you’d think successfully achieving the “The Row look” would be quite simple. Throw on an oversize button-down shirt with a turtleneck underneath, and pair the duo with belted slouchy, pleated trousers. Done. But there’s a reason why people—including Jennifer Lawrence, Zoë Kravitz, and Kendall Jenner—will spend thousands on a single item from the brand. Every single piece that The Row debuts, no matter how understated it is, has a subtle twist that makes it stand out as significantly more elegant than all of the other seemingly similar basics that are out there.

Don’t worry. I’m not going to try to convince you to buy up a ton of The Row pieces. (Though, if you want to, I’ll support it and be jealous.) What I will do, though, is share mine and every quiet luxury–loving fashion editor’s secret to mastering the brand’s aesthetic for a whole lot less than four digits. Well, it’s really three secrets, and their names are Zara, COS, and Massimo Dutti. From handbags to tailored suiting to basics that’ll become the backbone of your wardrobe for the rest of time, these retailers have The Row’s look down pat. To prove it, I looked through every item on all three websites and found the 37 pieces that fit the brand’s vibe the most. Scroll down to dive in.

  • Summer Was Harsh on My Hair and Skin—30 Fall Beauty Items I’m Buying to Help

Summer Was Harsh on My Hair and Skin—30 Fall Beauty Items I’m Buying to Help

    [ad_1]

Most Wanted is a weekly series in which one Who What Wear team member or friend of the brand will share the top 30 fashion and beauty finds on their current wish list.

Listen, I love summer, but spending so much time outside, under the sun, and in the water, takes a toll. Despite my best efforts to apply (and reapply) sunscreen, use hydrating products, moisturize my hair, and lay off heat tools, I find myself in need of a boost come fall. That’s where I’m at right now. When I look in the mirror, I see dark spots and lackluster skin. I see split ends and breakage in my hair. Even my nails are worse for wear.

Alas, I’m a beauty editor, and I won’t put up with this. That’s why, this year, I’m taking my fall beauty routine seriously. I’m investing in high-tech skin devices and science-backed skincare products. I’m investing in moisturizing hair masks and shine-boosting treatments. I’m even focusing on using makeup products that will help me minimize the new imperfections that popped up this summer. In other words, I’m consciously and meticulously crafting my fall beauty routine so I can squeeze every last benefit out of it. Ahead, check out all 30 items.

  • Alaïa’s the Goal, $150’s the Budget—31 Chic Nordstrom and Zara Items That’ll Do

Alaïa’s the Goal, $150’s the Budget—31 Chic Nordstrom and Zara Items That’ll Do

    [ad_1]

From its viral fishnet flats to its celeb-packed spring 2024 show (which was casually set on a footbridge overlooking the Seine in Paris), there’s no question that Alaïa is the brand on the tip of the entire fashion industry’s tongue right now. Founded in Paris in the late 1970s by Tunisian couturier Azzedine Alaïa, the house is most known for its clingy, form-fitting silhouettes—the designer was nicknamed in the media the “King of Cling” during his heyday in the ’80s and ’90s—and laser-cut accessories, from corset belts to handbags.

Today, a new designer sits at the helm of the brand, creative director Peter Mulier, but while his unique design style is certainly apparent, Alaïa’s enormous legacy remains fully in tact, with his signature cling and cuts continuing to act as symbols of the house. And with the return of ’80s trends like cuff bracelets, nipped-in waists, sculptural shapes, and more, a perfect storm’s been brewing for Alaïa’s biggest moment yet.

Unfortunately, as much as I’d like to line the racks of my closet with hooded body-cons and netted footwear, doing so isn’t always realistic when you’re shopping on a budget. That’s why I went ahead and rounded up 31 under-$150 pieces that’ll get you the Alaïa look for less from Nordstrom and Zara.

I’m a Fashion Editor Who Loves to Plan Ahead—32 Fall Essentials I’m Buying Early

    [ad_1]

I’ve always been a planner, often thinking weeks ahead about even the most inconsequential of decisions. Like the industry I work in, where everything has a six-month lead time, I thrive when I can plan for things in advance. So naturally, as I watched designers debut their fall/winter collections in February, the gears in my brain were already turning, planning which items would become essential to my wardrobe when the season actually arrived.

With fall now on the horizon, I’m stress-free, as I’ve already made all of the hard sartorial decisions that come with the arrival of a new season. From new-and-improved basics like the halter top and pastel-colored button-downs to of-the-moment outerwear, jewelry, and footwear that are sure to dominate in a few months, the pieces I’m planning to bring into autumn have all but been added to my closet. Now, all I have to do is actually buy them. See and shop all 32 of them below.

These Always-Popular Beauty Products Are Sure to Sell Out Before Fall Arrives

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

There are two types of people out there—those who wait with bated breath for the first day of fall to arrive, and those who mourn the end of summer. Somehow, I’m both. I’ll miss warm, sunny days, but I’m excited to bring out my favorite sweaters and jackets. I’ll miss the beach, but I’m excited to buy a fresh new face oil. I’ll miss late-night drinks on the patio, but I’m excited to wear a full-coverage foundation without worrying it will sweat off as soon as I step outside. You get the idea.

It’s better to be prepared than not, so I’ve already set my sights on the trendiest and most effective fall beauty products. While I’ve done a lot of online shopping, there’s one place I keep coming back to, and that’s Nordstrom, simply because of its selection of beauty products that live up to the hype. Keep scrolling to see the 15 Nordstrom beauty products that are worth buying before fall arrives—especially since some of them could be sold out by then.

I Really Should Gatekeep These 36 Summer Finds, But I Won’t—You’re Welcome

    [ad_1]

As it’s my job to sort through every clothing item, shoe style, and accessory on the market and dig out the best ones, gatekeeping isn’t really an option. It would go against everything I was hired to do. But that doesn’t mean I don’t sometimes want to keep a very small (but mighty) number of items to myself—not only so that they don’t sell out before I break myself down and buy them but also so that I know I’ll be the first person to wear them. Alas, wanting to do something and actually doing it are two very different things, which is how this curation of should’ve-been-gatekept pieces came to be.

Below, you’ll find a treasure trove of fashion finds that I’ve come across and considered hiding away in the last few weeks. I have high standards, so you know they’re good. Whether it’s an on-sale discovery that shouldn’t be as cheap as it is or a soon-to-be-viral item that’ll be gone in weeks or maybe even days, the pieces featured in the list below should not be slept on for one more day. Don’t make me regret sharing them. It took a lot, so I expect all of you to react accordingly.

12 Matte Sunscreens That Are Basically a Dream Come True for Oily Skin Types

    [ad_1]

I used to love dewy sunscreen. For years, I exclusively wore glow-boosting formulas that made my skin look radiant and reflective. Recently, though, I’ve had a change of heart. Blame it on my summer skin which tends to be oily and shiny, or blame it on TikTok for exposing me to soft-focus, velvety makeup trends, but I’ve been swapping my dewy SPFs for matte ones.

Let me be clear. I don’t use just any matte sunscreen. I use modern matte formulas—not the traditional ones that have historically gotten a bad rap and are the reason so many people tend to associate the word ‘matte’ with thick and chalky formulas. After all, I’m a beauty editor, and I have a strict set of standards for sunscreen. I won’t put up with tough-to-blend, white-cast-creating formulas. Ahead see the 12 modern matte formulas I’ve been loving lately. They protect my skin and give it that soft, blurred, and velvety quality that I love.

  • What I’d Pick From Nordstrom If I Could Only Wear 5 Pieces for an Entire Year

What I’d Pick From Nordstrom If I Could Only Wear 5 Pieces for an Entire Year

    [ad_1]

When I find myself wanting to pare down my wardrobe I often ask myself: If I could only wear 5 pieces for an entire year, what would they be? This helps me tremendously to refocus my shopping habits and streamline my current collection. It’s by no means easy to narrow it down so drastically but it really puts things into perspective. For the sake of this exercise (and my sanity), it only pertains to core day-to-day clothing—not shoes, outerwear, pajamas, workout clothes, bags, and other accessories.

I recently revisited the question and came up with a great set of wardrobe essentials that I wouldn’t mind wearing over and over again. So not quite uniform dressing but more of a mini capsule collection of sorts. The pieces would need to withstand the fast-moving trend cycles as well. To put together this cohesive edit, I headed over to Nordstrom, which is home to endless elevated basics. Then, to best help visualize this selection, I turned to looks that feature these classic-cool pieces from one of my favorite style muses, Alexis Foreman. Keep scrolling to see my top 5 picks and to shop options for each.

I’ve Never Been a J.Crew or Madewell Girl—These 33 Summer Finds Changed My Mind

    [ad_1]

Everyone has brands that they go to and have gone to for decades to furnish their wardrobe. Through dozens of style evolutions and new, exciting trends, those brands have remained, proving that loyalty reigns supreme, even in 2023. Forever intrigued by this phenomenon, I regularly ask people to name-drop their tried-and-true labels, and when I say that their responses almost always feature one of the following two brands, I’m not exaggerating one bit. If you guessed Madewell and J.Crew, you’re on the money.

Classic, elevated, and timeless, both J.Crew and Madewell have built cult-like followings unlike any others. Until recently, though, I never fully understood the hype. Sure, I shopped at both over the years, picking up a sweater or a great pair of jeans. But when it comes to brands that I’ve frequented for much of my life, neither was ever one of them. The last few months have, however, seen a significant shift in my shopping behavior, resulting in me finding myself thinking about and buying items from both J.Crew and Madewell not only more than ever before but also more than any other retailer. Apparently, you can teach an old dog new tricks. All it takes is a shockingly pretty sundress and plenty of linen.

Below, check out the 33 summer items that are continuing to change my mind about J.Crew and Madewell.

I tend to go down rabbit holes when I shop online, opening up tab after tab until my laptop gets hot and starts humming, informing me that if I don’t go outside and take a breather, the spinning ball of death will arrive and never leave. Despite the potential threat, I’ve never learned to shop online any other way in my 27 years. Take my last full day of shopping, for instance. I spent roughly six hours scrolling and clicking on Nordstrom.com until my computer got so hot it nearly burned me.

And this last time was no exception. During those six hours, I put together a heavily curated shopping cart of 32 of the chicest finds I’ve discovered all summer, including everything from quiet-luxury staples to of-the-moment buys destined to bring forth compliments.
