Saks to File for Bankruptcy Within Days

Saks Global is preparing to file for bankruptcy. This was already rumored in recent weeks, but it is now reported that the filing could come within days after the company missed an interest payment on the debt it took on to buy Neiman Marcus.

The information comes from people familiar with the matter, as reported by WSJ. Saks has struggled financially since taking on the debt burden in 2024, and its delays in paying vendors have contributed to weaker offerings and sales. You have probably noticed that too when looking to use that Amex Platinum card Saks credit. Many cheaper items at least are usually out of stock.

Saks failed to make an interest payment of more than $100 million that was due Tuesday. Saks sought to raise cash through asset sales, such as selling a Beverly Hills property. It has also explored selling a 49% stake in Bergdorf Goodman, the high-end department store acquired as part of its $2.7 billion merger with Neiman Marcus. Saks is now in talks with its creditors about financing for the bankruptcy process, the people said.

It’s not clear what will happen when Saks files for bankruptcy, but it’s probably best to start looking to use that $50 Saks credit now.

At the end of a long work week, there really isn’t anything better in my opinion than sitting down and scrolling through a sale that you really don’t have to scroll that far into to find some not-so-hidden gems. Well, apparently Saks read my mind, because right now, the luxury retailer’s having a flash sale, and unlike so many sales that set expectations sky high but don’t totally deliver, this one houses hit after hit.

The markdown event, called the Fashion Flash sale, consists of designer and contemporary items from brands like Helmut Lang and Tory Burch as well as Jacquemus, Proenza Schouler, and Khaite, all of which are up to 70% off right now through Sunday. They weren’t kidding when they called it a flash sale. So, to save you time but still ensure that you get the opportunity to shop off the work week, I went ahead and rounded up 28 of the best picks from the bunch. Scroll down to see what made the cut.

  • Not to Brag, But We’ve Mastered 3 Date-Night Looks You Need to Wear This Fall

Not to Brag, But We’ve Mastered 3 Date-Night Looks You Need to Wear This Fall

    [ad_1]

As I sit here in the throes of a very humid NYC summer, I can’t help but dream about the cooler temperatures of a crisp fall day. We’re going to ignore the fact that I begged for warm weather throughout winter because it’s hard to live in the present when I’m always looking to the sartorial season ahead. Don’t blame me—blame my job (and the fact that my AC unit is on its last leg). But thankfully, we’re already seeing the release of fall collections, a signal that the change in season and a new batch of trends are near.

My mind is already spinning with all the fall looks I’m ready to style. I’m still on board with the “stealth wealth” aesthetic because the outfits require little effort to put together but result in very polished looks. The key pieces include luxe basics (such as the Khaite jeans below), pointed-toe slingbacks, and coordinating suit sets. No one accomplishes this vibe better than our associate director of special projects, Kristen Nichols, so I’ve tapped her to share three fall looks she’s shopping at Saks, including a chic desk-to-drinks ensemble and a pretty date-night outfit. Her looks prove that “less is more” is the only rule of thumb for fall dressing this year. Browse through the videos below and keep scrolling to see where Kristen would wear each look.

  • 30 Luxe Summer Buys From Nordstrom, NAP, and Saks I’m Losing It Over

30 Luxe Summer Buys From Nordstrom, NAP, and Saks I’m Losing It Over

    [ad_1]

I’m constantly on the hunt for the coolest pieces to land at retailers, and since I write the Luxury List column, that includes all things designer. Recently, I’ve been scouring the drops at Nordstrom, Net-a-Porters, and Saks, whose new arrivals have me thinking about which investment pieces will land in my closet—or, at least, at the top of my wish list.

Right now, I have a number of luxe buys sitting in my cart. Since summer has arrived, I’m thinking about pieces that will carry me throughout the season and land in my suitcase for upcoming travels, from swimwear and bags to sunglasses and dresses. Ahead, see all of the cool finds that made the cut.

  • Saks Is Offering 20% Off One Item—These 27 Finds Are Good Enough to Be That Item

Saks Is Offering 20% Off One Item—These 27 Finds Are Good Enough to Be That Item

    [ad_1]

This just in: Saks is having a fun little sale during which more than 15,000 items are 20% off. The catch is that you can only get 20% off one thing. I know. Coming from someone who isn’t incredibly decisive, choosing just one item is a lot to ask. But I did my best. Well, I picked 27 things. We’re obviously not all going to have the same taste and wardrobe needs, so I searched for special items from brands we know and love that are worthy of being the one thing you order from the Saks sale.

Now for the details: The sale runs through Friday, June 23, and all you have to do to secure the 20% discount is enter the code JUNE20SF at checkout. There are several brand-new items in the sale, so trust me—this isn’t a clearance sale. See for yourself below by scrolling through what I think are the best buys.

  • I Just Popped Into Saks—These Summer Finds Are So Good It’s Stressing Me Out

I Just Popped Into Saks—These Summer Finds Are So Good It’s Stressing Me Out

    [ad_1]

Welcome to Let’s Get a Room, a series where editor Eliza Huber heads to the dressing room to try on pieces from your favorite retailers, buzzy items, and new collections. Think of this column as a detailed guide to the pieces that are actually worth buying and the ones that, unfortunately, looked better online—no returns necessary.

I spend a lot of my time shopping in New York City, but there are certain stores I have to keep myself from stepping foot inside in order to keep my bank account in the green. One such place is Saks Fifth Avenue, a staple of the NYC shopping scene where finances go to die, not necessarily because everything’s pricey, but because it’s all utterly irresistible. Alas, sometimes you have to break your own rules. Or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself given that I did, indeed, walk into Saks this week and subsequently spent a total of three hours scouring the store’s seemingly endless offering.

Naturally, with a selection as good as the one at Saks, I couldn’t possibly just look at my favorite pieces from the bunch. I had to try them on, too. So, to make the damage more worthwhile, I decided to turn my shopping experience into the latest installment of my monthly column Let’s Get a Room. That way, I can use work as an excuse for my reckless behavior and everybody wins. Without further ado, scroll down to see and shop every item I tried on at Saks Fifth Avenue, from the SKIMS tee I need in every single color to the white trousers from Staud that will no doubt become my most-worn summer fashion item.

  • I Just Spent 4 Hours Devouring Saks’s Sale—29 Pairs of Shoes That Must Be Seen

I Just Spent 4 Hours Devouring Saks’s Sale—29 Pairs of Shoes That Must Be Seen

    [ad_1]

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a sucker for a sale. It doesn’t even have to be a good one. As long as it features an abundance of dark-red font and crossed out numbers, I’ll drop everything to at least window shop the selection. That’s how I ended up logging onto Saks’s website this week with no expectations but a willingness to look through every last marked-down product from the retailer’s Friends and Family sale, going on now through Monday, March 27. First, I tackled the selection as a whole, leading to genuine alarm when my intention of just looking went out the window and reality set it: This sale is really, really good.

After looking through over 25,000 products, I decided to narrow things down to give my bank balance a slight chance of survival. Little did I know that by focusing only on shoes, I was striking gold. From metallic heels and suede knee-high boots to shearling slides and toe-loop sandals, the shoe offering showcased below is a treasure trove for footwear enthusiasts, especially ones with a penchant for sales. Scroll down to see for yourself.

  • Saks Quietly Just Launched a Quickie Sale—These 33 Finds Won’t Last Till the End

Saks Quietly Just Launched a Quickie Sale—These 33 Finds Won’t Last Till the End

    [ad_1]

Saks just launched a three-day sale, and if you ask me, someone who has, at minimum, virtually window-shopped every sale on the planet that’s taken place in the last five years, this isn’t one to skip. With three levels of discounts, over 25,000 products to choose from, and brands like Interior, Staud, Simon Miller, and Wardrobe.NYC included in the mix, I can’t think of a single reason why you shouldn’t start shopping the sale right this second. Especially because it ends in just three days.

I know—I’m getting ahead of myself. Details-wise, Saks’s sale starts today and lasts until Sunday, March 5. As I mentioned, there are three tiers, meaning that the more you spend, the bigger the discount you receive when you use the code SAVE23SF at checkout. Specifically, when you spend $400, you get $100 off; when you spend $800, you get $200 off; and when you spend $1200, you get $300 off. See? I told you it was worth shopping.

The best part about sales like this is the feeling you get when the otherwise full-price items in your cart are slashed all at once upon typing in the code SAVE23SF before finalizing the purchase. In other words, don’t be alarmed when you see the unmarked prices on the 33 sale finds below. They will be discounted, just be patient. Scroll down to shop Saks’s short-but-sweet sale, going on now through Sunday.

‘Tis the Season for OTT Window Displays

    [ad_1]

Before the Thanksgiving leftovers have even been boxed up, retailers all around the globe are displaying just how ready they are for the holidays with festive, over-the-top windows and light shows at their most-trafficked brick-and-mortar locations. In New York City, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s have become entertainment destinations, upping the ante year after year with their seasonal décor. The party has expanded beyond department stores (and the Big Apple), with more brands and hotels getting in on the fun and zhuzhing up their façades.
