A 25-year-old Davenport man was released on bond after police allege he had 7.2 pounds of marijuana in a home where a 3-year-old child lives.

Elijah Gay faces felony charges of failure to affix a drug tax stamp and a controlled-substance violation, as well as an aggravated misdemeanor charge of child endangerment, court records show.

At 10:45 a.m. Monday, Gay was detained in the 4400 block of Locust Street in connection with a drug-search warrant for his person, vehicle and residence, arrest affidavits say.

Police allege in affidavits that Gay admitted he had two pounds of marijuana in his basement. Also residing at his residence were his girlfriend and 3-year old child.

Officers found 7.2 pounds of marijuana in the basement for which Gay “failed to purchase a drug tax stamp through the Iowa Department of Revenue,” officers allege in affidavits.

“In the main area was (Gay’s) girlfriend and 3-year old. Also in the living room were various pipes to smoke marijuana and marijuana blunts in the ashtray,” police allege in affidavits.

Gay is set for a preliminary hearing Dec. 29 in Scott County Court.

Suspects had 5,000 pounds of marijuana,, police allege

Two California men face felony charges after Illinois State Police allege the suspects had more than 5,000 pounds of marijuana, a news release says.

Illinois State Police (ISP) arrested 29-year-old Robert Mazo and 33-year-old Pedro Arreola, both from Lancaster, California, for cannabis trafficking (Class X felony), unlawful possession of cannabis – more than 5,000 grams with intent to deliver (Class X felony) and unlawful possession of cannabis – more than 5,000 grams, a Class 1 felony, a news release says.

About 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, an ISP trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Provost Bus on Interstate 80 eastbound near milepost 13 in Henry County, the release says. During the traffic stop, “numerous indicators of criminal activity were observed,” the release says.

An ISP K9 arrived to assist, and alerted to the odor of narcotics. During the resulting search, numerous packages of illegal cannabis were located throughout the vehicle. The total weight of the cannabis was about 5,231 pounds, the release says.

This seizure is one of the largest in ISP history and has an estimated value of between $6.3 and $14.7 million, the release says.

Moline on course to double marijuana dispensary limit – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

City Council could clear the way for a second dispensary

Host Jim Niedelman is back with Moline Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati.

The city is getting in on the legal recreational marijuana action. Milan’s been the only place around the Quad Cities with a dispensary after the State of Illinois legalized it.

Moline has its first dispensary on the way to Avenue of the Cities. Now the city is considering changing the code to allow for a second dispensary.

The licensees want to open that dispensary along the John Deere Road Corridor shopping district.

“In terms of diversifying the revenue streams, this is part of that,” Rayapati said. “We’ve talked as a council … about what that money could be used for.”
